I walk around like everything’s fine but deep down, inside my shoe, my sock is sliding off.

Peggy: Are you drunk?
Howard: Only on the spirit of Christmas!
Jarvis: And the spirit of whiskey.

Do some of y’all really think Once On This Island has nothing to do with race simply because the jr production doesn’t mention it??? If you have to take away something, that wasn’t even offensive to begin with, then that’s a sign that maybe you shouldn’t be doing it. But some of y’all still don’t seem to get that so lemme break it down by using references from the lyrics.
We Dance-
“Where the sea, sparkling in the sun, earns it the name “Jewel of the Antilles.”
The grands hommes, with their pale brown skins and their French ways, owners of the land and masters of their own fates.
And the peasants, black as night, eternally at the mercy of the wind and the sea...
Who pray constantly... to the gods.”
1. Jewel of the Antilles. What island is nicknamed the jewel, or pearl, of the Antilles??? Haiti. It is said to be called that due to its beauty and the fact that it gave France a lot of money.
2. The grands hommes have pale BROWN SKIN, aka they are light skin, French waves which they got from one of their ancestors cuz he is white. They literally have freedom and privilege due to being lighter. NOT WHITE.
3. This is pretty self explanatory but in case you don’t know due to being darker in complexion the peasants are left on their own. They do not have the privileges of the grands hommes and are looked down upon for their dark skin. That is called colorism. This is literally why Daniel’s father doesn’t want him to be with Ti Moune.
4. The gods are literal gods. They weren’t simply made up. They are worshipped in voudou. Voudou is a closed practice and is practiced by Black ppl. These gods are Black deities.
Now that’s only one (1) song and only a few lines that I used …Put it all together and what do you get? A story that discusses colorism as well as other topics such as love. It is not that hard to understand why it should not be done if the cast isn’t Black. Y’all need to get together.
Don't think about
don't think about Alador not knowing where any of his kids are
don't think about Edric and Emira gripping onto each other as their world falls apart around them with no idea where the rest of their family is, if they're even safe
don't think about the fact they might not even be together
don't think about Darius feeling the pain of the draining spell but all he can think about is the sixteen-year-old kid he cares about despite himself feeling the same pain
don't think about all the other children with coven sigils, in so so much pain as the man everyone trusts betrays them
don't think of Gus' dad learning no one knows where his twelve-year-old son is
don't think of people running for cover as their world falls apart and rebuilds around them
don't think about the ones who couldn't get away in time
don't think of King, so young and so scared, alone with the collector
don't think about Willow's dads patiently waiting for their daughter to come home and their bone-deep grief when she doesn't
don't think about the twins screaming and wailing when Alador tells them he doesn't know where Amity is and the last time he saw her, she was going to fight Belos, the most dangerous man on the Isle
don't think about Eda realizing that despite her best efforts in the end she couldn't protect either of her kids
don't think about Eda reuniting with Lilith and both of their faces falling realizing the other doesn't have the kids
don't think about Camila opening the doors and being so relieved to see her daughter but so worried when she sees how tired and sad all the kids huddled together at her front door are
don't think about the kids quietly but surely patching each other up, older and much more exhausted than they should be
don't think about the fact none of them are going to be to get a good night's sleep for a while
don't think about the kids huddled together mourning people that may be alive because they just don't know
Jarvis: When I said you should try being friendlier this isn’t what I meant.
Howard, stirring a cup of tea aggressively: Oh, so now I’m TOO friendly? There’s no pleasing you.
Peggy, who broke into their house and hour ago: Two sugars please.
Howard: Coming right up.
Amity: I didn't know what kind of chocolate you like, so I got you all of them.
Luz: Babe, there are like 300 boxes here.
Amity: I panicked, okay?
