The Circe Saga - Tumblr Posts

Okay, I’ve been meaning to make a post about this for a while, but today I finally sat down to do it. Around the release of the ocean saga (I think), I made a post about how Odysseus was always made out to be larger than life, but in the end he was “just a man”, and with the phrase being repeated so much throughout EPIC, it really reinforces that.

But re-listening to the circe saga, I realised that, similar to one of those birds that puff itself up to seem bigger when feeling threatened, Odysseus does that too. Not necessarily physically, but he uses his words to make himself appear more threatening.

In ‘Remember Them’, when Odysseus is telling the cyclops who the person who blinded him was, he lists out a bunch of titles.

“I’m the reigning king of Ithaca, I am neither man nor mythical, I am your darkest moment, I am in infamous...”

Notice how much more scary he would seem to Polyphemus when he appears to be so impressive? This was his goal- to make Polyphemus want to cower in fear. And he did this why? Because in a similar but opposite way that  he cowered to Circe to make her feel pity on him and his crew to let them go, it was convenient for him to seem larger than life, and it built him up so that it would be impossible for the cyclops to not remember him.

Another example of this is when he goes to confront Circe in ‘Done For’, he tells her that “I must be a God like you”. Obviously, this isn’t true and Circe knows this, but he does it in a (poor) attempt to trick her and make her give in before he even has to lift a hand to do anything.

So yeah, just something I noticed. If you have any other thoughts on this feel free to share them with me. (:

THIS!! THIS HAS PUT TAOW IN THE TOP OF THE SAGA FOR ME!!! LOOK AT THE LYRICS!!! THEY JUST SHATTER MY HEART AND FILL IT WITH HOPE SOON AFTER!!!! AHHHH

#forgot to put the tags 🤦

I'm Shakign

I'm shakign

“SHE'S MY EVERYTHING”?!!!!

Jay. Jay I'm shaking you violently. This literally brought me to tears the first time I listened

I thought he was going to actually go with the fact that Ody actually would end up sleeping with Circe but oh MY GOD

I'm a sucker for these kinds of OTPs. I absolutely love how loyal Odysseus is. It makes me cry. /pos

“She's all my power”

Holy FUCK LIKE. THE WAY HE PLEADS TO CIRCE FOR HER NOT TO CONTINUE BECAUSE HE'S TRYING DESPERATELY NOT TO UPSET HER OR STRAY FROM HIS BELIEFS AND PRIORITIES. HE DOESN'T WANT HIS MEN TO SUFFER, AND HE DOESN'T WANT TO SLEEP WITH CIRCE. HE LITERALLY THREW HIS LAST CHANCE OUT THE WINDOW WITH NO PLAN WHATSOEVER AND IT FUCKING WORKED. HE IS SO LOYAL I LOVE HIM

AURHVHDJ HE MAKES ME UNWELL /VPOS

AUSHRHSNN, FIRST IT WASN'T EVERYONE IT WAS A SCOUT GROUP. SECOND, EUROLYCHUS SAW NO WAY TO SAVE THEM. HE DIDNT BELIEVE THAT THERE WAS ANY WAY TO SAVE THEM. HE DIDN'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT SCYLLA. WHAT HE SAW WAS ODYSSEUS SITTING DOWN AND NOT EVEN TRYING TO PROTECT HIS CREW. WE ARE LOOKING IN FROM A THIRD PERSON POV. PUT UR MIND INTO WHAT EUROLYCHUS IS SEEING AND THINKING.

Eurolychus: HOW COULD YOU SACRIFICE SIX OF OUR MEN? OUR FRIENDS

Odysseus:

Odysseus: BITCH YOU WERE READY TO LEAVE OUR ENTIRE CREW AT CIRCE’S PALACE—

Someone should write something where it's the Greek heroes from the Iliad watching odysseus during the odyssey from the afterlife. like achilles and company just being like yea fuck that guy up man. u got that. or he's crying over missing penelope and telemachus and they just feel bad for him or smth.

could also be them all listening/watching the epic songs/animatics 🦭

(even tho a lot of them don't die it's a fun idea in theory)

Since We're All Experiencing The "epic The Musical"brainrot Very Strongly Today Here's My Favorite Saga

My favorite song:

Since We're All Experiencing The "epic The Musical"brainrot Very Strongly Today Here's My Favorite Saga

( no longer you is also up there I love it so much ajsjksns )

Top 5 parts that constantly spin in my head and get fainter or stronger but never really leave me alone ( I'm writing just 5 of them otherwise I'd be here all day rewriting the entire musical honestly ) :

- SIX HUNDRED MEN SIX HUNDRED MEN six hundred man under my command , with only one goal in mind , make it back alive to our homeland

- if you make one wrong move then you're done for , anything I don't approve and you're done for I could put a spell on you and you're done for boy you better run or soon you will be done foooor

- when , does a ripple become a tidal wave ? When does the reason become the BLAME? WHEN DOES A MAN BECOME A MONSTEEER

- a Greek who reeks of false righteousness THAT'S WHAT I HATE , cause you fight to save lives but won't kill and DON'T GET THE JOB DONE

- time for me to be the father I never was ~just keep your eyes open~ SO MUCH HAS CHANGED BUT I'M THE SAME YES I'M THE SAAAME

Oh ,what did you say? No one asked? Too bad, my blog my ruleeees

( also this has the potential to be a tag game in my opinion so if anyone wants to join jump in!

@qualitydonutnightmare if you want to do it I'll be very happy but no pressure obv also I feel like I'm bothering you a lot today sorryy )

- In Ruthlessness I escaped and wouldn't you like I'm vibing, yeah I have suffered enough for this... S××× not another foe... Odysseus after twelve long years.

The two are absolute bangers in their own, Hermes energy is unmatched also the Moly, the harmonies uff, P E R F E C T I O N .

Eventhough Poseidon entrance is so old Disney villain, the sass, emotion is life.

Hermes: are ya winning grandson?

Odysseus: she's my everything my Penelopeeeeeee!!!

Circe: I pity him

Hermes: You know he killed so many Troyans

Circe points at *him*: Yeah....Ha.....tell me that again!

Hermes: Ody I tell you to sleep with her

Ody and Circe: WHAT????!!!

Circe: Uhm... (looking more closely) for a greasy Nobody, you do have good bone structure

Nymphs: and a symetrical face, if we took a cleaver down the middle of your face, We'll have same portions!.

Circe: and you know, you know, you know this could be beautiful... (getting closer to Ody)

Hermes: Shut Up Heather Circe (pulls away traumatized Ody)

Circe: fine...

*The crew returns to normal*

Odysseus fully awake: We're up, and off and away we go!. Bye! Thanks for the info!

Nymphs: is that man fine, mistress?

Circe: I don't know. He said he ate some molly and now he has been sitting there without blinking for three hours.

Odysseus: begonewiiiitchh

Nymphs: will you turn him?

Circe: I've never eaten a pig intoxicated like this, it might be dangerous. Call Hermes to take him away.

Nymphs: where... where do we find him?

Circe: you're right, it's useless. I'll turn his crew back into men so they'll take him.

I also prefer The Homer versión, it's way layered and plays well with the Xenia and also the way inmortals see mortals, also shows their power dynamics, even though at the end Circe really enjoys Odysseus, he is clearly yearning to return home, and though Circe s.aed him ar least she showed more compassion than the unnamble.

Epic the Musical:

Circe: Oh my! He cannot be transformed by my powers! What do I do?! What do I do?! Think think I need to protect my nymphs! Oh I know! He's a man after all! I'll seduce the hell out of him to get my power over him back! He clearly can defeat my entourage of wolves and lions all by himself! I mean he's damn immune to my magic! I am sure he can do anything with his sword!

Circe: *aggressive flirting*

Odysseus: Oh my gods oh my gods she is hot...what the hell?! Oh I am just a man! Forgive me... No! Wait! J can't! I love My wife way too much! Please let us go home! I miss my wife!

Circe: Awww that is so sweet! Of course darling. I was always a sucker for a good soap opera. Of course I'll help you free of charge and here's some useful tips for your trip! Drive home safely!

The Odyssey:

Circe: Oh my! This man actually had the AUDACITY to come in my home and threaten me! And he took all precautions (a God helped him no doubt). Finally a man I can consider worthy of standing by my side and not bad looking either!

Circe: Come on, darling. Remove your clothes and let's get down on it! Let's see what you've got!

Odysseus: (oh my! Forgive me Penelope that is the only way to save my men! Hermes told me not to refuse her a thing! She is a freaking goddess that commands all these wild beasts! Power over me or not she's a force to be reconed with!) F-Fine but I cannot do what you ask before I ensure my men are safe. Please release them first and then I will (gods gotta buy myself time! Ain't prepared!)

Circe: *does that*

Odysseus: *sighs* I guess we're doing this...

*A year later*

Odysseus: Okay men you had your fun but I can't keep entertaining her forever! We must go home!

Odysseus: Please Circe let me and my people go! We have to go back

Circe: Oh but can't you stay a bit more?

Odysseus: No...I miss my wife and son

Circe: Fine, my dear, if that's what you want... Your happiness is more important than my satisfaction and I love you so I shall let you go. You paid your price fully. Here are some useful tips for you, some provisions and good luck...

Do you know what breaks my heart?

Knowing that Odysseus probably still feels so guilty he can barely breathe, he's just suppressing it and filling the void with Penelope.

That's why she's finally showing up more plainly in this second part because Odysseus needs to believe that something will be worth all the guilt and all the suffering and that something is Penelope.

That's why she sings that she "will take the suffering" from him, because that's his hope, that's what he needs to believe because otherwise, it was all in vain.

And you know what's even worse?

Even if he does reach Ithaca, and even if he does have his "happy ending" (which I have no idea if it'll happen because I never read The Odyssey but I know enough about Greek Mythology and tragedies that I don't think so), it'll not be happy.

It'll be so bittersweet it makes my heart ache in ways I can't even bear.

I imagine Odysseus will never be able to swim with Telemachus and Penelope again, even if it's just a river, because he'd not know to differentiate between siren Penelope and real Penelope then.

I imagine he will never be able to look at his sister the same knowing that he caused her husband's death and so will she.

I imagine he will have to face his other men, who will know (or so Odysseus will think) that he sacrificed several of them to be there again.

I imagine he will have to discover all over again how to be a father to teenager Telemachus who doesn't even remember what is like to have a father, let alone see Odysseus as one.

I imagine if he will ever sleep in peace again, fearing that the gods will find him there once and for all.

I'm not crying, you are!

it’s so jarring in the song puppeteer when we hear eurylochus without his signifying backup of the crew members; the eeriness we get with it and the fact that it’s the first sign of trouble: as well as the first time we really see eurylochus at a loss
