summary: you and quill go on your first date at arif‘s
warnings: mentions of sex at the very end
notes: this was such a cute thing to write and i think we need more domestic quill kipps fics… or fics of him in general.. get to work, people!!
arif‘s was pretty busy that morning. it was winter and you were watching the snow fall from the window of the little shop. you could hear people talking lowly, almost slipping into a chorused whisper around you. the coffee in front of you was still hot, so you couldn’t drink from it just yet. quill had just brought you this new one after the first that you had already finished.
Quill slid in the seat across from you. you turned your head at the sound and smiled at him. the moment your eyes met his, he was already sipping on the second cup of hot chocolate, that he had just ordered at the counter, seemingly uninterested in waiting until it had cooled down a bit.
“isn’t it a bit funny, that you ask me on a coffee date and then continuously drink hot chocolate?” you asked
quill shrugged his shoulders “nah”
“okay” you smiled brightly
the both of you had been here for over an hour, talking with no end. when quill had asked you to go on a date with him, you had never thought that it would be so entertaining, or that you both would find that you had so much in common.
in your eyes, quill had always been pretty strict and serious, turns out he could be quite funny, making you laugh with almost everything he was saying.
"can i ask you something personal?"
quill nodded and you smiled softly.
"lockwood told me that your talent faded some time ago. why did you choose to continue to work against the problem? why not do something else?" you asked interested "i've been an agent for all i remember, i do get the grind, but doesn't it get tiring after all that time you worked as one?"
contrary to your belief, that he might get offended at the question, quill smiled. "i don't know" he said truthfully "the thought of quitting did enter my head but it never stayed for long. i love the people i'm working with and i want to make a difference in the world"
"i like that" you replied "i always admired you for it, honestly. the way you carry yourself and stick up for your team, like it's more than just a job"
"it is more than just a job" quill insisted "it's our lives and from what i've heard and seen you don't seem to hold back either" "thank you" you laughed, before you got serious again "do you think we will some day get rid of the problem?"
“we will” he assured. you couldn’t tell if he was really thinking that or if he was just saying that to ease your nerves. he knew that you were always worrying about the problem.
you would sometimes work together, him with his fittes team and you as a member of lockwood and co. this is how you had met as well. even though lockwood never held back with comments about quill, you had grown to like him.
lockwood had thought you had made a joke when you had told him about the date.
one of the first things you had noticed was that despite you mentioning them all the time, quill did not say one bad thing about your friends. it wasn’t your intention to test or annoy him, but they were your whole life.
every story you could tell happened with them, they were your family and you were surprised how quickly quill had understood that.
he even praised lucy and george, when you told him the story of annabel ward and said that he would have been glad to have them on his team as well.
you could notice the stiffness in his face, every time you mentioned lockwood, there was just too much to just forget it, but he didn’t say anything at least and you registered that he seemed to really like you.
“maybe we could repeat this some day?” quill asked when the two of you had left arif’s and were walking down the street to portland row.
“yes” you smiled, glad that he was thinking the same as you. you didn’t want to wait until some day though. “how about tomorrow?” you asked “i’m free the entire day”
quill laughed at your eagerness. “tomorrow sounds great. i’m glad you suggested it, i didn’t want to pressure you, but i’d love to meet up again tomorrow”
“good” you breathed relieved. and somehow his agreement seemed to have made you brave, so you quickly added: “i really like you, quill”
“i really like you too”
you stopped in front of the stairs to portland row and on quill’s face rested a lopsided grin, as he noticed the curtains moving and lockwood’s face pop up in the window.
his smile wasn’t mean though. for a short second, the time you had taken to notice lockwood as well, you had thought that he was only smiling because it was annoying the boy. but now it seemed like that was just a plus and he was going to do what he wanted, regardless of lockwood watching or not.
he bend down and pressed a featherlight kiss to your cheeks and the heat entered your face almost immediately.
“bye, y/n” quill waved “i’m gonna call you tomorrow at noon, if that’s alright, then we can arrange something” he was already starting to walk away
“that’s good” you called “hey, wait, what do you want to do tomorrow?”
“whatever you want to do is fine with me” he smiled “i’ll call you!” he assured again, before he finally turned around and walked away
“stop being so smitten with him” you turned your head to look at lockwood, who had opened the front door and was now leaning against the frame.
“i think it’s already too late for that” your eyes returned to quills frame again, that was almost too far away to see.
lockwood sighed. “never have sex in my house”
you walked through the door, giggling at his seriousness. “i won’t promise anything” you laughed, quickly sprinting up the stairs
“what was that?” lockwood called behind you, but you ignored him, just smiling to yourself and feeling excitement bubble in your chest to tell lucy everything.

"what do we have here?" lockwood entered the library right when you were setting down the macarons you had baked. "did you make those yourself?"
despite his usual appearance, he was wearing comfy clothes. some joggers and an old hoodie that you loved, because it was so soft and the material didn't scratch your skin when you would cuddle with him.
you nodded proudly "it wasn't easy, but i did it"
"you did" he beamed, giving you a quick peck and taking one of the cookies, before he sat down in his arm chair, enjoying the baked good. "amazing darling, like everything you make"
"thank you" you smiled "do you want to play cards? i wanted to ask lucy but you came back at just the right time"
lockwood took another bite of the macaron, savoring the delicate sweetness. "cards sound perfect," he replied, setting the half-eaten treat down. the library's cozy ambiance enveloped both of you as you fetched a deck of cards from a nearby shelf.
you settled on the plush couch across from lockwood, the deck of cards in your hands. as you shuffled, you couldn't help but notice the warmth in lockwood's gaze.
"shall we make it interesting?" lockwood suggested, a mischievous glint in his eyes.
you raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "what do you mean?"
"winner gets a wish," he proposed, a playful smile tugging at the corner of his lips.
you chuckled, finding his suggestion both endearing and enticing. "alright"
the card game unfolded with each turn, accompanied by laughter and the occasional teasing remark. lockwood's eyes never left you, and you couldn't help but feel a sense of comfort in his presence.
after a few rounds, the cards had gotten abondened by the both of you, lockwood leaving his place on the armchair and rather cuddling with you on the couch.
he was caressing your cheek, while your were leaning close to his chest, breathing in his scent and listening to the steady rythm of his heartbeat that always calmed you down.
"i won" you muttered after a few minutes
"huh?" lockwood opened his eyes, looking at you
"i technically won" you repeated "the count was at three for you and five for me"
"you're right" lockwood closed his eyes again, smiling sleepily "what is your wish, my darling?"
"that we stay like this forever"
"i promise" he kissed your forehead, before he held you even closer, making you hear his heartbeat
"okay"
you close your eyes, cuddling even closer, slowly drifting to sleep to the beat of his heart.

summary: you always throw yourself in harms way to save your friends and especially your brother, this one might've been too far
warnings: mentions of dying and getting hurt
"what the heck happened, lockwood?" barnes was folding his arms "we talked about this"
lockwoods eyes wandered from the ambulance and lucy and you back to barnes. he almost couldn't look him in the eyes. barnes was right. this wasn't the first time this had happened. actually, they had a few conversations about it already and lockwood could see that barnes was at his final point.
"this is exactly the reason every other agency has supervisors"
"we aren't like the other agencies" lockwood quickly argued
"believe me, i know" barnes was massaging the top of his nose "the other agency aren't causing me headaches"
"i'm sorry, inspector"
"this isn't the first time i heard that, lockwood" barnes sighed
"i know" lockwoods eyes wandered back to your shivering form "but it will be the last" he assured "i promise"
"i will take you up on that" barnes nodded, before his eyes turned softer "i'm really sorry for what almost happened today" he patted the boys shoulder
"i know" lockwood nodded, biting his lip as to stop the tears from flowing. barnes pity didn't make it any easier.
the inspector send lockwood another brave smile, before he raised his hand to wave at lucy and you, finally walking off to his car to leave the scene.
later in the evening when you were all home and you were laying in bed, lockwood came to talk to you.
"hey" he muttered softly, sitting down on the edge of your bed
"hi" the guilt was already crawling up your neck
you were a bit stunned when he got straight to the point. "you realize that this was extremely stupid, right?"
your eyes wandered to your hands that were playing with your book.
"what was is this time, y/n?" lockwood continued after your lack of an answer "you fell out of a window" he reminded "just a few metres more and you would be dead right now"
"i'm sorry" you muttered
"why do you always do that? why do you throw yourself in that kind of danger? why don't you never think before you jump?"
you shrugged your shoulders
"we talk about this a million times and you never change the way you behave on cases" he closed his eyes shortly, trying to keep his cool "i pull you out for a month, you come back, behave for like two days and then everything starts all over again. you nearly die every second, barnes is waiting to ban us from the job and the bills pile up more and more. i don't know what do to, y/n. i don't know how to fix it"
you weren't used to see your brother like this. his brown teary eyes stared at you and you felt like crying too. never before had he let you know anything about the struggles he was facing. he was your older brother after all, he was supposed to solve everything on his own. or at least that was what he always thought his job was.
"i don't know how to help you"
"help me?" you repeated "you don't need to. there's nothing wrong with me"
lockwood sighed. more exhausted than ever before. "stop pretending you're okay for a second, alright?"
"i'm not" you protested weakly. you could see in his eyes that heknew you were lying
"you don't have to prove anything. not to me and not to anyone else" he assured. then he leaned forward, inspecting you closely "why do you always save our lives at the expense of yours?"
"i don't"
"yes, you do" he nodded "that is why we are having this conversation now and the last hundred times it happened"
you sighed, knowing that he wasn't going to just leave it
"i'm trying to pay you back, anthony" you said, finally giving in
"what?" he asked stunned "pay me back for what?"
"for saving me and sacrifing so much to take care of me"
he almost looked angry at that "what are you talking about?" he asked "you don't owe me anything, alright? there's nothing you would need to pay back! and when it comes to a dangerous situation i'd rather get hurt than have you in the crossfire"
"no" you shook your head in protest "when it comes down to it, there's one of us that needs to survive and it's not me"
you could see the surprise in his face, before he had even said anything to that. his eyes welled up with tears again. the question he asked next would've probably been deemed silly by you, if it weren't for the seriousness of the conversation and his voice breaking while muttering the words. "y/n" he said softly "do you even want to be alive?"
you gasped, taking a moment to comprehend the weight of that question. "yes" you answered, truthfully "but i could never let something happen to you, don't you understand that? you're all i have left and i couldn't live without you, it's pretty selfish probably" you shrugged your shoulders "i didn't know what would happen to george and lucy as well. none of us is qualified to lead an agency, so they would probably lose their jobs. you're important to all of us, anthony and in comparison no one would care if i suddenly disappeared"
"i would" his voice made you look up "i will always care about what happens to you and though i understand your reasoning i cannot accept it. i wouldn't forgive myself if something happened to you and george and lucy wouldn't either, you're as important as everyone in this house and we won't tolerate you acting like your life doesn't matter"
"but i-"
"no buts, young lady" you giggled at that "i'm your older brother and as long as you're living under my roof, you're going to follow my rules. that includes not jumping out of windows before knowing for sure that there is water underneath them or better not until i told you to jump or it is the safest option to survive, you hear me? survive"
"okay" you nodded
"we will work on this together" lockwood assured "and i will try to not get myself in any situation that would even make it necessary to be saved, alright?"
"sounds good"
"but you're still grounded"
"fine"
he hugged you, happy that you had been honest and that you accepted what he had told you. he kissed your forhead. "after all you're all i have left as well, don't you forget that"
"i won't" you said, looking into his eyes and feeling a bit of the guilt disappear into thin air "i promise"

summary: you save lockwoods life on a job but he can't save you.. but with a twist
warnings: injury, blood, falling from a building, and angsttt
note: dw it has a happy ending!! i promise
"the source should be upstairs, i can feel it" the adrenaline was rushing through your body and you knew there wasn't enought time to wait for an answer, so you quickly climbed the stairs.
lockwood was hot on your heels. "i'm coming with you"
lucy and george were busy fighting the type two and you didn't have time to argue against him. you ran through the rooms of the upper floor, searching through them, but never finding the source.
"it has to be in there" lockwood pointed to the last door left in the corridor and you nodded eagerly, dashing down the hallway. what you didn't notice, was the second type two emerging from the wall and following you.
lockwood was opening the drawers, while you were busy looking aroung the room as well. none of you noticed the ghost that was coming closer and closer to touching lockwood.
you gasped, upon discovering the source, your head turning to inform lockwood, when you noticed the ghost. there wasn't enough time to throw the silver net, and even if there had been, this was a total different ghost than lucy and george were fighting downstairs, so you couldn't know for sure that was the right source.
you quickly stepped between lockwoods turned body and the ghost. in the same moment you tossed the silver net, just for the small hope that it would actually help you. but before the net hit the source, the ghost had already outstretched it's hand. touching your cheek.
despite the touch being soft, all kinds of emotion hit you and made you stumble backwards. right behind you wasn't a wall or the hallway. it was the open window. with one last bit of your strength you tried to hold onto it, but you couldn't fight against it. not when you were already falling.
"y/n!" you could hear lockwood call, far far away. he was probably busy fighting the ghost now, in the case that the silver net really didn't do anything. at least you had given him a chance.
lockwood fought off the ghost as quickly as possible. his head always turning back to the window, trying to make out your form or how far the ground was away. he stepped aroung the silver net, fixing it's position on the source and the ghost disappeared. he was halfway hanging out the window just a second later, scanning the ground for you or any hit where you had disppeared to.
"lockwood!" the voice finally reached his ears
"y/n?" lockwood turned around, but he was met with lucy and george who looked at him worriedly
"we've been calling you for ages" george muttered
"where is y/n?" lucy tried to look behind the boy before her
"i don't know" lockwood breathed, walking down the hallway quickly. george and lucy close behind him.
"what do you mean?" george asked confused
"did anyone that was ghost touched ever disappear?" lockwood asked "is there a touch or ghost as strong to make you die and disappear on the spot?"
"y/n was ghost-touched?" lucy gasped
"that's what i'm trying to tell you" lockwood said loudly, rushing down the stairs "i think they were and then they fell out of the window and now they're gone"
"they fell out of the window?" george asked, but his question was left unanswered. lockwood was too busy, throwing open the front door and quickly walking around the house.
"they should be here" he looked up to make out the window "they should be right here" he repeated
lucy was holding her hands to her face, sinking to her knees in shock. george was trying to make sense of it all and lockwood was walking from wall to wall, muttering the same sentence over and over again.
"why aren't they here?" he screamed suddenly, holding onto georges collar and shaking him over and over again, until lucy intefered.
"this won't lead us anywhere" she said softly, losening lockwoods hold on george. "george wasn't there when it happened, but you were"
"are you saying it was my fault?" lockwood asked, tears still flowing over his cheeks. his friends could see the trauma that was bubbling up again. old memories entering his brain and spinning the events, so that he would eventually come to the conclusion that he had been at fault.
"no" lucy said "of course not. but maybe you saw something, something that you didn't really notice"
"yeah" george added "just close your eyes and try to remember"
"i-i can't" lockwood could feel the panic bubble up in his chest
"okay, it's alright" lucy tried to calm him down "maybe they are at home"
"i don't know" lockwood looked around once more "what if they are here somewhere? hurt, and we didn't even try to look for them?"
"they aren't here" lucy assured "let's go home and call the hospital, there is no use in panicking right now"
"o-okay" lockwood nodded
lucy had sent george and lockwood into the kitchen, so she could call the hospital, without lockwood hearing the conversation. she wasn't surprised when there was no one there that fit your description
before she could tell either george or lockwood, there doorbell rang. lucy wasn't fast enough to open the door, when lockwood came rushing down the hallway and dragged it open.
"y/n!" he said relieved.
lucy peeked around his shoulder. and indeed, in front of the door were you, accompanied by flo, who was holding you.
"i suggested the hospital, but they wanted to see you first" lockwood was holding you before flo could even finish saying that.
"what happened?" george was standing next to lucy and watching the scene play out in confusion "how did they disappear?"
"they didn't" flo helped lockwood to get you inside and on the couch "they came to me as fast as possible, i don't just carry these around with me for fun" she was holding up an adrenaline shot.
"i knew i needed something fast" you said "flo was the quickest option, i don't think i would've survived without her immediate help"
"no problem" flo shrugged and lockwood sighed
"we thought we had lost you" he muttered "i thought i had lost you"
"never" you smiled "but i couldn't risk that ghost touching you"
"that was so stupid" george shook his head
"and incredibly brave" lucy added proudly
"you're still bleeding from the head" flo reminded, plastering your wound with one of the tissues from the side table.
lockwood was broken out of his trance by that. "yeah, flo's right" he walked back into the hallway, putting on his coat, before he returned "let's get you to the hospital"
everyone helped to get you out of the house and into the nearest cab.
"don't you ever try to save me again" lockwood said later, while he was sitting next to your bed, after the doctor had seen you and you had received medication and bandaging for your head wound.
"oh, lockwood" you sighed "of course i'm always going to save you"
"this one was so close" lockwood nestled his head in your lap "i thought the ghost had touched you and send you into oblivion"
you smiled sadly
"i didn't even hear you hit the ground" lockwood went on "i tried to look for you, but the ghost was still there and by the time i got to the window you were gone"
"i didn't hit the ground" you smiled at the glimpse of relief in his eyes "i fell onto this very old sofa that was standing there perfectly, like it had been waiting to catch me"
"so it didn't hurt as much?" he asked
"not as much as it could've" you shrugged "otherwise my head wouldn't be in one piece anymore"
"oh god" lockwood muttered lowly "that would be awful"
"it would" you grinned
"but i knew if someone could survive this it would be you"
you smiled at his compliment "luckily, because you would be flying through oblivion right now, if i hadn't saved your fine little ass" you giggled at lockwoods dramatically offended expression
"well, thank you for saving my, what did you say? 'fine little ass'?" he laughed "i don't think i got to thank you until now"
"don't worry, you don't have to thank me" you combed through his hair "i'd do it over and over again"
"i would do the same for you"
"i know, darling" you kissed his forehead and watched happily how his eyes fluttered close "i know"

one of his hands was gliding through his hair and it fell into place effortlessly. you almost lost your mind at it. he put the sword back into it's holder with his other hand, looking around the house to see if his help was still needed somewhere. then he noticed you and came over.
"hello, love" he smiled brightly, before he kissed you
"are you finished?"
quill nodded happily, interlacing your fingers and following you away from the scene. leaving everyone else behind.
you made your way to arif's next. sitting down in your favorite booth and odering your favorite donuts, laughing, talking.
you could feel the eyes of some of the costumers, watching you and your boyfriend lovingly. they would smile when you did and gush when he kissed your hand or made you blush.
one lady even complimented the two of you directly, after quill had left the last donut for you.
he had brought some uno cards, because it was your favorite card game and you won against him three times, while enjoying your hot chocolate.
"i love winter" quill was watching the snow fall from the window, while you were shuffling the cards for another round
"yeah?" you laughed, always excited to find out something new about him. it was amazing to have known a person for such a long time and still finding out new things about them. "but you hate the cold"
he shrugged his shoulder, taking his eyes off the window and back to you "doesn't matter. i still love winter"
"that's such a contrary belief, darling"
"i know" he smiled "that's what makes me interesting"
"you can't love and hate the cold at the same time" you giggled "that's not how it works"
"can i tell you a secret?" he motioned for you to lean forward on the table, coming closer as well and then muttering softly into your ear "i don't care"
you laughed again. the sensation of his breath tickling your neck.
"okay" you handed him his cards "guess i have to accept that"
after you had won once again, or maybe he had lost on purpose, you couldn't tell, the two of you left arif's. saying goodbye to the guests that had not stopped smiling since the two of you had arrived.
he walked you home. the snow was falling even thicker than before. you felt yourself starting to love winter as well. just because he did. just because you loved everything he did.
"what do you like most about winter?" you asked
"how quiet it gets" quill smiled, waving his hand through the air, trying to catch snowflakes. "it's almost peaceful"
you watched him lovingly. he looked like a little boy again. you wondered why everything he did and said always seemed so magical to you. almost like he was special, different to everyone you had ever met.
almost like he wasn't real. right out of a fairytale or some old folklore.
"i like snow" you said softly when he showed you one of the snowflakes he had caught, before it turned into water from the warmth of his hand.
"i like you" quill kissed your temple. "even more than i like winter"
"that seems exaggerated" you rolled your eyes
"it isn't" quill assured honestly. his eyes were shining through, standing out from the white snow all around you and you wanted to cry. "you're my favorite"
"you're my favorite, too"
he squeezed your hand, while the both of you fell into comfortable silence. you stopped in front of your house and he tilted his head, so his face met the falling snow.
"you will get ill" you reminded
he shrugged his shoulders, quickly kissing your lips
"you're so cold" you giggled, trying to escape his arms.
"but you're warm" he argued laughing at the way you were trying to get away from him without a chance.
finally, you gave up, just letting him hold you and looking into his eyes. one of his hands went into his hair again and it fell into place effortlessly.
"stop staring" you looked to your side, confused where the voice had come from. "he's gonna notice!" there it was again. "y/n!" lucy called louder now and you tore your eyes away from quill to look at her.
"huh?" you questioned. lucy was standing next to you, looking in the same direction you had a second ago. quill was busy fixing his sword and looking if he was still needed.
there was no snow around you. it wasn't even winter.
"you really have to stop doing that" lucy said serious "he's way too old for you as well"
"you're right" you smiled sadly, following her back to where george and lockwood were waiting.
your eyes fell onto quill one last time. he noticed you looking and raised his arm, waving at you while he smiled. you waved back, all while asking yourself what it must be like to grow up that beautiful.
you would never get an answer to that.

pairing: george karim x gn!reader
summary: george admires you deeply. not only because you're his partner, but because you have an extraordinary gift
warnings: slightly suggestive if you squint, mentions of dying, ghosts, the usual
note: i just noticed, that this was probably the last george fic i'll ever write. it was so fun to write and i love george with all my heart. i hope you guys like it!!
the stairs were rusty and every bit of wood was making a sound when you were walking over it. george was following you and even though you knew it were his steps behind you, they still made you turn around and check. just to be sure.
lockwood and lucy were inspecting the first floor of the house, while you had decided to accompany your boyfriend upstairs, feeling like a type two wasn't far away.
george had been impressed by your ghost fighting skills ever since you had joined lockwood and co. you were one of a kind, able to talk to ghosts and calm them down.
george had been a bit suspicious of you when you had told him and lockwood what you could do.
"sure" george had said "you know, when it gets dark i can fly"
lockwood had noticed the look you where sending his friend and had known right in that moment that the two of you were a match made in heaven. or at least thats what he liked to claim.
in reality he had to seperate the both of you, because you kept making each other more angry.
after your first case george had apologized to you and the rest was history.
"do you have the chain?" you turned around to look at him
he patted the bag hanging from his shoulder. you could hear the silver clinging and nodded relieved. "good"
he followed you into one of the bedrooms and closed the door. he put down the bag and started laying down the chain, while you inspected the walls. "not long" you mumbled while checking the temperature.
"i can feel it too" george got up from the ground and watched you closely. you closed your eyes, feeling over the walls and hearing voices fill the room. you gasped, walking backwards, right into george's arms.
"what is it?" he asked worriedly.
"it was an accident" you mumbled "she isn't angry"
as if on cue, a ghost emerged from the wall. she was flowing in front of you in a constant motion.
"then what is she?" george voice slipped into a light panic.
"sad" you answered softly.
even without your special talent, you were able to notice that the ghost in front of you was the opposite of angry. she wasn't even coming closer. her long hair was flowing in the air and her eyes looked so regretful you almost wanted to pack everything up and leave her alone.
"hello" you said instead.
she looked confused at your try to talk with her.
"i'm y/n" you continued. you pointed behind you "this is george"
george raised his hand hesitantely "ehh, hi!"
"and you're maddy, right?" you asked and the ghost smiled "your mum told us about you" what she left out was any information about how her daughter had died. now you were wishing she hadn't. the eyes of the little girl made you so sad, you almost couldn't concentrate. but you had to.
"yeah" george added, unsure if she could understand him as well. but you had told him she could, as long as he was holding onto your hand.
that was another extraordinary thing george had noticed. you were even able to share your talent, by touching other people. he could only admire you for using your power. he had never met someone less scared of ghosts than you. not even lockwood.
no ghost could scare you, he thought. not even wraiths. most of them would calm down by your presence alone. maybe it was that they had no one to talk to before, or it was just something about you. maybe your smile or your kindness that they could feel and would keep them from hurting you.
"mum" maddy repeated and george's eyes grew soft when he heard her voice. it was a lot to see a young girl as a ghost, but her voice tore his heart open.
"yes" you smiled sympathetically. "she moved, that's why she's been gone"
"because of me?" maddy asked.
you shook your head. "no, sweetheart. she wanted to take her with you, but she didn't know how, so she called us"
maddy smiled.
it was true what you were saying. her mum had been too scared to hurt her or destroy the ghost form of her daughter, while she had sworn that she was a friendly ghost. but she wasn't sure how she would react to the strange agents in her house. she had thought that maddy would be angry perhaps. that's why you came as prepared as you were.
lockwood had promised the woman to safely secure her daughters source, so she could take her with her.
"teddy" maddy said simply. your eyes wandered around the room, until they landed on a chair, a little teddybear sitting on top of it.
"this one?" you asked, picking up the bear.
maddy nodded.
"okay" you smiled. "we will put it under this net. you will be gone for some time, but we will give it to your mum and when you wake up, she will be there, okay?"
"okay" maddy said and george was surprised how easy it was to deal with her. almost too easy. as if on cue, you could hear loud sounds from downstairs.
"the man" maddy said fearfully
"what man, maddy?" you asked, hearing lucy cry out your name "you have to tell us, okay?"
"the angry man" maddy said again "he is screaming and he is mean"
"it's alright, sweetheart" you tried to calm her. george had never seen a ghost be scared before. "wrap her source" you took out the silver net and held it in george's direction. "we will make him leave" you assured maddy "and you will be with your mum"
"okay" maddy nodded and the next second she was gone.
"what now?"
"we have to get rid of an angry man" you smiled, leaving the room and dashing down the stairs to help your friends.
lucy and lockwood were in the middle of a fight with the ghost, when you entered the living room. "y/n" lucy called relieved "maybe you can-" she jumped to the side, escpaping a chair the ghost had swung at her "talk to him"
"i'm not sure that will work" lockwood panted, throwing a few saltbombs. "it won't take him long to come back" he fixed his suit.
"we have to find the source" you turned to george, who nodded at that. "you go" you told lucy and lockwood "we will take care of him"
"are you sure?" lockwood asked and you nodded, making a gesture for them to leave the room. "okay" lockwood said "we'll be quick"
"i know" george took his position next to you
"how about some netflix and chill after this?" you asked as soon as your friends had left the room
"y/n!" the shock on george's face made you giggle
"what?" you laughed "a perfectly normal question if you ask me"
"you are always flirting in near death situations" george rolled his eyes
"yeah" you smiled smugly "but it got you to sleep with me, didn't it?"
"oh my god" george hid his face in his hands
"shit" your words made him look up. the ghost was slowly materialising again. you losened your belt, holding it in george's direction
"are you getting undressed?" george asked and his voice seemed to be a pitch higher than usual
"no" you dragged the word out "the belt is filled with saltbombs. i want you to get behind him and throw it, in case my plan doesn't work"
"what plan?"
"just do it, darling" george complied hesitantely, but did eventually walk across the room, behind the patch where the ghost was slowly coming back.
"hello" you muttered "maddy already told us about you"
"a talker" the ghost bid back, in a voice that send shivers down your spine. he seemed to be intrigued by you, which held him back from attacking you. well at least for now. "did she now?"
"she's scared of you"
"did you destroy her?" he was a lot calmer than he was before, george noticed, so he relaxed a bit, having new found trust in your abilities
"no" you said, truthfully "her mum is moving. she couldn't leave her behind" you explained "where did you come from? you weren't mentioned"
"i wasn't mentioned?" he repeated, laughing sarcastically "this is my house. i was here before any of you were even born" he screamed the last part and george was ready to throw the belt.
not yet, you mouthed in his direction. "we want to find your source. you'll be at peace" you said
"you want to destroy me" the ghost corrected angrily, but to george's surprise you didn't falter at his tone, but rather matched it.
"we want to save you" you said between clenched teeth "there's a clear difference there. let us help"
"you can't fool me" the ghost laughed
"fighting me is a lost cause" you crossed your arms "we got the best listener in the country. she will find your source and any fight will be in vain"
"you're foolish" the ghost muttered "you can talk to us and you don't use it for bigger things? we could rule the world" he clenched his fist, raising it diabotically.
"sorry" you smiled "i have a date at seven"
in the exact same second, as the ghost began charging at you, lucy called from the next room. do it you mouthed in george's direction. "contain it!" you called to the next room, moving on your feet quickly, to dodge the ghost's closer coming form.
george threw the saltbombs and a second later, the ghost disappeared. lockwood and lucy came back into the room. lucy held up the silver net, which was wrapped around a book.
"the bible" she said "who would've thought?"
"i don't care about his source" you shrugged your shoulders "let's get maddy back to her mum"
your friends nodded. leaving the house close behind you. ghosts like the second one where the true threat to your world, but maddy was the opposite. you didn't use your powers in a wrong way, like the man had claimed. you were doing the right thing with them. helping people who weren't able to help themselves.
on the way out you interlaced yours and george's fingers, thankful that the world you were living in had at least brought you both together.

summary: you celebrate your birthday for your friends only, lockwood celebrates your birthday for you
warnings: mentions of a bad home life
note: first, happy belated birthday and sorry it took me so long to finish your request, but here it is, finally!!
“—happy birthday dear y/n, happy birthday to you!!”
you blew out the candles in front of you, your friends laughing joyfully and hugging you.
lucy and george got out plates and were too busy chopping the cake into four pieces to notice you and lockwood looking at each other. he send you a smile and you smiled back, despite not really being in the mood to eat cake and celebrate your birthday.
you could do this for them. it was only one day, what did it matter?
george had taken the whole day before this to bake the cake and was now proudly serving it to you. how could you even think about not eating it? his eyes were gleaming and it broke your heart just to think about telling him the truth.
the truth was, to put it plainly that you had always hated to celebrate your birthday. you couldn't even say why. it just was a day that you would rather spend alone in your room crying than socialize.
but these were your friends, your family. how could you deny them something that made them so happy? you just couldn't.
after each of your had finished the piece of cake in front of you, george and lucy went into the living room, setting up a game for you all to play together.
lockwood and you stayed behind in the kitchen, washing the dishes.
"i can see that you aren't enjoying yourself"
"what?" you looked up from the plate in your hand
lockwood leaned closer to you, whispering "you've been scrubbing that plate for the last four minutes"
"oh" you quickly put it down so he could dry it
"you'd rather not celebrate, huh?"
you shook your head and lockwood nodded. "i thought so" he dried up the last plate. "think you can do it for one more hour?"
you nodded and he smiled. you followed him into the living room, owning up to what he had asked you. you played a game of cards, uno then some charades. about an hour later, lockwood excused the both of you.
it wasn't as late as you had thought, but the sun had still gone down, by the time lockwood took you out of the house.
the way wasn't long, only to the little garden behind the house, setting down a picknick blanket and a small lantern.
"what are we doing?" you asked intrigued
"watching the stars" he sat down on the blanket and patted the spot next to him
you settled down beside lockwood on the soft blanket, the cool night air wrapping around you. above, the stars glittered like scattered diamonds against the dark sky.
lockwood reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, wrapped box. "happy birthday, y/n," he said
you both lay back on the blanket, gazing up at the stars. The silence between you was comfortable, and you felt a sense of calm wash over you.
"you know," lockwood broke the silence, "birthdays are a strange thing. for some, they're a reason to celebrate, and for others, it's a day they'd rather forget. why is it that you fall into the second category"
you pondered his question "when i grew up, birthdays were never a special thing. you didn't accomplish anything, why should that be celebrated" you trailed off, glancing at the stars. "but tonight, it feels different."
lockwood nodded in understanding, "i'm sorry they made you feel like that"
"don't be" you shook your head "i have it a lot better now"
lockwood smiled "sometimes, all you need is a break from the usual"
the two of you continued to stargaze, losing track of time as the night unfolded around you. the weight of the day seemed to lift, and you found solace in the simplicity of the moment, feeling peace at the silence.
eventually, you turned to lockwood with a genuine smile, "thank you for making my birthday special in your own way."
he grinned back, "anytime, y/n"
and so, under the vast, starlit sky, you found a different kind of celebration—one that felt uniquely yours, shared with a friend who understood the beauty of quiet moments and the peace you found in the simple act of watching the stars.

summary: despite kipps best efforts to keep you away from each other, lockwood won't stop flirting with you
warnings: none
“the beautiful kipps!” anthony lockwood called upon your sight.
you bowed down a little, hand on your chest and fluttered your eyelashes, smiling. “mr lockwood” you replied, taking the hand he was holding towards you and watching as he planted a featherlight kiss on it.
“wow” lucy muttered next to the both of you “i’d never thought i would hear you say kipps and beautiful in the same sentence”
“well” lockwood nodded “only when it’s y/n” he said
“thank you” you smiled and giggled at the odd greeting you two had just done spontaneously
“morning, lucy.. tony” quill came to a halt next to you, dropping the bag of equipment and taking a double take at your still intertwined hands.
“tony, would you be so kind to let the fuck go of my sibling?”
you stepped backwards at his angry tone and your hand left lockwood’s embrace
“hey, gentle” lockwood smiled smugly
“don’t be an anymore bigger pain in the ass than you’re usually are, tony” quill put his other bag down “my sibling's too good for you anyways”
“sure” lockwood nodded
“so what are we doing here?” asked lucy to change the topic
“yeah” said kat “why do they need both teams?”
“easy” barnes had stepped into the middle of the circle “it’s a huge property with more than just a few ghosts and you are the best teams i know, so i thought you could do it”
“great idea” you smiled and barnes nodded at you thankfully
“at least be civil with each other this one time” barnes said “it will profit you both in more than one case”
“we can do that” you assured the man, who send you a smile, before he got back into his car. “we can do that... right, guys?” you asked, now directed at the two teams around you
"anything for you, darling" lockwood smiled and you looked down, blushing. quill took you by the shoulders and softly pushed you behind him, successfully breaking lockwoods sight on you.
"we can do that" he said "but you stay away from them, or else we're gonna have a problem, you hear me?"
"sure, kipps" lockwood shrugged, but the second quill had turned around and went back to instruct his team, lockwood caught your eye and shook his head at you, laughing as you had to giggle
despite quill's continuous attempts to keep lockwood and you away from each other, there had already been a few kisses shared between the two of you, without anyone knowing of course.
"we need to split up, the building really is huge" said lockwood from next to you. quill's hand immediately wandered to your shoulder
"y/n is coming with me, of course" he said
"i don't know, quill" you shook your head at your brother "it would be smarter to pair the talents. i should go with lockwood, yeah?"
quill sighed, but couldn't really say no to your request. he grabbed your arm and softly dragged you over to his equipment. "look, y/n" he said "i know that lockwood has been wanting for you to join lockwood and co for years now, and if you really want to, i won't stay in your way"
you could see that he was sad about it. "oh, quill" you mused. "let's discuss this later, yeah? it's just for this case, just trust me, okay?"
"fine" quill breathed "but if he touches you--"
"--i will let him know that he will loose a limb, of course" you nodded and your brother smiled proudly
"okay then" he nudged your shoulder, before he hugged you tightly "be careful, and if the moment will come, let lockwood die"
"quill" you slapped his arm and your brother laughed. then you went back to lockwood
"did he say anything about me?" lockwood asked intrigued and if you didn't know the nature of their relationship, you could've almost thought that he was interested in your brother.
"no, nothing, just advised me to be careful"
lockwood nodded. "y/n and i will take the west wing"
the rest of the two teams divided into smaller groups, as you followed the boy inside.
“isn’t it kind of annoying that your brother always decides what you have to do?”
“he’s my supervisor” you just shrugged
“i know, but wouldn’t it be easier on your relationship if he wasn’t?”
“you’re gonna get him to resign? or barnes to kick him out?”
“that’s not what i meant” lockwood shook his head
“you have to be more clear, then” you played dumb, as if you didn’t know what he was hinting at.
“y/n” lockwood groaned and his voice sounded desperate now. "you know that i would love for you to join lockwood and co"
"i know" you nodded "and i like you lockwood, a lot, you know that, but i have to stay with my brother"
lockwood sighed "are you sure?"
"positive" you nodded "isn't it easier on our relationship if you're not my employer"
lockwood smiled smugly "our relationship, huh?"
"yeah" you shrugged "how about a date after this?"
"i'd like that. a lot" he let you walk through the door in the hallway first, sticking close to you while you inspecting the west wing, without finding anything.
"seems like we missed out on the fun" lockwood said later when you helped kat out away the source. the west wing had been clear of any supernatural activity and you had only wandered around until you had been called out by the others.
"no" you laughed "i don't think so" you tilted your head to the side, looking at him. "i had a good time and i didn't even have to nearly survive for that"
"okay, me too" he grinned
"y/n" quill called coming over to you "i think this tells me everything i need to know, right?" he looked between the both of you "you are leaving, aren't you?"
"i won't join lockwood and co" you said, crossing your arms and leaning against the car
"you won't?" quill asked surprised, raising his eyebrows at you, like you were trying to make a joke. his eyes jumped to lockwood, who cleared his throat
"no" lockwood answered "seems like they have a priority" he pointed at the older boy
"you're staying because of me?"
"of course!" you smiled "i could never leave the best supervisor in the country"
"debatable" lockwood muttered under his breath, but you both ignored him.
"but i want you to be fine with another decision i made"
"what is it?" quill sighed, already sensing that he wouldn't like what he was about to hear
"i'm gonna start dating lockwood" you said simply "and i want you to be okay with that"
quill sighed once again, rubbing the space between his eyebrows in a similiar manner as barnes always did when lockwood was discussing something with him. "okay" he nodded, as if he had to accept defeat "but you'll be a gentleman, you hear me" he pointed an accusing finger in lockwoods direction. "if i hear one bad thing!"
lockwood raised his arms defensively "when have i ever not been?" he asked wide eyed
"i'm just making sure we're on the same page"
"alright, thank you quill" you pushed down his arms "i'll call you" you smiled in lockwood's direction, then you send a quick look to quill, before you decided to kiss lockwood on the cheek.
you followed quill back to the car, leaving lockwood to look after you in awe.
"guess i have to get used to that" quill muttered exasperated
"yes, you have"

summary: everyone knew there was something wrong in the way that quill talked to you, and slowly you started noticing as well
warnings: swearing, making out, sexual references, trauma, death of a relative and quill acting like a jerk
a/n: i don't particulary like quill in this fic and i'm not really sure if his character development (or the reasons why he did what he did) makes sense, but i just love to write happy endings, so please just ignore it lol
lockwood was doing what he did often, watching you sit on a stair, wating for your brother to come back, without moving a muscle.
"do you see that?" lockwood turned his head to look at george, pointing you out to his friend "he just lets her sit there and disappears for gods knows how long"
"it's a shame" george nodded and lockwood couldn't tell if he was being sarcastic or genuine. "but everyone knows how he treats her, lockwood and it's her own decision, that she tolerates that. i don't think she would fancy you saving her"
lockwood decided to ignore the last thing george had said "how bad of a brother do you have to be for everyone else to know?"
george just shrugged and lockwood was ready to repeat what he had said (for the simple need of getting an answer), when lucy entered his field of vision and involuntary declared herself his new victim.
"thank you, george" lockwood patted his friends shoulder, while pushing his empty glass into the hands of one very confunsed george.
"do you see that?" lockwood stepped next to lucy, without bothering to think of a new introductory sentence.
"huh?" lucy turned her head to the side, confused by lockwoods sudden appearance. "what did you say?"
lockwood pointed in your direction and lucy followed his eyes
"y/n?" lucy asked, not sure what lockwood was saying
"yeah, y/n" lockwood nodded aggravated "just y/n" he took a glass of champagne from one of the servers trays, downing it at once. "he left her waiting again. i thought maybe you could go talk to her, you being a girl and all"
lucy rolled her eyes, glaring at the boy "you want me to go over there and tell her to not accept her brother treating her horribly?"
"precisely"
"her brother who's a decorated member at fittes?"
lockwood nodded again "forget it" lucy shook her head, laughing dryly "i'm not getting involved in quill kipps' mess"
"it's y/n's mess too!" lockwood said angrily, outstretching his arm and pointing his hand in your direction
"why don't you go over there?" lucy crossed her arms, smiling triumphantly.
"because it's not my business?" lockwood said a bit too fast, not thinking his answer through. lucy send him a blank stare. "yeah, i'll just go over there" lockwood said quickly, not in the mood to fight with lucy and lose once again
"yeah, you better" lucy waved at him
lockwood groaned under his breath, putting his empty glass on an abondened table, before he continued his walk in your direction. as always, you were looking beautiful. your hair was curled and your dress had the most beautiful maroon color he had ever seen.
you turned your head in his direction, noticing him, when he was a few meters away. it wouldn't have taken a genius to see that anthony lockwood was in love with you, and still you had never noticed.
"hey" lockwood smiled, holding out his hand to help you up "you shouldn't be sitting on those stairs, your dress might get ruined"
"oh, well, quill has been gone for some minutes and it was too tiring to stand this entire time"
"why don't you join our table, then?" lockwood suggested
you looked through the crowd of people, trying to find quill. you laughed, unsurely, before you finally nodded "it probably wouldn't hurt" you smiled, taking him up on his offer and following him through the crowd.
"hey guys!" you smiled once your sight fell on george and lucy. both of them just stared back at you with big eyes. "sorry" you scratched your arm "do i have something on my face?" george quickly shook his head, while lucy stayed motionless in place
finally. "lockwood" lucy said through gritted teeth "could i talk to you for a second?"
you send a confused look in lockwoods direction, who just smiled at you, totally unaffected by lucy's threatening tone. "why don't you sit down with george?" he pulled back one of the chairs for you to sit down "we'll be back in just a second"
you nodded, sitting down on the chair. lockwood and lucy didn't really walk far until they started discussing. you could make out some words like 'kipp's mess' and 'saviour complex' that lucy directed at lockwood.
you smiled awkwardly at george. "how do you.. like the party this far?"
"eeh, it's fine" george looked anywhere but at you
"food and drinks are free" you smiled, nudging him "that sounds a bit better than just fine, doesn't it?"
george shrugged, seemingly uninterested in holding up a conversation with you and before you could start another hopeless attempt to get him to speak, lockwood and lucy were already back. by the looks of it they were not able to sort out their differences.
lucy sat down in the chair next to george, crossing her arms and sending looks at lockwood that could've killed.
lockwood, absolutely unbothered, didn't even look at her. instead he was watching you. "do you want to eat something?" he asked "we haven't ordered anything yet"
you shook your head "nah, i promised quill that we would eat together"
"how long has he been gone for?" lockwood asked intrigued
you shrugged your shoulders "i don't know, an hour maybe?"
"woah, that's pretty long, right guys?" lockwood looked between george and lucy, obviously expecting some type of reaction. lucy ignored him completely, while george nodded slowly, unsure if he wanted to even get involved in whatever lockwood was doing.
you shook your head "it's fine. i don't mind waiting"
"you can stay with us" lucy smiled at you and made it perfectly clear, that she wasn't angry at you, but lockwood. you always liked lucy. she was welcoming and you loved to listen to her complain about her two male roommates.
with george you didn't really have a relationship. you were friendly towards each other but never really talked apart from that.
and lockwood? lockwood something different. your brother hated him, so you weren't really allowed to spend any time in his company, apart from when they would fight with each other. but he was always nice and you could call him a friend. you had done your best to prevent it, but you had also developed a little crush on him these past few years. something quill would have your head for if he knew. but lockwood was your chance of freedom. he was everything your brother despised and that just made it all the more daunting.
"lockwood" the voice behind you send shivers down your spine.
"kipps" lockwood smiled, overly satisfied, while he turned around in his chair, putting an protective arm on yours and blocking your brothers contact to you.
"y/n" quill muttered "didn't i tell you to wait there?" he poined across the room
you sighed silently "sorry" you patted lockwoods leg "we were just catching up and you were gone for some time, so i thought-" you didn't get to finish that sentence
"what the fuck do you not understand in 'wait here'?" quill was angry and you didnt want to fight. but before you could say sorry again, lucy jumped to your rescue.
"this is all your fault" she muttered under her breath, seemingly talking to lockwood before she turned her head to your brother "i'm really sorry" she smiled brightly "i thought y/n and i could talk a bit. i miss having a girl around"
"oh" quill said confused. his anger had suddenly evapurated. he didn't really mind you spending time with girl generally or lucy in particular. "well, i didn't know that" he averted his eyes. "i'll be at our table. see you there" he walked away and you knew that this was him telling you to be there in less than ten minutes or something would happen
"does- does he always talk to you like that?" george asked hesitantely. you could see on his face that he was unsure if he wanted an answer to that. he probably didn't even want to involve himself in anything that was about you.
"yeah" you muttered, a bit ashamed of the way your brother acted even in front of other people "at least since i'm living with him"
"why don't you just leave?" lucy leaned over the table, confusion evident on her face
"i won't" you said honestly "after our dad died, my mother wasn't able to finance my schooling, but quill was. i owe him something"
"you don't owe him anything" lockwood shook his head "don't you ever get angry at the way he treats you"
"more often than you would think" you eyes wandered across the room. quill was telling some fittes guy a story. he was laughing and widely gesturing. you couldn't remember the last time he had laughed in your presence. "he didn't always used to be like this. our father and him were close and it took a toll on him"
"you're still his sister" lucy reminded
"oh, i know that" you smiled sadly "i wouldn't have stayed if i wasn't"
"how long are you planning to stay?"
you shrugged your shoulders. "as long as i have to. i'll save some money until i have enough to pay him back and rent something"
lockwood looked at his friends. eyebrows raised. you could see the gears turning in their heads, before lucy repeatedly shook her head. george didn't seem happy as well. lockwood turned back to you
"how would you liked to work at lockwood and co?" he asked, beaming "you could move in with us, save money to pay your brother back and not have to indulge his presence. i hear you're pretty good with sight"
you were stunned at his suggestion "do you really mean that?" you asked hopeful
"yeah, lockwood" lucy raised her eyebrows, daring him to answer "do you really mean that?"
"of course" lockwood smiled "we want to help you, right guys?" lucy and george both averted their eyes. you noticed the growing tension
"you really don't have to" you said "i don't think george or lucy are too convinced. i can take another year or two with quill"
as if on cue, quill made his way across the venue. "shit" you whispered as soon as you noticed him moving closer. you did the first thing you could think of, knowing he would cause a scene as soon as he had found you. you took lockwoods hands, dragging him in the other direction quickly.
you two ended up in a broom closet. of all places.
"did you meant to walk into a broom closet?" lockwood asked behind you
"of course not" you opened the door slowly "well. it's too late now anyway" you closed the door again and leaned your back against it
"okay, why are we here exactly?" lockwood made a gesture to open the door, but you pushed him back slightly
"my brother would've caused a scene if he had found me"
"alright" lockwood said, but then raised his brows "and he wouldn't if he found you here?"
you suddenly noticed how you had brought yourself into an even worse situation. lockwood and you were standing pretty close to each other. you could feel his breath fanning over your cheek and you nodded. "he totally would" you laughed and lockwood joined in "he hates you guts"
"can't say i particulary like him" lockwood admitted shamelessly "but he has a beautiful sister"
"well, thank you" you could feel the redness entering you cheeks. at least it was a bit darker in here "he probably would cut my head off if he found us here. even if i told him that it isn't what it looks like"
"well, what does it look like?" lockwood muttered, even closer now
you looked up at him with big eyes. he almost falted under that look. he wanted to kiss you so badly and he was wishing you would indicate the same
"i mean- eh it does look pretty compromising"
"does it now?"
"yeah" your voice had jumped a pitch higher at his close proximity. but you couldn't help but wish for him to finally kiss you. "please" you muttered
"what do you want, darling?" he asked softly, pushing one strand of hair behind your ear.
"please" you repeated "kiss me"
lockwood didn't wait for a second demand. he closed the space between you, interlocking your lips. he tasted sweet, a bit like marshmallows and you smiled into the kiss. your hands wandered to his neck, pushing him impossibly closer, while his hands wandered to your lower back, returning the pressure you were exerting.
he pressed you against the door and you voluntarily opened your mouth for his tongue to enter. faster than you had expected, he broke the kiss, sloppily kissing your neck instead
"shit" you muttered lowly. you quickly gripped his neck, pushing his face away from your neck and back to your mouth. you continued that play for at least ten minutes, when you suddenly remembered why you had been hiding here in the first place
"thank you for your offer" you said, breathlessly "but i can do it for a bit longer"
"is he ever gonna stop treating you this way?" lockwood kissed your temple
"i don't know" you shrugged "but i will talk to him. you guys were right, i shouldn't just accept it. my father died too"
"i'll be here anytime you need me" lockwood assured "or anytime you just want to make out"
you smiled brightly at the boy, pecking his lips, before you opened the door to the closet. "time for the real world, pretty boy"
"i like the sound of.." lockwood interrupted himself. right before the very door you had come out of, now watching your flustered faces distastefully, was standing none other than quill kipps
"what the fuck" he said angrily when he had connected the dots. you were ready to tell him that nothing had happened, but suddenly remembered that that wouldn't be the whole truth
"hey" you smiled, unsure what to say in your defence
"y/n" quill said slowly, and you were glad that the room was outside of the ballroom. the guests or anyone else wouldn't hear him scream at you. "did you two just fuck in there?" you could almost see smoke coming out of his ears. his eyes had fallen to to strap of your dress, that was now hanging at your elbow. you quickly fixed it
"what?" you asked surprised "no, of course not" you knew lockwood was smiling without looking at him. he put his arm around you, pulling you closer at your waist.
"you're not speaking to your sister in that tone" he declared and you send him a wide eyed look. it was hard enough for you to stand up for quill, but he definitely would never listen to lockwood of all people
"yeah, or what?"
"watch yourself" lockwood was angry now, too. "she's still your sister"
"and you are?" quill crossed his arms "you're no one, nothing to her at all"
"leave him alone" you muttered. you had never once even protested at what your brother had said at you, but it was different when he spoke to lockwood that way
"what the fuck did you just say?" quill asked surprised, he had forgotten his anger for the time to be
"you heard me" you said a bit louder now "and you heard him too. you can change your tone when speaking to me"
"ooh" quill laughed "the little miss is making demands"
"i tolerated it long enough" you reminded him "i understood you were griefing, but so was i. you never had any sympathy towards me, so why would i still have any for you? especially since you're ordering me around like your little maid" lockwood squeezed your side
"who put a roof over your head? who payed for everything and anything you needed?"
"you did"
"right" quill smiled smugly
"and i'm thankful for you doing all of that for me. i never even complained, but all of it does not warrant you treating me the way you do"
"watch what you're saying" quill pointed his finger at you accusingly "i prepared you for the real world, i brought you up and you go and throw all of it away for some boy. why do you act like a slut"
the gasp that left lockwoods mouth could've been loud enough for everyone outside the building to hear
"how dare you call me that?" tears entered your eyes slowly. lockwood was pulling up his sleeves, ready to fight the older boy, but you held his arm down. "i'm still your sister" you reminded quill, who looked a bit remorseful at your tears
he sighed, turning away, before he looked back at you "i didn't mean it like that. you're making it hard for me to trust you when you walk off and sleep with the enemy as soon as i leave you own your own"
"i didn't even sleep with him" you screamed angrily. quills eyes had grown big. never in your life had you ever screamed at him. "but if i wanted to i could, because i'm almost an adult"
"you're a kid" quill spat "and it's my job to take care of you. make sure that you turn out well and not get yourself knocked up at seventeen"
"oh my god" you groaned "i didn't sleep with anyone" you repeated once again
"i know" quill said surprisingly soft "but mum did. she ended up pregnant and without any degree in anything. and now, after dad’s death she has nothing to support you with, not even herself. i want you to make different decisions, to be smart and learn something, before you lose focus and fall in love"
you sighed "i understand that" you turned your head to look at lockwood, smiling slightly "but i think it's already too late"
quill sighed as well.
"you didn't have to treat me the way you did" you said "you could've just been honest with me, you know?"
"i know" quill nodded "but i was never good at these things.." he paused, tears briming at the corners of his eyes "dad was"
"i miss him too" you admitted, your voice breaking "and i hate what his death did to you. you weren't always like this"
quill nodded and couldn't bring himself to look you in the eyes. you were right about this, he knew you were. but he had just tried to make a good person out of you. he knew that it wasn't an excuse, but he was working in a dangerous field and he thought that if he would be distant and mean, you wouldn't mourn his death as much as you had did your dad's. "i'm sorry" quill said truthfully and you could see the remorse in his eyes
"i don't want to hate you"
quill nodded
"but you have to be better. an apology alone is not enough. i love you but i'm not beneath receiving any love back" you told him "you have to change the way you treat me, honestly quill, it's not okay" slowly, but determinated, you stepped closer to hug him.
you couldn't remember the last time you had done that. you had missed you brothers warmth. he had always been a good brother, before all this mess had happened and you knew you could forgive him eventually. both of you had taken far too long to have an honest conversation
"we will fix it, i promise" quill muttered into your hair and you nodded, before you losened the hug.
quill's eyes fell upon lockwood. he send him a nod. "thank you for being nice to her"
lockwood contemplated to scatter salt into the wound by saying something along the lines of 'i was just doing what you apparently couldn't', but then instead he just nodded. "of course"
quill smiled tightlipped, before he turned back to you. "and once we get home, we will have a very important conversation"
"quill" you laughed uncomfortably and your brother laughed as well. the sound send shivers down your spine and you had rarely been this happy. for the first time in a long time it seemed like everything would become good again.
"i'll call you" you smiled in lockwoods direction, before you followed your brother out of the estate.
not because he had told you, but because you just wanted to and that was a very good feeling.
pretty isn't pretty
pairing: anthony lockwood x fem!reader
summary: he was showering you in compliments all while you felt like you weren’t pretty enough
warnings: low self esteem, mentions of grief, bad thoughts
a/n: this is actually bad. i really feel that i am not really able to write for lockwood anymore, but i’m trying to write these last few fics to the best of my abilities, promise :)
you were looking through the magazine, comparing everything about you to these gorgeous women, plastered over the pages. always beautiful, always perfect.
you sighed, knowing that you would never come even close to that.
anthony lockwood was the kind of boyfriend who showered you in complements from morning to night and still you wondered if he meant what he said.
you hated yourself for thinking that. but there was a small part in your brain that loved to question anything and everything. the clothes you were wearing, the make up, how you looked and how you didn't look and of course your relationship.
it wasn't like you wanted to question everything anthony said to you, but you felt like you had to. he told you you were beautiful three times a day and sometimes you wondered if he meant it or just needed to persuade himself of that.
the relationship with anthony was the first real long and healthy relationship you had. the boys that had come before him were never a mere possibility, and it seemed the reason for that had always been you.
never giving enough, never wanting enough and most importantly, never being enough.
it felt like there was always someone better. someone more loving, someone more needing and someone prettier.
the relationship with anthony was so good, you almost couldn't believe it. probably why your head always tried to convince you it was too good to be true. as if everything you had could suddenly slip away if you stopped working on yourself.
you didn't want him to slip away. but you also didn't want him to be in a relationship with someone who he felt wasn't enough for him.
it was a constant balance between happiness and self doubt and you were so tired of it. it was like a constant companion, turning every good moment into a situation for you to analyze.
it was exhausting to say the least and without you noticing, anthony became aware of something going on with you too.
"what are you doing?" you looked up at the voice and noticed anthony leaning over the couch behind you
"reading a magazine" you raised the magazine in your hands
anthony sighed, knowing which thoughts were running through your head. “i know what you’re thinking” he said softly, nudging your shoulder in a comforting way
“you do?” you asked surprised. you had thought that you had been subtle, successfully keeping the doubts in your head unnoticeable for him.
he nodded his head, rounding the couch and sinking into the fabric next to you. he took the magazine and closed it, throwing it on the table. “of course i know” he muttered and you saw the hurt in his eyes.
you weren’t sure if he was hurt because you were thinking what you were or because you had been keeping it from you.
“you know that you can tell me anything, right?” his brown eyes almost made you cry
“i know” you sighed, ashamed at the conversation you were having right now, ashamed her that you even though what you were thinking “i’m sorry for keeping it from you”
“i know you don’t do it to hurt me” anthony said “but it still hurts. as if there was a part of you, not even i am allowed to see”
“it’s shameful”
“no it isn’t” he shook his head “i love everything about you, even the hard things, especially the hard things”
your lip shivered. “sometimes i don’t think i deserve you”
“that’s rubbish” anthony took your hand in his “do you remember my parents death anniversary? i was ugly crying the entire day and you never left my side. i was ashamed of that for a long time”
“you were?” you asked surprised, never really getting the thought that he might have similar insecurities plaguing his mind
“of course”
“well i never even thought it was weird or wrong. i know how much you love your parents, i could never make you feel ashamed for how you feel about them”
“exactly” anthony said “and with you it’s the same way. anything we think is shameful makes the other love us even more, don’t you understand? you don’t have to be perfect for me to love you.. i love you even more because you aren’t” he assured “that doesn’t mean your feelings are not valid! it’s okay to not always feel good about things, but it’s important that you tell me about it, alright? how should i be able to help you when you don’t tell me what’s wrong?”
you smiled at him and squeezed his hand. “i love you” you kissed his cheek “and you really don’t mind to speak about it?”
he shook his head “never” he assured “i love you”

summary: quill and you were a lot closer once, before everything suddenly changed and he was not there when you needed him most

"look out, y/n!" kat called and you jumped to the side at the last second, before the ghost could touch you
"thank you" you called towards the girl and continued to try and fight the ghost off. that seemed to work for a while, until it didn't.
"quill!" you called out. the boy had his back facing you, searching through a stake of books at the table. "quill" you repeated "i need you, please" the wail screeched and you jumped aside once again. there was only so much you could do, until it would be able to come close enough to touch you
you continued to fight as much as you could, stepping back when the ghost charged at you once again. you stumbled over a piece of furniture and quickly made contact with the floor, losing your rapier in the progress.
"shit" you exclaimed and watched in horror as the ghost came closer and closer to you "quill" you called for the boy once again, but he was still much more concentrated on whatever he was doing "quill"
the ghost outstretched his arm and— darkness
you shrieked up in bed, forehead drenched in sweat, once again being awaken by the nightmare there replayed itself in your worst nights.
you got out of bed, changing into comfortable clothes. the walk down to the kitchen was quiet, only filled with the chatting of your friends.
"morning" you smiled, entering the kitchen and sitting down next to your cousin, anthony lockwood himself.
"morning" your friends chimed
lockwood noticed the stoic look on your face, just how he noticed about everything that you did. he was always concerned of your well-being, especially after your almost death a year ago, while still working for fittes.
the moment he had heard what happened, he showed up at your doorstep and talked you into joining his newly founded agency. at least he could have a look over you.
he hated kipps even more, after what he did to you.. or more precisely.. didn't do.
"it's the nightmare again, isn't it?" he muttered and you nodded softly
after you joined the agency you had resigned to only do researches, helping george and mostly staying away from cases, your trauma being too much for you to handle that again.
lockwood was glad that you decided to stay away from fighting ghosts, but he was concerned either way. you had always loved working in the field and never were scared before facing a ghost. that all had changed and in some moments, anthony thought he didn't recognise you anymore.
"we'll talk about it later, yeah?" you asked to stray away his eyes from your form. lucy and george watched curiously as you leaned back in your chair and slowly started biting down your sandwich.
"you look tired" noticed george and you nodded
"the traffic was too loud, I will try to catch some sleep later" none of your friends said anything about the obvious lie. they knew it was your way of telling them to just drop the matter. they all shared a glance, before returning to the topic they had been discussing before. a new case that had just revealed itself this morning.
"i think we should take a stop at the library" george suggested
you smiled at that. "oh yeah, we haven't gone there together in forever!"
the rest of the group nodded, happily accepting the shift in your mood and continued eating. after breakfast you cleared the table and took your stuff, heading to the library.
you stood in the middle of two rows of shelfs, a few feet away from the table the group had sat down at. you could hear lockwood's faint voice. he sounded... angry?
you collected all the books you needed in your arms and went back to the table. the last thing you caught was what lockwood had to say, before you arrived. "y/n will be back any minute, i want to see you gone by then"
you looked up and caught kipps' eyes across the table. he looked at you, interest in his features. you hadn't seen much of each other in the past year, always keeping away from places you knew the other person could be.
"quill" you greeted neutrally
"y/n" he nodded
"what did I tell you?" you could feel lockwood's anger bubbling.
"i'm sorry" quill shook his head "i wasn't aware that you had bought the library"
lockwood rolled his eyes. "we haven't. but here are a few tables where we wouldn't have to see your faces"
quill ignored him completely. he stepped next to where you still stood and took a glance at the books you held in hand. his face was so close, that you could feel his breath fan over your neck. if you had moved your head, you probably would've kissed.
you knew that quill didn't do it to anger you. after all he was mostly searching for your forgiveness. the letters he send you never stopping. lockwood didn't know about that, and you would never tell him, because in his eyes quill didn't deserve one second of your attention, while you were only mere seconds away from breaking and forgiving him.
quill only did this to anger lockwood, but you knew he was concerned about you. you just get yourself back in a position where you were dependent on that concern.
"leave them alone" lockwood bellowed and quill grinned, resting his hand against your waist and giving it a gentle squeeze. you looked at him and you could see the sincerity in his eyes.
in your head, you had forgiven him a long time ago. you were still distanced and hurt, but you knew that he hadn't done it to hurt or potentially kill you on purpose.
it were still the same feelings that made it hard for you to stir away from the boy. in his letters, he had talked about those same feelings he harboured, not that lockwood would let you out of the house without lucy, george or himself, so there wasn't a chance to pursue anything.
and you weren't even sure if you still wanted it.
he stepped away from your body, and something in you was sad at the warmth that left with him. but that was the weak side of you, the side that would read his letters and cry itself to sleep or that would sometimes even answer them. you had to get over him and you had to do it fast.
the next morning you all stood in front of the house that you had spent the whole day before researching. lockwood had just parted you in two teams, this was the first case you would join again, after the incident.
but before you could walk in, a deprac van honked and came to a halt next to you. barnes stepped out and greeted you all with a warm smile and the look of his eyes that clearly said 'i have to do this so just accept it'
you all looked at him questionly, but before he could explain, why he was even here, the back doors of the van opened and quill kipps, followed by his team members stepped outside.
"oh hell no" lockwood said loudly, but you knew that barnes couldn't do anything against it.
"sorry, tony" quill shrugged his shoulders and looked absolutely everything, but not sorry
"hey" said kat, before she hugged you in greeting, bobby and ned following
"hi" you smiled back at your former team members
quill was the last to greet you and he just touched you lightly at the arm.
"stay away" lockwood bid at him
"it's alright, anthony" you said softly. lockwood watched in disdain, how your eyes looked up at the blonde and followed his every move, you looked at him like he had hung the moon and lockwood stepped forward in protest
"it's alright, tony" quill repeated your words, softly stroking your cheek, before he stepped away. you immediately missed his touch.
"why are they here?" lockwood turned his head at barnes, waiting for an aexplanation.
"because it's a big building" barnes shrugged "it's already higher than your paygrade, so just be happy i'm still letting you on this case" he crossed his arms and waited for lockwood to protest.
lockwood looked between his friends and of course noticed your pleading face. "alright" he said between clenched teeth. "but we will get our fair share"
"of course" barnes nodded, before he got back into the car and drove off.
"cozy" kipps raised his eyebrows "so, what's the plan?"
"you're waiting for me to tell you?" lockwood asked in surprise
"well" kipps shrugged "you were here first" he paused and lockwood didn't miss the quick look in your direction "and i'm trying to be amicable"
"great" lockwood nodded sarcastically "i say we split up. your team will take the west wing and mine the other — wing, yeah"
"wouldn't it be smarter so split according to our talents?" lucy asked from behind the boy
"lucy" lockwood hissed
"yeah" kipps almost jumped into the air at the opportunity "that means y/n is coming with us and bobby stays with you"
"you must be mental if you really think i would let them go with you" lockwood walked closer to kipps
"it's alright" you pushed your arms in the middle of the two boys' bodies, seperating them.
"no, it's not" lockwood said
"it is!" he raised his eyebrows in surprise at the adamant tone in your voice
you reached for kipps' arm, dragging him into the building behind you. the rest of his team following.
"i will kill you if something happens to them" you could hear lockwood call after you
quill flashed a cheeky grin at lockwood over his shoulder, fully aware of the storm he had stirred up. you led quill and his team through the dimly lit corridors of the mysterious building, a mix of emotions swirling inside you. lockwood's warning echoed in your ears.
"what's wrong?" you asked, turning to face quill, when he halted in his step. he put a finger to his lips, signaling you to be quiet.
kat and ned had taken on the rooms down the corridor on the second floor, while you and quill had stayed back, searching the first floor.
“someone’s coming” quill whispered, reaching for your arm.
you saw the ghostly form approaching, slowly it came down the stairs. it was like if you had been frozen. the past years flashed before your eyes, the house and the touch of a ghost you had almost felt. you thought you had left it behind you.
“y/n!” quill shook you “y/n, come on” he was looking between you and the ghost. he noticed your eyes not moving from it.
“i—“ you tried to speak, but you weren’t able to utter a single word.
the ghost was too close now. quill drew his rapier, knowing that he would have to fight it on his own. and he put up quite a fight, throwing salt bombs, before he was finally able to get rid of it, atleast temporarily.
“we need to go” his hands were on your shoulders and the ghost was nowhere in sight, but you still looked so scared. quill knew that he was to blame for that. “y/n”
he could hear the ghost come back to life behind him. it did not take him longer to decide what he had to do. it was to no use to fight it off, he did not have anymore salt bombs and a source was nowhere in sight, not that he would’ve known what it was.
he picked you up, just as the ghost began charging at you. and he ran, calling for help or someone to finally pull a few silver net over potential sources.
someone might’ve actually found something, because right as it was too late, the ghost disappeared and quill came to a halt.
“y/n!” anthony called, sprinting into the hallway, closely followed by lucy, george and bobby. “thank god” he sighed when he noticed that you were alright.
“thank you” you looked at quill, who had saved you. “quill saved me” you said, turning your head to look at lockwood.
lockwood nodded, wearing a tight-lipped smile, before he outstretched his hand, shaking quills to thank him.
“i just did what i should’ve done a year ago” quill answered uncomfortably “i’m sorry for all the hurt i caused”
you nodded, already having made the decision that he was truly sorry and did not longer deserve to be punished for it.
“everything is okay, quill” you just said. quill smiled at you and even lockwood could not stop his features breaking into a grin.

Cameron is doing Lockwood’s smile perfectly! It reminds me of how it’s described in the books. Where if you’re determined to be mad at Lockwood you can’t look at him smile.
