Die Sambesi Region ist ein regenreiches Gebiet im Nordosten Namibia. Der alte (deutsche) Name Caprivi oder Caprivizipfel wird heute noch oft verwendet. Allerdings wurde das Gebiet 2013 offiziell in Sambesi umbenannt.

The Zambesi region is situated in the north-east of Namibia and unlike the rest of the country is blessed with good rainfalls. The old german name Caprivi or Caprivi Strip is still in common use although the region had been officially renamed to Zambezi in 2013.

In a semi-arid country like Namibia, where deserts fringe both the eastern and western borders, water is a precious resource. At the onset of summer towards the end of the year, Namibians watch the skies expectantly waiting for the clouds to gather and the first raindrops to hit the parched earth. For such a country, it is no wonder that the symbol of a windmill is one that has been ingrained in generations of Namibians, representing hope and life as it catches the wind and turns, pumping up water from underground reservoirs. 

In einem halbtrockenen Land wie Namibia, in dem Wüsten sowohl an der Ost- als auch an der Westgrenze liegen, ist Wasser eine wertvolle Ressource. Zu Beginn des Sommers, gegen Ende des Jahres, beobachten Namibier den Himmel und warten erwartungsvoll darauf, dass sich die Wolken sammeln und die ersten Regentropfen auf die ausgedörrte Erde treffen. Für ein solches Land ist es kein Wunder, dass das Symbol einer Windmühle in Generationen von Namibiern verwurzelt ist und Hoffnung und Leben repräsentiert, wenn es den Wind fängt und sich dreht und Wasser aus unterirdischen Stauseen aufpumpt.

Der Gondwana Canyon Park wurde 1996 gegründet und ist ein landschaftlich reizvolles, privates Naturschutzgebiet. Die Landschaft wird dominiert von Plateaubergen, die faszinierende Aussichten über die weit ausgedehnten spärlich bewachsenen Ebenen bieten. Besucher können in einer der vier Lodges der Gondwana Collection oder auf einem Campingplatz übernachten. Aus den Einkünften der Lodges und der Parkgebühr wird ein Prozentsatz direkt in Umweltschutz im Gondwana Canyon Park investiert.

In 1996 the private and scenic nature reserve ‘Gondwana Canyon Park’ was founded. Its landscape is dominated by plateaus which offer fascinating views over the widely spread and sparsely vegetated plains intercepted by granite hills and dolerite dikes. Visitors can stay over in one of the four lodges of the Gondwana Collection or on the campsite. From the income generated by the lodges and the park fees a certain amount is invested directly into the conservation of the Gondwana Canyon Park.

The Okavango Delta is one of the largest and most important inland wetlands of the world, covering 16,000 km², with 2500 species of plants, 65 fish species, 20 large herbivores and over 450 species of birds.
