Shipping Thoughts - Tumblr Posts

I actually like blueshipping.

But most of the past!fic I'll post on here will probably be blueshipping Pokémon fic because I wrote a lot of it as a kid.

I still write it, but I'd like to think I've improved.

okay hear me out

What if there's blueshipping, but James and Meowth are the tougher, gay version of Jessica and Roger Rabbit

And Jessie is Eddie Valiant

I could've written so many shitty songfics

I found a list of songs I made as a teenager. It is titled "Blueshipping Soundtrack."

Some of the songs had a star beside them. They are:

I'm With You by Avril Lavigne

The Glory of Love by A Newfound Glory

All You Wanted by Michelle Branch

Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls

Song For the Lonely by Cher

I can't for the life of me remember why I starred those particular entries.

edit: I remembered

anyway, thanks for coming by while I yell on the street corner

memory from a never written fic just unlocked

Imagine "Iris" by the Goo Goo Dolls plays while Meowth and James stare angstily and lovingly into each other's eyes in the pouring rain after a rough blastoff. Then they kiss

key detail: irises (the flower) are very close to James's hair color

James shipping thoughts

"Stereotypically camp behavior and not adhering to gender norms doesn't mean that a person is gay."

"I still like shipping James with male characters. It just makes my brain go brrrr. Any gender-bending he does has no effect on this tendency."

These are two thoughts that can exist in the same mind without (make it)doublethink.

two jameses, one shipping idea

James and Meowth being in a romantic relationship is no different from another James, who liked traveling the galaxy and getting into steamy interspecies romances.

// racism, bestiality

Oh god I've always been meaning to ask this from somebody but I didn't know where to go because I'm afraid people will look at me like a lunatic. Given the "black men are seen as animalistic" stereotype, do fanarts of fictional women fucking horses/dogs have racist undertones or no? Or are they just the product of somebody being a real freaky person and going "wow you know what the world needs more than anything? This anime woman sexing up a horse and going 'you are my REAL husband'"

Fictional bestiality was a major fucking trigger for me for the longest time (irl too but that goes without saying) and just as I was about to come to terms with it, my brain decided to connect these dots that may not even have anything to do with each other and I'm queasy about it once again. Overthinking?

(this may or may not have been further solidified in me when I saw a discussion under a "white women fuck dogs lol" post, which said something along the lines of "nobody is fucking any dogs, chuds are just salty women no longer want to pick them, so they resorted to likening the people they choose to fuck to dogs")

--

Porn imageboards are awash in this sort of thing aimed at straight dudes, but AO3 fic doesn't tend to feature that much woman/animal, so it doesn't come up that much in wank that I've seen.

Monsterfucking (of whatever gender combo) has absolutely been compared to racist stereotypes of black men though, so I'm sure if bestiality porn gets more popular on AO3, it will get added to the list of things that are secretly about racist kinks.

there are ships that I have that I’m like “I specifically want to see these two be romantically linked” and then I have ships where I’m like “It’s not so much that I want their relationship to be romantic over platonic as much as it is I abhor the thought of some Love Interest coming along and changing their dynamic, and it seems them being taken by each other would solve that.” I call it defensive shipping, and I think it should be accepted into the general use lexicon.

Example: Do you actually want Holmes and Watson to be together like that, or are you just shipping defensively because they are built to be an inseparable pair, and seeing Watson always end up marrying a woman and moving out of Baker Street makes you big sad?

Female alphas and male omegas. Interesting.

I think I've found a situation in which I would read a Rocketshipping fic.

I'm curious about people's opinions on this.

I recently saw some complaints about people writing het omegaverse and how it should only be for queer relationships and there seemed to be some drama over it and claims that het ships are ruining it. And because I tend to enjoy drama more than I should I read a long twitter thread. Now, the omegaverse isn't my cup of tea. All I really know about it is, wolves, Mpreg, dominance and submission. But it is very popular. Nearly all of my fandoms and ships will have a few omegaverse fics on every one of their AO3 pages. (Nearly all of them are M/M ships)

So I guess, what are the issues of people writing het omegaverse? Or should this be another case of Don't like Don't read and let people have their fun? Or does it just not really work for het ships?

Yes, het will totally ruin the weird dog dicks AU. Absolutely.

There are no ~issues~. People should write whatever the fuck they want. But if you want to explore whether it "works", you have to delve into what makes omegaverse tick actually, which is more than just wolves+mpreg.

One common use of the trope is to make someone 100000% the top 5eva. This is the type people often mock or complain about in m/m, and it works much the same in f/m. This is what showed up in that stupid omegaverse lawsuit situation: indie het erotica/romance novelists are now using this as a way to structure their fsub rapey ultra alpha hero stuff, and one of them decided she was the original and no one should steal her idea. (Soooo original.)

The Alphaest Alpha to Ever Alpha is a fantasy, not realism, no matter how many dicks the ship has, so it's not any stranger to go "No, he's really, really on top!" about the dude in het than about one of the dudes in m/m.

If this trope is hot to you, it's hot. If it isn't, it's not any stupider with het than with slash.

But that's not the only thing omegaverse gets used for. It's also used for the diametric opposite: debunking the idea of someone naturally being super, duper default on top. This kind of fic often does something with betas and actually engages with the idea of a three-biological-sex system (instead of betas being how you get rid of the characters you don't ship). It will have alpha/alpha relationships or omegas topping or omega-->beta trans characters or all manner of other gender/sex exploration.

I don't read a ton of het in fandom, but I do read m/m/f, and I've read fics where each chapter is a different scenario where the three are some other omegaverse combo. This is where you'll often see female alphas and male omegas and various takes on exactly what that would look like. There's no reason het couldn't also be used to explore sex and gender stuff.

And, really, some people just find knotting hot. A story being het won't change that.

So if I understand this correctly this example should illustrate:

"A Better Pill to Swallow" (that Pokémon episode where Team Rocket drank a potion that made them extremely attractive to Pokémon and Meowth fell in love with James) can be ship fodder or catnip (pun intended) for shippers.

It is not a shiptease or ship bait because it's really unlikely that the writers of Pokémon intended for the audience to ship James and Meowth.

I wish more people understood the difference between ship fodder/catnip for shippers, and an actual shiptease or bait.

The former is just a character dynamic or type of story that is fun to extrapolate from.

The latter is intentional on the part of the writers and much much less common.

It's got James's hair color (violet), Meowth's fur color (cream could look white under some lights and his tail tip and back paw tips are orangish), general Team Rocket colors (white and black), and Meowth's charm color (gold).

I love it

Maybe I should start adding a disclaimer to all my James x Meowth fics:

📢 Meowth is always the Top Cat 📢

Fandom Problem #4346:

Fandom Problem #4346:

This is a pet peeve of mine and all together not that big of a deal but. I wish people started tagging who's bottoming and who's topping again. Look, I'm well aware that this is a weird thing to care about - if it were about real people. And I fully agree. But the thing is, in fanfiction this directly affects the characterization. Like, a lot. And everyone acts like they're above the seme/uke dynamics but it's always blatantly clear that they do still apply. Idk it just feels like an emperor's new clothes kind of situation to me. Like everyones just acting like they don't see or care about the pattern because "it's weird and creepy to care about such a thing". Personally, I don't think it makes me a bad person for caring about it because I can differentiate between fiction and reality. I just tend to get very particular about dynamics and really care about small details. Like, I don't care about it because I genuinely care about who's bottoming, I care because I can see the patterns and how it changes the dynamics...

In my case, the madness is shipping that pairing in the first place.

you ever see a ship you love so much and saying "i ship them" isn't enough. like no you don't understand they give me mental illness
