do you have any favorite Helena moments :D
OK OK SO
Huntress (1989) Issue #4
This whole issue holds a special place in my heart, but this moment in particular sealed the deal of my love for Helena. One thing about Helena is that she is stubborn and can get too focused on her goals, but her compassion and need to help people always outwin.
Huntress (1989) Issue #6
Another top-tier issue. See, another thing I love about Helena is that she isn't a symbol of justice like Batman is. She is, as she says here, her own person. With hate and grudges against people, and love and care for others. Killing people isn't a matter of justice, it is a matter of dispelling a nightmare from her life who is about to claim her as his. It is standing up for yourself when no one else does.
Just.... read Huntress (1989). It is an amazing work.
Huntress: Cry For Blood Issue #1
AKA one of the many times Helena tells Batman to fuck off <3.
Robin (1993) Annual 6
Just.... this whole issue. It's so fucking funny. Helena and Tim ride horses into the sunset and make cowboy puns. It all reads like a very low rated western movie. Also the cowboy Nightwing ripoff. Please. Everytime I read it I laugh.
Batman: Shadow Of The Bat Issue #83
Helena's debut as The Bat my beloved! Batman is gone so she goes out to protect the city on her own... not as Huntress, but wearing the Bat Symbol. She is not Batman, she is more like a physical manifestation of everything the Bat Symbol stands for and what it means to the people of Gotham. Because Helena as no other knows how important masks and symbols are, especially during No Man's Land.
Birds of Prey Issue #86
There are soooo many things I love about this. Teacher!Helena. The way her care, compassion and maternal ways are shown as strength. Helena's empathy and shared pain with Ricky, how she knows exactly how the mob can destroy lives. That in order to help people, you've got to both listen and be willing to take action. Both of these go hand in hand and Helena is one of my favourite characters because she is able to do both so well in regards of those she helps.
No Man's Land
"Huntress' Last Stand". I think about this moment so much. She suffered, she protected, she held her ground. She is a true hero, standing up for the innocents. She was all alone, no back-up, and didn't believe anyone was coming from her. She is willing to fight to the last moment, even if she might end up dead. She is one of the most resilient characters I know. Also. Look how badass she is!!!
I'm sure there are many, many more great Helena moments I missed </3, but here are some I could think of :D. Planning to read some more of Helena's crossover appearance in other books, so I might make a Part 2!
Helena Bertineli ran so that the fandom could disrespect her and make Jason Tood walk. The absolute disrespect.
You headcanon Jason Todd to become an English teacher if given the chance? Helena is an English teacher.
You have Jason Todd fight for woman and children? Helena was doing that first.
You write Jason as being connected but outside the batfamily, where there are constant fights about morality of killing and the ways of being a vigilante? Helena was doing that first.
You have Jadon and Tim being wierd sibling dynamic despite orders from Batman or the others? Tim was one of the people who first worked with Helena despite what Batman said and they have a funny sibling like relationship. He never gave up on her, and saw the best in her.
You have Jason with religious sometimes Catholic guilt in your headcannons? Helena is Catholic and carries a lot of that guilt.
You want the cool anti hero? Helena Bertinelli.
My point is not to just go hate on fanon Jadon, don't mistake me, it can be fun, and multiple people can take up the same roles, but I wish the fandom would do more for the gals.
At least look up Helena, maybe read a couple of her comics because she has an impact.
Just Helena deserves more love than she has been given.
respectfully, no one cares.
Respectfully, you're incorrect because I am a someone, and I care.
Go to hell anon cause I care!
Also I really want to get into Huntress and all her story but the whole comic universe in DC feels very intimidating to me. I've read a couple shorter stories of other characters but was wondering where I should start with her.
Background context on what I know or don't know about her: I don't know anything about her backstory except for vague connections w the batfam and Bruce. The only media I've consumed of her is from Justice League Unlimited (the animation series)
Now that that's out of the way. Where do you think I should start with her comics?
Hello Inkreads!
I was attempting to put together a complete reading guide for you and everyone else, seeing as there are no complete guides for Helena Bertinelli online right now, and the most comprehensive one still has things out of order, messes things up, and doesn't have the Rebirth stuff. This ask inspired me to take that information and try to put the info from the two most complete reading guides together and create something better.
It is taking me longer than I would like, and I didn't want to leave you hanging when it came to getting information on how to read Helena's comics. So I am going to give you a quick run down of some important storylines and comics you should read for the character, and I will also include the links to the incomplete reading lists if that is something more preferable to you, and other ways you can find information on her.
This list and the website I was and am using for my readthrough were given to me by my friend @gretaghostgirl. (Sorry for tagging wanted to given you credit)
So quick note on the picture. You are going to want to read Blunt Trauma before you read No Man's Land.
This is just a list of her main appearances and not her guest staring, and cameos so you might miss some stuff, but this will give you the run down on her story before New 52.
I don't have a list for you on New 52 stuff, or Rebirth, but I can show you the way I keep track of those eras of comics.
League Of Comic Geeks is where I track my comic collection and the comics I have read. It is both an app and website. It will keep track of not just DC but Marvel and other comic companies.
I will be using the app version to show how it can be done. I have purple arrows pointing to things, because purple was the color it was on, but also Huntress themed.
So in the app you have a homepage that looks like this [Here is mine]
Once you click on the search bar your going end up on a page that has this and some more info [I cut down some of the pictures to save space.]
Type in Huntress
Now that you have a search you can look at series, specific issues, and characters. For what we want to do click characters.
Now you are going to have a page with all characters that have used the name Huntress. The Huntress we want for the reading list I gave you is Prime Earth. [But the Helena from Justice Lesgue Unlimited is Earth-12 (DCAU) If that also interests you.] So click Prime Earth Huntress.
You should now be at a page that looks like this. You get some basic information, other personas the character has used, and you can go to Titles, or Timeline. For what we want click Timeline.
You should end up with a list of dates like this. On the right side of the year heading you should see a number. That indicates how many comics/trades/omnis she has been in that year. You can click the number to minimize the year. It can make searching quicker.
I minimized down to 2011 which is right before FlashPoint happened giving us New 52. From here you can scroll. However it doesn't go all the way to Huntress (1989) #1 and some other stuff may be missing because this is only the Huntress version of Helena Bertinelli stuff. IE you won't get most of No Man's Land or her N52 stuff because she uses different names.
To get rid of this problem you can type Helena Bertinelli in the search bar instead of Huntress.
Same steps apply, and you'll get more of her appearances!
Now for links to websites to help you on your reading journey!
1. This website is the huge reading list I am using that is incomplete, and still being ordered around, but is a huge help. [Link]
2. This is the Ao3 link to how to read No Man's Land. No Man's Land is hugely important for multiple characters, and Helena plays a big role in the story, so instead of nitpicking her issues I would recommend reading the whole story if you can. The first chapter is just a rundown of events, but the second chapter is the reading order. [Link]
The Ao3 user who made the rundown and list is @havendance on Tumblr. (Sorry for the tagging, giving credit)
If you have any more questions reach out, and I will help to the best of my ability. And I hope this was helpful in some ways to you.

Helena Bertinelli/Huntress Reading List/Completionist Guide
Helena Bertinelli is the Huntress of Prime Earth. She has existed as a character since 1989, and has appeared in her own series as well as multiple other series throughout the years. Most well known for being a Bird of Prey, she has a long history that tends to be hard to track. Instead of hunting down all of the issues, this guide has every one of her appearances in the attempt to follow her chronologically, but where her movements couldn’t be followed the natural passing of time was used to follow the story.
This is both a reading list and a completionist guide. This means there will be times when the issue only has a cameo of Helena. For a casual reader this list may be a little much. If that is the case click [here] for a shorter list that can get you started on Helena.
Moving onto Content Warnings.
There will be mentions and depictions of Sexual Assault of Adults and Minors, Slavery, PTSD, and Murder. These are some of the big Content Warnings. That being said let’s get started.

To the Helena Bertinelli fans I hope you enjoy!
@inkareds I finished the complete guide if you want to check it out.
If I made any mistakes or forgot something leave a comment, or send me a message. I tried to include everything, but I could have messed up. I will also try to update this as new Huntress stuff comes out, so the list may grow.

Some of my favourite panels from the four part 1994/1995 Batman vs. Predator mini crossover. Some panels I like the dialog some I just like the artwork.

Weird question, but I haven't read a lot of Helena Bertinelli comics (kinda nervous to since I was a fan of Earth 2 Helena, I like the JSA) and was wondering what you meant by her being a victim of CSA because I have never heard that be mentioned for, I tried googling but didn't find anything.
Hey its completely okay. So here are some panels I had saved that should explain it a bit.
TW: On screen depiction and implied CSA.
Huntress #1 (1989)
Skipping to when Helena comes back home
Then, in Huntress #1 (1994)
I really don't want to have to reread every Huntress issue to find if it's more clearly stated, but it is heavily implied and depicted as such. [I'm not in the best headspace go digging for more]
7, 12, and 24 for helena bertinelli?
Helena Bertinelli
7. A quote of them that you remember?
Kid: Do you have super strength?
Helena: No.
Kid: Are you invulnerable?
Helena: I'm afraid not.
Kid: Then how are you gonna save him? What are you gonna do?
Helena: I'm going to do everything I'm capable of doing!

Helena: Hypocrite

Helena: Jabberwook
12. Sexuality headcanon?
I'm of two minds that exist hand in hand. Demisexual, Demiromantic, Bisexual. She wouldn't use those words for it, though. She knows she's queer and Bi, but doesn't exactly want to dig any deeper.
Also just realized the flag colors for all those identities (except for the demiromantic green) have matched her costume at some point throughout her history. No serious it matches.
24. What do you think is a secret they have that they never told anyone?
I think about this one a lot, actually. So far up to my reading, she doesn't talk explicitly about memories she has with her immediate family.. I think she keeps those to herself. She talks about her family history, but that's stuff that reasonably anyone could find out, but the personal stuff? She keeps those to herself. The moments where her mother brushes her hair or would pick out a dress, the moments at meals where they were almost normal. What she named her toys. She also keeps all the memories of her brother to herself.
She also keeps a lot of stuff private about her faith. Sure, she talks about it and devoted it with Artemis, but it's another thing for herself. Something that can't be taken away. Her family is dead, and a vigilante identity can be stripped, but her faith is her own. Even in the moments where her faith won't allow her in, it's still hers and hers alone.
I think she also stays quite on just how lonely she can be. How she doesn't have a family, she only started making friends later on, how that friendship can feel conditional, how separated she can be from people. It's never quite there, but still there. She loves working on her own, being herself. She does it and loves it. But sometimes it hits her just how alone she is. Moments where she remembered she was the only one in her building, using recorded conversation to fill up the empty space.
I also think she keeps quite on just how much she cares for the younger vigilantes. Robin and Spoiler, to be exact. Now, in canon so far in my reading, Huntress and Spoiler have met and teamed up 1.5 times. I think despite that very short list, Huntress cares a lot. She doesn't want another kid in a costume, as seen from Blunt Trauma. She's a teacher, she cares about her students, and she cares about the kids she saves. She goes out of her way to try to help kids even if logically she knows it's doomed. She doesn't want more kids going down the vigilante path. She sees Spoiler, and she hopes that it's not too late to turn her away from vigilantism even though she knows it won't work because she cares. She doesn't want anyone else to become a part of this life. Robin (Tim) she has a much longer history. She would never admit how much she wants to be an older sister, how she feels like an older sibling when around him. She won't admit it but she's proud of him.
She won't ever admit, not even on her death bed, just how much Batman's rejection into the main circle hurt. Sure, people know it. But not how deep it was.
