White Fragility: Why it is so Hard for White People to Talk About Racism
Critical race scholar Zeus Leonardo critiques the concept of white privilege as something white people receive unwittingly. He says that this concept is analogous to suggesting that a person could walk through life with other people stuffing money into his or her pockets without any awareness or consent on the walker’s part. Leonardo challenges this conceptualization, which positions white privilege as innocence, by arguing that “for white racial hegemony to saturate everyday life, it has to be secured by a process of domination, or those acts, decisions, and policies that white subjects perpetrate on people of color.”
Zeus Leonardo, “The Color of Supremacy: Beyond the Discourse of ‘White Privilege,’” Educational Philosophy and Theory 36, no. 2 (2004): 137–52, published online January 9, 2013.
White Fragility Why it is so Hard for White People to Talk About Racism by Robin DiAngelo
“As a culture, we don’t claim that gender roles and gender conditioning disappear the moment we love someone of the “opposite” gender. I identify as a woman and am married to someone who identifies as a man, yet I would never say, “Because I am married to a man, I have a gender-free life.” We understand that gender is a very deep social construct, that we have different experiences depending on our gender roles, assignments, and expressions, and that we will wrestle with these differences throughout the life of our relationship. Yet when the topic is race, we claim that it is completely inoperative if there is any level of fond regard. In an even more ludicrous form of reality, we even go as far as to claim that racial conditioning disappears if we can calmly walk by people of color on the streets of large cities.”
Why is it ok for shit like this to be said? Just because you are a minority, does not give you the right to be blatantly rude and attack someone. I do believe racism is a huge issue in this country, however that doesn't mean that all white people agree with it. Not all white people stand with racists. Not all white people support the racist, sexist, hateful Donald Trump. Not all white people are privilege. I have firsthand experience with police brutality, and I spent 11months in jail for an EMPTY DIMEBAG. I was in jail for 6months before I even stood trial and was found guilty and further sentenced to a year in jail. I was 18 years old and had no prior record. So please, do not assume that white people have not faced their own struggles. We, as a people and a middle class, need to all stick together and respect EACH OTHER, because the government doesn't give a shit about us. I'm sick of seeing white people say and do racist things to blacks and other minorities, and I am also sick of PoC blaming ALL white people for their problems or discounting white people's problems. Why do we have to be so awful to each other?

He called him Optimus Prime. I need to log out..
It's not racist to lock your car doors when going through a terrible part of town. I never drive through Youngstown with my doors unlocked bc I've had people try to break into my car when I'm at a red light 3 times. It's called being smart.
I Grew Up Scared of Black People
I’m not really sure exactly why. My parents weren’t openly racist although they definitely were (are) but in that quiet middle class we’re democrats sort of way. Little things here and there like my mother discouraging me from befriending the only black girl in my class and telling me it would alienate me from the rest of my classmates or when I was 13 and she asked if a boy who called me was black because he “sounded it” and then telling me I shouldn’t date him because again it would “send the wrong message.” I know at least 2 of my grandparents openly and without shame used the N word and we excused it as being a product of their time. The media portrayed black people as others, people who didn’t live in my neighborhood, hell in any of the surrounding ones either. They were different from us, scary, criminals. NYC in the 80s was a warzone and the war on drugs, the war against graffiti by Koch etc… made it seem like that was a different, scary world. I had no desire to go into the city well into my teens. As I got older and became more aware of politics and racism etc… I considered myself a liberal, a champion of rights. Me? racist? of course not. But I still crossed the street if I saw a black guy walking towards me or locked my doors while driving when I went into the predominately black neighborhoods. All my friends were white with exception of a few from the Philippines and India. I had no black friends at all, there were hardly any in my school to befriend but I didn’t make an effort either. I never really analyzed or admitted my own racism, I was a liberal for god sake, doesn’t that mean I can’t be racist? duh, until I got well into my 20s. The internet had a huge part in opening my eyes to my own racism (and internalized misogyny but that’s a different post.) I was exposed to people i never would have come across in my offline life and cultures and ideas I hadn’t seen before. I listened to black voices, actually listened instead of telling myself I didn’t need to because I could never be racist and I realized that I was, that I had a hell of a lot of unlearning to do. All of us white people, every single one of us benefit from white privilege and I’m willing to bet the large majority if not all of us have some hidden racism we have to admit and unlearn. Now is the time more than ever for us to let black voices be heard and stand by them as they continue to fight for their lives and don’t get me wrong, I mean that quite literally. Yes us white women are effected by the outcome of this election, this is our fight too but we as white women need to realize that POC have a hell of a lot more at stake then we do. We have to be vigilant, we have to protect each other and we have to be willing to analyze our own selves and our own behaviors as we stand by them. I am here for all women I will do what I can when I can and I will continue to self audit and take accountability for my hand in the way this country treats it’s POC citizens. I hope we all stay safe I hope he isn’t as bad as I think he is going to be, I hope you all are well and protected even though I know you’re not, not now, not when the worst people in this country are emboldened by his winning, but I can still hope. I will continue to call out those in my life for their racism as I have always tried to do, I will continue to try and speak with facts and not emotion when I have to combat the white people in my life who are ignorant, and I will continue to listen to all of you and let myself learn because I know I will always have improving to do. Stay safe friends this is going to be one hell of a fight.
In what world are minorities still discriminated against? If u really deal w all that shit, i advise you to alert the ACLU, NAACP, or one of the millions of organizations literally put together to STOP racists. Mad about underrepresentation? MINORITY actually means you are NOT the majority, so if u account for about 13% of the population, u get about 13% of marketing representation. What is with everyone's victim complex nowadays?
Do you know what I find so funny?
The fact that when white people aren’t the centre of attention for one second, they get so fucking offended. They’re all like, “why are you excluding white people??” Or “it’s not our fault that there’s racism” or even better “it’s was our ancestors, not us!”…
Um..
Lmao! Y'all so stupid 😭 You get one taste of what it’s like not to blowing up in every aspect of life, be it in music, social media, fashion, news media, etc., and you fucking freak out! White people are literally ev-ery-where. There is not one part of life that isn’t dominated by white people. You know what? Take a fucking seat. Sit back. Relax. Let minorities take over and see what it’s REALLY like to not be noticed, acknowledged or appreciated for absolutely ANYTHING. And after a couple centuries? Come and try crying to me about “all lives mater”, some fucking bullshit that shouldn’t even exist. Come cry to me when every day you fear death because of the colour of your skin. Come cry to me when you can’t get a job, get a proper education or have equal opportunities, just because or the colour of your skin. Come cry to me when you are more likely to get shot by the cops and random CIVILIANS, just because of the colour of your skin. Come cry to me when you fear your government and have literally no place to hide from discrimination, just because of the colour of your skin. The list goes on.
Fucking try me. See how much sympathy I’ll have for your stupid asses then.
Not much, I can assure you.
White privilege at its finest. Storm the Capitol, get sent back home peacefully and having a SWAT team hold your hand while walking down the stairs.

This is probably one of my favourite protest posters I’ve seen lately

Ugh, they'll find any white male actor attractive while moc like dev patel, jimmy yang, ramy youssef, jharrel jerome, brian tyree henry etc won't get the same kind of appreciation as those white guys. This is like Adam Driver but worse

I keep thinking abt this comment and giggling

"White people: your privilege lives in the fact that you can be outraged, horrified and upset about tonight. But you are not afraid." - Jazmine Hughes thought this was a super poignant, important quote. let’s keep reading and learning and not turn away as soon as the news cameras do. this stuff is insidious and disgustingly deep in the way the world works. here is a master post of links to donate to Ferguson citizens & protestors. doooo it!
Whites and their liberal bootlickers are an infection. The settler is the colonizer is the genocider. Rejecting the most brutal form of direct violence means nothing when you refuse to divest from the structures created to accommodate you by invading and occupying them.
A settler's very existence is violent because they cannot exist without the colonial power that protects them. The only way to make it NOT violent is by dismantling the colonial power. Until then, your job is either to fucking leave, or work on educating yourself, amplifying the voices of the colonized, and accepting that armed resistance is a consequence of your existence. Holding placards over your head and yelling a lot at the people propagating and safeguarding the status quo that you benefit from doesn't merit you extra cookies anymore than accepting the softest punishment from a carceral system designed to torture the colonized to the point of death.
And if that makes you ask yourself "But...but I'm a settler! I'm white privileged! Does that mean MY existence is inherently violent to—" yes. It is. Take your unthreatened, unterrorized self to your whole and unbombed house with power and water and heat and food and your intact family, sit your ass down with the tub of ice cream you can afford and cry into it.
“There is no middle ground anymore. There is no way of supporting the liberal occupier, the progressive ethnic cleanser and the leftist genocider.”
—Ilan Pappé

Non-Whites: Having white privilege and recognizing it is not racist. But white privilege exists because of historic, enduring racism and biases- Whites: i wORkEd sO HArD!!! I trEAt eveRYonE the SaMe!!!! hOw caN yOU cALL mE a RaCisT!!!!
i'm not racist i'm just pro me and if that involves the oppression of minority groups then whatever yanno
xoxo, white supremacists
"You know what the problem with white people is? You don’t respect anybody’s humanity except for your own. You don’t respect anybody’s pain but your own. You expect Jewish people to hate Hitler, and to hate the Nazis… but you can’t understand why we should hate you.”
(via niggaimdeadass)
it is so fucking exhausting and annoying how white women, including and maybe even especially in progressive and leftist spaces, continue acting like they are not themselves still beneficiaries of tremendous privilege simply because they endure sexist or misogynistic discrimination. being a woman does not excuse the fact that you are still white and you still reap the benefits of being white! you do not get to "but sexism!" your way out of being held accountable for saying and doing racist shit!
