It was dreamlike. Nightmarish? Not always. Sometimes it was beautiful.

SUCH a good movie, adapted from one of my favorite authors. I loved being able to study the gifs of this moment - thanks to pixelrey!

i’ll make you lick my injuries
i’m gonna twist your head off, see
this sucks so bad i need to (remembers suicide jokes only make my mental health worse) join an expedition into Area X
isn’t this beautiful? aren’t you glad you can see?
It wasn’t destroying. It was changing everything. It was making something new.
ANNIHILATION — 2018, dir. Alex Garland
Just watched Annihilation high out of my mind for the first time and I feel like I'm in a fever dream right now
I loved everything about it. I love how uncaring Area X is, how it lacks purpose. How the bear is not a bear and it won't eat the body because maybe it doesn't understand the purpose of eating anymore. How Area X is natural. How there's not one unnatural thing about it, actually. How it says your need to control is unnatural. That you will self-destruct and you will change and you will create. There WILL be change. There WILL be creation. You ARE part of the whole and the whole is part of YOU. How there is no evil here but people are still dying and everybody is so afraid all of the time and I get it
And then they hit you with the
"It was... dreamlike" "Nightmarish?" "Not always. Sometimes it was beautiful"
and fuck, isn't everything?
It was dreamlike. Nightmarish? Not always. Sometimes it was beautiful.

Literature Prompt #1, Jeff VanderMeer’s Annihilation
“We all live in a kind of continuous dream,” I told him. “When we wake, it is because something, some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we’ve taken as reality.”― Jeff VanderMeer, Annihilation
Write about an event which disturbs your protagonist’s idea of reality. What happens? Do they change or hold on to the illusion? Or do they go mad?
Ayyyy hello again
Watched Annihilation this (idk the word in english so translate it) segunda-feira with my beautiful gorgeous perfect girlfriend (as always)
And yknow i fr forgot to write smth about it, so thanks to my amazing and incredible gf for reminding me
So
Great film
7/10
Oh but why 7?
Bro ong i have almost no idea of what those fuckers were saying when we were watching. Like. They spoke so fucking quietly that just man. I fr couldnt understand most of the story (just a sidenote yeah my gf didnt understand shit too, it was a bit rough)
HOWEVER
The story that we COULD understand was so fucking cool (aside from the TWO FUCKING SCENES OF UNECESSARY SEX LIKE MY GOOOOOD WHYYYYYYYY DID YOU HAVE TO PUT TWO GODDAMN SCENES OF HER FUCKING, ITS JUST NOT NECESSARY LIKE MANNNN) mostly the last sequence with the thing
Like uugghhhhhh the tunnel resembling the pathway (idk the word) that a baby is born from or the full scene that follows of the thing copying her and throwing itself on the ground
MAN THE IDK WHAT THAT WAS THAT LOOKED LIKE A CALEIDOSCOPE???? JUST *MWA* CHEFS KISS
Absolute perfection all around of everything turning into one because of the presence of the thing
Man only if i understood what they were saying fr i think that it would be a 10/10 fr
Oh yeah and the title drop was cool asf
OH OH AND THE FACELESS WOMAN? SAYING THAT THE THING WAS INSIDE HER WANTING TO BE BORN? JUST GOOOOOOODDDDDD AMAZING
Fuck me man she really dont miss on the reccomendations, another great one fr fr
This book is blowing my mind

ok so this nearly took 5 hours to make and I feel so fuckign proud of it however, this is going to be one of the 4 people or more I haven’t decided that’s going to be put in here so it’s going to get bigger the more I add but I’ve had some serious art blocks and so now I am thinking of doing an AU for Slenderverse. What if we combined some of the book and movie and added a bit of the lore into an Annihilation AU. In which everyone who died within Marble Hornets, EverymanHYBRID, MLA0, and Tribe Twelve came back but along with the people that are alive are teleported to an uncharted area within a sector that is called by the government Area X. In which the Operater(The Admin, The Tall Stick in the Mud.) has finally started making his presence known as more than an urban, suburban myth based off of a photo editing contest. However, the Operater takes the 4 channels into the area as a way to lure them towards him and towards the Ark as this continues things slowly start to mutate more and more into something that is straight out of a nightmare land, once the group reach the Operater they realize that they are more things that the entities HABIT, Observer and the Operater have been hiding from them.
thinking abt area x again... inspired by jeff vandermeer's annihilation (2014)

my dealer: got some straight gas this strain is called ‘the southern reach’ youll be zonked out of your gourd beyond what any man can bear, but whether it decays under the earth or above on green fields, or out to sea or in the very air, all shall come to revelation, and to revel, in the knowledge of the strangling fruit
me: yeah whatever. I don’t feel shit
5 minutes later: dude I swear I just saw a rift in reality in the tunnel tower

"Almost Familiar" (Annihilation)
Digital collage made in GIMP with stock images from Pexels.com. Based on a scene in the book "Annihilation", part of the "Southern Reach" triology-soon-to-be-tetralogy by Jeff Vandermeer.
I was kinda thrilled that making collages enabled me to re-create this specific scene from the book, even if this piece looks and feels just as eerie to me as reading the scene did. This was more of a quick one, but I still like it very much.
I have made a few other collages that dip into the same uncanny metamorphosis-type entities and imagery as this one that I will hopefully post soon as well.
