DUDE DUDE PELO POSTED THIS
It's only PART of the poster according to him, but holy shitttt
Extrapolating from what we see just a bit, I think this is the new demon dropping all pretenses and bursting out of Patty like an undersize shirt.
Gregor's expression is great and the general presentation is tops.
7 Days to Hollow Sorrows
Today's headcanon: Skid's favorite horror sub genre is slashers, Pump's is body horror
Also, there's something else coming today, seeing as we're a week away from a new episode....
6 Days to Hollow Sorrows
So, with the episode itself finished, all we have to do is wait out the captions for the premier. To celebrate, I'm doing a bit of a bigger hc today.
Today's headcanon: The house Skid and Lila live in was originally that of Lila's mother, due to her and subsequently Lila's financial situation, Lila never moved out and decided to focus on making the place as comfortable for her own family as she could. This is why grandma's body was in the house in the first episode.
Analyzing the Hollow Sorrows thumbnail for last minute predictions
The first thing I want to say is I didn't look at the cast list, so I don't know if there really is a new demon, but I'm operating under the assumption there is.
The eye in the background is Moloch's, being paralyzed, he's reduced to a watching ghostly presence and a looming threat if New Demon succeeds at freeing him.
The big thing is that Skid is looking at Gregor while Pump is looking at Patty, possessed by New Demon. I think this is symbolic of the role this episode will play in the boys' arcs. Pump is drawn to the more chaotic and unpredictable supernatural events happening in town. Pump is also the one who seems to be more affected by Eyes
On the other hand, Skid is drawn to Gregor, who is heavily implied to be a cultist in this image:
So him manipulating Skid into replacing his father is a distinct possibility. All this supports my idea that the finale episode will see a clash of Skid and the cult against Pump and Eyes.
Also, the fact that Gregor is shadowed in the same way as the villains serves as yet more evidence that his intentions aren't pure.
Loved this moment
"No, no, you can't run, you might hurt yourselves. Walk normally."
"Not THAT normally!"
Father Gregor: Spooky Month's fascinating anti-villain
Now, before I go full tilt into my rambling, I want to explain why I'm classing Gregor as an anti-villain. Put simply, his character flaws get in the way of his noble goals and lead to him and the boys being in danger.
So, what does Gregor do in Hollow Sorrows, anyway?
Well, he suddenly takes it upon himself to teach two unruly children how to act in a way he deems acceptable. Over the course of his effort he first gets them to ask people for forgiveness and/or make amends for issues they've caused. Where this went wrong is Gregor making the boys systematically apologies to everyone, including Patty, which leads to all the Moloch shenanigans, and Ignacio, which is implied to be what led to Gregor being sacrificed at the end of the episode.
Then we have the other lessons Gregor tried to teach the boys, all of which backfired, with Skid and Pump applying them in situations or ways Gregor didn't foresee or intend. The reason for these backfires being Gregor's inability to look past his own values and understand why someone might not act in accordance to them. He shows this almost every time he talks to someone other than the boys, as the criticisms he makes, while usually at least partly true, often don't come from the right place or don't consider context.
This is what makes Gregor an anti-villain to me, and why I consider this to be his episode instead of Moloch's. Pelo said in the stream where he redid the cultist reference sheet that he wants the villains of the episode to have a seven deadly sins theme to them. Seeing as the first 2 episodes didn't really have focused villains and the cult, as the big bads, aren't likely to be grouped with the episode specific villains, I always saw his statement as referring to episodes 3-9. With this in mind, the villains and their sins would be: Moloch- wrath (obsessed with getting revenge on the boys) Dexter- lust (bloodlust or his "needs") Bob- gluttony (duh) and now, with Hollow Sorrows, Gregor- pride (as his arrogance and perceived moral superiority to others continuously causes problems during the episode) I do have theories on the remaining episode villains and their sins connections, but that's a story for another post.
The Tree Banshee theory
This is a theory predicting the role of Spooky Month's most enigmatic monster, one many fans might not even know about yet, so sit back and enjoy!
Watching HS for a second time, Gregor's pose here stuck out to me, so I went back to check my hunch...
Yep, he's in the same pose as the figure on the left wing of the gate. But what about the tree like figure on the right wing?
Well, for that, we turn to the movie theatre, many fans know about the demon priest poster that foreshadowed HS back in TT, well we see a very interesting poster for a second in episode 6
"The Forest Sight", huh?
Now for the clencher, we turn to an image from the arg
The same eye patterns, and a ghoulish being I've come to call the Tree Banshee, you might remember it for it's scream in TT or for an illustration of it in the book from the TT arg.
I believe this entity also somehow benefits from sacrifices made to Eyes and that it will be a/the major monster of a future episode, which lines up well with my idea of Roy's episode being about him chasing Skid and Pump into the woods, where they get lost.
I just realized that in the last panel Gregor's head looks like he's being *spurted* out of the *tip* his cloths.....I regret nothing
My spooky month 6 prediction
This is a very real SM theory
What I've stumbled across this time is, I'll admit, completely batshit on the face of it. BUT, if you follow my flow of logic, I think you'll actually be more convinced than you'd expect
So, what is it that set my theorist mind off? Well, the character we knew we were meeting this episode, Aaron (which is apparently the name of Ross's dad in that model sheet)
We only see him twice (and no, your eyes aren't playing tricks on you, his tattoo changes what arm it's on between scenes) and in those scenes, he's mostly silent and is notably not paying attention to Jaune, despite her talking with their obviously distressed shared friend in the first scene and is separated from Jaune by the cinematography in the second scene.
From what we've seen of Aaron, both in this episode and the TT photos, he isn't very expressive, but he still shows his feelings through movement, or rather, a position in the photos, something absent in his present self.
So, what, if anything, lead to this seeming slight rift between Aaron and Jaune?
Well, we could assume it was something after Ross's birth, but could we narrow it down further? Yes, yes we can, mainly due to the first bomb I'm about to drop on you.
Jaune is a cult spy
Yes, I'm dead fucking serious. Let's look over the way the cult operates, shall we? They carefully monitor anything related to their plans while other members are on stand by, should something go wrong. How does this tie to Jaune?
Simple, she's the one keeping tabs on Lila, Ignacio does live closer, but is so abrasive, he could never get close enough to someone for intimate spying. Jaune on the other hand, as Lila's best friend, could theoretically keep tabs on certain aspects of Lila's life.
The next obvious question is why. Why would Jaune spy on Lila for a cult? Well, she wouldn't. She would, however, keep a close eye on her friend if someone else close to said friend, like say, said friend's husband, expressed concern for her emotional well being.
I know I'm probably losing some of you now, but this is where we get to another insanely counter intuitive yet convincing claim.
Jaune isn't spying on Lila because Lila's husband asked her, she's spying on Lila because she doesn't want Lila to know that-
Jaune had an affair with Lila's husband
I KNOW, I KNOW, I sound like Dale from King of the Hill right now, but I swear to you, this will all click together by the end.
Picture this, Jaune, a heavy drinker, is over at her friend's house one night when Lila's husband starts coming onto her and you know what happens, this goes from a one off event, to a semi-regular ritual for the pair. Some time later, he tells Jaune that he's worried Lila might catch on, and encourages her to carefully pay attention to any sudden mood shifts and.... share them wit ha trusted associate of his.
So, now that I've established the logic of this happening and that it will likely come into focus at some point, but what does this have to do with Aaron's detachment and how could it come into play?
It's not just that Aaron knows Jaune cheated and will reveal it to Lila, no, it's so much worse.
But first, I have to dispel some fanon for a moment, despite how popular the concept is, we have no in or out of series proof that Ross dyes his hair, the only photo of him we see is him and Aaron with Ross looking just as he does at present.
Why do I bring this up, oh my poor unsuspecting friends, it should be clear. If Ross has naturally black hair, that would mean-
Ross matches the genetic profile of Jaune and Skidad's biological child
And there you have it, the dark underbelly at back of the newest instalment in our beloved Halloween series.
And, if by some chance, you still don't believe this theory of Ross and Skid being half-brothers to be at the very least valid, well then, I have something that will blow your fucking mind.......
.........
And I'm not telling you cause it's 'Pril Fools Day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Moments from my first post HS hunger games
For those who haven't been here a while (and by "a while", I mean literally the first 2 days since I started regularly posting here), I did a highlight compilation post of moments from my Spooky Month hunger games simulator, and I'm doing it again, just with 36 characters instead of 24
That's some random stuff, but I also have some more specific insanity
First is what happened after Roy died
And after that....
Yeh
And then there's all the shit Garcia did
I'm so glad I used this image because it conjures the funniest mental images for me
And for those wondering how it ended,
I find it interesting that no one's pointed out this line from Moloch, we know Pelo is vey particular about the use of "everything" in SM, and here we have what is, to my knowledge, the first use of "nothing" in the franchise.
Now we have another word to keep an ear and eye out for. If you have any ideas, please share them in comments or RBs
I'm pretty sure Pelo confirmed on X after TT came out that we wouldn't see the boys grow during the course of the series. Maybe in an ending montage in episode 10 of in the spinoffs Pelo's briefly mentioned, but other than that, I don't think we'll be seeing these designs.
I'm glad they're talking about Pelo's VAing in SM 6 in the Spookycon (around 2 hours in) because I noticed immediately when watching how different Skid's voice sounded right at the end how it was lower and much more serious and emotional and apparently Pelo was crying himself during saying those lines and-
To be fair, I was strictly referring to these teen designs, keep in mind, the in universe gap between TT and HS is less than a month.
Skid is apparently 11 and Pump is 10, so Skid being relatively taller from here on out is understandable.
I think there's a good chance the rest of the series will take place over the course of 2014. We've had an episode in every season but spring, so it makes sense to do that with episode 7, which is all but confirmed to take place in the woods.

I think Pelo said it some time between DS and TT

Reviewing the Hollow Sorrows soundtrack
I did this back with the TADC pilot an had a great time with it, so I'm back with the latest addition to the SM score
Foolish Sinners
I really like the variety on display here, the spider's presence being underscored by frantic strings being a particular highlight. Short and sweet opening track.
The Garden's Guardian
Given that Gregor is the featured character of the episode, it's really important for his theme to be both effective and non-intrusive, as it plays several times in the episode. The actual feeling of the song is a great example of "showing the character's truth", as in, encapsulating Skid and Pump's first impressions of the father.
I'm Glad I Picked This Job
One of those fun bit tracks we get every so often in SM, and with a lovely chip-tune feel. My only complaint is that it makes me more bitter about the fact we won't get a proper sci-fi themed episode.
Sweet Enough
This one I'm a bit mixed on, we didn't really need another variant of Sweet & Sour, especially since we actually get 2 in this episode alone. It's not bad by any means, it just felt a bit unneeded.
Holy Sweet
I like how deliberately out of place this song feels, it feeds into the sense that Gregor is new and not used to the town's "local ways". Again, this also calls back to a character's truth, with Kevin's immediate dislike of Gregor.
Vessel's Parasite
I love the way this song unfolds like a summoning ritual for Moloch, it helps in setting just how much of a threat he really is. There's little else to say, just a great horror track.
The 9th Circle
So, this is the first appearance of what I've dubbed the "exorcism motif", but only later into the song, after it expands on Vessel's Parasite. This is followed by the emotional interlude, which I'm somewhat disappointed didn't feature the Happy Fella motif. The piano segment following this is the exorcism motif I alluded to earlier.
Valley of Shadows
I love this track, easily my favorite for this episode, it conveys a very unique energy that I feel it could only really be accompanied by a monster rampaging through town. I also like how it just so happened that the first SM episode to release after Undertale Yellow features what's easily the most Toby Fox-esqe track in the whole series, at least up to this point. I can't be the only one picking up the Dummy motif, right?
Ashes to Ashes
I'll just say what we're all thinking, I wish we got more of the evil Spooky Swings at the beginning, but alas, that isn't what the scene called for. Then we get the more intense version of the exorcism motif, which leads into the final confrontation. Said confrontation just amps up the drama of the melody, but in a very natural way.
Ruega Por Nosotros
I really like this simple track is composed of 2 neat segments, Gregor's motif and the exorcism motif. It helps sell the feeling of a literal hollow victory.
33:20
This really is just great eldritch ambience to be a cultist too, but that's all it needs to be. It also helps show Eyes as a genuine threat for the first time.
Disbelieve
First off, I find it interesting that the title isn't "Disbelief", but "Disbelieve", as if it's an order. Which would be fitting, as this is the first time we see the boys in genuine emotional pain and confusion. I'm very interested to see if this theme's motif will make any future appearances or quotes.
Judgement Hour
A really solid credits theme, it doesn't quite top Compliments to The Chef, but the way it starts as a Friendly Nightmares remix, before the Ooga Booga break and then goes into it's own thing is really creative and makes for a unique experience.
Now for the tracks outside the main episode.
I enjoyed this year's variation of the Newgrounds theme, and it's interesting how you can almost make out a genuine melody in title_missing3, like it's foreshadowing a theme for the Candy Dealer. Tubular Swings is nice, but nothing to really write home about.
Spooky Month Library AU
In a surprising turn of events, I'm not dead! And what is more, I've recently concocted a new AU to share with you all!
And before we get started, a special thanks to @crossover-enthusiast and @spookyscaryskidnpump / @woomy-wormy for helping develop this AU
The Premise
A library is briefly tasked with storing the mysterious Starborn Manuscript which is in truth a spell book. The librarian unknowingly reads a spell from it which leads to characters from the library's books coming to life as tiny paper people at night.
The Basic Lore
When close to the book of their origin, characters have access so abilities they have in the book but otherwise can't use.
Characters can be "tainted" by and sometimes reflect misdeeds of their authors.
Characters who are directly related (parents, grandparents, siblings) in SM share a book of origin. Other relatives are from different books by the same author.
The characters believe Eli the librarian, the only human they've caught brief glimpses of, to be their god.
Characters only come to life within the confines of the library.
Before we move on, let's appreciate this artwork curtesy of @woomy-wormy
The Characters and their books (some of them, anyway)
Skid, Lila and Skidad- Leads in a book from a kids' horror anthology wherein the father of the family is replaced by a monster, as the real dad doesn't directly appear in the story, the on that's brought to life is the monster.
Pump, Susie and Mr. Wonder- The main family in another book in the same anthology as Skid's family.
Roy, Carmen, Richard and Garcia- Carmen and Richard are the leads in a fantasy romance novel, Garcia orchestrates an elaborate scheme so Richard can be with Carmen and Roy is introduced into the story after a timeskip.
Ross, Jaune and Aaron- Ross is the protagonist of a cyberpunk YA dystopian novel
Robert and Radford- The leads in a lighthearted slice of life story.
John- Lead in a noir story.
Jack- Supporting character in a different noir story.
Rick- The main character of a newspaper strip which has a compendium in the library, speech bubbles appear when he talks.
Dexter and Michelle- A reclusive family from a gothic horror novella.
Hobomen- Tankmen doodles on a torn off and wadded up page of a student's notebook that rolled under a shelf
Bob- He's just a normal chef in his book of origin, but his author's recently outed violent tendencies have lead to him becoming much more violent than his book counterpart.
More characters to come soon, so stay tuned!
I KNOW WHAT THE NEXT SPOOKY SHORT IS GOING TO BE ABOUT
Okay, I know this is a bit of a clickbait-y title, but I'm writing this in a stroke of inspiration (courtesy of @crossover-enthusiast) and really think I'm onto something.
A while back, Pelo used this image to announce he was working on a second Spooky Short, one about Kevin's greatest fear/enemy, in his own words.
Since then, we've had a few hints on it's further contents and it's from those contents I believe I've cracked it's general plot.
This tiny image show's Kevin at work, nothing noteworthy there, if it wasn't for one of the updates on the short:
It's pretty obvious that Kevin is in casual attire. The best explanation for this, at least in my eyes, is that the short will open with Kevin finishing work and going home. The focus of the short will be on Kevin's personal life. But we can get even more specific in our prediction.
In this video (shoutout to @spooky-month-archive) we hear that Skid and Pump want to go trick or treating, and given when it's being recorded, it has to be for the short.
So now, with all this in hand, let's move onto THE PREDICTION
Kevin gets off work at the Candy Club and goes home (likely a small dingy apartment). He tries to relax, but Skid and Pump turn up at his door trick or treating, he initially tries to get rid off them, but then encounters the enemy alluded to earlier, who I'm guessing is either Kevin's landlord/lady or an ornery neighbor. Whoever they are, Kevin's enemy has a go at him, which provokes the spookees, who stand up for their "friend". The whole idea of the shot being that Kevin is more openly accepting of the spookees by the end.
We only have about 2 months before the short comes out, so we won't have to wait long to put this theory to the test
Roysie my beloved!
some things that i forgot abt... (believe it or not i have not abandoned this blog i prommy. i just changed hyperfixations like 3 times and im exploding)
