Perhaps what he's doing with Alicent is not the same situation, because, he's actually in love with Alicent and has been for eighteen years. Therefore, he doesn't feel used or having lost something when he's with her, because, she is his everything.

See how that works?

He hates Rhaenyra because she cost him his honor on a whim and it wasn't for love.

Whereas he doesn't see it as the same with Alicent, because, what they're doing, they're doing out of love for one another.

Why is this so fucking hard for this fandom to grasp.

Criston hates Rhaenyra cause she forced him to do something that nearly destroyed his world and his life, and she did it for literally no reason. Meanwhile, Criston loves Alicent and knows that she respects him and cherishes him as a integral part of her life.

I'm so sick of this "Alicent his just getting her rocks off" narrative. Or "Criston didn't want to be Rhaenyra's whore but he's fine with being Alicent's." Bullshit. Why does everyone in this fandom regress to thirteen year olds with no emotional maturity just because two people are having sex.

Thinking about ships for Daeron when he does show up (please god let Daeron be real). These are my top two options right now, Baela Targaryen and Nettles

For Baela, they have the same appeal that Aemond x Rhaena has for me. Star crossed loves on the different sides of the battle field. You also have Baela as the heir and ruler of Driftmark and Daeron being her malewife supporter who defends her right to her home over anyone else.

For Nettles, they kind of have the same star cross lovers thing but more like the Prince falls for the enemy general kind thing. Also Daeron being super bashful and shy around Nettles because she’s very outgoing and a little crass. Also Daeron asking Nettles which targaryen she’s related to and her saying she’s not related to any targaryen and he’s just like, “you approached a dragon, without being part targaryen, and got it to bond to you? You’re so fucking cool”. Also I love the idea of Alicent wanting Daeron to marry for love and her and him having secret weddings with their chosen person (Criston for Alicent cause I’m a filthy Alicole shipper). Also k like Nettels being with someone her own age and not a creepy old man.

Alicent's best quill is suddenly gone. Oh dear, there's the dowager queen chasing her squealing granddaughter down the corridor.

so i think show!alicent would never sleep with criston cole (and vice versa) and i truly believe that only makes them desire each other more. and there's something deeply exciting to me about how twisted that is.

like yeah i enjoy the idea of the bubble finally bursting and them having having dramatic passionate sex, but i dont really see that as being in character for them (although I WILL read those fics)

I can only see a continuation of years of torturous tension...of them making meaningful eye contact and then looking away, flustered, or lightly brushing hands and savouring the few moments of physical contact they can have without being improper

i think both of them have wild fantasies that neither of them will ever act upon because it will ruin the ideals of purity and devotion that they want for themselves and each other

i think if either of them acted upon their sexual desires, the other would not only be disappointed, but lose interest entirely

however, i think if they became aware of each others sexual desires and even acknowledged them...but made it clear that they would never touch each other...that would just drive both of them crazy with lust because they would be proving to each other that no matter how much they want each other, they have the fortitude to resist...even though it's so so difficult

Though I do pray that whatever goes on between them occurs after b&c, or at the very least, not during it.

The last thing I want to see is Ali being horrendously punished for thinking about herself for the first time. Also, you know, Alicole, Alicent and Criston antis would have a field day, hating on them for getting it on as Helaena and her kids suffered.

(As if their beloved blacks weren't responsible for this tragedy in the first place but whatever.)

We should also take into account the fact that Alicole acting on their feelings after b&c would add a lot more meaning to their relationship in general.

Actually ,don’t think about the not yet seen Alicole goodbye scene .Because you’ll have to think about the fact that Criston parts to his slaughter to save the kids they raised together and Alicent will not stop him because she’ll always think about her kids first .You’ll have to think about Alicent losing not only her protector ,her devoted friend ,her children’s mentor but also the only person who ever actually understood and cared about her without any reservation or familial bond .You’ll have to think about Criston dying and him knowing he failed to protect her and her kids .She was his light in the darkness and his will to live and he dies trying to protect her and he fails at it .

But specifically I want those two to be so entrenched in their own morals and ideals that they hurt from want. I need heavy breathing, and lingering touches!! I want lustful looks, and internal turmoil!! I want them to both be so consumed by their hatred for Rhaenyra and her freedom that they deny themselves the pleasure of being loved !!!!! I want anguish and self denial and self righteousness that drives them to sickness with desire … I want those bastards to be so in love that they’re miserable

funniest thing about alicole is that it's all about context because if you showed someone pictures of them together they would go "that woman looks miserable" but then you show them pictures of her in any other setting and she looks even more miserable. he's been dedicating his whole life to slightly alleviating the misery. they might think "oh so if you show me pictures of the guy in any other setting he also looks more miserable?" but no. you show them pictures of him riding his horsey with his war buddy and he's beaming. "then why is he with her" well you see without her he would be dead

“she’s the beacon i follow” and “the queen is an enduring mystery, is she not?” are somehow some of the most poetic lines on hotd and it came from two men the audience would least expect it from. criston sees alicent as a savior figure, the beacon on the hightower, while aegon sees his wife and children as pure and sanctified (unlike himself). its also tragic bc it denotes a separation: alicent/helaena are holy and criston/aegon can’t ever fully understand them. they’re untouchable and unknowable. but in truth, so much would be solved if they just stopped putting them up on a pedestal and had a proper talk
