Okay, hear me out here
It's Julie and the Phantoms
But it's Australian
I'm thinking too much these days, but if you listen to the lyrics of "You got nothing to lose", there's a line like "Listen to the words a wise man said; he said "Covington, I got an offer that you can't refuse""
This could be a reference to when Caleb first became a ghost and how he got into the whole ghost club scene. How he got the same offer that he's giving the boys from another ghost.
As a firm believer that no one is born evil (some exceptions absolutely do occur), I think there's a lot more to Caleb's character than let's on.
I have two theories as of now.
1. He could be out for revenge.Ā
This could be his āmodifiedā unfinished business. He could have gotten into the deal himself centuries ago and heās been looking for someone to pass the deal onto so that he himself can pass on. It might seem selfish but really itās only human. Self-preservation is the only way to survive, right? Not that Caleb has that problem anymore but you get the point. So really, I donāt think heās evil in the way heās perceived.
2. He genuinely thinks what heās doing is right.
This theory comes from theĀ āno one is born evilā belief. If you think about it, what heās doing could absolutely, in the right context not seem as terrible. Heās offering the boys a secure way to keep doing music together forever, and be seen by actual people. His motivation methods are extremely wrong but you know, we donāt know how long heās been dead and his perception of society might be so incredibly ancient that the only way of negotiation he knows of is through violence. But like I said, I donāt think heās necessarily a bad or evil person.Ā
So, in conclusion, I donāt think Caleb is the villain weāre all seeing him as. Heās desparate. Heās lonely. Heās probably bored out of his witts to be honest. Imagine playing the same song over and over again. As a musician myself, and performer to some extent (eh, mostly school related concerts), I can absolutely see the joy in performing like that. Hell, I would do anything to get to perform like that. But for all eternity? Come on!
Personally, I think Caleb is just a bit old school and he needs someone to guide him through the improved ways of the world
Thank you for coming to my TED talk. I hope you have a wonderful day and happy holidays!
Now I suddenly remembered that in "Julie and the Phantoms" there are three actors from "Descendants": Jadah Marie (Flynn/Celia), Booboo Stewart (Willie/Jay) and Cheyenne Jackson (Caleb/Hades). What am I getting at?
I had a feeling that someone was missing. I'm currently rewatching the "Julie e Os Fantasmas" episodes (still infinitely grateful to the authors of the English subtitles) and mentally comparing the two series. Yes, I still love Daniel more than Luke, but I decided to think about it more. Daniel, or rather Bruno Sigrist, has brown eyes and black curly hair. Cameron Boyce also has brown eyes and black curly hair. Yes, I thought it would be interesting if he played Daniel (if the character hadn't changed in the remake)! I'm sure he could have played up both the sarcasm and the tenderness towards Julie in a stunning way.
For some reason I also thought that Luke could have been played by Mitchell Hope or Ross Lynch. Not so much because of appearance, but because of character.
