On Thursday, May 28th, 3 days after George Floyd was murdered by the police, I watched as 2 police officers on motorcycles pull over a car in front of my pharmacy. I didn’t think much until I saw the driver.

She was black. And she had a kid with her.

They stayed there for at least 45 minutes, maybe an hour. I’ve been pulled over before and each encounter wouldn’t last more than 15-20 minutes. I don’t know what was happening, but I was scared for the lady, for her kid, for whatever the police was going to do.

They eventually left without incidence, but I can’t imagine what that woman and her kid must have been feeling. A traffic stop should not be a question of life or death. I don’t know what I would’ve done if the police escalated the situation. I’d like to say I would’ve spoken up but would I have? My introvert personality would protest, my fear for my own well being might have stopped me. But as I watch our country burn and the president fan the flames with his tyrannical rhetoric, I recognize my privilege, even as a minority, and being introverted is no excuse to stand by as my black brothers and sisters get murdered simply for existing.

I am not usually one for prayers, but now, I pray for the safety of those protesting, risking their lives during this pandemic to try and get those with power and privilege to listen. I pray for the small businesses who are already struggling in this economy. And I pray that something will change. Because it’s insanity that it hasn’t and the same thing keeps happening over and over and over again.

I have also donated to NorthStar Health Collective and National Lawyers Guild - Mass Defense Fund to help provide medical supplies and legal support to the protestors. Please consider donating to them or any of the organizations working to help this cause if you can. Stream this YouTube video without skipping ads if you can’t. Sign the petition. And most importantly, please. Fucking. VOTE! Don’t waste your chance to truly enact change.

I am not black, but I see you.

I am not black, but I hear you.

I am not black, but I mourn with you.

I am not black, but I will fight with you.

WAYS TO SUPPORT/BE AN ALLY

Here is a compilation of places to donate (IF you can, simply reblogging and sharing this can help) and petition to sign. I found these websites and organizations on twitter.

DONATIONS

THE MINNESOTA  FREEDOM FUND: Donate to this to collect funds to pay jail bonds for the protesters who get arrested.

BLACK LIVES MATTER: An organization fighting for the BLM movement. Donate if you can.

BLACK VISIONS MN: an organization that is led by Black, Queer and Trans people. Donate if you can.

NAACP Legal Defense Fund: Fights for the overall equality fight. Donate if you can.

PETITIONS

Willie Simmons has spent 38 years in prison for a $9 robbery. He had two prior convictions similar to robbery that he served time for. He was prosecuted under the Alabama Habitual Offender law and was given a life sentence for his third strike - stealing 9 (NINE) dollars. Sign his petition.

Breonna Taylor was killed by police who were conducting an UNANNOUNCED drug raid, where they gave no request to enter. They bashed her door and entered, shooting her EIGHT times. They were in the WRONG HOUSE.

George Floyd was killed by a police officer who knelt on his neck and suffocated him to death, after George pleaded with the officer and told him he couldn’t breathe. The officer had pulled him from where he sat in his car on an alleged FORGERY. You can also text “FLOYD” to 55156

ARREST THE OFFICERS WHO KILLED GEORGE FLOYD: The main police officer who murdered George is being kept in PROTECTIVE CUSTODY. You probably have heard he was arrested, but this is NOT TRUE. He was placed under PROTECTIVE custody because of the riots and “threats” on his life.

If you know of ANY other organizations or petitions, PLEASE ADD TO THIS LIST. The fight for justice doesn’t end here, it will never end. Especially when the president of the United States calls white supremacists good people and protesters of a mans death THUGS. USE YOUR VOICE. NO JUSTICE, NO PEACE. FUCK COPS. FUCK “BLUE LIVES”. ALL BLACK LIVES MATTER!

A Frustrated Rant

Most people have been hurt by the death of a loved one. However, observing death from the stability of your own home or behind a screen is a different experience. Especially, if it is a person you did not know in your day-to-day life.        Empathy is huge when hearing about the experiences of others. To be able to hear their story and understand their emotions and reactions. As well as this, the ability to not downplay or undermine their feelings toward an event is important.        Re-examining the concept of death: many understand that, after someone passes away, grief affects people differently because death isn’t just “they’re dead” and moving on. It is realizing that you will be continuing your life without this person. Whatever role they played in your life is now empty and unfilled. And, if they were important to you, you will want to make sure their memory is preserved in a way that lines up with who they were as a human being.        Now, I’m sure you have someone in mind. Let’s take that person and imagine that they were taken away from you by someone who shouldn’t have even been interacting with them. Now, you are faced with the challenge of getting their killer held accountable. After months and months of trying- and even gaining media attention in the process- their killer is not charged.        What would you do? Would you be satisfied with the lack of justice? Or would you keep fighting, so people know that what happened to your loved one is unacceptable? You would pick the second one because you know that no one should have to experience the same feeling of loss and frustration as you.        If you think that the scenario above is about a single circumstance, this has happened to so many people. And that is horrible. It is devastating to see people siding with killers over and over again. Understand that the things you see on social media are things that are affecting real people.        Stop undermining the pain of others. Quit turning other people’s pain into the butt of a joke. Be kind. Be empathetic. And get people the justice they deserve.

Today, Breonna's Law Was Passed. This Is A Step In The Right Direction. Next One Is To Hold People Responsible

Today, Breonna's law was passed. This is a step in the right direction. Next one is to hold people responsible for her death and arrest her murderers and everyone involved in the attempt at cover-up.

I had legitimate tears in my eyes reading what Kenneth, her boyfriend, had to to through after Breonna's murder. That man was being framed for something he didn't do, all after losing his most important person.

It was that easy to jail and charge him on false claims. Why are her murderers still walking free and an innocent man spent time in jail because of a false testimony?

That's time in his life he will never get back, but you know what he'll also never get back and that's also directly on the police? Breonna. And most importantly, Breonna had her life taken from her over a police "mistake". It's time to see the culprits punished.

Breonna Taylor deserves justice.

one of breonna taylor's murderers was charged with wanton endangerment for firing into her neighbors' apartments. not for murderering a young woman in her home. but for property damage. no other charges were filed.

if you can, now would be a good time to donate to the Louisville bail fund. hundreds of protesters are currently marching with a long day ahead.

black lives matter.
