Listen I’ve read so many Timestuck fics in the past couple weeks and while a lot of them are similar I have yet to see one with this specific idea so just. Imagine.

Mabel and Dipper accidentally wind up in the past with one of the time tapes—but it splits into two parts, and they’re sent to opposite sides of the country. Mabel ends up in the middle of Gravity Falls, and Dipper somewhere east like. Tennessee or something LOL but the point is, Dipper manages to bump into Stan, and Mabel into Ford, and it’s their knowledge about their Grunkles and how stubborn they are that they start helping them work through their issues. Mabel teams up with Fiddleford to bring Ford out of his shell (while Mabel subtly starts changing Ford’s tainted opinions of Stan while also keeping an eye out for Bill), and Dipper eases Stan of his guilt, and gives him a lot of encouragement and self-care tips (he’s not as good at it as Mabel, but he’s willing to try for Stan’s sake). Stan and Dipper travel across the country to see Ford (and get into tons of fun trouble), the younger twins struggle to hide the secret of their coming from the future, and all the while the older Pines start getting really really attached to them. By the time Stan and Dipper finally make it to Gravity Falls, Mabel has worked her magic and softened Ford up a lot—of course he’s still not over it completely but after seeing the state Stan is in he gets worried, and it really hits home hard for both of them when Dipper and Mabel have a very tearful reunion, reminding them both of how close they were as kids. After that it’s a lot of slow awkward bonding between Stan and Ford as they try to close the distance between them, there are lots of fun times with the whole family and with them individually (and yes, Fidds is part of this whole shebang too). Dipper and Mabel start hinting to Stan about Bill, who rightfully gets suspicious and all “Nobody messes with my brother except for me” so they start working to come up with a plan to stop Bill before things go crazy haywire.

Usually in these sorts of deals the younger twins are together, or Dipper gets paired with Ford and Mabel with Stan, so I thought HEY, I’m always craving more moments with the opposite dynamics—and I feel that Mabel especially would be able to make Ford way less hostile when Stan shows up (especially since Mabel loves Stan SO much, and makes Ford realize how much he misses his twin and how much he misses BEING a twin. MABEL POWER!!)

After all the crazy stuff goes down the twins probably end up going back to their own timeline—having created an alternate one thanks to their interference, Stan stays in Gravity Falls with Ford and Fiddleford, the portal disaster is averted, Ford allows Stan to take over half the house to become part of the Mystery Shack, and the twins can come back to see them whenever they want because World Saving Privileges, baby! Also the fact that they got rid of Bill in two different timelines so that’s extra brownie points. (And seeing endings where young Stan and Ford get so attached to the twins and love them so much and can’t ever see those versions of them again makes me SAD so this is my compromise. Dipper and Mabel get to have their older AND younger Grunkles!)

I feel that when the time comes for them to leave, Stan and Ford really don’t want them to go, but then their older selves show up and are in TEARS because they were so worried about Mabel and Dipper—and the younger Stans realize these older versions of them need the twins more than they do, because original Stan and Ford went through so much more hardship and heartbreak and they need their family whole. BUT IT’S STILL SO BITTERSWEET ANYWAY...and original Stan and Ford are probably super grateful to see a timeline where things went right between them for the most part, and tell their younger selves to cherish each other and their family as a whole, and just. Yeah :’)

You know that feeling when you’re just going about your life and you’re Not Okay but you’re Holding It Together, but then you get to the convenience store and they’re out of non-dairy creamer, and you’re lactose intolerant, so you can’t get coffee, and suddenly you’re crying about this minor inconvenience when in reality you’re not actually crying over the coffee at all, you’re crying because your dad kicked you out and your twin brother doesn’t love you anymore and suddenly there’s a little girl who needs help with her broken time machine and things are Not Okay?

Yeah, everyone’s been there, right?

While fighting over a time machine so one twin can win a pig or the other can win the heart of a girl, Mabel is left stranded in a snowy forest with no time machine and no brother. Oops.

Snow freckled the chilly January day lightly, like powdered sugar over a freshly baked pastry, sticking to each layer effortlessly and creating a blanket that completely covered the woods and the cabin nested between the trees. The atmosphere was still and stiff, like frozen icicles that were not going to start dripping any time soon. The air was bitter and unwelcoming, which was probably why no living thing was outside today. Today was the perfect day to burrow and sleep and keep warm with your own body heat.

A crack through space-time cut through the air. The crushing of tiny ice particles followed as two twelve-year-olds ran, one chasing the other, as the time-tape was heating up and buzzing. “This thing is getting hotter! Hot! Hot, hot, hot!” Mabel attempted to save her palms from burns by bouncing the tiny machine between her hands.

“What are you doing?!” Dipper demanded as Mabel bounced the tape-measure too hard and her twin reached a hand to catch it. He managed to catch it perfectly, like an athlete catching a baseball, and then was gone in a flash of baby-blue lightning.

Fun fact in my fic drifter days Stan calls himself a freak and post portal Ford (with an alias) immediately tells him not to say that and for a second they just kind of stare at each other awkwardly before drifter days Stan laughs and brushes it off and Old Ford is conflicted on whether to pursue it and risk outing his secret or just let Stan keep saying crappy things about himself.

And I haven’t decided how he’s going to react yet either, so we’ll find out at about the same time.

Stan: Okay since you two are growing kids, I get that you'll want to start cursing (I know I did at that age, and doesn't help that Ford keeps swearing near ya-), so as a compromise you both get ONE swear word, use it wisely.

Mabel: Oh you have no idea what you just unleashed.

Stan: What????

Dipper: Now you have no idea when we're going to swear because we're going to wait for the perfect opportunity to use them.

Stan: Oh no-

[On a later date]

Dipper, after a run in with Bill: If I ever get my hands on that son of a bitch I'm going to make that bastard wish he never met this family!

Stan: HEY I SAID ONE SWEAR-

Writing essays all day has absolutely killed my ability to come up with creative drawing ideas, so I'm just gonna steal scenes from fanfics I've recently read. Cool?

A quickish drawing based on chapter 5 of @novelistservant's fanfic The Power of Mabel, which I loved but also how dare you with that chapter 6?

Time stuck au. Descent.

Mabel and Dipper are with their opposite counterparts. Usually the story goes that whoever gets stuck with Ford has some classic adventures with him, but I like pain and decided Mabel would get stuck with Ford in the middle of his sleep deprived mental health decline. This is when he’s contemplating on how to get rid of his journals and Mabel mentions Stanley. That’s when he calls Stan and asks for help, he also finds out that Dipper is with him.

I feel like the kids have only a slight idea on just how bad it got for Ford, especially Mabel. Mabel knows Stanley much more than she knows Stanford. She’s aware of what crime is from movies and she doesn’t have to be exposed to it to know that it’s not pretty. But Stanford? The true extent of his spiral into madness? Grunkle Ford is so collected and logical.... The Journal’s paint a gruesome picture sure...but that’s all it is. A blurry picture that she can’t really see. The reality of Stanford being insanely sleep deprived and completely paranoid and irrational is very hard to grasp.

Mabel knows it’s probably worse than what little she can imagine, but seeing it in real time and in person is more heartbreaking and scary than she ever expected. Stanford does his best to remain his intellectual self and take care of her, he wishes he could send her home immediately, but Dipper is the one with the time tape...so all they can do is wait for Dipper and Stanley to arrive. Stanford tries not to lose grip of his sanity, but it’s difficult. How does he know Mabel isn’t a hallucination? A manifestation of his innocence and trust and optimism? What if she’s possessed by Bill and is just waiting for him to have his back turned? Why else would she beg for him to rest and sleep? Not to mention, she happens to be quite...chaotic at times. She says she’ll watch over him and try to protect him from Bill, but having her watch him sleep is the last thing he wants. He doesn’t want to sleep. She is sympathetic when he occasionally loses his composure and forgiving when he apologizes later, he kicks himself in private for being so unfit to care for her. Mabel doesn’t have to wonder why he goes out of his way to isolate himself from her, but in turn she goes out of her way to give him company because she doesn’t want to leave him alone.

Meanwhile, Stanley’s life as a hardened criminal is something Dipper has always gone out of his way to avoid thinking about....but now he has no choice in being exposed to it.

By this point, Mabel has already explained the situation to Ford. (Ill probably make a post about that later) They're trying to figure out a way to fix it, and it's been about a day or two. And then things go wrong
