Terfs be like: Consensual bdsm is bad because women's consent doesn't matter. Sex is inherently unfeminist by the way so women shouldnt think they can like it. Taking ownership of your desires oppresses you. Also all men are bad. By giving no positive reinforcement to feminist ally men and men who don't hurt women we are encouraging society to be better. Women need to cover up their body. Because choosing your own comfort level is unfeminist. Being a feminine woman is bad because feminine clothing is oppressive. But if you're trans then you hate women. Then they see no issues with any of these arguments??

See if tumblr didnt ban the nsfw tag and a lot of related ones we would be able to use those and then you could just block those tags, but no, everything has to be censored to make it harder to identify this content, which harms the very people the policy was meant to protect. Now people are tagging things in ways meant to be subtle or censored with numbers which makes them a lot harder to block.

Tumblr's algorithms which stop you from seeing things with certain tags only make those things more likely to be seen by people who don't like them.

Honestly I think the key to preventing a lot of dangerous actions is education, not fear.

You want college students to stop drinking? Setting up a workshop to educate them about the effects of alcohol on their brains then trusting them to make an informed decision is a lot more effective than saying "no!! alcohol bad! you should ever ever ever drink because it's bad!!!" One of these things provides actual information and teaches strategies for making safe choices. The other will be completely ineffective.

Similarly, if you want to prevent the spread of stis, it's way more effective to distribute condoms, dental dams, and finger cots along with informational pamphlets than it is to tell everyone to never ever have sex because it's bad!! Reason being, if they decide to ignore your advice in the latter scenario, they have no idea how to do it safely.

The assumptions you make about people affect how they act. People try, subconsciously, to conform to how they're perceived, which is known by psychologists as a "self-fulfilling prophecy." Expect someone to be an upstander, they become an upstander. Expect someone to be sexual harassment perpetrator? Even if you tell them not to, they may act in those negative ways

Studies show that approaching youth with a bystander-intervention model is actually a lot more effective for reducing sexual assault, and it is also more enthusiastically received than programs that bill themselves as anti-rape.

We can tell youth that they are basically “rapists waiting to happen” (anti-rape initiative), or we can tell them that we know they would intervene if they saw harm happening to someone and we want to help empower them to do that (bystander intervention). The kids jump in with both feet for the latter! It was amazing to see children (and young boys in particular) excited to do this work and engage their creativity with it. Also, studies show that not only do they go on to intervene, but they also do not go on to sexually assault people themselves. Bystander intervention also takes the onus off the person being targeted to deter rape and empowers the collective to do something about it. It answers the question in the room when giggling boys are carrying an unconscious young woman up the stairs at a house party, and people are not sure how to respond and are waiting for “someone” to say or do something.

The answer to the first question is short:

Because he wanted to.

THAT'S IT, AND IT'S ENOUGH.

It's his song, his career, his voice, his time. It's his choice. He doesn't need OUR approval and he certainly doesn't need our permission.

I think we should be thanking him frankly.

Not just because he made a sexy song although I think it's more sweet than sexy personally but also because it's started so many conversations that I think we need to have.

And that's what is really on my mind, The conversations we need to have, not just about JK and his artistry and his choices, but also about ARMY. About us as human beings.

Let's start with him...

JK's Adult Life:

First thing for me is that JK is UNQUESTIONALBLY an adult. But he's a (relatively) young adult in an industry that's very judgemental, controlled, and tightly scheduled.

He may have money coming out of his wazzoo and millions of adoring fans, but he has limited personal freedom. It's sure as hell not an exchange I would make. I'd choose an average income and the freedom to walk down the street hand in hand with my guy without making headlines - every day of the week.

The fact that he has any kind of personal life is cause for celebration in my eyes. And like the 19+ version of the song, it should be his choice.

I hope it is what he wants it to be. I hope he does have s3x every day of the week if he wants it (and I'm quietly cheering him on) but I don't need to know. I'm not going looking for any information (gossip, let's be real) about that aspect of his life because it's none of my business.

JK's Artistic and Creative Choices:

The songs he sings, the photos he poses for, the choreo for his dances, the words he speaks... these are his creative expression. To an extent they reflect who he is as a person, but largely they reflect a concept or story he wants to tell with his music. I would really hate it if he started creating work with the aim of pleasing someone else (ARMY, or the media, or any other entity). To me that would mean he had lost his self-belief, and that his spirit was broken. It would be a sign that he was more motivated by fear of rejection than by his own desires and creativity.

Personally I love that he trusts us and shows us so much of himself through his art. If that ever changed, it would be a sad, sad day indeed.

Now let's talk about ARMY - and for the purposes of this discussion, I'm talking about ALL OF ARMY but mostly in relation to JK.

ARMY - Our Diverse Fandom:

The fandom has a beautifully broad demographic. I love that about us. Of course it means we have differences, but if we acknowledge that and we respect each other's right to those differences, we are all good.

And because we are all fabulously unique individuals, it's a given that not everything JK (or BTS) creates will appeal to every one of us.

BUT...

We can support their right to make creative choices without engaging with the things that don't work for us.

If some ARMYs are uncomfortable with explicit lyrics, they can scroll past/skip/block songs that are outside their comfort zone.

If some of ARMYs are minors, their parents can supervise their media consumption (because that's their job as parents).

If some ARMYs feel that songs about making woopie aren't their jam, they can instead listen to other songs that are more to their taste.

Magic! Problem solved!

We really do need to talk about S3X

ARMY, we are humans:

Most humans have s3x. As adults (hopefully), when we are ready (hopefully), and if we want to (hopefully).

So what's the big deal about an adult making a choice to sing about that? We were all fine with him singing about 'loving you seven day a week' but when he clarified what that meant, suddenly there was a crisis.

Is it the word F**K? Because if it is, that word is everywhere and it's honestly just a word. He's sung it before. RM sang it, YG sang it, JM sang it. And let's be real, Letto's lyrics were far more explicit and she didn't say that word once.

WARNING: REAL S3X TALK COMING UP.

Is it because he's explicitly telling us that he's sexually active? Did we forget he's an adult? Where do we think he learned to move his hips like that... yoga?

For the ARMYs who are shocked that JK is sexually active, where do you think you came from? We humans don't reproduce like flowers. You were also concieved. Your parents, your grandparents, your great grandparents, have all had s3x... probably many, many times because s3x isn't only about reproduction. It's also about human connection, pleasure, stress relief, and being an adult.

In his live, JK told us that he doesn't consider the explicit lyrics to be 'dirty' and that's awesome.

S3x positivity is healthy both physically and emotionally. Seiously, considering how much of our humanity is linked to this instinctive need, it would be so much better if we weren't conditioned to feel shame about it. If we were instead taught to talk about it comfortably, to express our desires, to understand our bodies, and to protect our rights.

I could go on and on about this (and about control, the patricarchy, and body autonomy) but let's just say that JK is right. It's not dirty, its not immoral. When consenting adults choose to do it with someone they trust it's f**king awesome.

I have noticed a ✨theme✨in a lot of my characters so I will give you a step-by-step explanation of my thought process so you can steal it and i'll know I have helped a generation of tumblr users

Step 1: Grab A Mystical Creature

Bonus: They Are Associated With Purity

Think angels. Maybe even aliens? Just something on the supernatural side of things.

Step 2: Make Them Horny :)

Grab that angel character you just made and make them interested in sex or "sexy things". Grab that alien you just made and have be an alien who studies human reproduction with a focus on the actual "sexy" aspect because it's something unfamiliar to aliens.

Either way, they have a focus. A Drive

Final Step: Don't Judge Them For This, They Have Other Issues

One of my angel characters, Gabriel, is basically Nagito-levels of submissive. Complete sexual undercurrent throughout so many of their actions.

And this is never seen as bad. Heck, Gabriel is literally named Gabriel as a reward for being God's Favorite Angel due to his religious devotion and belief in God's message. Since that's all God cares about!

Gabriel has flaws that make life a little awkward but this isn't one of them.

Lesson: Sex Isn't Evil

A character being sex-positive shouldn't be shown as a bad thing. No one should be judged for their sex habits if they are using protection and regularly checking their STD status.

Sex doesn't corrupt. An active sex life isn't incapitable with morality.

If your character genuinely adores sex and this isn't a trauma response or a bad coping mechanism then they should be able to do that. #sex positive

😅 It would probably blow an evangelical's mind to learn that some scientists have caught evidence of fetuses touching themselves in the womb.

Humans evolved with the potential (not the certainty) of procreation. Sexuality is inborn, not taught.

You can't "teach" or "influence" someone to be queer any more than you can "teach" or "influence" someone to be cishet.

You can try and force them.

If you're an asshole.

But it will be for nothing cause it's not gonna work.

What needs to be taught are the definitions and knowledge that will allow the child to understand themselves better, and eventually, navigate their inborn sexuality more safely and happily.

And so, all these religious conservatives do by denying children honest, open, and age-appropriate sex education; is stunting their development as a person at least, and endangering them with enforced ignorance at most. 🤷🏾‍♀️

(Kind of explains why child abuse in religious groups and regions are higher than non religious ones.

The abuser takes advantage of the child's lack of knowledge, as well as their indoctrinated shame, fear, and silence around the topic of sex, in order to deceive and manipulate the child into staying quiet).

I like what sex-positivity sets out to do, but the problem for me is the way that a lot of people practice sex-positivity in the mainstream movement – namely, without a critical analysis component. And I want to talk about that. So here are three points to consider when thinking through this stuff.

Sex-positivity is a movement that arose from a need for us to accept and value sexuality without guilt, shame, and hurt.

I’m about that.

But when we stop asking hard questions in favor of assuming that everything is revolutionarily enlightened and therefore devoid of the intricacies of oppressive structures, I have to step back and question whether or not that’s a movement I want to be a part of.

And unless that critical analysis is present, I don’t.

hi! I haven’t been active lately but this ask has been ruminating with me for a while. I might hop on the wagon again with something not OBX related, but nothing is for sure. I’ve been reading a lot and just hanging out a lot with friends and family which is nice, and I’m sorry it took so long for me to get to this.

Try putting a towel down. It’s not uncommon for you to feel that way! Peeing before you start, or even doing in it the tub or shower can help you not be afraid of making a mess. This isn’t a health advice blog and I’m definitely not a medical professional, but I think as a writer of smut and someone who is very pro sex and masturbation it’s important to embrace the messy parts of pleasure as well as the challenges they present.

for one, they have to be asexual. they also have to be alloplatonic. they have to hate romance. they have to hate shipping. they have to think friendship is inherant to the experience of life. they have to be aplphobic, intentionally or not.

hi, i'm an aromantic who loves romance and shipping. this doesnt mean i hate being aromantic. i'm also asexual and alloplatonic! but just because i support aroallos and aplatonics, i feel uncomfortable in the aromantic community and aromantic spaces.

i know and love aplatonics, aroallos and non repulsed aromantics. and the aro community revolves around friendship and sex repulsion (specifically the aroace community, which seems to think it's the only aromantic experience) and romance repulsion.

i would also like to mention that the asexual community is the same about alloaces, and of course theres the aroace overlap where they all hate apls.

being aroace while not being repulsed and not being aplphobic is alienating. it fucking shouldn't be. accept that some of us have a different experience and some of us don't think friendship is universal or inherant to the aromantic experience. does any of this make sense.
