In response to Unity’s pricing changes i see a lot of people jumping ship, while I’m not mad at the people moving to Unreal, as it’s a good engine, I do want more people to try Godot. It’s done 2d really well for years now, ans with 4.0 it’s 3d is much much better, so please give it a go, you might be surprised.
Edit: and try out all those little engines on GitHub, or make your own!

I'm back!
We finally decided on a new level generation system, It's not coded yet but it doesn't need to be
so
Instead of randomly generating each level, we select one from a pool of premade levels
random enough!
but as we still only have 2 levels right now, we can't really do much about that yet
WE HAVE GRAPHICS NOW!!

This is the first level, and the first hint to the story! we have that now
Most of my work has been with the player, and his animations

Here he is!
we have animations for him to face all the 4 ways, but I've been having trouble figuring out how to get him to not freak out
My current idea is, if you draw a line from the player to the top of the screen, then draw a line from the player to the mouse, what is the angle of the mouse from the first line, using that, I can get him to face the right way.
The next level we need to make is the combat level, and I'm too tired to decide,
That should be all for now
for next time, I need to work on animations, level design, enemies, combat, and story.
anyways

Short delvog so you know i’m not dead
There is a rats’ nest of an animation tree
It was radians
I fixed it
Short delvog so you know i’m not dead
There is a rats’ nest of an animation tree
So after dissembling and reassembling my laptop
It works again
I’m going to be working on some smaller projects to get going again and learn more of the engine
My computer died
I have to wait to get a new one before working on the game
Time for a ton of small projects for learning
What should i do first?
I kinda want to start looking at shaders
But i feel that there are more pressing matters

Side Project?

Big changes occurred, it may take me a bit to explain
So, In the year or so me and my partner have learned a lot, like, so much it was becoming painful to work on the project as it was. (It was bad) So we chose to start over, not from scratch, but close enough that we could work again

We left the main branch as it was, and started a new branch on the project's Github. Meaning we didn't lose any progress, if we want to go back
So, what's the current state of the game?
Well, it's not looking bad!
we have level 1

Level 2

And Level 3

(Blue boxes signify collision boxes, not sure why they're on level 3's path, they're only supposed to be on level 1's path)
The player has the ability to move, and is currently stuck in Idle animation

(That's an image not a gif)
There is currently no enemy, we haven't gotten to it yet, and out artist is still working on the sprites
Here's the player script

It's much simpler now, I've also decided to simplify animations by only having left and right animations
That should be all for the game for now, but
I've begun streaming when I work on the game
I'll try to notify you before I stream, I have no schedule
anyways,

I think i may just start posting about little game dev experiments
I’m making a little game to use for my friends birthdays
Updates soon hopefully?
My yet unnamed WIP game. Trying to get the chest animation right ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
*angry shadow noises*
Shadow-only render mode is fun
Some dialog, because why not
It's always fun to make squishy enemies

Howdy!! I'm actually planning GREY MATTER: CNIDARIA!! Well, I already know the story, but this planning is for me to map how the story will work as an RPGmaker game. I'm not going to give a schedule out publicly… mostly because I don't know how long each phase will take.
Cheers to this project! I'm a full time student and first-time RPGmaker dev, so here we go!
(More info below the cut)
GREY MATTER: CNIDARIA is a mystery and psychological horror visual novel with investigation and puzzle elements. The story follows Sojiro Tsutsumi (right on the promo above), a detective recovering from a traumatic incident. Case by case, the bustling city he lives in--Asobi--falls apart into something surreal and strange. Will Sojiro discover why Asobi is unraveling around him, or will he die trying?
GREY MATTER: CNIDARIA is unofficially rated as MATURE 17+. The game will contain gore, implied sexual content, violence, body horror, and themes of abuse, paranoia, and psychosis. Engage with CNIDARIA at your own risk and comfort.

"how did you pass through the fence outside my house?"
"Oh, I came from the other side. Fr-from the forest..."
"wow! it's been so long since someone came from there."
"c'mere, you must be really tired. let's rest for a bit."

Tiny tiny man. I wonder what’s happening? 👀

Was having a few issues with the iOS version of Kocho so I moved the game over onto my android to hopefully continue progress before the event is up. Here’s a little sneak peak of the app logo and bedroom map in the mean time.
Public Game Development is Hard, Public Political Storytelling is Harder
I’ve been silent here for a while, but I just wanted to say that I’m very much alive! I’ve been working out how I want to do the netcode and general multiplayer setup. Now that I’ve got that going, I’m getting back towards being more public in my progress.
As much as my instinct is to be totally open with my process, my process involves rapid iteration, which is to say throwing some cubes together and making them do a game mechanic in a sloppy way in order to see if it’s actually worth doing right. By working like this, I save a lot of time trying things, as I try to reject most of my own ideas and only keep that which really works well with the game as a whole. I’m happy with that process, but I feel like posting pictures of that both undersells the look of the game and overpromises the gameplay by showing lots of mechanics that wont ever be finished or published. It’s tricky that way.
Additionally, while the game isn’t propaganda by any means, there is a significant political dimension, and the politics at play are both very strange and very familiar. The game is set in the future of Earth, and while it does not directly represent the struggles of today, it does echo them. The ideologies at play are not those of today, they are the descendants of today’s ideologies, which means that if I portray them clumsily, they could very reasonably be read as caricatures of the beliefs of today. All this means that I’m hesitant to reveal them until I’ve had a chance to make sure that they won’t be reasonably misread. Some miscommunication is inevitable, and so is valid criticism of my own assumptions and understanding as a creator, I accept that. I just want to welcome people into the world when the time is right.
So I’m not going to get deep into the lore early on, but that’ll shift over time, and I am very excited to show more and more of what’s happening in this strange future.
