The thing about the song Giant woman is that, to me, Steven is not just singing about wanting to see Opal, but about wanting to see Pearl and Amethyst getting along.

During a big part of the show, and especially in the first season, Pearl and Amethyst, Steven's family, are constantly arguing. It is very natural for a person, especially a child, to suffer when relatives are fighting. Just think of the fight they had at the Kindergarten, Steven was clearly upset.

So yeah, Giant woman is not about wanting to meet Opal to me, but about wanting his family to be happy.
