I haven't yap about demigod hecate willy wonka allegations in a hot minute... but I don't really think all of the willies would have the same godly parents. so here's the list of all willies and their godly parents YIPPPPEEEEEEE :DD

canon willy: apollo (can you think of something else)

1971 willy: hades (idk he's giving me the hades creep)

2005 willy: hecate (he talks like pjo apollo though what the flip chat)

2023 willy: tyche (bro is NOT son of athena)

2010 willy: iris

2013 willy: hermes (because...)

damn there's a lot of willy actually from the musical, but I forgot... (because 2013 is my favourite catcf musical) can we agree he's most likely to be hephaestus son

Hello All! Im Reopening My CATCF Roleplay Server!

Hello all! I’m reopening my CATCF Roleplay server!

So we do have a base plot, read down below, but we also have many Roleplay rooms where two or more can create an idea and roll with it.

Basic Plot:

Instead of the children being the ones to suffer at the hands of Wonka’s torture devices, it was their parents who had a cruel dose of reality handed to them.

The losers of the contest were asked to stay by Wonka’s side or to go with their now deformed parents. All of them chose to stay and live within the factory to become better.

Now, as adults, the five of them reign over the Chocolate Factory with ease and precision, Wonka’s candy more popular than ever before.

Charlie is the face of the company and head Chocolatier, Veruca handles the budgets and is a sponsor thanks to her father’s business, Violet is head Marketing and Sales due to being able to crush the competition, Mike Teavee works on maintaining the technological parts of the factory such as the TV Room and is the first person called when there is a malfunction that the Oompa Loompas can’t fix, and, of course, Augustus Gloop is the main taste tester and with his help, a lot of new flavours have been created and some have been discontinued due to his input.

As they run the factory smoothly, using their talents to their advantage, they happily live their lives together and enjoy each day they can be themselves and cultivate their passions.

Now we do have some base rules:

- please only apply for a character you can actually play

- While these are characters with a certain personality, appearance, etc. you can make them your own as long as you respect the original

- Please use 3rd person/ narrator perspective and paragraph formatting when roleplaying

And these are the characters you can chose from

Do you think that Charlie and the chocolate factory is the most underrated musical? I think it’s pretty good and pays nods to the original book.

Of the ones we've seen? Absolutely.

I think a lot of people dismiss the source material as they grow up- 'it's a horror story for children'- forgetting that it's as much wary warning to adults as it is kids. And I think this lead to a lot of people seeing a Musical version of this as nothing more than 'a kid's play'.

But oh god, anyone who's seen the musical... [insert nervous laughter] knows that's not the case.

--

For context, since versions differ: We saw the original West-End run in its final year, with Jonathan Slinger as Wonka. Which... whereas Hodge went more book-Wonka, and Jennings had this almost uncaring selfishness, Slinger's Wonka was unhinged. He was the perfect mix of 'I am genuinely terrified for my own safety, but if I don't follow this man, I will be all-consumingly curious for the rest of my life'.

He had the same vibe as creatures of myth that would lure people to their demise. You could tell me Slinger's Wonka was a fae, and I could easily believe it. You would have to have the willpower of the gods to not follow him into the dark.

I say all this, because I think a lot of adaptations ignore the cruelty of Willy Wonka. There's a cognitive bias in the story, as it's told from a star-struck child's view of a man who can do no wrong; and let's be honest, Charlie shrugs off trauma after trauma in that factory because of it. But the musical's Wonka makes choices and comments that just feel more true to the character?

The musical felt more adult, like it understood the assignment in a way no other adaptation did. It understood how- mind the language- utterly fucked up the whole tour is, it understood that Wonka is Ambiguously Evil, it understood that it is essentially a horror story mixed with a Wonderlandian Tale. And it didn't shy away from that.

And as someone who, as a child, was utterly confused on how no-one else saw these things of the story... it came out as, easily, our favourite version of the story altogether.

Perhaps it's because we've since grown up, perhaps it's due to our *ahem* personal biases within the system (see: our introject of Wonka was our primary persecutor during childhood), but the take not sugarcoating the whole story as 'look at the wonderful Willy Wonka!' and seeing it for what it is, was so utterly refreshing.

I wish more people had seen it. I wish Jonathan Slinger's run was recorded.

--

It wasn't perfect though. The first act is slow, but we do like that it took more time to explore Charlie as a character (we also still prefer that Wonka turns up at the end of act 1; something we know BW!CatCF changed).

The kids also felt incredibly flat. I think Charlie was a strong character, but all of the children in that version felt quite bland and too generalised? There was no subtlety to them, and they were incredibly in-your-face- which I guess is closer to the book, but if you grew up with the 71! & 05! versions, it's just a bit of non-taste.

Also 'Vidiots' is a boomer song about 'Technology Bad', and I know Mike Teavee is essentially that whole concept (even though that boy is obviously just undiagnosed ADHD, and hoo boy we have thoughts about that) but that song is very out of touch and could do with being removed or potentially taken from a more sympathetic angle. The only good thing that came out of it was Doris Teavee Jam Session lessss goooo baybee. hi we love west-end mrs. teavee if you could not tell, she's adorable and relatable when you're hitting 30 and stressed all the time.

That's all we can think of off the top of our head, but tl;dr: absolutely.

DID Introjects, Not Fanart Reblogs Are Fine
DID Introjects, Not Fanart Reblogs Are Fine

DID introjects, not fanart ▸ reblogs are fine

Some sketches of our Mike & his mother, Dolly.

These two are a great example of the healing that's finally been happening within the Factory Cluster, and it warms my heart to see. Dolly- Mrs. Teavee, sourced from the musical- unfortunately lost her son in the tour; she's been so scared of the whole factory, that besides one or two outer-factory trips, she's refused to leave her room for years.

So when Mike- sourced from the first movie, but fused with the second- reawoke, now a young adult, she was quite nervous. She didn't want to see him because it hurt too much at it not being her Mike. But he sort of persisted in that mischievous way he does, and barriers were broken, and she adopted him as her own son because it felt right. It was a form of acceptance for the mind to heal.

Dolly used to refuse to even talk about her son, but I'm allowed to say all this here because she's personally spoken about the whole thing on stream, which is... something we didn't think would ever happen. She's healed a lot, and she's helped Mike a lot with his own anxiety around the Factory. Sadly she still won't leave her room, but it's small steps.

Perhaps a controversial opinion, but having finally drawn the West-End Oompa Loompa...

Not a fan of the design that much.

The actual FX of the outfits are fantastic- that's such a Great way to get around the height issue- but their actual designs don't really stand out in a way you'd expect from an Oompa Loompa. 1971? Iconic. 2005? Very memorable. Musical? honestly quite forgettable. The same goes for the book too: despite CatCF being our lifetime special interest, I had to google it to remember what they looked like.

The musical feels like it tried to keep its designs closer to the book, but... maybe it shouldn't have? We love Quentin Blake's illustrations- an English treasure is he- but other than Willy Wonka himself, none of his CatCF designs are that memorable.

It might just be an unpopular personal opinion- although we did specialise in character design/concept art during our art degree, if that gives us any credibility- but sometimes, when the source material is lacking, it's better to diverge and play about and be inventive, than glue yourself to the idea of faithfulness.

there's extra effort into today's catcfember because we're at a convention tomorrow and probably won't have time to do it?? i dunno

maybe we'll finally listen to view from here and doodle something. Like, I know Atticus has wanted to listen to the OBC, but I think he's been waiting for the Prime Slime Time, yknow?

he's gonna have thoughts; there's a lotta changes he hates in theory, and i've never seen a person hate a design with so much scorn as he hates Ethel Teavee lmaoo

also unrelated to the above, but if anyone asks: my full name is now Mycicle Twitch Dot Television. Stream knows what's up. Thanks chat.~

What if Oompa Loompas were ghosts for a non-replica, of Charlie and the chocolate factory musical? Think about it, it could be creepy but awesome to see how that is handle.

The idea of the Oompa Loompa being ghosts... my mind immediately goes to a darker, more gothic-horror-fantasy take on CatCF (PotO's designs come to mind). My heart loves this.

The Factory's set up in some old refurbished castle, the tickets are sent out due to an anxious obsession with his own mortality, Wonka's design probably looks like something straight out of @rknchan's sketchbook... that was partially a joke, but there's a little pair of glasses she reblogged a while back that he'd absolutely wear. also i think it's high-time we have a poc Willy Wonka, so this one is.

Anyhow I digress- the question at hand: There would be two ways to implement ghost Oompa Loompa, in my eyes:

The Oompa Loompas started exactly as in the original: uncomfortably hired into indentured labour brought over from a foreign country to work at his factory. However, due to whatever circumstances, this does not work out. The Oompa Loompas all eventually pass away. But this is a gothic horror, so now your factory's got ghosts. Sorry fam, that's just the rules of a gothic-horror. Wonka's got guilt, but he's grown accustomed to it. They're just there. But they also make him feel eternally more lonely, and also now he's down a ton of workers and he's not doing so hot.

2. You go full-on Leeds Revival with the Oompa Loompas, cut out all that problematic shit, and these things are just... straight up ghosts. They were there when he moved in and they're chill; some of them whisper him ideas in the night, and some of them make his life hell. Due to the way ghosts work in this universe and because I feel oompa loompas always need a unified design they all sort of look like these faceless pale apparitions with no discernible features besides the occasional hint as to how they died.

God, the set and costume design for this would be amazing. Why isn't this a thing. now i want to sketch this.

How would you handle the choreography for Auf wiedersehen Augustus gloop from Charlie and the chocolate factory the musical?

Oh we have two left-feet and a bad memory, so we couldn't even tell you the coreography for the current musical versions of AwAG.

Not having a 'chocolate lagoon' or a tiny hose-sized pipe would be a good start for whatever's going on there though.

Despite the other art, our musical wonka isn't a shitpost.

He's pretty complex, we just haven't posted about him yet. But he came about from the thought of "why are all Wonkas tall and thin? not all of them are going to have the metabolism of the gods." So suddenly our brain does its fixation thing and it turns out it was actually an alter we were taking inspiration from and we have this fabulous, complicated, messed up fellow owning our attention. This Wonka (He/She/It) is very prone to stress & spirals, and quite often finds himself obsessing over his own mortality. The way she presents herself on the tour, you'd mostly think she's just a bit of an asshole... until you realise she alliterates more when she's stressed, she keeps popping these little medicine candies in her mouth, occasionally she makes mildly concerning comments about death and temptation, and there's a Lazurus Room in the basement. "Memento Mori, Charlie".

Closing the factory was an overnight choice after she became paranoid that the world was out to get her. The tour was a choice after she obsessed over her own death during a sleepless spiral. This Wonka doesn't even want an heir, but it's yet another backup plan for when the night finally claims her. So he sets up a tour, and he trials them to the ultimate test: Temptation.

And when all is said and done, months into moving into the factory, Charlie learns the truth...

He looks to his new mentor, and he asks "You planned it, didn't you?" And she replies. "The hand of fate needs an arm, and I simply volunteered."

And that's not even getting into all the little details, nor the other characters: with such hits as Esports Streamer Mike Teavee only got his ticket cause 'Chat said it would be PogChamp', Tiktoker Violet & her Less Successful Tiktoker mom, Charlie Needs Therapy because his Mentor Refuses Therapy, Molly Bucket trying to protect her son and Accidentally Falling in Love With A Very Broken Person (aka 'Mr. Wonka is your dad now, Charlie'), the Oompa Loompa Night Shift, and Also Miranda Is Here And Wonka Pushed Her In. we love him a lot
