Submas AU Drabble - Coincidence

The art before Emmet is impressive. Painted on clay slabs that stretch from the museum’s floor to ceiling. The colors have faded with age, but are still brilliant - electric blue highlights running across figures in white and black. Twins, he supposed, like the legendary dragons that curled fiercely around them. 

If he were not Emmet, he is sure he would stop and stare a while. It was very striking, he had to admit. But he is Emmet, so instead he does not bother to read the museum label and wanders away.

He is verrrry bored. But Ingo is not, and the air conditioning feels wonderful, so he will not complain. 

A broken charm sits behind glass, shining with purple gemstones.  Emmet doesn’t know what it is supposed to resemble. Maybe it wasn’t meant to resemble anything. Maybe this kingdom had lots of silly ideas, beginning with building their capital in the heart of a desert. That should have been thought through.

This was their first day off in years and they wasted most of it trekking through dunes! In the heat! It was very very hot! Of all the places Ingo could have wanted to go, of course he chose the hardest station to arrive at. It had given Archeops the extra taste of battle he had been wanting though, and Emmet too. 

No, he supposed it wasn’t all bad after all. He got to enjoy the journey, now it was time for the destination. 

“EMMET!”

Immediately, said subway boss perks up and turns towards his brother’s booming voice. He enjoys the way his walk parts the crowd as he arrives at Ingo’s station. Emmet leans just far enough into his personal space to be noticeable. Ingo only glares. With such a subtle reaction, he must be distracted. 

There is a portrait in front of them. There is a sizable group of people in blacks and whites. A few are speckled with red. Those details quickly fade into the background as his eyes catch on one in particular.

This one’s pale skin is sunburnt. His smile is half hidden by the collar of his coat. Even then, Emmet can see that it’s strained. His coat is striped, red and white. His sideburns are just like theirs. His everything is very much like them. Very, very, very much like them.

They observe in silence as the minutes pass. “Well,” Ingo eventually starts, “I suppose Elesa is right to call our coats old-fashioned.” 

A chuckle escapes Emmet before he can stop it. Ingo’s eyes crinkle in that smiling way of his and whatever moment stretched on between them and the painting is broken. 

“Nonsense, now we can say they’re traditional! She can’t argue against a track that stands the test of time!” Ingo gives him a look. “Alright, maybe she can.”

They chuckle, chatter on, and continue to their next station. Before they depart, Emmet pauses. He steals a glance at the portrait’s label.

Relic Castle, year unknown. Several religious acolytes are pictured alongside regents Rigus and Laurel during preparations for annual Volcarona-honoring festivities. The reason for a notoriously closed society to allow an apparent outsider to participate in religious preparations remains unknown.

By the time the subway masters leave the museum, the portrait is long forgotten.

Trying to write again

So...hi! This is the first time that I blog something about myself rather than skam, harry potter, naruto, anything remotely yaoi or what's going on in the world... Though that's not going to be that true in a moment... You see, I'm a writer too, but it's been a hell of a damn long writer's block for me, and I want to try again...

Soooo.... Right now, my obsession is skam, so I will be posting a few, short, one shots following the prompts that I will publish in the next post. I was hopping to get constructive criticism and to make my imagination work again.

So if you'd like to read them and tell me what you think, you're more than welcome!

Dilemma (please help XD)

Hellooooooooooooo! So! I have a question for literally anyone, and I hope that my question makes sense XD.

For those who know me, or do not, I am a writer. Unfortunately I can’t say that I do this professionally, yet. Regardless of that, I recently had a very very good idea for a trilogy series, and I am gonna go and run with it. As I progress I might start leaking more information, but that’s the jist of the situation.

Now comes the “source”(? loose term) Of my dilemma.

I am white, passing at least (my family is Guatemalan, but my bio dad is white so I pass as such) and before anyone jumps to anything, I’ve done research and such. Reason why I’ve done research is I want to be very inclusive in my books, I believe everyone deserves to look in a book at one point in their lives and be like “hey! There’s someone like me.”. Now, I might not get every form of representation in this series (oh, you’d better believe I have other plots to include more), cause that’s a little impossible sometimes when you don’t want to have too many main characters. But, here comes my dilemma.

I don’t want race, sexuality, religion, ability, gender, or anything like that to define my characters. There are some characters that I will have little displays of culture and “educated facts” with, but I won’t for everyone. And that’s because I feel as though, people can just....exist. It doesn’t need to be dove into, people can just exist. Someone once asked the author Marie Lu why she didn’t go into detail or anything about her character Day (Daniel) Wing from her series Legend being a poc, he’s part Mongolian. She said that, Day didn’t think it was worth mentioning, he didn’t really care about it. He just, existed as such.

And though I know there are people that take their culture and heritage very seriously (hence why some characters may display as such), other characters are simply just going to...exist. And I think that’s fine, that’s not my dilemma. 

My dilemma is, in a series with quite a bit of diversity (planned), I want to make a “rift” between characters (can you tell I’m trying so hard not to give away my plot? XD). There will be a split. And what I am concerned about, is people getting the wrong idea and thinking I’m villainizing any sort of diversity that happens to fall in on my “villain” side. I am most certainly not doing that, I would never. For those who know me irl, or even just online, they can tell you that I care deeply about making people happy, and not upsetting or insulting anyone. And don’t worry, I do have a plan here for the plot and all that, I just don’t want to come across as a white author slamming anyone because I made a certain person a “villain”. I truly do not want this to be the case. I just want my characters to simply exist, though diversity is included, it’s not their...entirety, if that makes sense. My question is, how on Earth would I go about this, without making anyone think I’m “villainizing” a certain group or person? Cause I’m not, I just want to let people know, if that’s even possible. 

I genuinely want to do good with this trilogy. I have a good idea, and I just want to tell stories, that’s all I’ve ever wanted to do, tell my stories, make people happy. If anyone has any advice on my dilemma, please let me know. I really want this to be good, I do. For all of you who actually read all that, thank you so much for your time. Going off-topic there but..

You see, I’m a French student who is trying to get a degree in English Language and History. I’m doing fine, except for translation.  So I’m gonna take the opportunity to translate my VK fanfiction while I’m on vacation.  And I’d like to ask you to read it and if you want to, to leave a comment. Please try to point out the good and bad points in my text if you do, it will only help me to understand how English grammar and syntax work! But then, if you just want to comment on the story in itself, that’s good too. i realized i have one important addition and it’s that they all have one corset that is orange-themed. sometimes they accidentally wear matching corsets and fabian is very dramatic about it (he loves it though). 

The Bad Boys™ in Corsets

Fabian: Fabian loves it. He loves the Drama™ . He wears those fancy pirate shirts and ripped skinny jeans and will strut around Aguefort like a goddamn peacock. He owns some that cost more than Riz’s monthly rent. He dances now, baby! Toxic masculinity is dead. He is going to wear a corset and he’s going to make sure you know how sexy he is wearing it. Cathilda and Adaine are probably the only people he trusts to lace him up (he let Gorgug do it once and it was too loose; Fig tried and nearly broke one of his ribs; Riz and Kristen are uncharted territory and he’s a little afraid to let them try). Gorgug: The first time he wears it is because Fig peer pressures him into wearing one for a magazine shoot. He feels really awkward in it but Zelda jumps him as soon as the photos are released. This may also have been due in part to a video Fig took of Gorgug raging so hard he literally popped the lacing and seams of the corset. He is so shy so he’s constantly hunched over so he wears one for the back support lol. He’ll wear one underneath a giant hoodie when the Bad Kids are having a day where they’re just being teenagers. Fig and Garthy teamed up to make him an Orcish inspired one; Fig also teamed up with the Thistlesprings to make a Gnomish inspired one for him. At her girlfriend’s insistence Ayda is researching a rage-proof corset fitting for the Greatest Wizard of Their Age. Most of his are plain or floral patterned, though. 

Riz: He would either love it or hate it. The more masculine vest-type corsets fit very well with his detective/fancy-boy aesthetic he has going on, but as a rogue he needs to be able to move his body in ways that might dislocate other people’s bones. When he wears it he is All Business. You know how some people put on an outfit and embody it’s personality? That’s Riz with a corset. He becomes absolutely insufferable. He is a man on a mission and will interrogate anyone and everyone who has any information about his current case. He is also now powerful and professional enough to shoot off your fingers one-by-one if you refuse him (not that he needed the additional support to do that). Riz also has no care for social expectations so the minute his corset starts to bother him he will start taking it off and throw it at the nearest Bad Kid to hold (it’s usually Kristen and it usually hits her in the face)

While the hearts of the public are becoming increasingly vocally open to the prospect of boy maids, I still long await the day when society is ready to finally broach the subject of girl butlers–not merely as an occasional curio to be brought out from some dusty cabinet once in a blue moon, but an established and significant presence in the imagination and imagery of idealized service professionals.

I’ve been debating on posting some of my older edits recently since I can’t edit at the moment and wanted some opinions on if I should post them.
