Elrondriel - First Elf to Elf intimacy

While I ruminate on a fanfic I’m currently outlining, I thought I could get out my thoughts through this way because its going to be long possible two year wait before we are back into the world of TRoP. However, I’d like to preface that I pinged the chemistry between Elrond and Galadriel from their first ever meet in Season 1 and had I not been swept by Haladriel, I probably would’ve been shipping them fulltime then. The chemistry was taut in Season 1 and its even more apparent and greatly so in Season 2 with the culmination of a kiss that I don’t think anyone would’ve guessed or believed despite the leaks (I certainly didn’t).

I don’t care to interpret this as platonic, I’m not sorry. You can throw as many of the interviews as you can but actors can and have lied before, I’m well experienced with this. In actual text in the show, this scene is presented with the full fanfare of longing and romance down to the music cues. Yes, it had a functional reason of providing cover, but Elrond is smart. He could’ve done a number of things before a kiss on the lips no less. A kiss on the forehead, the cheek, corner of the mouth even. Had the chemistry not been there, this onscreen kiss would’ve been fallen flat and not much anger towards it would be this high but people can recognise the level of chemistry between. The level of intimacy between Galadriel and Elrond is only second to the actual onscreen romantic couples we’ve seen in the show and movies.

An analysis:

I think people don’t realise that the kiss between Galadriel and Elrond is the first elf to elf romantic intimacy we’ve seen onscreen. Between the PJ movies and TRoP, we’ve seen Dwarf/Elf and Human/Elf romances which have been depicted as the peak of star crossed lovers separated by immortality and time — of which Elrond’s heritage is a product of that and his descendants continue to be in the far future.

The arguments (of cope) I've been seeing proclaiming that's how elves platonically say goodbye to their friends is very paper thin against all depiction of Elvish intimacy where its been clear that kisses are romantic, an expression of agape.

We've seen it with Aragorn and Arwen:

Arondir and Bronwyn:

Kili and Tauriel:

The first time we could've gotten Elf to Elf intimacy was in the Hobbit films with Legolas and Tauriel but we see an explicit rejection from Tauriel to Legolas for Kili and despite how close they were (though separated by rank), we could've seen the proposed platonic goodbye kiss but we didn't and we know why.

Okay, maybe the kiss is an outlier but physical closeness is surely the norm, right?

Not really, even under the guise of close friendship, Elrond and Galadriel remain outliers far closer and leaning to romantic. No other elves than them two interact the same way they do.

You'll see a familar scene of this

Their physical closeness (there's never a space for Jesus!), exceeds far beyond of other elves and their friendships, even for Elrond and Durin and its been consistent

Even when they're angry at each other, it doesn't stop or impede their physical closeness. This is not a one time thing, but a consistent effort between them you don't see with the other elves.

This doesn't just stop in the show, but also in the movies. The chance to depict interaction between a married canon Elven couple and it was cold and distant between them.

PJ didn't care for Celeborn clearly but he could've easily had him in here taking on the role that Elrond is doing for his MIL :) But his omission is pointed and you have Elrond fulfilling that instead.

If you didn't know the history or lore about them, I guarantee most would've assume they're together

Elrondriel/Galrond people I HAVE A THEORY-

SPOILERS FOR TROP SEASON 2

I find it funny Lord Sauron himself chose to appears as a brunette with soft wavy locks, big trusty brown eyes and appearing as devoted/loyal with a side of stubborness to "hit on/be hit on" by THE Galadriel (bro had access to her mind, knew what her soft spots would be), wonder WHO this reminds me of-

Sure, his hair is a tad longer than Elrond, BUT-

HEAR ME OUT ON THIS-

Sauron is everything but dumb.

Sauron had full access to Galadriel’s mind.

He could literally waltz around in her thoughts like it’s his own personal Airbnb, sipping tea and taking notes on all her emotional soft spots. And who does he channel? A guy who looks a lot like Elrond. Coincidence? I think not.

The two of them (Galadriel and Elrond) are tight.

VERY CLOSE.

They’ve got this deep, decades-long very close friendship (some like myself would say there is an underlying romance there/feelings) where they’re constantly sharing forehead touches, hand holds, and just generally being all up in each other’s personal space in the most tender, “I trust you with my life” kind of way. These two crave contact, and you see it in all the tiny little gestures between them.

Elrond's hands stop shaking as soon as he touches her arms, her hands. His eyes never leave her. He stays even when she's being reckless or stubborn. He cares about her.

Galadriel feels safe enough to relax her guard in front of him, she feels safe enough to cry in his arms, to rely on him. She cares about him.

So now imagine Sauron in his clever little “I’m gonna manipulate this situation” mindset. He knows Galadriel IS close to Elrond, that she trusts him, feels safe with him. That her and Elrond are each other's safe haven.

Maybe just maybe, by appearing with those same gentle, wavy locks and trustworthy brown eyes, Sauron is trying to tap into that. He knows that if he gives off some Elrond-ish vibes, it might pull at Galadriel's heartstrings. Maybe she’ll see him as a kindred spirit—devoted, loyal, a bit stubborn, just like Elrond.

And boom, she lets her guard down.

Now, obviously, we can say this could be totally platonic. I mean, Sauron could’ve been like, “Hey, I’m just gonna look like this guy because it’s practical.”

But come on… really? This is the dude who’s been lurking in the shadows, scheming for centuries. He knew what he was doing. It’s a classic power move, and he was playing all the angles.

Also, to add to my "he's dedicated" and manipulative thing here... Bro showed he could shapeshift into anyone. Celembribor, Galadriel herself etc.

I find it very funny he chose a look quite close to Elrond.

Also, Sauron’s new look in The Rings of Power is a total departure from what we saw in Season 1.

Gone is that darker, brooding vibe, and instead, we have this version with luscious wavy locks and those big, trusting brown eyes that make him look less like a villain and more like the guy you’d want to confide your deepest secrets to over a cozy fire. It’s almost comical and so very tragic how different he appears, and it feels like he’s channeling some Elrond-esque softness, (probably) because he’s totally seen Galadriel's heart and mind.

Did Sauron take a look into her thoughts and see how close she’s getting to Elrond?

I mean, come on, the kiss (purely platonic or NOT), the forehead touches, the longing looks: they're there for each other. They care about each other. They, on some level, love each other.

And he hates that.

And taps into it because he KNOWS that's what she craves.

Knows that's her safe haven, that Elrond is her safe haven.

It’s no wonder Sauron decided to ditch the scruff of the beard! He probably thought, “Hey, if I’m going to win her over, I need to look more approachable, more relatable. Maybe a bit softer. Oh look, why not take a look close to her bestfriend-” But let’s not kid ourselves; he’s still a far cry from being that sweet, caring dude he could never be.

But Elrond is.

Now, Sauron's like this charming, handsome stranger that’s trying too hard to be good. It’s like he’s thought, “What would Elrond do?” and went all-in on the “deceptive warmth” strategy.

He’s not just trying to fool Galadriel into seeing him as a hero; he’s playing up all those traits that resonate with her—loyalty, devotion, and that stubborn spirit she admires in Elrond. The shift feels strategic; Sauron has his finger on the pulse of her emotions, and he’s using it against her.

You can’t help but think he’s probably mulling over the fact that Elrond’s presence in her life is like this shadow looming over him. That Elrond is everything he, Sauron, cannot be for Galadriel.

That he will never be this for her.

The connection they share must just gnaw at him, knowing that Galadriel is reminiscing about those moments of intimacy, feeling all the warmth that comes from Elrond, that whatever happens she has him. Elrond.

So, what does Sauron do? He mirrors that closeness, trying to evoke those same feelings, all while wearing that new, softer look to lure her in. He's got his finger over her pulse and is ready to crush her with everything Elrond is and that's why Galadriel is devastated because Sauron tried to destroy this image, those qualities.

Tried to destroy Elrond's qualities.

And that's why I absolutely love this ending because the fact is, they have fights yes, but at the end of the day, Elrond and Galadriel still have each other, no matter what.

And it makes him furious.

Little Miss (me) not knowing heavy LOTR Lore but knowing the Witcher's one on the tip of her fingers so she's been transposing all the TROP dynamics in said-universe and now has minimum 10 chapters fully drafted and 15k words of storylines and subplots for minimum two added series/spin-offs

Please I have everything.

The damn hierarchy, the species, the kingdoms, politics, reworking on languages, the weapons, added new mythological creatures and all like I'm about to COMBUST-

So far, and that's not even everything cause we would be here for HOURS like I cannot shut up about it but hear me out:

A Galadriel/Elrond fight. Not saying why, not saying what happens after but I know I want a Geralt/Renfri like one here and you'll see why it makes sense while reading

Angst, hurt and comfort. I mean it's the Witcher Universe/AU so of course there are hurt, blood, gore etc.

I'm thinking about giving a very interesting arc to the local High Daddy King Gil-

The Politics? Oh, the political games are gonna be SPICY. Think Nilfgaard vibes but mix it with the depth of LOTR's kingdoms. Spies, betrayals, alliances forged in blood, secret sorcery, and contracts with monsters or otherworldly forces. Some kind of council that’s like the Lodge of Sorceresses, except more brutal, more manipulative, and utterly cutthroat. Plus, LOTR needs Witcher's sass. Please. I need Gil-galad being snarky at a council meeting, roasting Elrond while debating war strategies.

I will throw in more monsters—no question. I'm a monster girlie through and through. I’m thinking creatures that haven’t been seen since Morgoth’s time, so ancient and so terrifying that even the Elves are like, “Uhm… what?” I will add in a couple of contracts for monster hunters to deal with these things, but obviously, it all ties into the larger political schemes and personal arcs.

Races/Species: I am reimagining the Elves and Dwarves, Witcher-style. What if there’s a secret society of Elves who’ve been experimenting on themselves, trying to become more powerful? I will give them this dark, eerie vibe—maybe some of them have turned themselves into something almost monstrous in their pursuit of perfection. And the Dwarves? Oh, I will have them unearth something they should’ve left buried.

Humor and Sass: You know I will sprinkle in the sass. I can be a sassy petty bitch if need appears and I need them to have this sharp-edged humour! I need characters who are sarcastic, dry-humored, and unafraid to throw shade, even in the middle of serious situations. Elrond will roll his eyes at least once. And King Gil-galad? He will have moments where his sarcasm is so sharp it’s basically another weapon.

Some examples of quotes I cooked so far (not saying who said what duh):

"I never wanted to be your enemy. You think it doesn’t tear me apart to see you like this? You, who I would follow into every darkness… But you’ve made it so easy to forget who you were.... who we were. And maybe… maybe I’m the fool for believing we could ever go back."

"Mercy is a luxury we can no longer afford. I’ll not risk everything for the sake of a few lives. This world was built on blood, and it will drown in it before we’re done. So tell me... what side of history will you stand on, when the bodies fall?"

"I don’t need you to be strong for me. I just need you. The world has been cruel, Galadriel, but the cruelest thing is being without you. I’ve tried to be what everyone needed me to be, but gods… I am so tired. Just… come back to me. Please."

"So I heard you have a wraith problem." "I said "my wife", not ‘my wraith". "Did I stutter?"

"It’s truly fascinating how you manage to speak so much while saying so little. I wasn’t aware that ignorance could be weaponized so effectively. My sincerest congratulations on being a living example of that."

"Well, that was certainly one way to handle it. Not the right way, mind you, but points for creativity."

Galadriel stood at the edge of the stone balcony, gazing down upon the swelling crowd in the square of Ost-in-Edhil. The crisp mountain air bit at her exposed skin, wrapping her in its cold embrace, but the wind did little to cool the fire that flickered in her chest, the ever-growing storm of dread. Her silver-blonde hair danced with the wind, strands whipping against her face, but she did not brush them away. Her sharp, blue-grey eyes were fixed on the scene unfolding below. It was Reaping Day, the day when names would be called, and lives would be irrevocably changed. For centuries, she had watched from this very spot as the Games claimed tribute after tribute, taking away loved ones, warriors, and artisans alike. This day had never passed without a sense of foreboding, but now, the feeling gnawed at her insides in a way it never had before. Today, her own name lay in the pool, awaiting its turn to be drawn. Eregion, District Four, was known across the land for its unrivaled craftsmanship. Artisans, blacksmiths, architects— the people of Eregion shaped the world in ways only the finest hands could. Hey, lovelies!💕 So, confession time: I'm a huge fan of both The Hunger Games and Lord of the Rings (like, who isn't?!) and somehow my brain thought, “Hey, what if we combined the two and created something angsty and dramatic and full of feels?” So here we are!😂 Instead of working on my exams (which I really should be doing, let's be honest 🙈) or actually finishing my OG book draft ( to get published end of November/Early December), I went all in on this AU.

Now, just a fair warning to all my fellow Galadriel x Celeborn shippers... You might want to sit this one out if you're hoping for a rosy, happily-ever-after between them. I’ve turned Celeborn a bit darker and he’s definitely not a flawless angel in this story. (But hey, that just adds more depth to the tension, right? 👀) The dynamics between him, Galadriel, and Elrond are going to get complicated, and yes—there's lots of spice and conflict along the way.

Snippet for Chapter 1 of "Gilded Choices" because I'm going feral over them-

"The elven presenter, tall and graceful with a sharp, almost predatory smile, was speaking now, her voice ringing out over the square as she reached for the second name. The male tribute. Galadriel's breath caught in her throat, her pulse quickening. She stared straight ahead, focusing on the fluttering leaves at the edge of the square, on the mountains looming in the distance, anything to keep her mind from drifting to what was about to happen. Her heartbeat drummed louder, the names and faces of those who might be chosen flashing through her mind. Anyone. It could be anyone. The presenter’s slender hand dipped into the glass bowl filled with slips of paper, her fingers trailing over the names like it was some twisted game of fate. The crowd held its breath. Galadriel felt the tension coil in her chest as the presenter pulled out a slip and prepared to read aloud. She held her breath. But before the name could even be spoken, the silence was broken by a voice, clear and calm, cutting through the air like a blade. “I volunteer as tribute!" The words hit her like a physical blow. Galadriel’s body went rigid, her breath catching in her throat as she snapped her gaze toward the sound. The crowd gasped, parting as a figure stepped forward from the back, making his way toward the stage. And when she saw him—saw the familiar face, the dark hair tousled slightly by the wind, and those stormy deep brown eyes locked firmly on her—she felt her entire world tilt on its axis. Elrond. Her heart leaped into her throat, her pulse hammering as though it would shatter her chest. The chill of the wind vanished, replaced by a burning heat that rushed through her veins, and for the briefest moment, she couldn’t breathe. Couldn’t think. Elrond. His name slipped past her lips in a choked whisper, barely audible, her voice lost in the roar of her own mind. It couldn’t be. She had volunteered so that none of her people would suffer this fate. Not him. Please. Anyone but him."

Really liking the second TROP game but it is hard to beat annatar playing as Galadriel without buffing Resistance right before the shape shifting starts otherwise she'll take a ton of damage over time. And even the death screen is him trying to manipulate you? Apparently there's a 1/9 chance you see this one which is cool i suppose

I'm chuffed that Sauron has been twinkified bc I s2g the first time I saw him with that stubble and midwestern-horse-tomboy-who-has-above-average-fashion-sense hair I was like

He looked way too much like Viggo sometimes. And we already have two other basically just Aragorn characters.

There's something there... Sumn about Galadriel's granddaughter falling in love with a dude who looks like the form of Sauron's that was most appealing to her...,, I think mayb it's just that everyone wants to bone Viggo and that's true and real so

TROP is satiating all of my yearning for little worldbuilding details that were never considered by jirt, including-

ORC CULTURE !!!!!1!1!!!!!

Minor spoilers for Ep7 of trop?

Is anyone else going to lose their mind with me at the fact that trop just gave us a little hint of Orcish culture- which is way more than Tolkien ever gave us. Orc funerals !! They mourn !!!! They gather in silence to watch the last remnants of their kins' beings leaving the world !!!!!! I am going insane !!!!!!!!

That's not even mentioning the expansion of Black Speech- which Tolkien wasn't even interested in developing further than a few dozen words. Apparently he simply lost interest in his dedicated and painstaking explorations of culture and language when it came to the Orcs, so we were just left with a big gaping void- which was filled in the case of Elves and Men (Dwarves to alesser extent) with rich cultural history and nigh-speakable languages.

I'm just happy that the show has filled in a tiny bit of the blank space, and made the lore all the richer for it.
