There's An Idea I Had About The 2 Types Of Readers That I've Been Thinking A Lot About. Maybe This Is

there's an idea i had about the 2 types of readers that I've been thinking a lot about. maybe this is already a thing, plz lmk

there are readers that want the entire story just handed to them. all of the character development, the plot, everything. they don't want to have to think about any of it, they want it all in the book. no cliffhangers, no vague backstory. these readers don't read books for the feeling of the words, they probably don't read poetry, there ought to be a point to what they read. and once this kind of reader finishes a book, they kinda move on. they may think about the plot or foreshadowing or whatever, but it's all review of the book, nothing is added to the book at this point, they just review what they know. one of my sisters is this kind of reader.

then there is the other kind. this kind reads a book and then thinks about potential scenes that a character could have, or the way he might have reacted to hearing that news, or how these characters might act when reunited. this kind of reader is the fanfic writer, the one that adds to a story after they finished the canon story. this kind is the kind that can enjoy books with very bland characters because these readers can place themselves in the characters place and give the character their own personal traits, or the reader can simply fill in the character traits or background, etc; they don't need the character to be fully formed because they will personalize the character. these readers can be entertained by anything because they are actually creating their own entertainment, they just need something to jumpstart the process.

I guess this applies to movies and shows as well as books, but I haven't really thought through the implications

I posted something similar, i mentioned how Corio had all of the opportunities to become better, all of the people, all of the experiences. He could have seen the districts and sided with them, but he used his experience to further his status. He could have met Sejanus and Lucy and their families and acknowledged the districts have the same people as the Capitol, but instead he turns against them.

Corio's life in TBOSBAS is like a choose your own adventure book, where he gets to the end of the chapter and chooses the most egotistical, self promoting, tyrannical option available.

I think what I like so much about the ballad of songbirds and snakes is that it shows the true extent of corruption and how it pollutes the soul. Snow wasn't born evil. He was undoubtedly prejudiced against the districts. He was certainly ambitious and snobby. But I think what I find most satisfying about his arc is that - to me at least - there are moments of genuine goodness on his part, or at least the potential to be good.

I think on some level, he did genuinely care about Lucy Gray. He did care Sejanus too, I think, though he didn't want to. Obviously all of this is complicated by his own toxicity and prejudices, but I think Suzanne Collins wanted to highlight the power of choices.

Snow could have chosen love and friendship. He an ample opportunity to. Those seeds of potential to do better and be better could have blossomed. but it didn't because of his own choices. because of what he valued.

I don't think Snow was born as the monster he eventually became, and I certainly don't think these moments of genuine care and affection on his part when he was younger excuses the irredeemable things he did when he was in power. But I think the great tragedy for everyone around him that were most affected by his actions (that knew him personally)- Lucy Gray, Sejanus, Tigris - is that those glimmers of goodness they saw in him that inspired them to attach themselves to Snow in the first place were, to some extent, real.

He just decided not to care anymore. He decided to complete/encourage the system instead of trying to dismantle it. Instead of seeing Lucy Gray as proof that his prejudices against the districts were wrong, he sees her as the exception. Instead of acknowledging Tigris and appreciating the sacrifices she made for him, he chose to honour his reputation and "pride" more. I could go on, really.

But part of the reason why I loved this book so much and that I'm still thinking about it months later is because it shows that Snow actively chose to become what he did. He didn't do it out of vengeance or some tragic revenge plot against the districts. He did it because ultimately he loved power more.

The fact that "protecting my investments" isn't actually about the money, like obviously everyone knows this, but the fact that INEJ IS AN EMOTIONAL INVESTMENT

like actually kaz puts so much on the line by allowing himself to care about her.

Ninjago Creatives Poll

This fandom is small but dedicated, and given how many fics we have on Ao3 I've decided to measure how many people in the (tumblr) fandom write and post fic, or are otherwise creative!

If you fall into multiple categories, choose the one you post the most or the one you prefer doing.

Reblog for larger sample size and all that. I'll post an analysis of the results if I get more than 30 responses!

This serves as inspiration for more Lloyd Almost Dies fics but additional fic ideas:

What do the ninja do bc Lloyd's in a coma

Lloyd's trauma from almost drowning

Lloyd's depression after almost dying and also being possessed

Lloyd is scared of the dark (which can be a one shot of his anxiety with details about leaving a light on or having nightmares, or it can be a lloyd moves into Kai's room in the middle of the night, or a fic abt him dealing with his fear, or the ninja trying to be supportive and not knowing what to do)

Lloyd is scared of storms (similar to above)

Lloyd is scared of all water so he drinks tea and avoids showers as much as possible (disaster)

And possible details:

Lloyd has a nightlight or leaves a lamp on all the time

Lloyd plays games or reads or smth literally until he falls asleep every night so that he doesn't think about any of it, and because he knows he'll have nightmares, and speaking of which,

Nightmares every night

He moved to other bedrooms in the middle of the night, usually kai's but sometimes Cole's

Scared of storms, doesn't want to be alone during storms

Has seemingly random silent periods where he won't speak to anyone. Interpret this as you will

As things get worse, he becomes more nocturnal. Spends days sleeping and nights reading, gaming, training, or baking breakfast for the next morning. This is a manifestation of his fear of the dark, he gets too anxious to sleep in the dark.

Devils advocate here. But what if during Possession, at the end when Moro throws lloyd into the water, what if he nearly drowns? Like Jay in Seabound. There's a lot of water in his lungs and it's looking bleak. Maybe Nya figures out how to draw it out or they take him to a hospital.

Either way, Angst.

It's just so poetic that after everything, it was a kind boy and a mockingjay singer girl that brought Snow down, that's destiny
