ok but harrow and gideon's hatred of each other is so complex. it's never just been one thing. it's a frankenstein's monster of reasons to fight.
on harrow's side there's "i am a child and i don't know how to hate myself yet so i've decided to hate you instead." and there's also "i need you to hate me because i deserve to be hated by you but i can't tell you why so i'll just make it happen organically." and there's also "i just genuinely find you annoying."
and on gideon's side there's "you're the face of my captivity and mistreatment." and there's also "i probably deserve this so i'll just keep provoking you." and there's also "i just genuinely find you annoying."
and on both sides there's "you are the only person who's ever known me well enough to truly hate me." and there's also "this is the closest relationship i've ever had. wrestling is kinda close to hugging, right?" and there's also "heartbreaking: worst person you know is also extremely hot."

Griddlehark is totally the couple that everyone is thinks fights all the time because they’re bantering sounds like a level ten argument in a normal relationship. They’re also the couple that is right on top of each other. Gideon sits right on Harrow’s lap 98% of the time.

thinking abt the subtle yet overwhelming body horror and dysphoria present in Nona the Ninth. I’m not even talking about Ianthe piloting around Naberius’s corpse or Kiriona’s whole. thing.
it’s the subtler shit. imagine you’re Pyrrha. you’re lying awake in bed on a doomed wasteland of a planet and you’re in your dead best friend’s body. in the next room is a kid, and you have no idea who she actually is. she eats pencils and she’s physically weak but when she’s mad she will break her own bones over and over just to communicate her rage. you kind of have feelings for two people living in the same body, and that very situation is killing that very body. You shave your dead best friend’s face every day. You will never have your own body back.

In one she isn’t a necromancer (which means her parents didn’t commit g) and she wants to be cavalier primary so I guess that Gideon is a necromancer and adopted reverend daughter.
In second we got her divine highness, and Harrow is one of candidates for her wife (and it’s not like she practiced the pretties skull for months)
And in the last one they meet at the cohort. Harrow literally meets her in canteen and is stunned.

Thing I have never seen anyone talking about is how in Harrow’s ball au Gideon is her divine highness- daughter of Jod. Like did Harrow’s brain somehow knew or did she just want a hit royal girlfriend ? Why nobody talks about it?!?!? WHY????

i know we talk a lot about the pool scene but remember when harrow told gideon that she was two hundred corpses of the children of the ninth. remember when harrow said that gideon too was meant to die. remember when harrow said that she herself was meant to die and couldn’t bring herself to do it. remember when gideon heard all of this and then apologized to harrow. remember when harrow said that she was undone without gideon. and do you remember when gideon hugged her? do you remember that harrow let gideon bring her underneath the water when she thought gideon was drowning her? do you remember that she only started fighting back once she realized she was being hugged? and then do you remember how it was then and only then that they pledged themselves to each other fully, as necromancer and cavalier? do you remember? do you remember

I feel really strong need to write the nova au right now. Gideon only poses as quite perfect reverend daughter but she still loves her porn magazines and jock jokes. She still definitely hates face paint. The baby genocide didn’t happen bc they still have pilgrims. Harrow still hates her self but not bc of being walking grave but bc she isn’t necromancer, she isn’t what she was supposed to be. She feels useless. Her parents hate her and barely acknowledge her existence. That’s why she wants to be cavalier primary. She wants to have at least a look at what was supposed to be hers. She’s still insane. She sees body who looks weirdly at reverend daughter she has never seen up close….
Or maybe I’m just procrastinating and not writing my own stuff
