I have a head cannon that took place in Season 1, where Ash and Grey would have been rivals for the queen. They had messy quarrels and probably a brutal sword fight. But before they could actually could kill each other, Phipps stopped them and then yelled at them for about an hour straight.

If Charles Grey had a S/O, he would be extremely affectionate towards them and be completely fine with PDA. He would kiss her on the forehead in public to endless amounts of hugs to tight hand holding. Idk why, but I feel he would.
Double Charles Headcanon
I headcanon that Charles Grey is a premature child, explaining why he’s around the same age as Phipps and is very short, with a boyish figure. When he went to fencing matches when he was at the Weston College, his classmates would tease him for being so short, Phipps being the only one who isn’t mean to him. They grow up together as friends and get along pretty well as work partners for Queen Victoria.
