My Favorite Writing Thing :)
My Favorite Writing Thing :)
I love seeing stigmatized communities and character archetypes, grabbing them with such a feral energy that they may just but never do break, and whispering in their ear like i'm professing stories of the end with a flustered laugh in my eyes
"be my character. i won't change your life. i'll help you grow. i won't force you to be something you aren't so just be with me, please. let me be your god and i'll be your most devoted worshipper"

My Favorite Version Of Character
I have noticed a ✨theme✨in a lot of my characters so I will give you a step-by-step explanation of my thought process so you can steal it and i'll know I have helped a generation of tumblr users
Step 1: Grab A Mystical Creature
Bonus: They Are Associated With Purity
Think angels. Maybe even aliens? Just something on the supernatural side of things.
Step 2: Make Them Horny :)
Grab that angel character you just made and make them interested in sex or "sexy things". Grab that alien you just made and have be an alien who studies human reproduction with a focus on the actual "sexy" aspect because it's something unfamiliar to aliens.
Either way, they have a focus. A Drive
Final Step: Don't Judge Them For This, They Have Other Issues
One of my angel characters, Gabriel, is basically Nagito-levels of submissive. Complete sexual undercurrent throughout so many of their actions.
And this is never seen as bad. Heck, Gabriel is literally named Gabriel as a reward for being God's Favorite Angel due to his religious devotion and belief in God's message. Since that's all God cares about!
Gabriel has flaws that make life a little awkward but this isn't one of them.
Lesson: Sex Isn't Evil
A character being sex-positive shouldn't be shown as a bad thing. No one should be judged for their sex habits if they are using protection and regularly checking their STD status.
Sex doesn't corrupt. An active sex life isn't incapitable with morality.
If your character genuinely adores sex and this isn't a trauma response or a bad coping mechanism then they should be able to do that. #sex positive
i’m on a roll with disabilityposting so i wanna share about an aid i haven’t seen mentioned online before. LIFTING POLES, for if you have trouble sitting up or adjusting position in bed. what is it? it’s just a helpful handle above your bed! this was one of the first aids i got and it’s a lifesaver. in the past i sometimes needed to call someone to help me sit up, but with this, i just use the handle :)

here’s my lifting pole - it’s built into my adjustable bed, but you can get freestanding ones! (bed is propped up in the pic, the handle doesn’t usually touch the pillow)
and here are some glamorous stock images

i used to put cool stickers on mine. anyways, since i spend so much time in bed, i use this way more than my wheelchair and i wanted to give it some attention. underrated aid. they’re good for people with weak muscles, coordination trouble, or anything that makes it hard to move.
thanks for reading and learning a thing!
Hi, Plus-Sized Person here who can't focus on class because the chairs with the armrests because they squeeze into my stomach and I literally need to think in advance how I am going to get out of this hellhole
We don’t talk enough about the systemic health effects of casual fatphobia and how much they fucking skew the data to the point where we literally cannot know how much outcomes are actually related to fatness and how much they are related to society not being designed for fat people, like literal design.
My best friend cannot find a bra.
She’s fat. We won’t get into the ~why~ here because it honestly wouldn’t matter whether it was “all her fault” or whether it was a result of outside forces like genes and such, she still deserves a goddamn fucking bra that fits.
And she cannot find a bra.
She’s short and fat, and Fat Bras are usually full cup, but because she’s short the full cups are usually too tall, or the armbands around them are too tall, to the point where what’ll fit around her chest and over her boobs will also dig up into her arms or have such high coverage that she literally cannot wear a shirt with a neckline high enough. Any bra that goes out enough goes too high.
This affects her ability to find clothing, impacting her ability to go outside sometimes, because she has this tiny selection of bras and she constantly has to wash them and when they’re gone she has no idea when she’ll next be able to find another unicorn bra. They appear in a flash usually in startups that die soon after, and COVID has killed most the small businesses remaining where she had even a hint of a chance of finding a fitting bra.
So she wears bras that don’t fit. Or she doesn’t leave the house. One gives her back pain. The other is, obviously, not very active. She likes to be active.
If she brings it up, people suggest breast reduction surgery.
But the thing is, with a good bra, she does not get back pain.
But if it’s that hard to find a good bra, they say, wouldn’t a reduction just be easier?
Wouldn’t it be easier for you to chop off part of your flesh, they say, then for us to cut fabric and underwire to more sizes? As if that is normal. As if that isn’t horrifying.
It’s not just bras. It’s chairs. It’s benches. It’s goddamn shoes. It’s seatbelts. It’s exercise equipment - I just got an exercise bike for Christmas. I had to shop around to find an affordable one that was also rated to take my level of fat. If I were 100 pounds heavier, which some people are? I don’t think any equipment would have existed in a price range that any working person could expect to afford. I don’t think most people even look at the weight ratings on chairs and couches and furniture. Once you start? They are lower than you think. There are absolutely 100% people you love in your life - whether really tall men or just average kinda overweight fat people - who should not be using the things they are using. Who are not getting support from their mattress, their footwear, their office chair. It might be you! You might be thinking “but I am average size!”, but the amount of furniture out there that’s only weighted to about 200lbs? Or 175??? It’s SO MUCH MORE THAN YOU REALIZE. Get into the Proper Fat? The 350lb, 400lb, 500lb fat? There’s virtually nothing.
Seatbelts are not tested for fat bodies and seatbelt extenders aren’t regulated.
We know about the problems with too small a blood pressure cuff. With too low a medicine dose. With no MRI a really fat body can fit in for a thousand miles.
We know, from multiple studies on multiple oppressed communities, that social bias by itself, with zero other compounding factors, can give people worse health outcomes.
Now add up
+ one of the social biases with the least pushback even from the educated liberal set with
+ having a world that is literally not made for you. Where you cannot get clothes, furniture, or transportation in a way that will actually accommodate you,
+ where society is constantly blaming you for this. And even if you somehow (and if you know how, please tell me) manage to retain some sense of self worth and optimism and determination despite all that
+ that’s not gonna magically give you access to the daily supplies a person needs in their home and out in public that’ll make living safe and healthy life literally physically possible.
If you’re really so concerned about fat people’s health start a bra company. If you’re really so concerned about fat people’s health mandate changes to seatbelt requirements. If you’re really so concerned about fat people’s health have a variety of chairs in your waiting room with at least some being properly Fat Rated. If you’re really so concerned about fat people’s health, make it easier for fat people to be active by making exercise equipment that fits them, swimwear that’ll actually stay on them, athletic shoes that can bear them. If you’re really so concerned about fat people’s health ask they be included in more medical trials. If you’re really so concerned about fat people’s health, promote fat visibility and fat people loving their bodies - because hating yourself has literally never been good for anyone’s health.
If you’re using “concern for health” as a shield to allow you to judge and criticize strangers, you don’t give a fuck about anyone’s health. You’re just an asshole who prefers a veneer of respectability when you bully people. You’re hateful and we can see right through you.
But fatphobia isn’t just bullying. It isn’t just judgment from strangers. It isn’t just medical neglect and medical bias. Even if we could wave a wand and make all that go away, my best friend still wouldn’t have a bra that fits, people still wouldn’t have a chair that supports them, a seatbelt that protects them. It’s literally engineered in. And it slowly kills people day by day by day.
Writing Curse: Gifting You My Stories
Here are some story ideas that I have but I am either never ever going to write because they deserve to live in my brain or they are permanent WIP 🥳
Prompt 1: The Curse Of God On His Child
At the beginning of time, the only two creatures who existed are the oynx night who breathed loved out into the cosmos in a wordless yet etheral manner and a creature who declared himself God. Creation spun out of this coupling as Creation became the first angel and true child of God. God's mind started to wander as thoughts combined into ideas and ideas turned into plans.
Universe, galaxy, solar system, planet, humans. Creation was made to watch over the easily excitable children who, like their forefather, also manipulated the outside to match their insides. They smeared the red of their insides onto each other's faces as they laughed into the night about tales never told.
It was pleasant. Until, Creation did something bad. They killed God. it was an accident. They swear it was an accident. But who cares when you've killed God? No one cared about God, except the humans. Not ever the night sends shooting stars for mourners.
But Creation cared. So much. And the humans cared. Too much. They begged to hear God. Hear his comforting words. Creation begged them to stop talking about God. But humans are excitable children who wanted to talk to their father.
Creation ordered a tiny village of little boys and little girls who played and killed together to do something nice for them. A perfect little birthday present wrapped in tongues. Yes, of the two-hundred villagers, a hundred would be getting their tongues ripped out.
You might expect that they would be scared and some were. But they were also blissful. It's rare you had an opportunity to be listened to. So humans did many things that night. All lot of things that Creation didn't want them to do. And after the two hundred dead bodies were gathered together under Heaven something magical happened.
Creation knew they did something bad. Again, so they changed a bit. Denial lived in the heavens and revenge was born again.
Revenge was born out of the cries of mourning and blood and tongue. Unlike the heavenly light of Creation, they were viscous and moist with blood. Just like the tongues that were thrown into the pile.
And Revenge was going to kill Creation.
Creation was going to thrive under divinity.
Now we are here, in the modern day, no one knows what happened between these two fragmented entities. But if one thing is certain, it's that Denial and Revenge are still twirling around in their dance
Writing Advice Part 2: Disability And EVIL
Disabled adults are adults and because they're adults they have a wide variety of morality and characters since humans are an exceedingly diverse group with even more diversed existences.
WRONG!
No. No. In reality:
👿👿DISABLED ADULTS ARE EVIL, ALL EVIL!!!!!!! 👿👿 According to certain writers!
When writers take communities and existences such as the facial difference gang or the intellectually disabled doers this results in horrific portrayals of "demonization". Obviously, people with physical disabilities are often portrayed horribly. I will mention them in the facial differences saga. The only reason I am specifically talking about facial differences and intellectual disability is because physical disability and facial differences tend to overlap while intellectual disability is a common yet undertalked form of representation.
Demonization: it's just like what it sounds like. Disablity always equals evil
However, the ways that facial differences gang is demonized is different to how intellectually disabled doers are demonized.
THIS BECAUSE OF A COMMON ASSOCIATION aka
Good = Beautiful/Handsome, Evil = Ugly
For future reference, when I say ugly I mean "not conventionally attractive" and when I say beautiful I mean "conventionally attractive". Afterall, Harvey Dent is attractive. That's a fact.
A popular example of this is the James Bond franchise which has stocks full of villainous characters with various limb differences, scars, and other such things. These ugly and bad characters fight against the cool and handsome James Bond
Literally, the association between evil and "ugly" is so ubiquitous that when a character becomes disabled they also become evil. The transition between being law-abiding handsome attorney Harvey Dent and evil insane "ugly" Two-Face is marked by fire/acid.
Let me tell you, there is no link between being a bad person and being not conventionally attractive. I'm not saying you can't write bad people with facial differences but they're not bad people because of their facial differences.
Secondly, Facial differences aren't only scars. They are often congenital. There are hundreds of different kinds of facial differences. This was just to talk about the fact that most people hear "facial difference" and think "scar".
FOR INTELLECTUALLY DISABLED DOERS, their evilness comes from their supposed "mental status as a six-year old". For the purposes of clarity, I am just going to say that's not how intellectual disability is labeled and move on.
Because of their supposed "mental status" 🤢, they have no ability to guage morality. They're " *derogatory term* who does evil out of ignorance"
Firstly, intellectually disabled people can learn things, like morality. Especially, if we are talking about the majority of intellectually disabled people who have to mild-to-moderate intellectual disability. Either way, there are hundreds of education prgrams designed to help people in learning about things from periods to childrearing to reading to everything necessary for life.
Secondly, intellectually disabled people aren't children. I talked about that in Part 1 named Writing Advice: Disability And Infantilization. Check it out, it's fun.
Thirdly, intellectually disabled people exist in the real world. If you want to write a character who is intellectually disabled, you can ask them for assistance. There is nothing stopping you.
CONCLUSION: No matter what disability someone has, that shouldn't stop them from being human. You can write disabled characters as evil but disabled characters should be evil not because of disability but regardless of disability. Evil Doesn't Equal Not Conventional.
