Crosshair x fem!reader | Word Count: 4642

The long conclusion. <3 I believe this story is over now, but wow, I had so much fun with this. But who knows, maybe I'll write a sequel someday if the story continues. Anyway, Crosshair is such a meaningful character to me, so I wanted to analyze what went on in the TV series from a narrative view. This is a deep dive into who he is as a character and to add more paradise to his Pabu life. I hope you enjoy. Thank you for reading. It's insane to me that there's a few of you on here that look forward to me posting. Thank you -- it really does mean a lot.

Part 8: The Defective Clone

He must have picked you up and taken you to his room sometime that night without you noticing. The morning sun broke through the curtains in small wavy bursts as the curtain moved with the breeze, illuminating the room with a soft glow.

Crosshair’s chest rose and fell in a deep sleep with one arm stretched out placing his bicep softly under your neck, your head on the pillow; his other arm fell over his brow. His beard shadow highlighted the short hair on his head that was growing back everywhere but this scarred area. It was so short, but you desperately wanted to run your hand through it. You let your desires take control.

With soft fingertips, you ran your hand over his head, and down his neck to his bare chest. You lightly pulled yourself closer and continued to caress your lover, planting small kisses up his neck and jawline. He began to wake, and while you did feel bad for waking him early, you couldn’t help yourself.

His arm left his brow as he shifted onto his side and he pulled you into his chest. His lips softly pressed against your forehead, then he snuggled into the pillow at your eye level once more.

“Mornin’,” he groggily mutters. The low grit in his half-asleep voice made you feel so alive. You rested your hand on his jaw bone, once again tracing the tattoo around his eye with your thumb. The pattern comforted you.

You whispered to him, “Is it okay if I get up?”

“No,” he happily grumbled and gave you a soft squeeze.

You smiled. Oh, how you won this stoic creature’s heart.

“Can we get up?” you softly laughed.

Crosshair opened one of his eyes slightly, the sight of you made him smile. He shifted a little in bed and stretched one arm out above his head, but he let his arm drop into a relaxed state again over you.

“No,” he chuckled, then sighed.

You continued your onslaught of soft kisses up his neck, face, behind his ear, his temples, you slowly swept across his face, pushing your body up with an arm on each side of his head, you slipped your leg over his hip to climb on top of him. Continuing to kiss him up his jaw, you barely brushed your bottom lip to his top lip, then paused.

He opened his eyes to see what brought you hesitation. Three words surfaced while looking into his eyes.

“I think— I think I love you,” you whispered, afraid of how he’d react.

Crosshair sat up quickly. His eyes grew wider, shocked that you would ever reveal such sensitive information. His gaze softened as he ran his hand through your hair; studying every detail and line on your face. His fingers swept around your cheekbone and settled at your chin, where he drew your lips near to his. Softly kissing you and lightly sucking on your top lip, he pulled away.

“You think?” He flirted.

You smiled, bashfully. Of course, he’d make you say it again. You breathed in. “Crosshair, I love you,” you professed. He searched your eyes, still in some disbelief he could ever be loved.

“I love you,” he breathed out. “I’ve loved you for so long.”

You kissed leisurely once more, savoring the moment. Breaking the kiss, he softly smiles and sits back into the bed. You sit next to him in the bed and pull yourself close.

He rests one arm around you, then reaches across you with the other to pull his toothpicks down from the headboard. He takes one, places it in his mouth, then takes another and offers it to you. You smile and accept it. He leans back against the headboard and rests his head on yours.

Outside of his room, you heard the rest of the house begin their morning routines. Doors opened and closed; water moved through pipes; footsteps shuffled. Crosshair sighs. You look up to him.

“Omega will pound on my door any second now to go fishing,” he chuckles.

*Bang, Bang, Bang*

Like clockwork, you could hear Omega outside of Crosshair’s room.

“Crosshair, are you ready?” She called through the door. Taking the toothpick from your lips, you piped up, “Yeah, give us a minute–,” but Crosshair threw his pillow onto your face in an effort to muffle your voice. You laughed, realizing Crosshair was hiding you. You could hear Omega audibly gasp outside the door.

“You stayed the night?” She exclaimed in disbelief.

“Uh, no. It’s just me,” Crosshair was so bad at lying sometimes. You held the pillow to your face to muffle your laughter.

“Well, I’ll tell Wrecker to set out one more plate for breakfast. Then you and my new sister can come fishing with us,” Omega prompted.

Omega’s shadow skipped away from underneath the door gap and Crosshair fell back into the bed, taking you down with him. He smoothly slides into a gentle, but heated kiss, then pulls back quickly.

“Will you come back tonight?” He stressed.

Taking his head into your hands and pressing his forehead lightly into yours, all you could think was, Duh. But you couldn’t even be sarcastically cruel to him as you melted into his hold, but could you still tease him?

“I’ll think about it,” you smiled. “Good Maker,” he rolled out of bed and pulled on his bottoms and a fresh top while flashing his pearly teeth at you.

Still wearing the attire you had landed in, you rummaged through his closet to replace your top with one of his. You’d officially clean up after the morning’s fishing trip concluded. Crosshair leaned against the door frame waiting for you.

“What?” You said, catching him staring at you through the neckhole while pulling on his shirt.

“You’re cute,” he winked and opened the door to disappear into the hallway.

—

You sat down next to Hunter and an empty chair saved for Crosshair. Hunter looks up from his breakfast and side-eyes you, then quickly returns his gaze to his plate. He clears his throat.

“Did you stay — did you sleep comfortably?” He states.

“Ye—,” you began.

“She DID,” Omega talked over you with one hand on the table, leaning into Hunter’s space. “Or, I don’t know how she slept, but she did sleep here... Or did you sleep…?” She backtracked, shook her head a bit, and returned to her seat. Eyes widened, she looked back to you, “How did you sleep?” she interrogated.

You felt your nostrils flare in embarrassment, but did your best to keep it cool. You held back your laughter too as Omega was so funny about her ownership of her brothers.

You weren’t ready to be the intense focus of breakfast. You kept it honest and quick.

“I slept better than I have in a long time,” you replied. “I don’t think I caught more than a few hours on our trip.”

Omega turned her head a little and squinted one eye at you. What was she wanting you to say? You laughed it off and reached for a pancake from the center plate on the table. Crosshair walked into the kitchen; he must have been in the refresher as the shadow that wrapped his chin was shaven.

Wrecker turned from the stove and slapped his back, winking and laughing in a frat boy-like nod of approval. Crosshair looked to the ground and groaned a little. You rolled your eyes too as the situation felt a little too objectifying for your taste. You played into it.

Mirroring Wrecker, you playfully slapped Crosshair’s back as he sat down at the table and asked, “So how was last night?”

Crosshair was rarely caught off-guard. The visual shock that blanketed his ghostly face nearly made Hunter spit his drink out.

Crosshair couldn’t believe that you’d play into Wrecker’s joke. Hunter cleared his throat again and took a moment to swallow safely while staring off into space.

Omega was living for the cumbersome breakfast scene. She breathed in.

“Did —- ,“ she began at Crosshair, nearly standing in her chair.

“Don’t,” Hunter grabbed her shoulder and pulled her back into her seat. She let a small laugh escape her lips, then the awkward silence ensued.

All you could hear at the table was chewing noises and forks scraping against the plates. An analog clock ticked in the background. Batcher occasionally whined to Omega for a piece of pancake. Wrecker finished flipping the last pancake and sat down with his own enormous plate. Within the silence, Echo materialized in the kitchen. “Well, this is rare,” Echo teased, “Usually someone’s getting their head torn off mid-way through a meal.”

“Oh well, that’s because we forgot to tell you what Crosshair and I did on your ship,” you deadpanned, slicing your fork through a pancake.

Hunter and Crosshair spat their drink and food out simultaneously. Omega and Wrecker lost themselves in laughter. Echo, well, looked like he normally does when he’s slightly confused.

“You did what?” Echo’s eyebrows furrowed.

“Oh you know,  —,” you began. Crosshair squeezed your knee under the table.

“Please shut up,” Crosshair mumbled to you.

“Oh, bloody hell,” Echo huffed as his shoulders dropped the tension. You could tell that as a soldier that had seen it all, he didn’t care.

You winked at Crosshair and silently laughed. You truly had a knack for that reckless banter. He just looked at you in disbelief, shook his head, and released your knee.

“You’re worse than Wrecker,” he sighed and returned to his food. “But I still love you.”

“YOU LOVE HER?” Omega exclaimed, this time standing in her chair and leaning over the table with both hands under her. She couldn’t believe such words would ever escape Crosshair’s lips.

“Zip it,” Crosshair pointed his fork at her.

Hunter, once again, guided Omega back into her seat.

Echo looked down at Hunter, who was looking spent. You got the feeling Hunter wanted to run a very clean household for Omega’s sake. You shot him a look of silent apology and returned your attention to getting another pancake.

“It looks like you have things under control,” Echo joshed and put his hand on Hunter’s shoulder as he tried to return the conversation to a normal temperature. “I’m going to head out.” He nodded towards you, “Thanks again for the ship.” And he started towards the door, “I’ll comm you all soon,” he said with his back to the family as he opened the door. He paused and shot you and Crosshair a glance, and sighed.

“Keep an eye on him, okay?” He said to you.

“You know I will,” you assured Echo.

Then Echo looked at Omega, “And you keep an eye on them.”

“Yes, Sir!” Omega enthused.

Echo left, and the room remained quiet. In your careless efforts to make things better, you indeed made them worse and more awkward. While Crosshair was severe and unyielding, but also so soft and sweet (to you), you were still hopelessly reckless and intense. You knew Crosshair brought out a softer side in you too. You tapped into it.

“Omega,” you began, “I’m sorry I never asked you for permission.”

“My permission?” She was taken back by the question.

“Can I date your brother?” You inquired.

“Why — would you ask me?” Omega raised an eyebrow. You could feel Hunter’s soft smile return from across the table.

“I know I’m asking a lot to share his attention,” you shrugged. Omega smiled back at you.

“He’s a great brother,” she chirped. “I can see why you like him.”

Crosshair looked up at her from his plate and beamed back at her.

Omega tilted her head a little and narrowed her eyes at you.

“Is there anything in this for me?” Omega tested you.

“I’ll try to be a good sister. If you’ll let me,” you affirmed.

Omega nodded towards you.

“I’ll try to be a good sister too,” she then returned her attention to her plate. “But if you break his heart, I’m going to break something of yours.”

Hunter’s hand flew up to his brow, causing a slapping sound, and he exhaled hard. Wrecker let out a small laugh.

“Sorry,” Wrecker apologized to you.

Hunter eyed Omega, “We’re working on not dishing out open threats, right?”

Omega shrugged and raised an eyebrow at Hunter. You just laughed and put your arm around Crosshair.

“I wonder where she gets that from,” you laugh, meeting Crosshair’s gaze.

Crosshair also sighed and put a hand to his forehead.

“Don’t lose that protective side, Omega,” you nodded in her direction and picked up your drink to toast her efforts.

Omega radiated a little at you in gratitude. With a brave little smile, she nodded in your direction.

—--

You and Wrecker loaded the boat with fish bait, rods, and more while Omega and Crosshair sat at the end of the dock with the sun to their backs. Omega would laugh, kick her feet, and Crosshair never took his eyes off of her.

“Wrecker, I’m not screwing anything up by being here, right?” you threw a question his way while staring at Crosshair listening so intently to his sister.

“You? Nah,” he grunted while moving another crate of bait inside the boat. “But I am sorry we gave you and Crosshair a hard time at breakfast this morning.” “I expected nothing less,” you laughed.

Wrecker smiled at you, “I was surprised you actually took it up a few levels. I’ve never seen either Crosshair or Hunter so flustered,” he roared with laughter. You raised your eyebrows at him comedically, and returned to watching Crosshair and Omega.

“You’re all amazing father figures to her,” you remarked, looking back to Omega.

“Eh, we do our best,” Wrecker paused his work to watch Crosshair and Omega with you.

“I never had that,” you confessed quietly.

“But don’t be afraid that by being here that you’re taking that away from her,” Wrecker declared. “That’s not how that works.”

You nodded, as it did make sense. But he had hit what you were feeling on the head. They were all so emotionally astute.

“Have you met Phee yet?” Wrecker sat down on the bench with his work concluded.

“Who?” you asked.

“Phee,” Wrecker smiled. “She’s Tech’s gal. Omega looks up to her like a mother.”

You sat down next to him and sighed, “Tech’s story keeps getting… worse.”

“Yeah, well,” Wrecker tried to shake off his emotions to keep the conversation light. “It isn’t going to be long before Omega looks up to you the same way she looks to Phee.”

You nodded, “I won’t let her down.” You and Wrecker watched Omega and Crosshair continue to chat, oblivious that the boat was ready.

“Hey Wrecker, thank you for being so kind,” you mentioned.

“Of course. Any friend of Crosshair’s is a friend of mine,” he nodded, then turned to Omega and Crosshair. “Hey, we could use some help here!”

Omega shot up and ran to the boat like it was a battlefield order. Crosshair took his time to stand and brush off his pants before walking over. You stood to meet him as he stepped into the boat.

Crosshair walked over to you and wrapped you in an embrace; his chin placed on top of your head. He sighed a breath of relaxation.

“So, you’re not upset with how breakfast went?” You clarified.

“No,” he softly chuckled. “That went better than I thought it would. Despite it being excruciating at the moment. I think they thought I’d…” He trailed off a little.

You raised an eyebrow, “What?”

“That I’d keep you a secret,” Crosshair shrugged.

“Ah,” you nodded into his chest, “We tend to keep a lot of those.”

“They’re used to me hiding things; or not talking. But it’s impossible to hide you,” he kissed the top of your head.

“Are you two love purrgils ready?” Omega yelled from stern. Wrecker laughed at her comment. She pulled hard down on the throttle and the whole boat lurched forward violently, causing you and Crosshair to nearly lose your balance.

—---

Crosshair had his arm around you as you sat next to each other at the back of the boat, jetting towards the horizon. Omega killed the engine once the island was out of sight. She ran to the rods, throwing one to Wrecker, Crosshair, and you. You were a little surprised that she had packed one for you.

Casting lines into different directions, Omega kicked back and took out a doll. She weaved the fabric together to create parts of the doll that were missing.

“Did you make that?” You asked.

“Yeah, this one is you,” she showed you the doll closer.

The helmet and armor were black; the belt and shoes cool and sleek; Omega’s doll was rather accurate to your bounty hunting look.

“How’d you know I wear armor like that?” You questioned.

“Crosshair told me,” Omega informed. “Last night, he told me all about your adventure while you slept on the porch.”

Omega’s line bobbed up and down, then jerked to the side.

“Wrecker! I think it’s a big one!” She exclaimed as she dropped your doll to her seat and raced to catch the rod.

Omega wound the rod’s line back and pulled, but she was correct, it was a huge fish. She slid forward, catching her feet on the side of the boat as the fish tried to pull her in. Wrecker jumps to catch her from falling out. Together, Wrecker and Omega work to get the fish close. Crosshair prepares the net. Once it was close enough, he swished the net through the water, capturing it. Wrecker then pulls the fish aboard. It was massive.

Omega sat down hard on the ship’s deck and caught her breath.

“Well, that’ll keep us fed for at least two weeks,” she looked at Wrecker with a huge smile.

Wrecker shrugged, “Eh, maybe three days.”

“Three days?!” Omega exclaimed.

—----

You headed back to your ship in the evening; slightly sunburned and exhausted. Despite finishing fishing early, you had spent the day on the beach and water with the Bad Batch. That family partied hard.

In the evening, Omega had finished her doll and added it to her “collection.” Wrecker started to make food, and you slipped out the back while Hunter and Crosshair debated whether or not Separatist tanks were better than the Republic tanks if they were piloted by the same droid.

Echo had left your ship on the beach away from the city. You enjoyed the silence and sea mist on your walk over. Opening the door, you were hit with a familiar feeling of loneliness you knew you had outgrown. It wasn’t long ago that this ship was all you had. Inspecting the cockpit and living quarters, nothing had changed in the cabin. Echo hadn’t even poured himself a drink or helped himself to food.

You took a hot shower, found some clean clothes, and felt a little nostalgic. Illuminating the holo-archive, you reviewed old holograms of the Tarkin family; before the Empire. Eriadu was a beautiful planet; but not one you grew to be familiar with. Your only connection to it was through these holograms of your grandparents and parents.

By the time you were born, the wealth of the family had taken your familial unit off-planet and away from the legendary Tarkin compound. Your heart sank a little when you cycled through to a photo of you as a child. The hollow feeling returned; part of you missed the Empire; or perhaps just having a family. Knowing that being yourself would never be enough still ate you up inside.

You cycled to another photo taken about a decade ago as a young adult. Your hair, expression, and Imperial clothing haunted you.

“Is that you?” A voice appeared in the doorway to your ship. You had forgotten to seal it up. Crosshair stepped inside.

“Yeah,” you nodded. “Pretty… Different, isn’t she?”

“I wouldn’t have recognized you on the street,” Crosshair admitted. He sat down next to you looking closer at the hologram.

You cycled to the next one. Your parents and siblings as you remembered them when you were young illuminated. The family portrait was filled with serious Imperial expressions as it was customary to not smile or show emotion as elitists.

“So, this one is my family,” you introduced Crosshair to the hologram. “I'd like to introduce you more properly, but I can’t. So, here’s Mom, Dad, Gavin, Crix, and Lieda.”

“When was the last time you saw them?” Crosshair wondered.

“It’s been over ten years now,” you lamented. “I think they’re all still alive. I’ve been tempted to look or spy, but I don’t know what’s worse…”

“What’s worse?” Crosshair tucked your hair behind your ear with his fingers.

“If they’re dead or alive. If they’re dead, I guess I’d be more forgiving that they’d never look for me, but then they’re dead. That’s it. If they’re alive… Then I’m still dead to them,” you tried to explain. Crosshair seemed to understand. He put his arm around you and looked back to the hologram. You sighed and melted into his embrace.

“I’ve had some contact with Crix, but he can’t lay off the spice,” you confessed. “He’s not technically a deserter, but he doesn’t follow all of the rules so strictly. But I am banned from seeing him. Banned from helping him.”

Crosshair’s eyebrows furrowed, not knowing that you still felt so much pain over your family. He tightened his grip around you and put his lips to your crown. You decided to change the subject.

“So, when will I hear the story of your hand?” You asked, sitting up a little. Crosshair looked to the side away from you to his prosthetic laying beside him. He breathed in deeply and picked up his mechanical hand to place it in yours.

“It was cut off,” Crosshair deadpanned.

You didn’t push him to say anything more. Stroking his fingertips to his palm, you just nodded. Crosshair exhaled deeply once more.

“It’s strange that I feel safe telling you things,” he admitted.

“It’s not a bad thing,” you lifted his mechanical hand and kissed it.

He smiled softly, hesitated, and began to open up.

“My time in the Empire ended with imprisonment after I attempted to avenge Mayday,” he begins slowly.

“But they wouldn’t let me die. Even after all I had done,” he sighed. “No, they kept me for experimentation. They tried to erase my identity; condition me into a super soldier for the Empire. But it was there that I discovered who I really am.”

“And who’s that?” You asked as he trailed off.

“A defective clone.” Crosshair’s voice broke a little. He breathed in sharply. “Tech once said I was severe and unyielding in nature and that I could never change that. But the Empire stripped me of everything I thought I was. Tech was right, but… I was wrong about myself.”

His eyes grew glassy, but no tears fell. He cleared his throat and continued.

“I expected their conditioning to work on me. I waited for the day that I’d wake up and not be “me” anymore; but it never happened. Every morning, I’d wake to my regrets, the emptiness I held from missing my brothers and other clones that had disappeared, and I’d wake to my hatred for the Empire… And my severe hatred for myself.”

A tear did escape, but he wipes it quickly in hopes that you wouldn’t notice.

“Omega saved us. She was imprisoned too. After we escaped, the Empire sent the conditioned clones to collect her. They succeeded in taking her back to Tantis, so I returned with Hunter, Wrecker, and Echo to bring her home. But I couldn’t shoot the same after we escaped the first time, making the mission nearly impossible.”

He hesitated again and removed his mechanical prosthetic.

“My hand would shake after we left Tantis. Omega had convinced me to get it checked out, but the clinical droid said it was in my head. There wasn’t anything wrong with my hand, but instead there was something wrong with me.” He shook his head and put the prosthetic back on and looked to you for permission to keep going. You listened intently. He took another breath and dove back in.

“In the effort to retrieve Omega, a conditioned clone made a point to relieve me of my trigger hand. I once thought that this hand, or the skill I had as a sniper, was part of what made me, me. But even after it was gone, I continued to exist. I still wake up without it; I still wake with my regrets and self-loathing; I’m still everything the Empire couldn’t erase: severe and unyielding to myself; the defective clone.”

Crosshair turns to face you in the booth and takes your hand in his. His gaze is soft, but focused on your intertwined hands.

“I thought you could understand me after we talked that first day,” he concluded. “My brothers, they could understand on the surface. Omega just takes me for who I am regardless of what I’ve experienced. But you, you could understand my past in a way no one else can.”

He looks up for your reaction. He meets your eyes; your heartbroken gaze. You had so many questions, but you couldn’t find your words. You just stared into the eyes of the bravest, strongest man you had ever met.

“Crosshair,” you began.

“Mmm?” He too had run out of words.

You wrapped him up into a tight embrace; your hand on the back of his neck and around his waist. A tear escaped your eye, as you felt so much pain for him. You wanted to hold him as if you could alleviate some of that burden, but you knew if you could it would only be temporary. Crosshair didn’t expect your embrace, but he reciprocated gently. You held him there for some time before speaking.

“You’ve traveled to a deeper level of hell than I,” you continued to hold him. You pulled back from your embrace and rested your forehead against his to search his eyes. They were filled with painful recollections. “I’m so incredibly grateful for who you are.” You pressed a kiss against his cheek. “Our circumstances or experiences with the Empire are so vastly different; but you understand me too. The loneliness; the abandonment; the mistakes; the — ‘never fitting’ the desired mold... I’ve needed you for so long.”

Crosshair’s expression shifted from a painful grimace to beaming with light.

“You need me?” Crosshair whispered.

You teared up at his question and could only nod. You gathered him into an embrace once more as if you’d never let go.

“I don’t deserve you,” he gathers you in his arms and presses his face into the nape of your neck.

“Too bad,” you pull away and rest your lips on his. “You have me.”

——-

The sun began to set on Pabu; the rays of light stretching out across the ocean as the sun prepared for its slumber. Hand-in-hand, you and Crosshair returned to the Bad Batch home for what would hopefully be a late meal.

Entering the home, the kitchen was already emptied. A dim light illuminated the walls of the backroom. The family was cuddled and laughing together around moving holograms.

“We’re watching a holofilm!” Omega announced without standing from her place. Hunter motioned to the empty end of the couch. Crosshair looks to you and motions for you to take a seat. Sitting down, you guide him close to you. He sits down and wraps his arms around you. Settling into his chest, you close your eyes and lose yourself in his breathing. You feel yourself fade into a deep sleep as Omega and the brothers laugh.

Week 2: Injured

Summer of Bad Batch | Crosshair x Hunter | Post-Tantis Rescue on Pabu | One Shot | 349 words

Week 2: Injured

Hunter slides the patio door open and steps out, “You’re still up?”

Crosshair gave a silent hello with a gentle nod as he briefly removed his toothpick. He kicks back and sinks more into his chair with an audible exhale.

“Did Omega get to sleep?” Crosshair asks Hunter without taking his gaze from the star-speckled horizon.

“Yeah,” Hunter chuckles as he sits down next to Crosshair. “She took quite the spill today, didn’t she?”

Remaining silent, Crosshair looks off to the side away from Hunter.

“She’s okay, Crosshair. AZ is looking after her. She’ll be fine,” Hunter assures.

Crosshair nods and meets Hunter’s gaze, “I know.” He looks back to the horizon and continues to fidget with his toothpick.

“Then what is it?” Hunter furrows his eyebrows.

Feeling pressed, Crosshair sighs and gathers his thoughts.

“I didn’t realize this… desire to protect her would last after rescuing her from Tantis,” he confesses. “I didn’t know I would continue to worry.”

“I understand,” Hunter nods. “We’re clones, but I never know what she’ll do next. I’d do anything for that kid. ”

“It’s exhausting,” Crosshair shakes his head and chuckles, “But I’d also do anything for her.”

Hunter smiles and chuckles with Crosshair in agreement. Hunter continued to look at his brother and smiled in contentment.

“What?” Crosshair snarks, feeling Hunter’s eyes.

“There was a while where I never thought we’d get you back,” Hunter reveals.

“How touching,” Crosshair snakes expressionless without taking his attention off the horizon and his toothpick. He side-eyes Hunter, who still had his eyes locked on him; Crosshair then clears his throat, “I mean…” He hesitates and removes his toothpick from his lips.

“What?” Hunter raises an eyebrow, amazed that Crosshair may say more than his conversation-ending catch phrase.

“I once mentioned to you that kids weren’t your area of expertise,” Crosshair looks at Hunter.

“Uh-huh?” Hunter nodded, remembering the exchange in the Kamino spaceport years ago.

“I was right,” Crosshair sighs and returns to looking out over the Pabu coastline.

Hunter’s lips turn upward into a sly smile, “It’s good to have you back, Crosshair.”

Week 10: “Just when were you planning on telling us that?”

Summer of Bad Batch | Crosshair x Hunter x Omega x Wrecker | Post-Tantis Rescue on Pabu | One Shot | 250 words

Week 10: Just When Were You Planning On Telling Us That?

Hunter accidentally hit the kitchen table so hard it made him jump a little, “And just when were you planning on telling us that?” He started.

Omega shrugged and tossed the small bag onto the table, causing the credits to pour out.

“Whoa!” Wrecker exclaimed. “You were hiding all of this?”

“I forgot about them!” She laughed.

“And how did you get, what is that —” Hunter rummaged his hands through the spilled credits and picked up the bag, shocked to see more inside.

“The thirty thousand credits?” Crosshair intervened as he stepped into the room behind Omega.

“Thirty thousand?” Hunter’s jaw dropped.

Crosshair folded his arms and looked to his sister with a mischievous grin.

“No,” Hunter shook his head at Omega, “You were gambling? Again?”

“It was for a good cause,” Omega smirked. “But we ended up doing things Crosshair’s way and didn’t need to use them.” She looked back up at Crosshair to try and pin some of the blame.

“My way was much, much cheaper,” he slithered.

“Your way?” Hunter glanced at Crosshair.

“Uh-huh,” Crosshair picks up a pretend rifle made of air, peers down its scope, pulls the trigger, and acts like the pretend blaster kicks against his shoulder.

Hunter put his hand over his eyes, then created a gap between his fingers to look through. Shifting his eyes to look at both Crosshair and Omega, he asked, “When was this?” “Oh, like months and months ago,” Omega sighed.

“I thought you’d be happy,” Crosshair gaslit.

Rewatching S2 E2 of The Bad Batch and observing Tech fret over the re-entry boosters on the crate as it falls to the ground. It'd be cool if he just made some Mandalorian-like re-entry boosting modifications to his suit, but didn't tell anyone because he thought "it was obvious" after that experience.

The Frat Boy Days - The Bad Batch Workout Split

Hi everyone! I've created a "Frat Boy Days" edition to follow up my first Clone Force 99 Workout Program. This one includes a day for Echo :) I'm also working on a 501st split; but it's taking a while longer to develop, so stay tuned! I wrote more on the fictional side too, so we get a little more insight on how the squad works together in the gym, how they approach the weights, and what their favorite things are. I hope you enjoy! I had a lot of fun with this.

The Frat Boy Days - The Bad Batch Workout Split

Wrecker - Quads and Calves

Wrecker outlifts everyone in the squad, for obvious reasons, but his squat and deadlift abilities outshine most large species in the galaxy. It can be challenging to have a lifting buddy that will always be stronger, but Wrecker lifts up the people around him and encourages them to push their limits. It doesn’t matter if he already got his workout in for the day or if he’s busy, he’ll always drop what he’s doing to accompany a squad-mate or friend in the gym.

Warm Up

Wrecker likes to get his blood moving and warm up on the treadmill. He’ll sport gigantic hoodies and sweatpants, often throwing the hood up to keep his head warm too. Often giddy, he’ll use the treadmill next to Tech or Echo for great conversation.

10 minutes walking on treadmill

Pre-Exhaust

The pre-exhaust set is one of Wrecker’s favorites of the day because it warms the body to be more explosive. The purpose of a pre-exhaust set(s) is to bring blood flow to the muscle you’re targeting during the workout session. This will help you target that muscle better (that mind-muscle connection Tech goes on about) throughout the session and warm the muscle for better performance.

Leg Extension - 2 sets of 20

Core

After your muscles are warmed, it’s time to put them to work. Wrecker focuses up and pops a few pieces of sour gummy candies for a quick carbohydrate source. Just like defusing a bomb, Wrecker recommends that you work methodically and safely. Double-check your stance, don’t work with a weight that is too heavy, and make sure you’re warm. He bundles up in a hoodie to sweat through to stay warm. If he starts to overheat, he’ll throw that sweaty pump cover at Crosshair as a joke, but we all know Crosshair loathes it.

Wrecker recommends that you pick a weight that you can lift comfortably, but will begin to safely struggle through the 10th rep. It’s okay if you struggle around rep 8, just make sure you can re-rack the weight safely. Wrecker also enjoys lowering the weight down slowly and EXPLODING upwards.

Barbell Squats: 3 sets of 8-10

Superset: Leg Press (Narrow Stance) + Leg Press (Calf Raise): 3 sets of 10-12

Hack Squat (Or Goblet Squat if Hack Squat machine is unavailable): 3 sets of 8-10

Finisher

Wrecker loves how his legs feel like jelly after the core portion of the workout. Now, it’s time to finish up with a circuit of bodyweight exercises (but Wrecker usually adds weight because he eats pain for breakfast).

Repeat circuit 3 times:

Walking Lunges: 16 reps

Squat Jump: 8 reps

Side Lunge Stretch: 6 reps

The Frat Boy Days - The Bad Batch Workout Split

Crosshair - Push

Crosshair’s tendencies to push people away translate quite well to traditional push days in the gym. He pictures the weight coming down on him like Wrecker coming in for a hug and the intense strength to push the weight away flows through Crosshair naturally. Crosshair prefers to work with the smith machine because he doesn’t love asking a squad-mate to spot him, but Tech often inserts himself to spot and info-dump at Crosshair as he works through his sets. Tech’s endless banter frustrates him, but Crosshair knows he can lift heavier with the one-sided conversation in the background.

Warm Up

Crosshair doesn’t enjoy warming up, but he knows it’s healthier. He’s had that lecture from Tech, and Wrecker, and Hunter, and Echo, so he just grits his toothpick and gets through a quick warmup before hitting the weights.

10 minutes of walking on treadmill

Arm circles 2 sets of 20

Pre-Exhaust

Similar to pinpointing a target in your scope before pulling the trigger, your pre-exhaust set should target the muscle before hitting the core section of the workout. Crosshair recommends to really squeeze the pectoral muscles during the chest flys to increase blood flow. The increased blood flow will help you focus on the pectorals during the core exercises.

Chest Fly - 2 sets of 15

Core

Crosshair says to keep your chest proud and pronated as you push the weights upward. Before you grab heavier weights, slow your motion downwards, squeeze the muscles in use, and pause at the bottom/top. This will make each movement more effective and keep your joints healthier. Being the marksman that he is, he’ll record each weight and reps that he achieves to push himself the next time he’s in the gym.

Incline Bench Press - 3 sets of 8-10

Bench Press - 3 sets of 8-10

Shoulder Press -3 sets of 8-10

Superset: Delt Raise + Front Raise - 3 sets of 10-12

Cable Tricep Pull-down - 3 sets 10-12

Finisher

Being the soldier he is, Crosshair enjoys pushups. Being lean and strong, Crosshair can crank out nearly 70-100 reps before he fails each set, but he doesn’t expect that many reps from anyone else because he believes he is superior. In the years after the Republic fell, he has been much more understanding that anyone daring to push to failure is admirable.

Pushups - 3 sets until failure

Crosshair’s bonus tip: Once you’ve pushed yourself to failure on pushups, move to performing pushups on your knees and work until failure.

The Frat Boy Days - The Bad Batch Workout Split

Tech - Glutes and Hamstrings

Similar to Wrecker, Tech never skips leg day. He understands that working out legs boosts testosterone and other growth hormones, stimulates full-body circulation, and is great to release stress and endorphins. Crosshair and Hunter sometimes skip leg day and it confuses Tech. He mocks them that they could be in a better mood if they just trained their legs more.

Warm Up

Walking helps warm your lower back muscles and brings blood flow to your legs. Tech will also stretch after walking; he’ll touch his toes, bend in half and let his upper body hang to the floor, and twist to loosen his back up.

10 minutes walking on treadmill

Stretch

Pre-Exhaust

Tech says to use this exercise to not only warm up the muscle, but to also deepen your stretch. Using the weight to help pull your muscle (safely), you’ll be able to lift heavier later more safely.

Lying Hamstring Curl - 2 sets of 15

Core

Tech’s deadlift form is perfect. His main key points are to place your feet shoulder-width apart, pull your shoulders back, and push through your heels as you stand. If you choose to wear a belt, remember that its main purpose is for you to push against with your core as you activate your abdominal muscles.

Traditional Deadlift - 3 sets of 8-10

Romanian Deadlift - 3 sets of 8-10 Tech recommends to move down slowly and only go up 80% of the way to keep tension on your glutes and hamstrings for the entire set.

Bulgarian Split Squats - 3 sets of 10-12 Tech says to set yourself up parallel to a mirror so you can check to see that the working leg is bending to a 90-degree angle. The 90-degree angle will keep your knee joints safe and target the muscles more effectively. Ensure that your knee does not extend past your foot as you squat down. If the Bulgarian Split Squat is too difficult, a regular split squat will work fine, but be sure to check the angle of your leg.

Sitting Hamstring Curl - 3 sets of 8-10

Finisher

Tech enjoys a challenge after a hard leg day. He’ll take his time with these lunges; meaning he’ll do 10, take a breather and check his data pad, then bang out 12 more, and so on. He knows that the lactic acid buildup the lunges trigger is painful, but he pushes through. Tech says that pushing yourself through painful and tough situations primes your body to push through tough situations when your squad depends on it.

Walking Lunges - 2 sets of 50 reps (25 each side)

The Frat Boy Days - The Bad Batch Workout Split

Hunter - Pull

Hunter loves his back days because he can put in his headphones and listen to his “dad rock” without any flack from his brothers. He’ll often pick a time he can go alone because back day doesn’t require any spotting help. He loves his squad, but taking some time to pull away and sort through thoughts and physically work through things is a highlight of his week.

Warm Up

While Hunter is on the treadmill, he’ll build out his playlist for the workout and set his intentions. As a master of visualization, he’ll visualize which muscles he’ll be focusing on and succeeding throughout the workout.

10 minutes walking on treadmill

Pre-Exhaust

In Hunter’s opinion, there’s not a better way to get a pump on than hashing through a few sets of pull ups. Hunter will typically warm up with his bodyweight, but isn’t opposed to adding weight. For beginners, he recommends using the assisted pull up machine and working towards failure, even as a warm up. He’s… intense.

Assisted Pull Ups - 2 sets till failure

Core

Hunter is all about controlling the weight and not letting it control you. Slow your reps down and create that mind-muscle connection with the different muscles in your back. Squeeze your shoulder blades together like they need to pinch a vibroblade knife between them on each rep. Keep a proud chest, embrace the burn, and use lifting straps if needed. Hunter prioritizes building forearm strength, but he knows his forearm/grip strength will fail before his lats do.

Cable Lat Pulldown - 3 sets 10-12

Cable Wide Row - 3 sets 10-12

Cable Narrow Row - 3 10-12

Cable Face Pull 3 sets - 10-12

Hammer Curls - 3 sets of 8-10

Finisher

Hunter hits his core after each back workout. His upper body pump afterwards is so intense, he struggles to get his armor to fit. He knows he should just order slightly larger armor from the Republic armory, but he silently loves the feeling. We think only Tech has noticed and he rolls his eyes at the situation and doesn’t give it too much thought.

Leg Raises - 3 sets until failure

Ab Roller - 3 sets until failure

The Frat Boy Days - The Bad Batch Workout Split

Echo - Shoulders & Arms

Traditional gym and cable machine work has been much easier since Tech developed a few skonk attachments for Echo. Echo’s physical limitations do not limit him on the field nor in the gym. His strength to pull himself up, run, and carry go beyond expectation, but Echo never looks at it that way. He just does what is necessary to get the job done.

Warm Up

If arriving at the gym with the squad, Echo will often find a treadmill next to Tech or Wrecker to chat about the day. He finds their conversations to be soothing and then he’ll feel more positive when heading into lifts.

10 minutes on the treadmill

Pre-exhaust

Echo’s workout today will focus on shoulders and arms. While shrugs are considered more of a back movement, he finds warming up his upper back and focusing on pulling with his shoulders is his favorite movement to warm up.

Dumbbell Shrugs 2 sets of 10-15 reps

Core

Echo has been into supersets (performing one exercise after another in a circuit) lately because they “echo” opposing muscle groups in the same set. He also finds supersets to be very efficient and loves the pump effect it creates, especially in the arms.

Cable Crunches - 3 sets of 10-12

Machine Shoulder Press - 3 sets of 8-10

Decline Dumbbell Bench - 3 sets of 10-12

Superset: Cable Overhead Tricep Extensions + Cable Bicep Curl - 3 sets of 10-12

Superset: Cable Delt Raise + Tricep Dips - 3 sets of 10-12

Finisher

A master of climbing, even with a skonk, Echo will perform chin ups (and sometimes pull ups) until failure and then hang until his grip strength fails. He’ll repeat this exercise 3 to 5 times, nearly daily. He knows it burns, but he says it’s important to build up this strength so you have it when your life depends on it.

Chin ups until failure; then static hang until failure - 3 sets

I finished painting and building my new desk toothpick holder. I am disappointed that we didn’t get any Black series figures of the Season 3 stealth armor, so I had to make my own… plus, *spoiler* his hand comes off and is magnetized.

Week 6 - Battle Scars

Summer of Bad Batch | Crosshair x Omega x Hunter | Post-Tantiss Rescue on Pabu | SFW/Emotional One Shot | Warnings: PTSD, Nightmares, Flashbacks | 1159 words

Song inspiration - Midnight - Coldplay

Week 6 - Battle Scars

“Omega,” Crosshair sits down on her bed. The moonlight poured through the window onto the bedspread she had kicked off. She lay asleep, but caught in a vivid nightmare.

“No!” She screams in her sleep as her legs kick and her arms flail, “ Hunter!”

Crosshair waits until she stops moving, then brushes her hair off her face and tucks it behind her ear.

“Omega,” he tries again.

She opened her eyes slowly and props herself up on her elbow.

“Crosshair?” She rubs her eyes.

“I’m here,” Crosshair began, but wasn’t sure what else to say.

“I was having a nightmare again, wasn’t I?” Omega sits up fully and buries her head into her hands.

“Mmhmm,” Crosshair nods.

“Sometimes I just feel like the Empire is still after me. Or the Kaminoans.” She looks up from her hands and meets Crosshair’s eyes. His expression bore concern and worry for his sister. He looks off to the side and prepares his words.

“You’re safe now,” he states after much thought.

“But why don’t I feel safe?” Omega asks.

The question catches Crosshair off-guard. He returns to look into Omega’s eyes as she searches for answers in his.

“You usually have better answers than I do,” Crosshair shrugs, but Omega’s look of desperation endures. Crosshair sighs and begins rubbing his right forearm up to where his hand once was.

“Omega,” he exhales, “I also experience… nightmares,” he says like he didn’t want to admit it.

“You?” Omega was floored that one of her brothers also had fears that crept up at night.

“Mmhmm,” Crosshair grunts. “I’ll wake quickly, but the feelings linger. I remember the pain of torture, the feelings of failure, the fear of losing…” He went silent. Omega reaches out to comfort him. Her hand slides down his arm as she offers reassurance.

“I still fear losing you and the others.” Crosshair looks out the window to partially escape the conversation, “I’ll remember the way my heart sank when I missed shooting the tracker onto that ship that took you away from Pabu. Or turning around and watching the Marauder leave me on the platform on Kamino,” Crosshair continued. “But, I’ll wake up and remember you’re here, safe. Our brothers are here too. The nightmares aren’t real anymore… But the feelings are. It’s like what we experienced was too much to feel in the moment, so we keep feeling it until it fades.”

The Pabu wind enters the room and fills the air with a gentle ocean breeze. Crosshair inhales and sighs, relaxing into the moment a little more.

“These dreams serve as a reminder of how far we’ve come. What we’ve experienced is real, but our lives are different now. You’re safe now, Omega.” Crosshair continues and looks back up to Omega, finding her wiping a tear from her eye. Crosshair felt the inclination to pull her closer, but was hesitant.

“You have battle scars too, little soldier,” he chuckles to deflect instead.

Omega wipes another tear, “You’re safe now too, Crosshair,” her voice breaks.

She pulls his arm closer and wraps her arms around it, leaning her head on his shoulder. Crosshair looks surprised, but then pushes himself onto the bed with his back against the wall, accepting her affection. He tucks her hair behind her ear once more with his left hand then rests it on his leg while Omega softly relaxes into his presence.

Crosshair looks out the window to the stars and gazes upward. He thinks about all the nights he had spent alone in a cell without windows in contrast to all the lively nights aboard the Marauder as a young soldier. He recalls Wrecker’s enormous laugh, Tech’s intellectual jabs, Echo’s swearing, and Hunter’s stubborn attitude.

He smiles, remembering all of the good times they had. Like a bolt of lightning, the memory of Order 66 crushed the moment and his remembered joys scream to a wild halt: the flashbacks rush in. He remembers lining his scope up to shoot Hunter; shooting Wrecker; demanding the order to burn his brothers in a ship engine; Mayday’s pulse leaving his body; waking up on Tantiss; losing Omega.

Crosshair shakes his head as he feels his memories split his soul. His heart races. He feels the dissociation grip his consciousness and looks back at Omega for protection; her presence grounds him.

I didn’t lose her, Crosshair thinks to himself as his hand jumps to find Omega’s hand wrapped around his arm. He lets the tension in his shoulders fall and breathes in and out deeply. He sits for a few moments more, letting his breath wash over him and holding Omega’s hand like a lifeline.

Omega’s grip around Crosshair’s arm loosens as she falls into a deeper sleep. She begins to drool on his arm. The unwanted sensation of her spit throws Crosshair back to the present.

He felt a little grossed out, but felt relieved to be pulled back into the moment so violently.

Crosshair’s lips turn upward into a soft smile as he watches Omega sleep so comfortably next to him. He never would have guessed he could comfort anyone, much less a child.

This is who I am, he thinks to himself.

Crosshair quietly stands and gently lays her head down onto her pillow. He tucks the blanket around her and closes the curtain to block the coming sun in hopes she could sleep in after a restless night. He slips out of her room and closes the door softly.

“I thought I felt your eyes,” Crosshair whispers to Hunter once the door is sealed. Hunter leans against the wall just outside of Omega’s room.

“Is she all right?” Hunter inquires.

“She just had a nightmare,” Crosshair relayed.

“I’m surprised you picked up on that before I did,” Hunter sighed, surprised that his instincts hadn’t brought him out of his deep sleep sooner to comfort Omega.

“I was already awake,” Crosshair shrugs.

Hunter raised an eyebrow as he knew Crosshair could fall and stay asleep anywhere, even the battlefield. Hunter stayed silent, but continued to stare at Crosshair in disbelief.

“I had a nightmare too,” Crosshair embarrassedly admits.

Hunter’s face relaxes and he places his hand on Crosshair’s shoulder. Crosshair looks down at Hunter’s hand.

“Well, Omega’s right. You’re safe now too,” Hunter echos.

“Hmm,” Crosshair grunts a little in slight agreement. Hunter tightens his grip a little on Crosshair’s shoulder to gain his attention back. Crosshair looks up into Hunter’s eyes.

“I’m sorry I left you behind,” Hunter admits.

Crosshair’s eyes widen as he never expected to get an apology from his brother. He quickly darts his gaze away to process.

“Well, I did try to kill you,” Crosshair dryly jokes back.

“But you didn’t when you could have,” Hunter surmised.

“Hmm,” Crosshair grunts again. Hunter takes his hand off Crosshair’s shoulder and folds his arms.

“Get some sleep, Hunter,” Crosshair begins to walk to his room, but turns halfway around in the hallway, “But, keep one eye open,” Crosshair chuckles.

Week 2 - Comfort Zone

Summer of Bad Batch | Crosshair x Phee x Hunter x Omega | Post-Tantiss Rescue on Pabu | One Shot | 262 words

Week 2 - Comfort Zone

“I didn’t forget about you,” Phee smirked and slid a small package across the table to Crosshair. His right mechanical hand lifted a finger to stop it from falling into his lap.

“What’s this?” Crosshair slithered.

“Open it!” Phee instructed.

Crosshair sighed, picking up the small box with his mechanical hand.

“Knife?” He motioned towards Hunter without taking his eyes off the mysterious package. Hunter tossed him the knife and Crosshair caught it by the handle using his peripheral vision. He gently sliced through the brown paper to find a leather-bound box. Crosshair studied the box, then found it to slide open like a matchbox, exposing a few hundred dark and smooth toothpicks. Crosshair’s expression shifted from guarded and confused to grateful.

“How did you know?” Crosshair asked Phee as he put one of the luxury toothpicks between his lips.

“Guess,” Phee winked.

“Tech?” Crosshair shifted the toothpick from one side of his mouth to the other.

Phee returned a soft nod to confirm.

“What’s special about them?” Omega asked the room.

“These are from the trees in Kashyyyk. The wookies do not cut down trees, but when the trees have died from natural causes, they use the wood for creating items and luxuries. Tech had mentioned that these were Crosshair’s favorite, but it’s well-known to be a rare commodity,” Phee explained.

Crosshair studied the package again and inspected a few toothpicks, looking at the fine grain and dark brown coloring of the wood.

“I guess you are a liberator of… wonders,” he remarked. “Thank you,” Crosshair nodded towards Phee in gratitude.

The Craziest Thing About CX2 Was How Invested I Became Thinking That He Was Somebody. I Thought He Was

The craziest thing about CX2 was how invested I became thinking that he was somebody. I thought he was Tech. I believed so hard that he would be significant because every clone is significant. They all have nicknames, unique modifications, language habits, etc.

But no clone is significant to the Empire.

CX2 had lots of quality screen time and was somehow likable. When he was killed in the finale like nobody, I was so let down! But, it made me realize how brilliant the writing was… Not only was I in denial about Tech and was actively carried through the stages of grieving, but I realized CX2 was the ultimate foil to Crosshair.

I think CX2 represents who Crosshair would have become if he stayed in the Empire, which was a nobody. He would have died insignificantly and nobody in the Empire would have mourned him, just as nobody mourned CX2.

Defective by nature, Crosshair was too unique to be a “nobody.”
