Dining Room Enclosed in San Diego
Mid-sized minimalist dining room image with white walls and a plywood floor
One of my favorite things I’ve ever painted
16" x 20" acrylic painting of Iron Man.
My cousin commissioned me to make this painting for him. This was made with acrylic paint on a 24" x 30" canvas.
I have a TikTok video to go with this if you want to check it out.
A canvas board painting I did a while ago which I never took good photos of. I’ve improved a lot from when I painted this but I want to post it for cataloging sake.
I still like the background I did on this painting. I did a real good job of keeping all the colours real sharp.
Finished a painting I sketched out a while ago. Tried to paint much looser than I usually do so I didn’t sketch out exactly. Instead I sketched out in paint as I went along, pretty nice to just paint something random for a bit.
Just finished my grad show (only a year late) having everything laid out looks so good!
I’m very proud of all the progress I was able to make over three years while at HCA. Way back in 2017 I was totally different in my illustrations and attitude, hopefully I keep improving in the future as much.
I had the largest spread in in the illustration room which I find pretty funny. I’d blame all my big ass prints. I wasn’t able to hang my banner over my work but it looks good enough ;)
Transcript of my show’s blurb under the cut if you want to read it.

“Madeleines and Latte’s Sweet Adventure” - Children's Non-Fiction Book Proposal
For this project I created a proposal for a children's non-fiction book centering around sweet foods from around the world. Each chapter would focus around a different country's food with illustrations of traditional holidays and cuisine.
To complete this project I created one sample chapter for the proposed book around Germany’s cuisine. These illustrations set up the general flow and presentation I would imagine for the rest of the book. I also designed two characters to explore the world and give context and immersion into the scenes.
I wanted to create a non-fiction book which I would be interested in as a child. For this book I looked at how to present this information in an interesting and immersive way so that the reader would be better able to engage in foreign cultures.
Throughout the process of designing aspects of the book I determined to break from stereotypes and conventions which I found to be unnecessarily restricting. A couple of examples were overly gender coding characters and presenting intrestets in sweets as a negative thing.
While stereotypes and conventions can be very useful when constructing a story (especially for younger audiences) I feel that leaning too far into these stifles some artists' abilities and can negatively affect a child's view of the world. Allowing more variety in the presentation of characters or viewpoints of the world would only benefit a child’s development even in media which does not focus around these breaks from convention.
With this book I would hope to create stronger bonds with other cultures through food and genuine interest in each other's cultures. This first book is focused on sweet food however if I were given the opportunity to make more I would look at savoury meals, celebratory meals, or drinks.
