Damn so the Odyssey is just one big trolley problem huh
There’s something terribly poetic in the inevitability of events in EPIC. The choices Odysseus is given lead to no win situations. They aren’t really choices at all.
Kill a foe’s child or witness the death of your own. Sacrifice six men or sacrifice them all. Allow your crew to starve or watch as they slaughter sacred cattle.
Sacrifice your friends, your brothers, or give up your last chance at reaching home.
In the end, the result is always the same. He destroys himself
"But we'll die"
My brother in tragedy... Y'all are the ones who chose to kill the cow

Uh- eh- um- cau- … Damn. This explanation is like- “Let’s give the sunshine character our trauma and see how he reacts.”

THEY ARE BROTHERS INLAW BTW-
“Captain?….But we’ll die.”
Eurylochus sounded so small. Like a little boy talking to someone who’s supposed to be his friend and not understanding what’s happening because it doesn’t make sense.
Nobody touch me.
If I had a nickel for every time Odysseus's crew experienced a mass casualty event due to killing an animal friend of a being with a powerful Godly father, and that God showing up to teach Odysseus a lesson of some kind before decimating his crew, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but holy shit is it unfortunate for the crew that it happened twice
Okay but the contrast to this moment and Horse and the Infant!!
Because Odysseus begs both times, “Please don’t make me do this.”
But the first time Zeus is telling him to kill one baby to save everyone else (most importantly his wife) and he isn’t really being given a choice “This is the will of the Gods”
Whereas this time it really is a choice. A horrible choice, yes, but Odysseus is not being made to kill his crew, he is deciding between their lives and seeing his wife again. In Horse and The Infant he does something terrible to save more lives. In Thunder Bringer he does something terrible that sacrifices many lives solely to save his own. He really has become a monster.
And yet, right from the beginning Ody tells us that he would trade the world to see his son and wife. He would have always made this choice. It’s just that now he can throw the guilt away.
He has become a monster and in the same breath he is exactly the same.
“Captain?….But we’ll die.”

I NEED to talk about ody and eury's conversation near the end of thunder bringer, like. dude they sound like Scared Children. those aren't men in war dude those are scared fucking kids. you can't tell me they didn't grow up together or Something.
"captain?," ",,i have to see her," ",but we'll die," ",,i know,"
YOU CANT TELL ME THEY DIDN'T SOUND LIKE SCARED KIDS :( THEY'RE SCARED AND THEY KNOW ONE OF THEM HAS TO LOSE THE OTHER QND THEY DONT WANT TO LOSE ANYONR ELSE.
AND THEY DIDN'T EVEN HUG OR ANYTHING??? THINK OF HOW MUCH SADDER ITD BE IF HE WENT ",,i know," AND JUST PULLED HIM INTO A HUG AND STARTED CRYING IM GONNA.
RIP to Eurylochus but I am different and I would have taken that secret to my grave.
Eurolychus: HOW COULD YOU SACRIFICE SIX OF OUR MEN? OUR FRIENDS
Odysseus:
Odysseus: BITCH YOU WERE READY TO LEAVE OUR ENTIRE CREW AT CIRCE’S PALACE—
Absolute chills when Odysseus told Eurylochus to light six torches knowing Scylla had six heads
I am convinced that Ody was hallucinating Penelope in Thunder Bringer. his wife was not there. no one was trying to trick him. she did not reach out from across the sea. he just needed to hear her say that she'd still love him after he chose. he needed her permission.
'you gave up the lives of six of our friends' - the same man who tried to leave after said friends got turned into pigs by the pretty witch lady
"The things I do for you, Penelope."
I recognize that in context this is Odysseus baiting the siren, but honestly, that could be the title of the whole musical right there.
Odysseus that wasn’t very greet the world with open arms of you
