Grieving (Sketchtember 2024 - Day 12)
[Rara Avis]
Choi: I promise, Izzy and I didn't intend Day 12's prompt to bring twice as many child deaths in the pictures. But I do gotta say... I'm glad that we're really showing off the "dark" in dark fantasy in our works now ✨🌑✨
The royal siblings Goldie and Sand grew up in happiness, preparing for a life of responsibility and duty, until the assassination of their entire family line. Goldie (26) and Sand (23) found themselves orphaned, grieving, and wandering into the wild countryside. This particular scene is timed around 2-3 weeks since their loss, after they encountered a mysterious scoundrel, whom they contracted to lead them the way to a remote dwarven stronghold.
When everyone turned to sleep that night, Goldie was left alone with her grief while carrying the weight of the last remaining royal bloodline. You can only imagine the ruminating it would take for her to then see a hallucination of her dead baby brother in the mirror.
And it doesn't get easier from there.

Korugues are the main enemy types encountered during the game. They are an assortment of races and cultures from all over the flamebearer empire, united by a common hatred of their oppressors.
From left to right: Hills, river, forest, sea, plains, frost One aspect of the story that I`m pretty invested in is the contrast between how kind and motherly Jupe behaves toward her family, especially her children, and how little she respects and values anyone else. I expect that this will make her a lot more unlikeable than the usual protagonist, but i think that creates a lot of interesting opportunities for the story.

The chieftain of a small nameless village and first boss of the game. She originates from the wind korugues, a race of nomadic giants, now rare and dispersed across the fyreland. Like many of her kind, she despises flamebearers and would rather die than concede to their whims. Neither her wits nor formidable strength should be underestimated.

Notes: Wind korugues will incorporate the clothes of the culture they meet amongst their own. The chieftain herself can be seen wearing clothes and jewels referencing hill, river, forest, plain, and some yet unnamed korugues cultures.
My elves might be unconventional, but I made them long-nosed/horned bugs. They look mostly human, but are pale, have long noses and ear cannals instead of ears.
Anatomically they have an exoskeleton instead of what we have, so on close inspection you might notice splits on joints of their limbs. They breath through pores on their chest where they also keep their vestigial middle pair of limbs.
I also gave them a culture based in unique identities and their expression. Like many insect species they often communicate in gestures and dances, creating famous elven circles in open fields.
Must also add that my elves are a bit more mythology/folklore based rather then classical fantasy.
Elves (Speculative Biology)
If elves were real, what do you think they’d descend from? Personally I find them being a subspecies to be a little bit boring. Please lmk!! I’m considering for my fantasy world
worldbuilding!!✨
Hello friends!
I’m back and better than ever!! ᕱ__ᕱ This past week I have felt much, much better and, while I don’t want to jinx it, I think I should be looking forward to sunshine and clear skies for the next few weeks in the mental health department so that's always good news. I don’t have very much commentary this week, and I don’t want to keep y’all for longer than I need to in light of last week's heavier post, so I figured I would keep this one short and sweet. The main thing I have made progress on in the last few days is world building. Now, keep in mind that all of this is still in it’s beginning stages so things may likely change in the future, but for now here is a basic outline of some of the fantasy races and magic system in my story:
Lore
Elven Kind - the Atharenel
Names come from celtic, russian/slavic, germanic, french
Ailidh’s people have celtic names
Ruslan’s people have russian/slavic names
Two other main groups of Atharenel
one has germanic names
one has french names
The Atharenel are fully mortal and have normal lifespans much like humans
However they have a highly increased ability for magic
Along with a deeper connection to the natural world
And they have slightly enhanced abilities
Naturally mildly faster
Stronger
More flexible, etc.
Humans
Names come from misc languages
latin, hebrew, spanish, japanese, chinese, arabic, african dialects etc.
Some have ability for magic but at a much lower rate than the atharenel
And naturally powerful magic users are rare
Often use objects of power to help channel and amplify magic
Staffs, wands, rings, etc
Often utilize spells to help direct and shape magic specifically

Magic system - STILL NEEDS QUITE A BIT OF WORK
Magic is highly connected to nature
Magic enhances nature and follows an extension of most natural laws
There is always a reaction to an action
Something can’t be made of nothing
Stuff doesn’t just happen because
Light magic (or Life magic) refers to the magic of healing, growing, creating
Dark magic (or Death magic) refers to the magic of aggression, death, destruction
NONE OF THIS TYPE OF MAGIC IS “BAD MAGIC”
Life and death magic exist on a balance, they are yin and yang, there simply is not one without the other
However there is such a thing as “bad magic” and that is corrupted magic
This is the type of magic that creates things like the shadow army
It tilts the balance between light and dark out of balance
It twists nature itself into something unnatural and seems to come with no cost
Shadow Army do not have names

That’s pretty much all I have for y’all today. As you can tell, this is a pretty basic outline and some of the details are still vague and wishy-washy, but as I devote more time to this project I hope my vision becomes more and more clear. Only time will tell I suppose. Next week I will hopefully have some more characters developed for you all as recently many have been fighting to be released from my brain. We shall see. Until next time! ᕱ__ᕱ

Here’s a comic thingy plus the story part

Her talons clawed the ground as she ran over to her siblings. Her pin-feathered wings flapped as the hot desert wind graced her fur and face. A small bag hung around her neck
Her siblings were on a hill waiting for her with the same bag. Clora, Her eldest sister’s rich red-brown fur shifted in the breeze, she towered over the rest, nearly fully grown. Her brother Wren, was only about 2 years older than her with his brown fur, his now fully feathered wings.
Then there was her, Erosa. She was the youngest in her family, her fur was sandy brown and her wings and paws were covered in down.
“Looks like someone is finally awake” Clora spoke, her words had a hint of annoyance. “I was about to have Wren go get you.”
“You know you could’ve done it yourself.” He spoke back “Why do I have to do everything for you?”
“Cuz I’m older, so you have to do as I say.” She teased, a smug smile on her face “And I’m the one watching you two.”
“No you're not, Roun is.” he pointed out “ so you can’t boss me around!”
Erosa had forgotten about Roun. To her, he was still a stranger. He had only come to her family about a month ago.
There was knocking at the door, Mother, Dad, and Pa woke from their pile. When Dad went to the door, a gasp escaped his lips which woke the rest of us. Clora put herself between her parents, blocking Erosa and Wren. She remembered looking past her sister's legs, trying to see who dad was talking to.
Before she knew it, a stranger had walked in. His light brown feathers and fur were tattered and dirty, there wasn’t an ounce of muscle or fat on him, cheeks and eyes sunken from hunger and exhaustion. The way his eyes met and followed Dad’s, she could tell they knew each other.
He came in, and Dad introduced him as his brother and that his name was Roun, He desperately needed a place to stay and that things in the empire had gone south. Her parents quickly spoke amongst themselves and decided that he could stay as long as he helped around.
