Therian Mask - Tumblr Posts
This is what I have finished so far! All I need to do is wait for the clay to dry, then paint and glue and it will be done!!!

Materials used: cat mask, foam, brown felt, paint, clay, cardboard

hi do u have any sorta tutorial/any tutorial you’d recommend for making masks?
We really wanna make some but can’t figure out how everyone is doing it ;-;
I actually do because I just made a new one and made a video for it! (I’ll try to type the steps I do as well to help)
First thing I do is cut out the place I’m putting the snout and make the eyes a bit bigger
Then I personally use foam but you can use cardboard or thinner foam etc… and carve it to the shape I want for the mussel and glue it onto the face
I personally add bigger ears with cardboard and foam but you don’t need too <3
After that I get felt and try to cut it to size but still leave extra room!! Then you can either do it in parts (which honestly is easier) I did mussel then face for my first mask, or you can just try to glue the whole piece! Glue the center and go out from there smoothing as you go.
Then it’s really up to you! You can paint it or just leave it as is.
Then I glue in the straps and put a little peice of felt over it for more support <3

How did you make your mask look so smooth? I did the usual techniques but nothing works for me . Any tips?
oh my gosh sorry for not answering this sooner i just saw it!! i used felt and start gluing from the middle and then in small sections moving outwards. take your time and hold down the areas and smooth them out as best as you can while doing so. heres a quick diagram that i just made on ms paint this a mouse! (the scribble is where you start and you just go outwards from there!!)
Thought I’d share here that I updated my mask a little bit! I added eyes and gave it better elastic because the stuff I had sucked-
Updated my mask yet again and made it cooler hehe
Made a new mask, he’s a Chinese crested dog!! Too hungry to take photos rn so here’s a video I made earlier to show it off :P

Fixed up a crow mask (I know it's a raven beak, they didn't have a crow beak)
Might change up the design later when I get blue paint for the eyes, but for now, purple glitter eyes

alright, i think i may actually make a tutorial for making your own mask without any sort of pre-bought base for those who are more inclined to do so rather than buying those cat or fox mask bases and modifying them!
