Well, technically the 14th since I got up at 2am. Pictured above are Cassiopeia, Perseus, probably part of Andromeda, Triangulum, and part of Auriga. Listened to Claire de Lune; Moonlight Sonata (1st Movement); Tchaikovsky: Swan Lake, Op. 20, Act 2: Scene (Moderato); Nocturne No. 2 in E-Flat Major; Near Light; Gymnopédie No. 1; and the episode entitled Capacity for Wonder in John Green’s The Anthropocene Reviewed. In the hour that I was out, I saw at least 42 meteors: a number obtained through a bit of selective counting. At one point I just stopped to take it all in.

“That, then, is loveliness, we said,/ Children in wonder watching the stars,/ Is the aim at the end.” —Dylan Thomas, Being But Men

Tried Perseid Meteor Hunting Tonight, But Sadly Was Bit Too Cloudy :/

Still got some pretty pictures though! So here's my wee photo dump🌌📸

From left to right city of Preston, and Blackpool ( the tall thing kinda in the middle in the bottom photo is Blackpool tower), and then Fleetwood...

... and further to the right, city of Lancaster, Morecambe town and what I thought may have been Barrow but didn't really show in the photo...

...What I think is Hawthornthwaite Fell...

... and lastly the sky looking back towards the rest of Bowland and Wyresdale, and what I'm gonna guess... cirrocumulus! (Or not, who knows!)

Anyway there's something got to be said about being able to take a photo (on the ground) of where you've spent more than half your life, where you've lived and live, went to high school, uni, where you worked and work, and where you went on holiday to as a kid and so on!

So it wasn't entirely a waster journey (was bloody windy though - especially when you're up atop a beacon tower!)

Perseid Meteor Shower 2013With A Rate Of 80 Meteors/hour Or More, This Is Something You Definitely Dont

Perseid Meteor Shower 2013 With a rate of 80 meteors/hour or more, this is something you definitely don’t want to miss. Meteors will appear all across the sky but will seem to radiate from the Perseus constellation. They will be visible all around the world, however, southern hemisphere viewers will see lower rates. There is also a smaller meteor shower peaking this weekend (around July 28). 🌌Space Facts!🌌

If you live in the upper Midwest of the USA I'm jealous of you.

This weekend(Aug 10-12) not only do you have the opportunity to see the perseids, but you may also be able to see the northern lights as well due to heightened solar activity!

Happy Stargazing!
