Kaeya has a voiceline within the character menu that goes as follows: "Albedo, eh? Calm, collected, and incredibly talented. He's the type everybody likes, some even more so than others. What, you into him as well?" Although this line can be interpreted as Kaeya noting how the Traveler is fond of Albedo like others, but I chose to interpret it as Kaeya being fond of Albedo.

They both work under the umbrella of the Knights of Favonious, and have more than likely worked together on missions. Any event that Albedo apears in, Kaeya is never far behind. Albedo trusts Kaeya enough to let him go with Klee into Sumeru without any hesitation.

They are Klee's big brothers. They are two bros sitting in a hot tub, five feet apart because they are totally not gay. They are like Genshin Impact's version of Daniel Howell and Phil Lester of DanAndPhilGAMES, or Arin Hanson and Dan Avidan of GameGrumps and the 10MPH. Aka, homoerotic without either being gay (Kaeya is bisexual and I will not accept anything else) or being together outright.

They are gay your honnor.

“Albedo.”

He drew another line along the canvas with careful precision. Each stroke needed to be perfect, to capture the essence at its core, and the smallest mistake meant he would have to start over.

“Albedo.”

Another line, another streak of black ink across white before he flicked his wrist and filled it in. If he messed up now, then there was no telling if he would get another chance to capture it. Just one stray line, one wrong flick or splatter of ink, and it ruined the whole thing. He pursed his lips and frowned.

“Al-be-do.”

You reached over and with careful swiftness, plucked the brush from the head alchemists’ hand. Careful not to ruin whatever it was he was working on and cocked one hip to the side. A frown on your face when those blue eyes lifted to greet you, finally.

“Oh.” The alchemist finally spoke, “you’re here.”

You ignored the sting in your chest at the flat tone and sighed, twirling the brush between your fingers. Careful not to let any of the stray droplets hit you or the back of the canvas that obscured most of the Albedo’s figure. Maybe once upon a time you could and would have ignored the sting that his disinterested reply gave you. But that was years ago, when you were still naïve and absolutely infatuated with the Favonius Head Alchemist. When you hoped you would capture that spark in his eye and draw his attention. When you stupidly threw yourself into a field you held no talent in all for the attention of a man. One who still never acknowledged you or your efforts. Not really.

“Yes, I’m here. Freezing my damn ass off to boot and all you have to say is ‘oh’?” You tried to pretend the scowl on your face was playful enough that it hid the hurt beneath it.

“There is tea over there, I started it—” he swiveled in his seat. Canvas forgotten as his eyes fell on the ice cold teapot over the long since faded fire.

“How many hours ago?” You rested your free hand on your cocked hip. “Archons, Albedo. If it wasn’t for me and Sucrose, what hole would you have fallen and frozen in?” You shook your head and set the brush down off to the side before making your way to the logs to start the fire again.

“What are you even going to do when I’m—” You stopped short and sighed, shaking your head.

It wasn’t like he would care or notice. Perhaps he would think you simply were off doing whatever like the last time you disappeared for several weeks before he even noticed you were absent. That one probably hurt the most. You still had the souvenirs in your bedroom that you never got around to giving him. How could you? He didn’t even notice your absence as his assistant. Not that you were a good assistant, maybe that was why he didn’t notice. You excelled in the field, a talent for fighting rather for a pen and paper with equations of formulas on it. You tried your damndest to fit in, with Sucrose going well out of her way to even help you with some basics, hoping you would improve. Sadly, though you grasped it, your reasons for pursuing it all but fell through the cracks of your fingers. Like sand slipping through. Chasing after a man who never acknowledged you taught you some harsh lessons you needed to learn.

You picked up several logs and carried them over to the spent fire and dropped them onto the top. Staring down at your outstretched hands and the scar that lined the top of your right. A fine line from the knuckle at your pinky down to your wrist where it wrapped around to your palm and stopped there at the center. A token for your excursions out with the other knights when you began to learn that your place wasn’t by the alchemist’s side. But outside, where the rain soaked you to the bone and hid your tears. Where the wind carried away the unrequited love you held onto for so long and reminded you that freedom was waiting. You learned a lot that trip. It was what brought you here today. Though it pained you to let go of this familiar setting, the familiarity of both Sucrose and Albedo, you needed to let go. You needed to be free from the feelings that shackled you down. If you were poetic, you could think of Albedo as the ground beneath your feet. You hoped he would ground you to reality, but the stone ended up a prison. The earth was no place for someone like you, with the wind in their veins fueling their vision for freedom.

“When did you get that?”

You flicked your eyes up to Albedo who stood beside you, staring down at the scar on your hand with a thoughtful yet concerned look on his face.

“Ah.. last year, remember? Or well, you probably don’t.” You turned away, ready to dismiss it with an empty wave of your hand.

“When you went on the trip with the Knights to Sumeru?” He faced you, a rather serious expression on his face.

You looked at him, surprised before glancing away.

“Ah, you remember. I’m.. partially surprised.” He never even asked about it, didn’t acknowledge you even left. It was hard to give someone souvenirs when they acted like you never left.

“Of course.” He turned back to the fire and knelt down to light it and start the tea over again. “I read the report at length from one of the other Knights. They praised your quick-wit and skill on the field which saved another Knight’s life.”

You brought one hand to your chest, conscious of the fact it was the same one that bore the scar from the incident he just spoke about. The heavy thumping of your heart fueled the flush that dusted across your cheeks. You didn’t even know there was a report that went to him, even though he was technically your superior. Thankfully, your back was to him so he couldn’t see the red that tinged your cheeks, so he knew about it all but never said anything?

“You came back.. Different.” He continued, and the clink of the teapot and the crack of fire came to life.

You cleared your throat and shook your head, shaking off the fluttering of your heart. No, him knowing all this time changed nothing. Your feelings for him may never change, but you could still change and grow without him. He was the Favonius Head Alchemist and you—you needed to be more than just his assistant. Your blood called for freedom, to grow and spread your wings. Though some part of you would always love him, he was far too grounded to let you soar.

“That’s kind of.. Kind of what happens when you have a near death experience, you know? Puts things into perspective.” You moved around the makeshift camp he had up in this forsaken mountain. Half wishing Sucrose hadn’t asked you to come up in her stead, but it was the least you could do for her. You still owed her so much. So if she wanted to avoid the freezing weather in pursuit of whatever caught her eye again, you would do what she asked.

The sound of something shattering behind you made you jump, turning on a dime to see something you rarely ever did. Albedo’s wide and calculating eyes centered on you. Not through you like his gaze was most of the time, but directly on you. It made your heart beat thrum and threatened to make your cheeks heat up. But you quickly moved to gather the shattered pieces of the teacup.

“What happened?” You asked. Did he heat it too much without any water?

You knelt down at his side and gathered the shattered shards when he knelt down in front of you. His hands grabbed your wrists, making you drop the broken pieces in hand and level him with a confused stare.

“Albedo?”

“The report didn’t say you had a near death experience.” His eyes flicked over your face, then down you slowly and to your hands. Where he gently slid his own gloved hands down both your hands. He let go of your left in favor of holding your right one with both of his. Trailing his finger along the scar on the front and followed it carefully with his index finger to your palm. Turning your hand over to continue to trace it to the center.

“When we return, will you tell me what happened?” He asked for the first time and a sting of bitter resentment bubbled forth and erupted as laughter. Something that took him by surprise as his blue eyes snapped away from tracing the path of the scar to your face.

“Sorry,” you smothered the laughter and looked away, unable to hold his gaze.

How long was it that you vied for his gaze and attention? Now that you had it, it felt suffocating. He wasn’t scrutinizing you, he rarely ever did unless he was mulling over how to best dumb something down enough to explain to you. But he never came off judgemental with it. But to only hold his gaze when you felt inferior took its toll, and now he was looking at you like this. It made your heart beat and your blood boil.

“But that’s partially why I’m here, Albedo. This is my last week, I’m leaving right after.”

His hands dropped yours.

“Leaving?” He echoed and furrowed his brow as his gaze fell to the ground. Searching for something, likely racking his brain and turning everything over to figure out what you could leave for.

“I gave you my resignation letter last month, remember?” You quirked a brow at him.

He stilled, eyes snapping back to your face with wide eyes. If you didn’t know him by now, it might have stung more than it did. Maybe if it was you from a year ago you would have even cried. But as it was, you only pressed your elbow to your knee and propped your head into your hand. A bitter smile worked its way onto your lips.

“You never opened it.” You stated.

“I never opened it..” He echoed, confirming.

The small letter you gave him a month ago that he dismissed as being something else and setting it aside only to forget it entirely. Out of every calculation, out of every route and scenario, never once did he consider it was your resignation letter. If he knew about your near death experience, would he have calculated it differently? Would he have known it was that and not some formal letter they gave you to pass along about the awful smell coming from the lab from Sucrose’s experiment?

“For the most part you’re spot on,” you looked down at the shattered pieces of the cup as the fire beside the two of you roared to life. You began plucking them back up to toss away less he forgot and stepped on them later, or worse you wake up and somehow trip and cut yourself on them. “But, even after all this time, you forget there are things and variables you didn’t account for. That you don’t know about which can influence the contents of the letter being handed to you.”

He watched you pick up the pieces, one by one before you stood up and turned away from him, tossing them into the nearby trash.

“Why, to where?” He finally asked, standing up, his full attention on you.

You stood by the mouth of the cave he made camp in and eyed the snow as it fell. It looked like the blizzard was settling for the moment, so you would use this opportunity to head out for more firewood.

“To Fontaine. As for why,” you looked up at the sky then turned to look at him. A soft smile on your face and an ache in your eyes that resonated with the head alchemist. “When I asked the earth how to fly, it never responded.”

You turned, the vision hanging from your belt loop glowed a light green as you held your hand out. The wind beneath your hand allowed you through the makeshift barrier you made to keep the icy chill out. You ventured out of it and Albedo watched as you hugged your coat closer but gazed up at the sky. A smile on your face as the wind washed over you. Cold, but comforting.

He watched until you disappeared around the corner and then turned his attention to the canvas that held his attention earlier. The fine features of your face, the subtle curve of your jaw and the reserved look in your eye he painted no longer matched the real thing. It was no longer perfect for it no longer matched you perfectly.

He sighed.

Albedo

The Chief Alchemist is the most creative on this whole list when it comes to your wedding rings. First of all, they are undoubtedly matching, have the most intricate design he put a lot of meaning into and everything from the sketch to the final product was done by his own hands with your preferences and additions kept in mind. Secondly, he wouldn’t be himself if he didn’t make use of his vast knowledge and alchemy skills.

You have absolutely no idea how he managed to do it, but the man made some sort of connection between the two rings. Since both of you never take it off, even in biting cold both bands remain warm - because the skin of one another keeps it as such and transfers it to the twin ring, creating a constant heat exchange.

But that’s not all! Albedo is truly a genius, because he made metal receptive to the touch. If you rub your ring, your lover will receive a feeling as if you are gliding the tips of your fingers right where his own ring is wrapped and vice versa. This helps a lot when his work requires his presence on Dragonspine for a long period of time. You can exchange small kisses and caresses like this and it is really comforting and gives both of you strength to carry on with your tasks until you meet again.

And believe me, Albedo is aware how special and unique you feel ever since he presented you with such an invention for you two to share. Thus, if one day someone learns of your rings’ secret and comes to him with a request to create the same pair - he’ll refuse no matter how much mora offered. He worked hard to make you happy and every moment he managed is sacred to him.
