Y/n stands patiently by the school gates, nervously tapping her shoe against the concrete as she glances around for Bokuto.

To be completely fair, even if she did see him she wouldn't know it was him due to the fact she had no clue what he looked like.

"Hey!" y/n looked to her left to come face to face with someone chest. "Are you Y/n L/n?"

She tilted her head up and took a step back to see the beaming smile of a boy with grey and white hair, his yellow eyes reflecting the sun.

"Yep! That's me, daddy." She points to herself with her thumb, smirking as his ears turn pink and he averts his gaze.

"C-call me Kōtarō." He reaches up and rubs the back of his neck. "Don't call me daddy until we're alone." He glances down at her smugly, watching her reaction.

Y/n could feel her face turn a million different shades of red and can hear her heart slamming against her ribs.

"Aww, you're blushing." Bokuto pinched her cheek playfully, making her sway it away with a pout.

"S-shut up." She huffs, crossing her arms over her chest.

"Where are we going?"

"An amusement park!" Bokuto declares, making y/n perk up. "The train there leaves in twenty minutes and...OH MY GOD YOUR SHIRT HAS A DINOSAUR ON IT." He gushed, practically jumping up and down while pointing at her chest.

"He's so cute, what's his name!!"

"Herald!" Y/n declares proudly, watching at stars basically form in Bokuto's eyes.

"I love him." Bokuto says. "He is our son!"

Y/n giggles slightly at his childishness, grabbing a hold of his arm and beginning to walk.

"Come on, lets head to the station, you can tell me about your volleyball get away."

"-AND THEN KUROO SPIKED THE BALL AND I BLOCKED IT!" Bokuto throws his hands up in the air enthusiastically.

"It was totally awesome! You shoulda seen the look on his face, he was sooo pissed!"

Y/n laughs, eyebrows raised in amusement.

"What about you?" Bokuto asks. "What do you do for fun?"

The question made her falter slightly. What did she do for fun?

"Well, I guess the only fun thing I do right now is text you." He frowns at her answer. "Either that or I watch anime. Ever since I stopped playing volleyball I haven't been doing much."

"You should help out as a manager for the rest of the year!" Bokuto grins as the bullet train comes to a stop, announcing the name of the station.

"This is us." He says, the two of them standing up.

"But I'll talk to coach on Monday and you can come with me! Sound good?"

Y/n glances up at his grinning face as they step onto the platform.

"Yeah, sounds like fun to me."

"YES!" He gives the air a double fist bump in triumph. "You're gonna have so much fun with us!!"

"I hope so." Y/n nudges him as they begin to walk along.

"Let's go on this one!" Bokuto suggests, pulling y/n in the direction of the ghost train ride and into the short waiting line

"You can hold onto me if you get scared." He puffs his chest out proudly, making y/n scoff playfully.

"Yeah, ok tough guy."

Eventually they come to the front of the line and are instructed by the boredom ridden teen to get into the kart, Bokuto deciding to help y/n on first.

"What a gentleman." Y/n teases, making him grin bashfully and he sits down next to her.

With a jerky start, the ride starts to move, the track clicking as they get closer to the doors decorated to look like a skull.

As soo as the doors slam behind them, smoke starts to fill the room and red lights start to flash violently as a shrill scream echoed out.

Y/n glances around the dark in slight amusement as bokuto discreetly starts to shift closer to her.

A worker dressed up as a clown with pointy teeth and drenched in blood pops out at them, grabbing onto Bokuto's arm and making him scream and clutch onto y/n like a koala and bury his face in her shoulder as she laughs.

They eventually come to the end of the ride and quickly get off, y/n's face flushed from laughing at Bokuto's terrified screams and his pale with horror.

"It wasn't that bad!" Y/n says teasingly, patting his shoulder. "Come on, I'll buy you some cotton candy, it'll make you feel better." She grabs his hand and starts to pull him along to a candy stall but he stops abruptly, jerking her back suddenly.

"No it won't." He says looking down, and making  her frown. "But a kiss would." He looks up with a cheeky grin, his eyes reflecting the brightly coloured lights from the games stalls and rides.

"Would it now?" Y/n asks, making him nod. "Well come here then." He grins even wider and steps closer as she leans up to press a short peck on his lips.

"Oya oya?" A teasing voice came. "Didn't know your had a girlfriend. Bokuto."

The two of them snap their head up to look at the person who had spoke, a tall boy with fair skin and messy black bed head was standing there with a smug smirk and his phone in hand and directed at them.

"I'm sure you're team would love this photo too, I might print it out."

Y/n blinks slowly and looks at Bokuto who was covered in blush.

"Ok," she says, gaining their attention. "Makes sure to send me a copy." She winks at him and links arms with bokuto and starts to pull him away.

"See ya later rooster boy." Bokuto yells back teasingly, sticking his tongue out at the boy.

"Hurry up, I wanna win you one of those teddy bears you were oggling earlier." Y/n says, making bokuto sputter in response.

"I-I was oggling it for..you!" He argues back.

"Yeah, ok sunshine."

I AM LIVID! I accidentally hit the won’t thing and didn’t save the story portion of this and I had to rush it out again and I was also very angry.

So I’m sorry for any cringe, or errors 😤😤😤

they find out you play the drums

prompt: “you invite them out to a new bar that recently opened, stating the band there was really good, but the last thing they expected was seeing you on stage.”

includes: tobio kageyama, kozume kenma, tetsuro kuroo

warnings: none except occasional swearing!

a/n: AYE my first headcannons :D i came up with this idea listening to paramore lmao i just need to get it out of my system, enjoy!

tobio kageyama

when you came up to him and begged him to visit the new bar, he didn’t even think about denying you

simply because 1. your face was too cute and 2. you havenT BEEN SPENDING ENOUGH TIME WITH HIM; HE MISSES YOU >:(

so you two went together the following friday

you were vibrating in excitement already,, it was so hard not telling him but you wanted to see his raw reaction

you two made yourselves comfortable, ordering drinks before you excused yourself

“I have to use the restroom, I’ll be right back, kags” you said, pecking his nose, which obviously made him scoff but he nodded

when the band was announced, you were still not back and he was kind of upset but also kind of worried because??

did you ditch him??

did someone kidnap you??

but he didn’t have enough time to ponder over it because the music soon started

and there you were.

sat behind the drums.

his eyes nearly popped out of his sockets at the sight. you looked so fucking badass.

he didn’t pay attention to the bassist or singer

his eyes were trained on you the entire time, every hit against the drums resonating through his ears

as if that wasn’t hot enough, you should’ve seen his face when you took over, playing louder than the singer and bassist, all of the attention now on you

he couldn’t help but scoff at the amount of men eye-fucking you

after the little concert was over he immediately walked over to you

“how could you hide that masterpiece from me?!”

kozume kenma

now for this baby, it was a bit harder to get him out of the confinement that was his four walls

after literal WEEKS of persuading him, you still couldn’t convince him LMAO

you made kuroo drag him to the bar.

so there he sat, waiting to be finally able to go home to get to his precious handheld console again

kenma does NOT like loud sounds or places with many people overall, so it only added to his horror as soon as your band was announced

as soon as the lights went off and the stage lighting turned on, he looked in that direction

you were sat in the middle, behind some drums, dressed in all black attire

his eyes widened and his jaw dropped, kuroo having to push his mouth back shut

he watched you perform in awe

he found himself actually enjoying it, especially when it was your turn to steal the spotlight with your skills

after the performance he patiently waited for you to approach him, finally doing so after signing a few autographs

“if you told me, i would’ve agreed to come earlier..”

tetsuro kuroo

kuroo was actually the one to ask you to go to the new bar

the universe was working in your favour lmao

almost as soon as you arrived at the bar you excuse yourself, leaving a confused boyfriend behind

confused boyfriend! turned into hypeman! boyfriend as soon as he saw you on the stage

“THAT’S MY PARTNER RIGHT THERE!”

“don’t look at them like that, they’re mine!”

“MY BABY IS SO TALENTED!”

well he definitely wasn’t embarassed to show you off

seeing you up there, dancing along to the music as you played looking so, so cool, just made his heart swell and his cheers got louder

at some point he got the whole bar to cheer for you too

he couldn’t help it!! you just looked so happy when you heard the cheers!

you bet your ass he will come to every single performance from now on

after you were done he calmly escorted you away from the piles of people wanting you to sign something for them

“didn’t know you had it in you, baby!”

he kissed you to show everyone who you belonged to

a/n: i feel like ive let ya down with this one, oh well! plsplspls send requests!! i need to get around to making a navi/about me these days.

A/N: LETS GOOOOO (hope yall enjoy)

Previous///Next

“(Name)-san, you mind passing me the sesame seeds over there? And, on the way back, pass on this order to that customer at the last seat over there.” Osamu held out the finished onigiri on one hand while gesturing an open hand with the other.

You grab the sesame seed container with haste and take the onigiri from your boss. “Got it! You also have another order of one Pickled Plum onigiri, less salted!”

Osamu gives you a thumbs up before getting back to work immediately, and you hand over the order to the awaiting customer.

You’ve had your fair share of lunch rushes, but today has been busier than usual. You and Osamu haven’t had a single break since the shop opened for the day, at least one customer arriving every time one leaves. Suddenly, the phone rings and you go ahead and answer it. “Hello, this is Onigiri Miya! How can I help you?”

You hear the front entrance open, but since you were busy jotting down the phone order, you didn’t get the chance to glance at the two people who just arrived.

“Why couldn’t Fukunaga just cook some food?” a monotone voice drawled.

“Kenma, the man sprained his wrist and you still expect him to cook for all of us?” Kuroo combed a hand through his signature bedhead and began to gesture at himself as his friend pouted. “Look, I even came straight from work in my suit to accompany you so you wouldn’t have to carry everything alone.”

The two men walked up to the register just as you ended the call. You quickly passed on the note with the written down order to your boss and tucked your hair behind your ear to get it out of your face. You finally got the chance to direct your full attention on the people in line.

“Hello! What can I-...!!!” You didn’t get to finish your sentence once you realized who was ordering. Kodzuken, the Youtuber you practically spent the majority of your free time watching, was standing less than 3 feet in front of you in the flesh.

“Um...is there something wrong?” Kenma asks slightly confused at your frozen expression. Your mind was a jumbled mess as you attempted to say something coherent, failing in the end.

“N-no! Uh...you...I just...um…,” you stutter.

Before you could make a bigger fool of yourself, Kuroo leans forward with a smug grin. “Hm? Kenma, it seems like you got yourself a fan~”

“Oh…”

You and Kenma just simply stare at one another for a moment not really knowing what to do in this situation. All of a sudden you hear someone clear their throat rather loudly behind the two people in front of you. While you were distracted, you didn’t notice that another customer had entered the shop and was waiting in line. This snaps you out of your daze. “O-oh! Right. Sorry about that. What can I get for you guys?”

“There’s actually quite a bit of food to order, so I’ll list it out slowly.” Kuroo pulls out his phone and opens up a note file. “Two Tamago onigiri, one Miso, three spicy cucumber…”

As Kuroo continues to relay the order, you frequently hear someone scoffing or clicking their teeth in irritation from behind him and Kenma. You try not to pay attention and focus on the large order being made. Kuroo eventually gets to the end of the list and you let him know the total cost.

“What’s the name for the order?”

“Kuroo.”

You type in the name into the register and give him the printed out receipt. “Alright, Kuroo-san. Just letting you know, because it’s a large order, it might take some time.”

“That’s fine. We don’t mind waiting a bit.”

Kuroo and Kenma walk off to the side to let the person behind them order next. A displeased looking man treads forward with a bit of a demeaning posture and a cup of coffee held out in his right hand. He’s adorned in a suit that’s much too tight for his form and has a toupe two shades darker than his natural hair color poorly placed on top of his head.

Before you could even greet him, the man flails out his left arm in exasperation. “Finally! I don’t have time to wait for children.”

You try your best to keep your face from contorting into a glare. Not wanting to prolong his presence inside the shop, you choose to ignore his rude comment.

“Hello, sir. What can I get for you?” You ask.

The man takes a brief glance at the menu. “Make me an Unagi onigiri.”

“Alright. That’ll be-”

“And, make my order before theirs.” He points at Kuroo and Kenma who look up from their phones and seem just as shocked as you are. So, he was going to be one of those customers. You think you see Kenma shifting around a bit from the corner of your eye, but you’re too appalled by the person in front of you to really pay any mind.

“Excuse me?” You’re in a bit of disbelief at the words coming out of this man’s mouth.

He raises one of his unkempt eyebrows and sneers. “You’re really going to make me repeat myself? I said to make mine before theirs. They ordered way too much.”

“I apologize, but I can’t do that for you,” you reply with your teeth slightly clenched in frustration. “There are also a few customers before you who are still waiting for their meals as well.”

“Listen.” He lets out an unpleasant huff and eyes you down with a condescending stare. “I’m on a tight schedule. I think I should have priority. I’m a businessman, so my time is important.”

You shake your head, the fake smile on your lips feeling heavier by the second. “Like I said, sir. I can’t do that for you.”

“Are you kidding me?!” The businessman shouts. You flinch at the sudden outburst. “I waited for those children to finish their order and you can’t even make my order first?”

By now, everyone in the shop is watching the scene between the register girl and the entitled businessman. Osamu looks just about ready to intervene and go off on the customer, but you signal him to stay where he was under the counter. He reluctantly stays back, but makes sure to keep an eye on you.

“Sir, you’ll have to wait for your order like everyone else or find another place to eat.” Your tone is firm despite your exhaustion as you answer back. The man did not seem to like your response very much.

“How dare you!”

Everything happened so fast. The male lifts his right arm that’s in possession of the cup of coffee, obviously getting ready to hurl it directly at you. Your feet are glued to the ground in panic, so you fling your arms over your head instinctively. Your boss practically leaps towards your direction and encases your body with his own to protect you. You hear a splashing noise, but your vision is too obstructed by Osamu’s broad shoulders to witness what just happened. There’s no coffee on you, so you immediately assume that Osamu took the impact.

“Osamu-san! Are you-” You cut yourself off as you grab onto Osamu’s completely dry uniform. He seems to be just as perplexed as you are, but forms a slightly amused expression when he turns his head. Confused, you look over his shoulder to follow his line of sight and your eyes automatically widen at the view in front of you.

Standing in a puddle of his own lukewarm beverage, the rude man is frozen in disbelief. His wet hair is flat against his forehead and the tight suit is drenched in coffee. The man still held his coffee cup in the air, but what really brings the whole scene together is the tight grip on the man’s right arm by none other than Kuroo himself. He had twisted the man’s arm just enough to have the liquid fall directly downward.

“Whoops~ I just tried to save the nice girl, but I guess I overshot it.” Kuroo’s lips create a mischievous smile. “I wouldn’t recommend going to work with coffee all over your suit and your wig. Although, your boss might, uh, loosen up that tight schedule of yours for you if you do.”

The man comes to his senses and aggressively shoves Kuroo’s grip away. “You ungrateful brats! I’m going to call the police!”

You furrow your eyebrows, not liking the idea of the police getting involved in such a trivial thing.

Luckily, Kuroo seems to have something up his sleeve. “You can try. But then I guess there wouldn’t be an excuse to not turn you in for harassment and attempted assault. My friend here got everything on camera.”

Sure enough, when you direct your gaze onto the quieter one of the two friends, he has his phone in his hands in a recording position. He must’ve started recording as soon as the whole situation began. The rude customer turns beet red with anger and embarrassment. He must’ve realized that he ultimately lost because he swiftly stomps to the exit and slams the door shut, grumbling insults under his breath. Some of the other customers start clapping with satisfaction, while Kuroo and Kenma fist bump each other.

You let out a sigh of relief, but then you remember that Osamu was still holding onto you. Your boss must’ve been caught up with everything that happened too since he still had a fairly tight grip on you. Despite the warm feeling that was tingling your insides, you lightly tap his elbow and look up at him with a soft smile. “Hey, I think the coast is clear now.”

Looking you directly in the eyes, a light blush forms on his cheeks and he quickly lets you go even taking a few steps back to give you some space. He starts rubbing the back of his neck shyly. “Right. You okay?”

“Yeah, I’m good. Thanks for such a heroic gesture,” you laugh and Osamu’s face flushes a bit more. You then turn your attention to Kuroo and Kenma with a grateful smile. “Thanks guys. I don’t know if I could’ve held it in any longer if he actually threw his drink on me.”

Kuroo returns your smile and leans against the counter nonchalantly. “No problem. That was really uncalled for.”

Kenma silently nods his head in acknowledgement before directing his gaze to the floor. “Kuroo, the floor is wet.”

The taller man sheepishly turns to you after realizing how much of a mess he actually made with the spilled coffee. “Ah, I’ll clean that up.”

Kuroo attempted to wipe the floor with some small napkins displayed on one of the tables, but there was a surprisingly substantial amount of coffee that was still spread across the floor. You tell him that you’ll just wipe the floor with the mop and to dispose of the used napkins. He tries to apologize again, but you brush it off since it’s really not that big of a deal. You direct him to the bathroom and prepare your cleaning supplies. During this time a group of girls start whispering to each other at the corner of the room, stealing glances at Kenma. Everything that happened seems to have brought some unwanted attention to the gamer.

“Hey, isn’t he that super famous Youtuber?”

“Yeah, that has to be him! We should go and get a picture with him. I bet everyone else would be so jealous.”

“I heard he’s loaded with cash too. Maybe if we play our cards right, he’ll buy us a drink or even a new purse.”

As you mop the floor, you hear the clicking of heels coming closer to where you are. Curiously, you turn your head and see three young females encircle Kenma. You would even say they have pretty faces if their expressions weren’t so predatory. He looks extremely uneasy over the close proximity and sudden attention from the strangers. They all speak one after the other without giving the poor guy any room to reject.

“Hey, you’re really popular, right? I’ve seen you on Youtube and you have millions of subscribers!”

“Do you wanna hang out with us? There’s a bar down the street that has really strong drinks. They’re kind of pricey, but I’m sure you’ll be able to afford it.”

“That sounds like a great idea, no? Come on, you could have some fun with the three of us.”

At this time, Kuroo walks out of the bathroom and immediately notices his friend’s obvious discomfort. He shakes his head in dismay and starts making his way towards the gamer to play the savior role again. This time, however, you seem to be one step ahead of him. One of the girls reaches out to try and grab onto Kenma’s upper arm, and you feel something in you snap. Before she could come in contact with Kenma, you thrust the back of your mop right into her side earning an ear-piercing yelp.

“OW!”

As you turn around to face the group, you make sure to add a little swing to your arms and the bottom of the soaked mop splatters onto another girl’s heels.

“EW! What the hell?!”

“Oh! Sorry about that!” You apologize half-heartedly and tilt your head innocently. You’re proud to say that you were even able to hold your best counterfeit customer service smile as you continued. “You see, the shop is pretty small so you probably shouldn’t hang around in the middle of it. I think there’s a pretty big thrift shop down the block if you wanna kill time. You could also probably buy a replacement purse for the fake one you’re holding now.”

The girls don’t seem as adamant as the previous ill-mannered customer, so they just speedily strut outside with lowered heads and annoyed frowns. Still feeling a bit petty, you make sure to wave a hand sarcastically. “Don’t get your extensions stuck on the door on your way out!”

You feel a pair of eyes trained onto your form, so you make the effort to turn around. Kenma is just quietly fixated on you. You shift a bit at the awkward moment before breaking the silence. “Ah, sorry Kod-...uh...Kozume-san. You just looked a bit uncomfortable with those girls and I was still a bit upset by the man from before.”

There’s a small quirk to the corner of his lips. “Thanks. And, just Kenma is fine.”

Your body tenses a bit at the Youtuber’s words. “B-but…”

It was at this time Kuroo decided to make his presence known. He was slightly bent over with his arms crossed and a smirk on his face. “That’s right~ You mentioned that you watch his videos. How long have you been a fan?”

“Um...about 2 years?” You scratch your cheek shyly as you remember all the lonely nights in your apartment when you binged on Kodzuken’s streams while munching on five different brands of cookies. “The videos got me through some rough patches in college.”

“That’s just about the time he even started making videos. You must be a pretty loyal fan then.“ Kuroo hums in thought. His eyes shift between you and his friend before ultimately landing on his male figure. “Kenma, why don’t you take a picture with her?”

Both of your hands shoot up at the suggestion and start waving them in dismissal. “N-n-no! That’s okay! I don’t want to make him more uncomfortable!”

“Aw, come on! No guy would mind taking a picture with a pretty and sensible girl like yourself. You’re definitely more pleasant than those fakes from before.” Kuroo takes this time to rest his elbow on your shoulder and draw a bit closer to you while still facing Kenma. Your nose catches the subtle musky cologne from the tall man and can’t help but appreciate the attractive scent despite your current predicament.

The two of you continue to go back and forth for a bit, neither of you backing down with your stubbornness. Kenma just watches in amusement for another minute or two before deciding to finally say something. “I don’t mind.”

You and Kuroo both pause when you hear Kenma’s voice. Once you actually comprehend what Kenma had just said, it takes all of your energy to try and calm your excited heart. Kuroo grins triumphantly and claps his hands together. “Then, that’s that!

After pulling out his own phone from his pocket, Kuroo signals you and Kenma to get closer until your shoulders are touching. You manage to calm your heart to a certain extent and pose with a small peace sign. Kuroo takes a couple of pictures and even changes the camera to selfie mode with all three of you for one of them.

“Hey, what’s your number? I’ll send the pictures to you.” Kuroo passes you his phone and you type your contact information in. When you return his phone, he sends the images right away and you feel vibrations in your pocket. When you pull it out the check, you can’t help but smile. You tap one of the pictures to see the full screen and surprisingly you look a lot calmer than you had felt at the time. You and Kenma were both holding up a peace sign with happy expressions. You were beaming while Kenma sported a small, but genuine smile. The picture was perfect. You were definitely changing this picture to your lock screen soon.

“Order’s ready for Kuroo-san!”

You let out a silent gasp when you remember that you’re still in the middle of working after hearing your boss. You make the effort to get rid of all the cleaning supplies before rushing back to your spot on the register. “Sorry, boss!”

Osamu’s pretty chill about the whole situation and you’re once again thanking the universe for gifting you with such a kind boss. As you’re passing the food to Kenma and Kuroo in multiple plastic bags, the latter looks into one of them and gives Osamu a bewildered look. There was an extra bag of side dishes and drinks. “We didn’t pay for these.”

“Take it as a thanks for helping out and saving my little coworker.” Your boss just smiles and you just pout at Osamu’s teasing.

“Are you sure? It’s more like we drove away some of your customers.”

“No worries. I’d rather run a small business with decent customers than have to deal with people like them for a couple extra points on reputation,” Osamu reassured. “But, if you’re still concerned, I guess I wouldn’t mind an autograph to put up in the shop. Only if Kozume-san is alright with that, of course.”

To say the least, Kodzuken’s autograph was framed and displayed on the wall next to the windows by the end of the day. Kenma had even posted a picture of him and his high school friends from Nekoma eating the food on social media while tagging Onigiri Miya. This would surely bring in a lot more customers to the shop in the future.

Despite the busy work day and the mishaps in between with impolite customers, you had a great experience. You never thought you’d ever get to stand next to the only Youtuber you’ve ever really wanted to interact with in person, let alone get a nice picture with him. The world was really on your side when you got accepted into this job.

“Didn’t know you were such an avid video game fan,” Osamu points out as you’re both wiping down the counter and putting away ingredients. It was closing time, so the both of you were on cleaning duty.

“I actually don’t play as much. I mostly just enjoy watching other people play since I don’t really have a lot of free time,” you reply back.

“Oh yeah?” Osamu playfully flicks a stray sesame seed in your direction. “You sure you didn’t just fall head over heels for Kozume-san?”

Your cheeks become warm. “W-what? Stop teasing me! It’s not like that!”

Your boss laughs at your flustered state. Feeling satisfied with your reaction, he changes the subject. “You know, him and Kuroo-san played volleyball in high school the same time I did.”

This piqued your interest. “Did you guys play any matches against each other?”

“Nah. I saw them around, but we never got the chance to play against each other. To be honest, my team was a bit more focused on facing the schools that had the top spikers in the nation.”

At the mention of talented spikers, something clicks in your memory. “Oh! I think there was someone in one of my classes that mentioned something about being on a volleyball team with a top ranked spiker. He said he’s an alumni from...Sarato...Shirata…”

“Shiratorizawa?” Osamu corrects.

You confirm with a nod. “Yeah! That was it!”

“Ah, Shiratorizawa...That team had some pretty interesting players and there was always some kind of commotion wherever they went. If I remember correctly, they had a guy that kind of looked like Benkei*.”

“That’s an interesting comparison.” You snort at this comment.

“If you ever saw him, you’d agree.” Osamu tied up the last trash bag and hefted it up onto his shoulder. You go ahead and wipe down the now empty trash can.

Placing the washcloth in the laundry pile, you start heading towards the back room to get ready to leave. “Well, point him out if he ever visits the shop, or any one of them for that matter. All of the people you’ve ever mentioned from your high school days seem to be entertaining.”

Osamu chuckled. “You have no idea.”

“hand over your heart”

image

Scenario: Comparing hand sizes with the kings of teasing ‘cause you’ve got much smaller hands that fit real nicely in their much larger hands. You’re basically having the opportunity to hold each of their hands and interlock your fingers for a sweet moment. I don’t make the rules. (individual scenarios)

Genre: F L U F F

Pairing: (Y/N) x Kuroo / (Y/N) x Hawks / (Y/N) x Gojou

A/N: This is dedicated to both the voice actor Nakamura Yuichi and my best friend! My friend absolutely adores this VA and I wanted to gift her a little something with a classic romance cliché and whatnot with some of her favorite anime characters. I’m sure some of these men if not all of them have a special place in your heart too. I hope everyone else is able to feel something like my friend did hehe

Kuroo

“So, the middle blocker-”

“Kuroo, I know what a middle blocker does.” You wave one of your hands at the tall volleyball player walking next to you while your other hand cradles a matcha mochi. “In fact, I know every volleyball position! I’ve been to some of your games, and you even made me watch that volleyball anime with you a couple years ago!”

You and the Nekoma captain are walking home after having a little group outing with the rest of the volleyball team. Today was their day off from practice, so you all decided to stop by a mochi ice cream shop after school. Kuroo was telling you about a practice game he had with Fukurodani’s volleyball team the other day. You don’t mind listening to him talk about volleyball at all, but it does get a bit repetitive when he forgets that he’s told you just about everything he knows about the sport.

“Right. Sorry, I guess I just got a bit excited to talk to you about it.” Kuroo rubs his neck sheepishly. He stuffs the rest of his own strawberry mochi into his mouth and proceeds to pout quietly.

The silence lasts for about a minute or two before you start fidgeting with your hands. It’s almost never silent when the two of you are together since you always have something to talk about with each other. You start to feel bad for losing your patience and let out an audible sigh. “Look. Sorry...I…”

Kuroo blatantly ignores your gaze and keeps his eyes forward, his bangs covering his expression. You try getting his attention once again. “I know a lot about volleyball, but I guess… I haven’t actually played before.”

You could’ve sworn that you saw Kuroo’s ear twitch from the corner of your eye, but choose to stay focused on what you want to say next. “We could go to the gym tomorrow and… maybe you could teach me?”

Now that definitely got the male’s attention. Kuroo’s eyes light up at the prospect of being able to play with you and teach you how to play the sport that he loves. He takes a large step in front of you and you have to hold out your arms so that you don’t bump into him. Your hands make contact with the male’s chest and you would be lying if you said you didn’t like how toned it was.

“I thought you’d never ask, (Y/N)!” Kuroo exclaims. “Let’s go right now!”

You blink twice before bewilderment casts over your expression. “Wait! Right now?!”

“Yeah! It’s too late to go to the gym, but we won’t really need anything else other than a volleyball!” At this point, Kuroo is almost hopping in place with excitement. Before you could properly react, he clasps one of your hands in his and starts running along the sidewalk.

“But, today’s your day off!” You try to find a way to slow down, but your much shorter legs are no match for his long limbs. “Shouldn’t you be resting?”

He just laughs.

“Kuroo!!”

The two of you stop by Kuroo’s house to pick up a volleyball and he finally tells you that he’s planning on having the two of you practice at a nearby park. Once you guys arrive, you both put down your belongings on a nearby bench and Kuroo immediately ushers you to start stretching.

“I don’t wanna overwhelm you with serving and blocking, so let’s just practice going over some basics.” Kuroo demonstrates how to do overhead tosses and receives and you try your best to follow his movements.

When you try to stand in a receiving position, something must’ve been off because there’s a slight frown on Kuroo’s face. You watch as he walks past you and positions himself directly behind you. Without hesitation, both of Kuroo’s arms slide on top of yours and move your arms to the correct form for receiving. Your mind wanders back to Kuroo’s toned chest which is basically resting against your backside. It takes everything in you to push aside how intimate the position was since it seemed like Kuroo was purely focused on teaching.

“You have to make sure your forearms are facing this direction or you won’t have good control of the ball.” Kuroo’s head is positioned right next to your ear and you involuntarily shiver at the feeling of his breath so close to you. You’re a little disappointed when he lets go of you and stands up straight again. Suddenly, your back misses the warmth.

Kuroo steps away from you and grabs the volleyball from the bench. “Alright! I think you’re ready to practice with the ball!”

The two of you pass the ball back and forth with overhand tosses for a bit and you’re pretty satisfied with your decent passes. Kuroo then gestures to try receiving the ball with your forearms, but then the passes start to become more unstable. At one point, you receive the ball so poorly that it flies over to an area that’s impossible for him to receive, landing on the ground after bouncing several times.

“Sorry about that!” You apologize.

Kuroo just jogs over to the volleyball to retrieve it. “No worries, (Y/N). You can’t become a pro overnight!”

The male picks up the ball with one hand and your eyes widen substantially. “How the hell are you doing that?”

“Doing what?” Kuroo stares at you with a confused expression as he makes his way back to where you’re standing.

You point at the volleyball in his arms adamantly. “You just picked up the ball with one hand!”

“Oh, it’s not that hard.” Kuroo holds out the ball so that it’s between the two of you. “Here, you try.”

For the next couple seconds, you try every method to pick up the volleyball with just one of your hands. You ultimately fail at every attempt and Kuroo begins to laugh at you in amusement. “Aw, how cute! Your hands are too small.”

You let out a little noise of annoyance. “Well, sorry if my fingers aren’t as freakishly long as yours, Kuroo. I’m quite happy with my hands the way they are, thank you very much!”

“Come on~ My fingers aren’t that long.” He then gently takes a hold of your wrist and places his hand against your own. Despite his words, your hands were significantly smaller than his. Kuroo’s hands practically engulfed your own. “They’re just long compared to your adorable fingers.”

In the midst of his teasing, Kuroo starts playing around with your fingers. You didn’t expect this at all, so you’re just left flustered at his ministrations. “A-are you trying to show off?”

The tall male lets out a quiet hum and finally interlocks his hand with yours. “Would you believe me if I told you I just wanted to hold your hand?”

Your cheeks are now fully tinted with a bright red blush. You’re surprised you could even let out a coherent sentence with the amount of blood rushing to your head. “I mean...it’s not like you have to ask to do that or anything…”

Kuroo gazes at your face for a moment in surprise, but a grin makes its way onto his lips after a couple seconds. “Oh? Then, does that mean I don’t have to ask to do this?”

He pulls your interlocked hands towards himself so that your whole body lurks forward. You stumble into his chest with a small thud and grab onto his shirt to keep yourself stable. He lays his other hand on your waist and successfully traps you in a tender hug. At first, you feel like your heart is about to burst from how fast it was beating. However, there was something so comforting and gentle about the hug that made you relax and feel completely at ease. You two stay like that silently for a bit as the evening sun sets beside you both.

Kuroo is the first to notice how late it’s gotten and decides that it would be a good time to walk you home. He begins to pull away when you suddenly tighten your grip on his shirt, your hands tugging at the hem.

“Can...can we stay like this for a bit longer?” You feel a bit embarrassed at your request, so you don’t look up at him and keep your head against his chest.

Kuroo looks down at you and smiles softly. Your hands are still interlocked and he moves his other arm so that it is now wrapped around you to pull you even closer. “Only if we can do this more often.”

A light breeze passes by, but instead of feeling the chilly air, all you feel is the warmth from both the sweet embrace and the little firecrackers igniting your heart.

Hawks

Your vision is blinded by a myriad of red feathers as Hawks lands beside you on the sidewalk outside of his agency building. You both greet each other with matching grins and it’s almost like the sun was shining brighter on this particular day.

The two of you often partner up when going on patrol since your respective agencies are situated in the same city. After bumping into each other on multiple occasions, you eventually became good friends and have found solace in patrolling together on slow days.

“Ever thought of walking out the front entrance like a normal person?” You ask him playfully.

“Where’s the fun in that?” Hawks just smirks as he retracts his wings. You shake your head with a small smile and make your way towards the male.

You’re a little surprised when you notice that Hawks was not wearing his usual black gloves with his hero costume. “What happened to your gloves?”

“The last villain I fought did quite a number on them and when I ordered new ones, the support company said it was gonna take about a week or so until they can send them to me because they’re a little behind on orders,” Hawks explains. You nod your head in understanding as the two of you start walking while keeping an eye out on your surroundings. Although, you’re internally celebrating about this new information.

During your patrols with Hawks, there have been a couple times when he’s left you behind to take on villains or rescue cases on his own. It didn’t bother you as much in the beginning, but you were soon getting tired of always picking up after the Wing Hero and filling in all the reports instead of saving civilians with your own efforts.

You’ve now picked up on the habit of latching onto some part of Hawks to make sure he doesn’t go off on his own, such as gripping onto a section of his jacket or linking your arms together. The one thing you always make sure to avoid holding onto, though, are his wings. You made that mistake once during a patrol when you were just starting to get comfortable around each other and he couldn’t look at you in the eyes for a couple days without the tips of his ears turning red.

More often than not, you choose to hold onto Hawk’s hands since they are one of your favorite things about him and you love playing with them. The only issue is that he almost always wears those pesky black gloves since they’re a part of his hero costume. Today seems to be your lucky day.

Your hand instinctively brushes up against Hawks’ fingers to grab onto them, but your body tenses up as the male flinches his arm back away from you. There’s a sharp sting of sadness in your heart at the idea that maybe Hawks didn’t actually want to hold your hand.

However, your negative thoughts are thrown right out the window as Hawks takes a hold of your hand and starts to squeeze your fingers back and forth repeatedly. There’s a slight look of concern on his expression. “Hey, you good? Your fingers are freezing.”

You let out an inaudible sigh of relief. “Oh, now that you mention it, it is a bit windy outside. My hand is probably really cold since I’ve been out longer than you have. Sorry about that.”

“Nah, it’s fine.” Hawks just brushes off your unnecessary apology. “Actually, you should’ve told me sooner!”

Without a moment to lose, Hawks extends his wings out slightly on the side you’re walking on, successfully shielding you from the incoming wind. He then stops his ministrations on your hand and just simply wraps his palms around it. His hands are significantly larger than yours so they practically engulf your entire hand and you feel a comforting warmth seeping into your fingers.

“Are your hands always this cold?” Hawks questions.

You shrug your shoulders. “I guess so? I don’t really notice since they’re pretty much always like this. You probably never noticed since you always wear your gloves when we’re patrolling.”

“You should invest in some hot packs or something.”

You pretend like you’re contemplating, but you already know what you want to say. “Hm...no thanks! I’d rather just hold your hand to keep mine warm!”

Hawks almost trips over his own feet at your response and his cheeks turn a little pink. In order to avoid your gaze, he lifts the collar of his jacket up a bit higher with his free hand and refuses to face you. You softly smile at his reaction and feel immensely satisfied at flustering the normally confident hero. The both of you just continue your patrol in a comfortable silence with warm hands and warm hearts.

~~~~~~
It’s the end of the day and you and Hawks are making your way back to his agency. The two of you were still holding hands, and at some point during the day, your hands became interlocked.
The day was pretty uneventful and there were only a few incidents, but you still needed to file reports of everything. At the end of your shift, Hawks practically begged you to help him with the paperwork. You were weak to his pouty face, so you reluctantly agreed.
As Hawks’ agency came into view, the man suddenly dropped his hand from yours and wrapped his arms onto your waist securely.
“What are you doing?” You ask with slight panic in your voice.
“Having fun~” Hawks smirks and before you know it, both of your feet are lifted off the ground. You let out a small yelp as Hawks flaps his wings and flies you to his office balcony.
After landing safely, you take a moment to catch your breath and Hawks makes a beeline for the couch. He plops into the plush cushions and you raise an eyebrow at him.
You make you way over to his relaxed form and cross your arms loosely. “Um...don’t you have some paperwork to do?”
“Don’t wanna.”
Hawks’ tone reminds you of a child and you just shake your head with a sigh. You know there’s no way you’re going to get him to do any work at this point, so you just join him on the couch and stare at the small Endeavor plushie sitting on one of his shelves near his desk. There’s a subtle warmth from where your shoulders are now touching and you’re almost tempted to just fall asleep right then and there. It wasn’t exactly easy for you to feel this comfortable with another person, so it’s a wonder how Hawks was able to worm his way into your heart. You definitely cared deeply for this man.
Not wanting to waste the precious moments you had with him, you just say the first thing that comes into your mind. “You know, you got pretty big hands.”
“Do I?” Hawks’ voice has a hint of amusement and you feel him shift his position so that he’s facing you.
You also sit up and direct your gaze at him. “Yeah, I’ll prove it. Hold up your hand.”
He lifts his hand curiously but stiffens when you place your palm directly against his and add a little bit of pressure. The two of you have held hands on so many occasions, but it always leaves his heart racing every time you touch.
The corners of your mouth curve upwards slightly. “See? Your hands are a lot bigger than mine!”
Hawks takes a brief moment to just gaze at you silently. His mind takes you in as a whole and he’s reminded of how much of an impact you’ve had on his life. His pupils flicker along each feature of your face before ultimately landing on your soft lips.
“Do you wanna compare our lips too? We could use the same method.”
Despite the urge to roll your eyes, all rational thoughts completely vanish from your mind as you immediately crash your lips against his lovingly.
Gojou
“Hey, (Y/N)! Come here for a sec!”
At the sound of Gojou’s voice, you look up from your phone to where the said male was flailing his arms at you. After pocketing your device, you walk over cautiously with one hand on the hidden dagger on your left hip. You never know what your crazy companion might pull on you, so it’s always better to be on guard. You’ve only made that mistake once and it still haunts you to this day. You muster up a strained smile as you approach him. “What’s up?”
The white-haired sorcerer raises his right hand into the air with his palm facing you. “Hold up your hand for me like this.”
You raise an eyebrow at him suspiciously but still lift your hand up as he asks. Once he gets his chance, Gojou pushes his palm forward to come in direct contact with your own. You tense a bit at the sudden touch, but relax when he doesn’t appear to make any other movements. There’s even a small part of you that enjoys how warm his hand is against your colder fingers.
You open your mouth to question his motives, but he beats you to it. “Ah~ It’s a wonder how you can put so much cursed energy into your punches with hands this small.”
A small angry tick mark appears on your forehead at the sudden comment. “Are you giving me permission to punch you?”
“Now, now. No need to get all heated up, dear (Y/N).” There’s a slight shift in Gojou’s expression because he’s well aware that you’d take any opportunity to land a blow on him. However, his amusement seems to subdue any of those thoughts as his face reverts back to his usual smirk.
You tense your leg muscles to deliver a well deserved kick to his shins, but you freeze up when you realize that Gojou is slowly interlocking with your fingers. He takes his time as he gradually curls his long digits around your palm. The gesture seemed a lot more intimate than you’d like to admit.
A sudden memory takes over your mind and you huff with unease. “You better not pull any of that infinity shit on me.”
“Now, why would you assume that?” Gojou replies in a teasing manner.
You scoff. “I heard what you did to that Krakatoa* demon a while back. Right after your little hand stunt, he was practically sent flying back to where he came from.”
If he didn’t have his blindfold on, you would definitely be able to see him wiggling his eyebrows at you. “Were you jealous?”
“Shut up, Gojou.”
“With pleasure, (Y/N).”
The two of you stand in front of each other with your hands still interlocked for another minute before you finally succumb to your impatience. “So, how much longer are we gonna be doing this? Is there a point to this?”
“I just wanted to hold hands with the woman that has captured my heart~” Gojou responds with no hesitation and confidence that leaves you shocked. You begin to sputter at the sudden confession and his smirk widens.
In an attempt to keep his attention, you lower your hand along with Gojou’s to face him more directly. “H-how can you just say that?! Don’t you feel even a little embarrassed?”
“I can say more!” The man just lets out a satisfied laugh at your uncharacteristically flustered state. “You’re the apple of my eye!”
“Can you even see with that blindfold?”
“Why do I need to see when you’re already running through my mind every day?”
“Okay, that’s enough.”
“You’re the beautiful girl of my dreams!”
“Gojou! Stop that!”
You shove his shoulder a bit with your unoccupied hand without much force and even a small giggle escapes your lips in mild amusement. It seems like even you can’t stop Gojou’s charms from making its way into your heart.
“I’m only being honest~ I’m a man of truths!” The man lights up at your smile and a wave of joy falls over him at your positive response to his words.
Feeling lighthearted, you gather up the courage to make a suggestion. “Alright, Mr. Man of Truths. Is it true that we’re going to grab dinner together after the mission for today?”
You feel him tighten his grip on your hand and find Gojou even more endearing when his thumb caresses the back of it.
“Most definitely.”
Onigiri Miya Tidbits Ch 10
You’re greeting yet another hungry customer during work, but your surroundings are a bit different from usual. Today, you stand behind the Onigiri Miya food stall at Kamei Arena Sendai. Osamu had planned to set up a stall for the V. League Championships event to promote his restaurant. Even though he won’t admit it, he is also here to support Atsumu.
The different setting isn’t the only thing that was new, however. Today, you had an extra worker helping out with the stall.
“Dai-kun, can you refill the Grilled Mentaiko and Salmon onigiris on the shelf?” You ask a male standing behind you while passing an order to the awaiting hands of a father and his child.
He jokingly salutes at you. “Aye aye, captain!”
Kimura Daisuke is a cousin of yours that is a year younger than you and has recently moved into town to transfer into the local university. He currently has an online tutoring job but has shown interest in working at Onigiri Miya around the time you’ll be leaving. Having your cousin assisting today is sort of like a trial run for your boss to assess. It’s also nice to have an extra pair of hands since the day was surely going to be very busy.
Osamu suddenly bumps your shoulder. “Have I already been replaced as the boss? Kimura-san seems to listen to you more than his potential employer.”
“I don’t know. Maybe you’re just slacking?” A small giggle leaves your mouth and he returns your smile.
It’s been a couple of weeks since that day. After Osamu had walked you home in the rain, he didn’t treat you any differently during work despite the slightly intimate moment you two had shared the night before. You couldn’t bring yourself to mention anything, so you decided to just act like nothing happened. It was honestly a bit of a relief since you don’t think you really have the mental capacity to deal with your feelings while trying to prepare for your new life in graduate school.
Your thoughts are cut short when you hear Osamu let out a noise of recognition. “Oh hey! It’s you, uh...from Karasuno! You were the one with that really nasty jump floater!”
A tall male with freckles scattered across his face responds to Osamu’s exclamation. “Ah. It’s Yamaguchi.”
Your boss snaps his fingers as he remembers something. “Oh yeeeah. This is Sendai. Duh. It’s your home turf.”
“Yeah. But, even if it wasn't being held here in Sendai, there’s no way I’d miss this game.” There’s a certain glint in Yamaguchi’s eyes.
Osamu grins knowingly. “I bet you wouldn’t.”
As the two look up at the Adlers vs. MSBY banner behind the food stalls, you decide to voice the question that had popped up in your mind when Osamu first greeted Yamaguchi. “Hey, you said you went to Karasuno, right? Does that mean you were teammates with Sho-kun? Or, uh, Hinata-kun?”
Yamaguchi is a little flustered when he realizes that you’ve been listening to the whole conversation but nods his head. “We were on the same volleyball team all three years of high school. Are you a friend of his?”
“Yup! I actually met him in Brazil and we’ve been good friends ever since. He’s told me a lot about his former teammates, but I’m just bad with names.”
He points to you in realization. “Oh! So, you’re the friend from Brazil! Hinata’s mentioned you a couple times when we talked over the phone.”
You chatted with Yamaguchi a bit more and even got to meet another girl named Yachi who had also been involved with Karasuno’s volleyball club. Eventually, they both had to leave since the game was starting soon and needed to meet up with a friend.
Once the Adlers vs. MSBY game commenced, there weren’t that many customers, so you were able to watch the majority of the game undisturbed. You were, however, surprised to see Akaashi when he came up to the stall to buy some onigiris. You haven’t seen him since your first day of work, so it was a bit comical to witness him slightly deflating when you mention that you haven’t told anyone about the tax incident.
For the rest of the game, the only sounds you make are ‘oohs’ and ‘aahs’ as you try your best to follow the fast pace (Although, you did meet a nice guy named Koganegawa who practically jumped like a child when you handed him his food). Even with all of the things you already know about the sport, this volleyball game was just too intense for you to digest everything. Before you knew it, the match was officially over with MSBY scoring the win. You felt proud of Hinata and was thoroughly impressed by all the other athletes you’ve come to know at work.
Osamu and Kimura both cheered in joy at the fantastic game as well. Even though you technically didn’t win anything, you still wanted to take advantage of the positive atmosphere, “Do you guys want to take a picture as a memory for this day?”
Your boss smiles. “Sure. I can take it with my phone. Get in!”
The three of you stand close to each other to get into the frame, with you being the middle. Osamu takes the picture and pulls it up to show you and your cousin how it turned out. Just as Osamu is about to take another photo, Kimura steps aside and you both look at him curiously.
“You guys should take a picture with just the two of you!” Kimura suggests.
You tilt your head in confusion. “What about you?”
“I just think you guys should take a picture together since you’re technically the ‘real’ workers...and some other things.” Your cousin mumbled the last part of his sentence, but you couldn’t ask him what he meant since he had already turned around to speak with someone at a nearby stall.
Both you and Osamu just shrug your shoulders at Kimura's explanation. Osamu puts his phone in a selfie position again and gestures for you to get closer. You comply and muster up the happiest smile you could make. The man beside you also produces a bright grin and snaps the picture. Afterwards, Osamu sends you both pictures and your expression softens.
Now that the game has concluded, there’s an influx of hungry customers that leave your stall busy for about an hour or so. Osamu has allowed Kimura to man the second register and your cousin has been doing fairly well for his first time on the job. After helping an elderly man with his order, the lunch rush seems to have finally died down.
You take off your apron and put it off to the side. “Osamu-san, Dai-kun. I’m gonna go to the bathroom. Will you guys be okay on your own for a bit?”
Kimura nods his head fervently.
Osamu waves his hand at you. “We’ll live.”
You snicker at his response and make your way into the closest restroom, which was actually a lot further than you expected. After taking care of your business, you walk out of the bathroom and see two male strangers loitering in the hallway, both adorning tracksuits of a team you can’t recognize. You attempt to walk past them unnoticeably but fail to do so when they stop conversing and stare at you with lingering eyes.
“Oh, hey there. You’re pretty cute.”
“Yeah. You got a boyfriend?”
The two men slowly walk over to where you’re standing and corner you against the wall from either side. You did not want to deal with this right now. “Doesn’t matter to you. Move out of the way.”
One of them scoffs and a drop of spit lands on your cheek. “What’s the big deal? We just complimented you. Can’t you see that we’re being nice?”
You wipe your face in disgust. “I’m trying to get back to work. Now, if you’ll excuse me.”
As you try to push past them, you feel a rough hand grip around your wrist tightly. Another arm threateningly wraps around your waist and your steps are halted. You struggle a bit to escape, but their holds are too constricting. In the back of your mind, you wish Osamu was there.
You grit your teeth. “Let me go.”
The one with the grip on your wrist uses his other hand to grasp your chin and you glare at his face. “Listen, we’re volleyball players. Isn’t it like every girl’s dream to hang out with cool athletes like us? Clearly, being nice isn’t enough, so we’ll just have to use force.”
Having had enough, your instincts tell you to raise your leg and get ready to kick one of them. Just as you’re about to wreak havoc, a new hand grabs onto the wrist of the man in front of you. The vice grip on the man’s wrist causes his hold on you to loosen. The arm on your waist also disappears and you don’t hesitate to pull away.
In your haste, you almost lose your footing but someone catches you and pushes you behind them. Your face is assaulted by a comforting citrus scent and you immediately know who you bumped into. Sure enough, when you look up, a freshly showered Hinata is standing in front of you. He’s staring at the men who were harassing you and you’ve never seen him carry such an angry expression.
When you finally take in your surroundings, another familiar figure comes into view, his blonde hair still wet from washing up after his recent game. The mysterious hand belonged to none other than Miya Atsumu. “Looks like we’ve got some pieces of shit that leaked out of the bathroom.”
Surprisingly, Ushijima was the one who had pulled the other guy away from your waist. “Indeed.”
Both of them glare at the harassers coldly. Starting to feel a bit threatened, the strangers step aside and begin walking down the hall while looking behind them. “Ugh, these guys are just from those big shot teams. We better run before we get banned from playing.”
The men started to pick up their pace but suddenly ran into another tall figure. When they look up, Kageyama is intensely staring them down in silence. The strangers’ faces pale at the sight of the Adler’s setter.
“Dude, that's Kageyama! I think we made him angry!”
“Fuck! S-sorry!”
The two practically sprinted away leaving behind a rather confused Kageyama. He has absolutely no idea why they ran away from him. Despite what had just conspired, you internally laugh at how unaware the male was.
“Are you okay, (Name)-san?” Hinata turns around and faces you. Any traces of anger had completely dissipated from his face. “They didn’t hurt you or anything?”
“I’m okay. I appreciate it, Sho-kun.” You give him a reassuring smile.
“Man, those guys are scum,” Atsumu says with clear irritation in his voice. Even through his irritation, you can still recognize the concern in his own eyes as he focuses his attention on you. “Lucky you had your knights in shining armor?”
“I’m perfectly capable of taking care of myself, Atsumu-san.” You raise your eyebrow at his words but wonder if this was his way of comforting you.
The blonde raises his hands in front of him in a defensive stance. “Oh, I know. I’m sure you can deliver a nice blow to the next guy that dares lay a hand on you, sweetheart.”
Ushijima speaks up from his usual quietness to give his own input to the conversation as he remembers a certain incident the first time he visited Onigiri Miya. “She has actually already done so to one of my former teammates.”
Atsumu smirks. “Well, damn.”
You get flustered for being exposed by the stoic spiker. “It was an accident!”
Before you could suffer any longer, the moment is interrupted by loud voices echoing the halls.
“Oh, wow! Are we finally gathering for that arm wrestling competition?” Spiky grey and black hair animatedly sway from side to side as Bokuto sees all of you together.
Behind him, Hoshiumi runs up to the group enthusiastically and starts to jump in place. “Oh, boy! Count me in!”
Kageyama blankly stares at his bird-like teammate. “Ah, Hoshiumi-san.”
With the addition of two more rowdy people into the group, Atsumu looks like he’s about to have a heart attack with the way he clutches his chest. “No, no! We’re doing this again?! What is this ‘let’s overwhelm the reader part 2’?!”
You have absolutely no idea what he was talking about and just shake your head in indifference. It was probably best to just leave him alone in his own strange distress.
Your movement catches Hoshiumi’s attention and the male waves his arm in greeting. “Oh, hey (Surname)-san! Did you watch our game? Did you see my skills?”
You giggle at his excitement. “I did. I was impressed by your jumping ability. You all played really well. ”
Bokuto perks up at your comment. “You have a pretty nice view from Myaa-sam’s stall, so you’ve seen all of my spikes too, right?!”
“Of course, Bokuto-san.” You briefly check your phone and realize that you’ve spent far too long going to the bathroom. “Speaking of ‘Myaa-sam’, I should probably head back to work.”
You quickly waved to all of the volleyball players and they each gave you their own warm goodbyes before walking back to their own locker rooms. However, one person stayed behind.
“I’ll walk you back, (Name)-san!” Hinata offers.
“You don’t have to. It’s not that far of a walk.” You put your hands in front of you.
He shakes his head and sends you a friendly grin, but a hint of concern is laced into his eyes. “Just in case.”
Understanding his worry, you nod and let him stay beside you as you start walking down the hallway. Right as you turn the corner, a figure wearing a face mask leaning against the wall startles you.
Hinata is momentarily shocked as well but relaxes when he realizes that it’s just another one of his teammates. “Omi-san? What are you doing here?”
Sakusa doesn’t answer Hinata and moves away from the wall to make his way towards you with his hands in his pockets. As soon as he’s in front of you, a single word leaves his mouth, “Hand.”
You’re confused but slowly lift up one of your hands anyways.
“No, the other one.” Sakusa looks at your other arm.
You comply and lift up your other hand instead and without warning, the masked man takes his hands out of his pockets and squeezes a generous amount of hand sanitizer on the wrist that was manhandled a couple minutes ago.
You stiffen at the sensation and just watch in bewilderment as Sakusa leaves without uttering another word. “What...just happened?”
Hinata softly smiles at the interaction. “That’s just how Omi-san shows he cares.”
“Me? Why would he care about me?” You ask.
“Hm...that’s something even I’m not too sure about. Omi-san can be pretty hard to read.” He places a finger on his chin in contemplation. You hum in understanding and spread the hand sanitizer around your wrist thoroughly.
Both of you continue walking back to the food stalls when Hinata comes up with an idea. “Since you’re here already, do you want to meet my former teammates from high school? They’re all staying for the whole duration of today’s games, so you can meet them after you finish work!”
“Are you sure?” There’s a small part of you that wants to meet the people who helped shape Hinata’s bright personality. “I wouldn’t want to impose on your reunion.”
“It’s no problem at all! We already kind of met up after the game, and I would love everyone to meet you since we’re also close friends! Kageyama will be there too, so you’ll know at least one other person.”
You give it another moment of thought before answering, “Alright. I’d love to meet them.”
You finally make it back to the Onigiri Miya stall after what felt like hours even though you’ve only been gone for a little while. Osamu nods his head at you first and Kimura vocally welcomes you back.
“Ah, I was wondering what was holding you up.” Your boss turns his attention to Hinata and gives him a pat on the shoulder. “Hey, man. Good game out there.”
“Thanks, Miya-san!” Your orange haired friend gives you a quick hug. “I’ll see you later, (Name)-san!”
“See ya, Sho-kun! I’ll text you when I’m free.”
Once Hinata leaves, it’s just the three of you behind the stall once again. Osamu claps his hand loudly and glances at his two co-workers. “Ready for round 2 of the pre-game lunch rush?”
“Yes, sir!” Both of your voices respond back in unison and you all get to work.
Onigiri Miya Tidbits Ch 10
All three of you let out a final huff as you finish packing up all of the supplies and equipment used for the stall. You’ve been working nonstop for a couple hours now, but the day is finally over and everything has been cleaned up.
“You said you were meeting up with those Karasuno folks, right?” Osamu questions. “You can head over to meet them now.”
“But, what about all of this stuff?” You point at all of the boxes and tables you’d just organized.
“Kimura-san and I can take care of it. I rented out a van to move everything, so we’ll just borrow two carts to avoid any second trips,” your boss explains. He walks behind you and gently places his hands on your shoulders. “Don’t worry about us and go do your thing.”
Without much room to argue, you’re pushed away from the stalls. “Okay, okay. I’m going. I’ll see you tomorrow, Osamu-san. See you around, Dai-kun!”
Both men respond back with a shout of their own and part ways. You quickly shoot a text to Hinata telling him that you’re done. Your friend messages back immediately and lets you know where everyone was meeting up.
It wasn’t too difficult to find the Karasuno alumni since their group stood out quite a bit from others. You were able to spot Hinata first because of his apparent orange hair and even Kageyama’s furrowed eyebrows have become common enough for you to recognize. You walk over to where they are and try to position yourself in your friend’s line of vision.
“(Name)-san, you’re here!” Hinata makes eye contact with you and cuts off the conversation he’s having with a tall blonde to greet you. “Our old coach left with our kouhais since it was getting late, but most of my former teammates are here.”
Now, you’ve caught everyone’s attention and feel a bit flustered. “Um...hello. I’m Sho-kun’s friend, (Surname) (Name).”
There’s a brief pause and you wonder if you’ve already done something wrong. Suddenly, a chorus of ‘hellos’ and ‘nice to meet yous’ fill your ears and you’re slightly overwhelmed by the enthusiastic greetings.
A broad shouldered man approached you first with two other people following closely behind. He holds out his hand and you place your own in his for a handshake. The handshake is firm yet comforting. “It’s finally nice to meet you, (Surname)-san! I’m Sawamura Daichi, former captain of the Karasuno Boys’ Volleyball club.”
The grey haired man with a mole under his eye introduced himself next, “Sugawara Koshi! Hinata’s told us a bit about you, so it’s nice to finally be able to put a face to the stories. This guy next to me is Azumane Asahi; he’s a bit of a shy one.”
“S-Suga! I’m not like how I was in high school anymore. Stop teasing me!” Asahi whined to his friend before turning to you once again. “I’m Azumane Asahi.”
The rest of the group took turns introducing themselves and you were delighted to see Yamaguchi for the second time today (Although, you’re not sure why Kageyama introduced himself again since you’ve already met before). You felt more comfortable knowing that you weren’t the only girl in the group, but you’d be lying if you said that Kiyoko didn’t seem a bit intimidating with her beauty. Even Yachi’s cuteness almost blinded you.
You were in the middle of telling Yachi and an uncaring Tsukishima how you’d met Hinata in a foreign country when the man named Tanaka let out a shout to get everyone’s attention, “Guys! Noya-san wants to video chat!”
Most of the guys crowded around Tanaka’s phone and eagerly waited for ‘Noya-san’ to appear on the screen. It wasn’t long before a man with spiky dark hair and a tuft of blonde popped up a little too close to the camera. “Ryu! Everyone! What’cha guys been up to?! I caught a Marlin this morning!”
“Nishinoya! We’re doing great! We’re just meeting up for a bit before we have to leave. Hinata brought his friend too!” Daichi responds.
At the mention of a new friend, Nishinoya’s eyes light up. “Oh! Who are they? Can I meet them?”
Tanaka shifts his phone so that you’re the only one visible on camera. Feeling a bit awkward, you just give a slight wave. “Uh...hello, I’m (Surname) (Name).”
For a minute or two, the male just stares at you with wide eyes. You have no idea what to do, so you just stand still and hope for someone to intervene. Nishinoya is the first to speak and his tone turns serious, “Ryu, take me to Shoyo.”
Tanaka turns the phone to Hinata who is just as confused about the sudden change in demeanor. Once the focus is on the MSBY spiker, Nishinoya holds out his arm in front of him as if he were virtually holding the younger man’s shoulder. “You’ve done well, my young disciple.”
Hinata blinks. “Huh?”
The audio almost cuts off as Nishinoya yells his next few words, “SHE’S GORGEOUS!”
Your cheeks turn bright pink at his exclamation as the rest of the guys laugh at their friend’s antics. You weren't sure whether to feel embarrassed or flattered by the compliment.
Luckily, the excessive attention on you is short-lived as Nishinoya switches to another topic. “Should I send you guys some souvenirs? I saw this strange mask that kind of looked like Ryu from high school, and I think you guys would really like it!”
Tanaka looks amused and begins to smirk when a sudden idea pops into his head. “Noya-san, you should definitely get Daichi-san one of those!”
Daichi begins to panic. “What do you mean, Tanaka? What are those?”
“Ah, yes!” Sugawara mischievously grins. “I think he’ll like one of those!”
At this point, Asahi is nervously sweating.
Hinata looks up at Kageyama, perplexed. “Kageyama, do you know what they’re talking about?”
“No, dumbass.”
“What?! Why’d you have to add ‘dumbass’?!”
“‘Cause that’s what you are.”
A new voice pitches in. “Oh? Is the tyrant back for his new reign?”
“Tsukki!”
You’re standing off to the side with Kiyoko and Yachi, sweatdropping at the chaos enfolding in front of you. “Were...were they always like this?”
“Yeah...they haven’t really changed, huh.” Yachi lets out a lighthearted sigh. Kiyoko laughs softly.
It takes a couple minutes before everyone calms down, and Tanaka eventually ends the call with Nishinoya. It doesn’t even take a second before Sugawara makes a suggestion. “Hey, guys! We don’t know when we can all meet like this again, so let’s take a group picture!”
Tanaka jumps in agreement. “That sounds like a great idea!”
“I can take the picture,” you offer and Sugawara passes you his phone gratefully.
Hinata steps to the spot next to you. “Are you sure you don’t want to be in the picture too?”
There’s no way you’d feel comfortable butting into their picture, so you shake your head. “No, it’s fine. This is your reunion. I promise I’ll take some nice pictures.”
Everyone gets into position and you take multiple photos while making sure to capture all of their comical poses. Once everyone is satisfied, the group relaxes.
Daichi checks his watch and musters a tired sigh. “Alright. I should probably head back to work. I’m up for a night shift today.”
“I have to go too. I have a couple exams that still need to be graded by tomorrow.” Sugawara stretches his arms upwards. “We should definitely eat together next time!”
Everyone seems to agree to call it a day which is your cue to leave as well. “It was nice meeting you all.”
Asahi smiles at you. “Same here! If anything, we’re glad Hinata was able to find a good friend while he was in Brazil. We were all pretty worried about how he would fare in a new country.”
Hinata rubs the back of his head bashfully and you share a knowing look with him. “He helped me out just as much, so I’m glad too.”
Onigiri Miya Tidbits Ch 10
After parting with the Karasuno alumni, you stopped by the bathroom before heading out. It seems like the universe has decided that you haven’t had enough chaos today when a shadow looms over you and a chill washes over your body.
You quickly turn around ready to chuck your bag at the mysterious entity but stop yourself when you make eye contact with yet another familiar individual. He’s once again in a professional black suit alongside his usual bedhead. “What the f-! Kuroo-san?”
Said male smirks. “In the flesh. How have you been, register girl?”
“What are you doing here?” Your body relaxes, but your mind is still sharp since you never know what the man is plotting.
“I work for the Japan Volleyball Association. I think it would be natural for me to be at a volleyball game, “ Kuroo explains nonchalantly.
“Could you not sneak around like some horror movie creature?”
“Oho! Already so sassy and we’ve only met once before!”
“You just give off a sassable vibe.”
“I’ll take that as a compliment.”
“Whatever you want it to be.”
“Are you dating him yet?”
Kuroo’s sudden change in topic catches you completely off guard and almost stumble in place even though you’re not even walking. “...who?”
He lets out a pitiful sigh at your uncertain answer. “Poor guy…”
You’re confused as to why Kuroo’s acting like this, so you just stare at him blankly. He doesn’t seem to want to answer your unasked question and instead brings up another subject. “Well, if you’re still single, you wouldn’t happen to be interested in a guy that streams online and is also a CEO of a company?”
“If you’re trying to set me up with who I think you’re trying to set me up with, then it’s gonna have to be a no,” you quickly reply. Kuroo looks a little disappointed and you feel a bit bad for shutting him down so harshly. “Not that Kod- Kozume-san is a bad guy or anything. I just...don’t think getting in a relationship right now would be a good idea. I’m gonna be super busy and I won’t be here for much longer anyways.”
The lanky man’s expression shifts to one of curiosity. “You going somewhere?”
You suppose you should get used to explaining yourself since you’ve only told a handful of people about your future plans. “I’m going to a graduate school a couple hours away, so I’ll be out of this area in a few months.”
“What are you studying?’
“Sports medicine.”
Kuroo lets out a low whistle. “Never took you as the type to study something sports related, but that’s pretty cool.”
He reaches into the pocket of his blazer and takes out a business card. He offers it to you with a smirk on his face. “Here’s my business card. My number’s on it.”
You raise your eyebrows at his gesture and cautiously take the card. “I still have your number from when you sent me pictures, remember?”
His eyes lighten up at your revelation. “I’m flattered that you never deleted it. Pass this to a friend of yours if you’d like then.”
“Is there a reason you wanted to give me your business card?” You place the card in your bag for safe keeping.
Kuroo’s face softens. “Give me a call after you graduate. I can hook you up with a few connections for a job.”
Your eyes widen at the unexpected kindness. You’ve only met the guy twice, but he’s already offering to do something so helpful. If you didn’t already know the people he surrounded himself with, you would have definitely been more suspicious of him. “That’s...really nice of you. Thanks, Kuroo-san.”
“Anything for my best friend’s number one fan.” He points to the Bouncing Ball keychain dangling from your bag and you feel a bit shy. The man then places a hand to his chest and lifts his other arm to the side. “Plus, I’m always this kind.”
“Oh, I’m sure.”
The two of you exchange amused expressions before you finally head out of the building. The night air is refreshing after spending an entire day inside of a crowded gymnasium. Despite the variety of personalities that you’ve met in a span of less than an hour, you’re walking off feeling strangely at ease.
You’re quite proud of the quaint little cat café you opened up a few months back near the outskirts of Tokyo. All of the customers love the arrangements of pastries and cookies complementing the many types of coffees and teas that you sell. To top it off, there are six different cats roaming around the shop to keep anyone and everyone company during their stay.
It’s near the end of the work day, only an hour left before closing, and you’ve just handed off the last muffin available to a kind elderly woman. You sweetly smile at her and let out a huff of breath once she leaves. Normally, you work with one other coworker, but they had called out for about a month or so last week due to a family emergency. You were pretty confident that you would be able to take care of everything on your own since your café was pretty small with a limited menu, but it’s still been a pretty rough couple days.
Just as you’re contemplating on sitting down for a quick break, the bell above the door rings signaling that a customer has entered. With your best customer service smile plastered on your face, you turn towards the approaching individual.
“Welcome to Cat-alyst!”
A tall, attractive man confidently walks up to the counter dressed in a sleek, grey suit that catches the attention of a few customers from their tables. Despite the professional outfit and posture, what probably stands out the most is his gravity-defying spiky, black hair that could pass as bed head. The dichotomy is actually quite charming in your opinion.
It takes everything in you to avoid ogling at the sharpness of the man’s jawline or the broad shoulders fitted perfectly into his jacket. “What would you like to order today?”
“I’ll take a black coffee and a danish pastry with custard filling.”
He pays with his card and you hand him his pastry. “Name for your order?”
“Oh, it’s K-”
Before the man could finish, he suddenly freezes in place and quickly looks down near his feet. It seems he was startled by one of the cats rubbing up against his leg.
You laugh and lean against the counter to look down on the black Bombay cat that has yet to move away from your customer. “Kuro! What are you doing all the way over here?”
The man’s head snaps up in your direction with wide eyes.
“Sorry about that. He’s not usually this affectionate with newcomers,” you comment as you turn your attention back to the customer. “What did you say your name was?”
The black haired male strangely hesitates for a moment before sporting a suspicious smirk. “Tetsurou.”
“Alrighty, Tetsurou. I’ll let you know when your drink is ready.”
You think you see a small tinge of pink on his cheeks, but it’s gone just as quickly as it appeared. Must’ve been your eyes playing tricks on you again. It’s been a long day.
He walks to the side and the cat follows him. The feline takes this chance to quickly climb the male’s long figure all the way onto his shoulders and simply drapes around his neck comfortably. You’re too busy with the order to notice him subtly sneezing into his arm a few seconds later.
You cap off the black coffee and smile as you hold out the drink. “Tetsurou!”
He pockets his phone and scratches your cat’s ears leisurely as he takes his coffee with his free hand.
“Why don’t you take Kuro with you while you sit? He’s always been my favorite too.” You reach up to gently pet the cat and he purrs at the attention. “Kuro’s such a good boy.”
This time, you definitely catch the man’s cheeks blossoming in a brilliant shade of red and he refuses to make eye contact with you.
“R-right. I’ll just, um, take him with me. Right now.”
You’re not sure what made him so flustered, so you just shrug your shoulders and get back to work as he walks away to one of the nearby tables without another word.
The next half hour goes by slowly as fewer and fewer customers stop by for the day. The man you know as Tetsurou sneaks a few glances in your direction when he thinks you’re not looking and you try not to act like you notice. It’s a bit difficult to do that though when his glances are accompanied by slightly watery eyes and not-so-subtle sniffles. You’ve seen more than a handful of people having the same reaction when they visit your café for more than a couple minutes.
Is he…allergic?
You’re wiping off one of the tables nearby when you see him stand up and throw away his empty cup. You cringe a bit when his voice comes out a bit nasally as he speaks to the black cat that’s still lounging next to him. “Sorry, little guy. I have to go now.”
Putting your cleaning rag to the side, you dig into your apron pocket and pull out a packet of tissues that you keep with you for emergencies. “Here, take one. Are you alright? You don’t seem to be having the best time of your life coming to a cat café with allergies.”
“No worries. I’m just fine and dandy,” he replies before sniffling once more for emphasis. He still takes a tissue gratefully and your hands briefly brush against each other. His hand is significantly larger than yours and there’s a warmth to them that almost makes you want to never let go. But alas.
Before you could pull back, he quickly grabs something from his back pocket and places it onto your palm. Based on the size and shape of the object, you don’t even have to look down to realize that he had just handed you his business card. His sharp eyes squint at something on your uniform before grinning. “I like your naming sense. See you around, (L/N).”
He turns to leave while you’re still dumbstruck by his sudden words and blinding smile. The chime of the bells above the door snap you out of your trance and the last thing you see is his back beyond the glass. You finally take the time to look down at the business card and read the text.
“Oh.”
His name is Kuroo.
image
It hasn’t even been 24 hours since you met human Kuroo, so you’re surprised to see him back at the café so soon. He walks in his all-suited glory once again an hour before closing, eyes searching for you expectedly.
You give him a smile that’s a bit more genuine than the one from yesterday as he walks towards the counter. “You’re back.”
“Indeed, I am. I’ll have a black coffee and a chocolate croissant today,” Kuroo responds.
“I got you.”
Similarly to yesterday, your cat Kuro runs up to the tall male and doesn’t hesitate to greet him with head rubs.
“It seems like Kuro…um…that might be a bit confusing.” You twirl a piece of your hair as you sweatdrop at the predicament.
The businessman chuckles. “Tetsurou is just fine.”
His words catch you a bit off guard, especially now that you know his full name, but you mentally tell yourself to calm down. You’re not some lovesick teenager that gets overly flustered by using someone’s first name. You’re both fully grown adults. “Then, (Y/N) is fine by me too.”
“Cool.”
“Cool.”
Shit.
“I’ll go get your coffee for you now.” Your words are mumbled as you quickly grab his desired pastry from the display and pass it to him, avoiding any eye contact. “Enjoy the croissant!”
Kuroo doesn’t utter another word and simply pets the Bombay cat and intentionally avoids making contact with his face. The feline tries to climb his human counterpart just like yesterday but is stopped by a persistent hand each time.
When you return to the counter with Kuroo’s coffee, you sigh at his failed attempt to stop a sneeze after you hand him the drink. “If you’re struggling so much, wouldn’t it make more sense to go to a different café? I’m sure black coffee isn’t that hard to come around.”
Kuroo brings a hand up to rub at his neck sheepishly. “I just…really like cats.”
His wistful tone makes you pause for a moment. There must be more to his stubbornness than you know, but hey, that’s none of your business. All you really need to do is make sure all of your customers are happy and satisfied. Although, a little teasing wouldn’t hurt.
“Are you sure you’re not allergic?”
“I’m paw-sitive.”
Cue your eye roll. Alright, that’s the end of that conversation.
You look at him for a moment and Kuroo meets your gaze curiously. “I can take Kuro off your hands for now while you get yourself a seat. Do you mind waiting for a bit? I’ll be right back.”
The man looks like he wants to ask you something but stops himself and simply nods his head. You quickly take your black cat to the back room and gently pick up one of the cats that have been resting on the cat tower. Kuroo raises an eyebrow as you walk towards him with a brown cat that he hasn’t met yet.
“This little friend is Chestnut. She’s a Burmese cat and they’re known for being hypoallergenic,” you explain as you place Chestnut into Kuroo’s arms.  “You can hang out together for as long as you’d like and you shouldn’t have any issues.”
Kuroo looks at you with stars in his eyes. “Thanks. I really appreciate it, (Y/N).”
“Anytime, Tetsurou.” You give him a warm smile. “Let me know if you need anything.”
Kuroo stays in the café until closing and he’s significantly less red-eyed and sniffly than yesterday when he finally stands to leave. He’s the last customer inside, so you’re a little less embarrassed to walk up to him and tell him what’s been sitting on your mind since yesterday. “I can text you a list of antihistamines that you can take the next time you come by. You’ll be able to pet Kuro and some of the other cats if you’d like?”
Kuroo smirks. “Is this your way of asking for my number, (Y/N)?”
“You already gave me your number, genius.” You roll your eyes and fish out his business card that you’ve conveniently kept in your apron since the day before.
The man’s ears flush red at your words and scratches his cheek awkwardly. “Right. Then, I guess I’ll be waiting for your text.”
Your heart flutters at the prospect of him looking forward to a message from you, even if your original intention was just to send him medication recommendations. Jeez, that sounds lame.
But, with the way he warmly winks at you before leaving gives you a little hope for something more.
image
For the rest of that week, Kuroo visits all of the days you’re open and you can tell he’s been taking the antihistamines you told him about because of how well he’s interacting with all the cats. He’s pretty adamant about stopping by your shop at the same time every day too and you assume he stops by after work.
It’s now the middle of the third week since his first visit and Kuroo hasn’t shown up for a few days. You’re a bit worried at his sudden absence, but something stops you from texting him to see how he is. You’re still not really sure where your relationship lies and you’ve never met up outside of the café.
You’re just about to start putting up the chairs when the bell above the door rings behind you. Without turning around, you muster up an irritated greeting, “Welcome to Cat-alyst! We literally close in like 5 minutes.”
You hear a familiar burst of laughter come from the customer that just entered and it causes you to snap your attention towards the door. Sure enough, Kuroo is standing by the door in his suit, but something seems a bit different. You’ve become so used to his neat outer appearance that it catches you off guard when you notice his disheveled form. His jacket unevenly sits over a coffee-stained button down and his slacks are slightly wrinkled. His bed head seems even more chaotic than usual, so he’s definitely had a long day, if not week.
“Yeah, you’re right. My bad. I can stop by next time,” Kuroo responds apologetically.
He’s just about to turn around when your voice cuts him off. “W-wait! Um…it’s okay. I can get you something to drink and let you hang out for a bit. You look like you might need it.”
“I wouldn’t want you to work overtime just for me. I’d be staying past closing.”
You wave off his concern. “I don’t mind. Let me just finish taking care of some chores and we can just chill? I’ll even grab myself a drink too.”
Kuroo gives you a hopeful smile. “Sure.”
As you flip the open sign around and make your drinks, Kuroo walks over to an empty table. You get slightly distracted when he takes off his suit jacket and places it on the back of the chair before sitting down and crossing his legs. He pulls up his sleeves and cuffs them near his elbows. His fit, yet slim body almost makes you swoon and the veins running along his forearms have never looked more appealing on anyone else.
When Kuroo suddenly looks up, you let out a small noise of embarrassment for getting caught staring and quickly get back to focusing on the drinks. If you had looked up one more time, you would’ve noticed his smirk accompanied by reddened cheeks.
With two warm mugs in your hands, you head over to Kuroo who’s now petting both Yuki, the white Ragdoll, and Shark, the grey Russian Blue. When you place his mug on the table, he thanks you.
You sit across from him. “Long day?”
“It was shit,” Kuroo replies. He takes the mug into his hands and stares down into the liquid that most definitely does not look like his usual coffee.
You look away nervously. “It’s a decaf green tea. You didn’t specify what you wanted and I thought it might be good to go without so much caffeine for the night.”
He takes a sip of the tea and hums with content. “It’s good. I probably should lay off the caffeine a bit, especially after work.”
The two of you take a moment to relax a bit in the comfortable silence as you enjoy your respective teas while the cats lay across the floor. Despite the tranquil atmosphere, you have a  strong desire to converse more with Kuroo and listen to his witty, yet kind words. “So tell me, what’s got you so exhausted this fine evening? Spill the tea if you will.”
Kuroo chuckles at your choice of words and you think you like that sound a lot. “Just an asshole coworker that’s lacking in docosahexaenoic acid.”
“Says the guy with a cat allergy that decided to frequent a cat café.”
“Shh. I thought we were past that.” Kuroo feigns offense before shifting his expression to one that was significantly softer. “Plus, I’m not just here for the cats.”
“Oh?” Your cheeks flush at the insinuation. “Care to explain?”
“Well, I have a day off tomorrow and I know you’re closed on Thursdays, so maybe I could tell you more if you let me take you out for lunch?” He runs a hand through his hair with confidence, but the slight twitch in his eyebrow gives away his nervousness.
You already know what your answer is going to be, but you purposefully place a hand under your chin as if you were still contemplating on a decision. You hold back a laugh when you see Kuroo shift in his seat with anticipation.
“I’d love to.” You place your hands back on your mug to distract your attention from the warmth on your cheeks to the warmth in your fingers instead.
Kuroo’s smile widens at your words. “Great! There’s actually a nice onigiri place pretty close by. An old friend of mine is the owner and I think you’ll like the food.”
“Can we meet here and walk there together? I’d like to check up on the cats before we head out,” you ask.
“Fine by me.”
You smile.
“Then, it’s a date.”
You head over to the café about half an hour before your lunch date and step into the back room where all the cats rest during off hours. Chestnut and Yuki, who are already awake and roaming, come to greet you at the door. Shark and Kuro are playing with some toys, while your orange Persian cat, Carrot (aka Bastard), is still snoozing away in his bed. The only young kitten of your café, a Siamese cat named Almond, is nowhere to be seen, and you become a bit worried since he’s usually the first to greet you.
A muffled sneeze from one of the cat towers catches your attention and you look into one of the enclosed compartments. Sure enough, you see Almond laying on his side and he looks up at you lethargically. You bring a hand inside and carefully take him out. Now that you can see him in better lighting, you notice his inflamed eyelids and the discharge around his eyes. The poor baby looked sick.
Without another moment to lose, you quickly grab a small cat carrier and a few blankets before placing Almond inside and locking it up. You rapidly check up on the other cats to make sure they look healthy too. Afterwards, you call a taxi to come pick you up as you walk outside the café and lock the doors.
After you get in the taxi and give the address for the nearest vet, you remember that you were supposed to meet up with Kuroo soon. You curse under your breath at the situation and pull up his number on your phone.
The call rings once before he picks up. “Hey, I’m about 10 minutes away from the café. What’s up?”
“Hey, Tetsurou. I’m really sorry, but we’re going to have to cancel lunch. Almond got sick and I’m heading over to the vet right now. I know I might be overreacting a little, but he’s still so young, so I don’t want to risk it.”
“Oh, shit. No problem at all, (Y/N). Let me know if there’s anything you need and keep me updated if you can. I want to know if the little guy is okay.”
“Will do. Thanks, Tetsurou.” You hang up the phone just as the taxi pulls up to your destination. You pay the driver and quickly go through the process of admitting your kitten. Thankfully, today’s been a slow day, so the front desk is able to get the vet to check up right away without an appointment.
Once the vet gets a look at Almond, you’re finally able to let out a sigh of relief when they tell you that the kitten is experiencing a pretty common upper respiratory infection that can be treated at home. The vet sends you off with a couple medications and instructions that don’t seem too difficult to follow. It hasn't even been an hour since you left the café, but you’re already set to leave with Almond.
You call another taxi and make your way back to the café with a peaceful, sleeping kitten next to you but not before shooting a quick text to Kuroo about any updates on the situation. He doesn’t respond right away, so you just pocket your phone and look out the window.
During the drive, you can’t help but feel upset at the missed opportunity to spend time with the man that’s caught your interest, but you don’t feel comfortable leaving Almond alone, especially since you have to keep him isolated from the rest of the cats.
As the car approaches the café, your eyebrows raise in surprise when you see a tall figure standing in front of the entrance. There’s no mistaking that the lone person is the one and only Kuroo Tetsurou waiting for you and wearing casual clothes for the first time since you’ve met him. You’re so used to his formal attire that his casual wear makes you fall for his looks all over again. He’s wearing a black t-shirt with dark jeans and black running shoes. His hair is not as styled but still looks put together, and he just looks…ready for a date.
When you exit the taxi, you notice that he’s holding a plastic bag that has an unfamiliar logo with the name Onigiri Miya written on the bottom. The two of you make eye contact and stand in front of each other for a few moments.
Kuroo’s the first one to break the silence, “I know you said you didn’t want to leave the cats unattended and you probably haven’t eaten yet, so I thought I’d bring the lunch to you. If you’re still down?”
Your heart swells at the gesture and you find yourself unconsciously nodding your head with a smile. “Let me just take care of some things first and then we can dig in.”
Kuroo follows you inside the building and sets the food down as you let the other cats out in order to clean up any potentially contaminated items.
“Need any help?” Kuroo asks as he watches you run around to finish your tasks as soon as possible.
“No, it’s okay! I’m pretty much finished. You can- ah!” A yelp escapes your lips when one of the cats suddenly runs in front of your legs and you have to maneuver your body to the opposite direction. You were able to avoid stepping on the cat, but it caused you to lose your footing. Fortunately, you’re not falling for long when a strong pair of hands grasp onto your shoulders as your face bumps into a hard surface. You’re disoriented for another few seconds, but the arms around you keep you secure.
Once you catch your bearings, you turn your head towards the feline culprit. “Bastard! I told you not to run around like that.”
You can practically see the orange cat smirking as he gets comfortable in his usual spot on the cat tower.
A voice above you startles you out of your one-sided conversation. “I thought his name was Carrot?”
“That’s what I officially changed his name to when he was first brought here since I couldn’t have kids running around calling for ‘Bastard’. I still call him Bastard, though, since he’s a cheeky one.” You grin as you look up at Kuroo, but your smile quickly disappears once you realize what position you were in.
Kuroo’s arms have yet to leave your side and your chests are close enough to feel your racing heartbeats syncing up. The two of you are lost in each other’s gazes and his eyes occasionally flicker towards your lips. You both unknowingly lean closer until your faces are only a few inches apart. Your eyes flutter closed when you suddenly feel something furry against your mouth that most definitely does not feel like another pair of lips.
When you snap your eyes open, the first thing you notice is Kuroo’s close proximity and wide eyes looking just as confused as you were. When both look down, you see a small black paw slotted between your lips. Apparently, while you both were distracted, your Bombay cat had climbed on top of the man’s shoulders again and decided it would be a great day to be a menace.
With a little bit more awareness, you pull away from Kuroo with bright cheeks and the man’s own cheeks mirror yours. You point at the food sheepishly. “Maybe we should eat?”
“Y-yeah.”
You both sit across from one another and take an onigiri from the pile. You must have been hungrier than you thought because the moment you take a bite, the only thing that floods your mind is the delectable taste of a perfectly seasoned rice ball. “This is amazing.”
“Right? I’m really glad they opened up a shop in Tokyo. I always stopped by Onigiri Miya whenever I visited Miyagi,” Kuroo responds just as content with the taste.
“I’m guessing you bought these from the place we were supposed to have lunch at?”
“Yeah. I didn’t want you to miss out, so here we are.”
“We can’t seem to meet up anywhere away from this café, huh,” you comment humorously.
“Not a problem. We’ve got more opportunities to go out together in the future.” Kuroo smirks. “As a matter of fact, I’m free Sunday night, and I know a good ramen place for dinner.”
“I’d like that.” You then point your finger at him teasingly. “You sure you’re not allergic to ramen though?”
Kuroo snorts and pretends to make the gesture to slap your hand away but instead lightly grabs your hand and links your fingers together smoothly. The next hour is spent getting to know each other more and sharing stories of your lives. Throughout the whole time, your hands never stray far from each other.
At some point, you get up to brew some green tea and you both migrate to a carpeted part of the floor to sit closer to the cats. You opt to sit next to Kuroo, shoulder to shoulder, and your hands find his again.
Good food, good cats, and good company. Despite the slight mishap in the morning, you’d say this was a pretty good date.
One year later
Kuroo doesn’t come to the café every day, but he stops by enough that all of your regulars know him by name. The rest of the customers mainly know him as ‘that one tall, handsome man with the ridiculous bed head who’s dating the owner’. He still comes in near the end of work hours, but now that your coworker is back, you have more flexibility in spending time with him.
Today, Kuroo had texted you earlier that his meeting was being extended, so he probably wouldn’t be able to make it to the café. It’s now past closing time and your coworker had already left since you were in charge of locking up for the night. You’re sitting in the back room feeling a bit sad that you couldn’t see Kuroo today, but those feelings were immediately alleviated when feline Kuro jumps onto your lap and rubs his head against your chest in comfort.
Your heart melts at the cuteness and you pet him lovingly. “You’re right, Kuro. Who needs men when I have you?”
The black cat meows as if responding in agreement.
You bring him closer to your chest and nuzzle his face while cooing. “I love you, Kuro.”
The sound of a plastic bag dropping on the ground startles you and the cat on your chest jumps away in fright. Your head quickly turns towards the door and you see your boyfriend standing stock still, a familiar bag from Onigiri Miya sitting at his feet. He’s completely red from the bottom of his neck to the tips of his ears and he’s sporting an endearing expression on his face.
For a moment, you’re confused as to why he was so flustered, but you realize that it’s the first time he’s ever heard you say that special three word phrase. He’s said it to you a few times now, but he has yet to hear it from you directly. Technically, you hadn’t even said it to him directly this time, but…right. His name is Kuroo too.
“I-I meant the cat! My cat that is named Kuro! Black cat Kuro! Not that I wouldn’t say it to you, um…” Your rambling just seems to make the situation more awkward.
Kuroo is the first to recover and he walks over to where you are while holding out a hand for you to take, abruptly silencing you and lifting you to your feet. “No worries. You can say whatever you’d like whenever you’re ready, (Y/N).”
His gaze draws you in and before you know it, your lips meet his in a deep kiss. His hands come up to gently cup your face, while your arms latch onto his sides in a tight grip. He tilts his head more to draw you in even closer and his movements cause you to take a few steps back until your back hits the wall.
The sweet moment almost turns more desperate when something lightly paws at your leg.
You break from the kiss and look down to see all six cats surrounding the two of you and watching your every movement with their curious eyes. Almond is standing the closest and is also the one who interrupted you. You let out a small giggle. It seems you could never catch a break from them.
When you look back up at Kuroo, you see him already staring at you with a soft smile gracing his lips. His eyes are filled with so much adoration and affection that you can’t stop your next words.
“I love you, Tetsurou.”
Kuroo looks surprised for a moment before his expression shifts back to a wide grin.
“I love you too, (Y/N).”
