SPOILER ALERT FOR SIX OF CROWS AND CROOKED KINGDOM

I think that as a fandom we are collectively ignoring/forgetting about some of the actual character traits of the Crows. Yes, people are starting to realize that Wylan is not a scared little cinnamon roll, but it's Inej I really have in mind.

In most posts and fics especially she is portrayed as a wise, calm character who would probably be the therapist friend. And I agree, she is smart and her emotional intelligence is almost unaffected by the life she's living, BUT we can clearly see Kaz rubbing off on her and EVERYONE IS IGNORING THAT.

For example, in SoC, before Kaz reveals his plan, we can see him talking to Per Haskell about leaving his responsibilities behind for a while for Pim to take over them. When Inej hears this, she is momentarily upset/disappointed that he would not choose her first. Not only because she realizes she is smarter, or because Kaz trusts her, but simply because she feels up for it.

Throughout the whole series, we can see that Inej is not in fact completely reluctant to do illegal stuff - praying to her Saints and asking for forgiveness doesn't erase the fact that she is good at what she does and can't help but take some pride in it.

What really is curious, however, is the fact that the entire last chapter of CK is dedicated to Inej threatening to cut Pekka Rollins's heart out with her knives, making sure to let him know it's not Kaz who sent her.

Inej, by her own choice, went into Pekka's house, threatened him, went as far as replacing his son's toy to show him that despite his security measures, there was nowhere to hide from the Wraith, just for most people to ignore it.

My personal belief is that Kaz had told her his backstory (or at least a part of it), or that what she had heard in the Church of Barter was enough for her, and she acted out of protectiveness.

It is not surprising to see Kaz protective over Inej, but my heart absolutely melts thinking about her being equally as protective of him.

Also in Rule of Wolves, it is briefly mentioned how she left slavers covered in something in the Stadhall with a message attached to them and I just think it is ridiculous that we clearly see how vengeful she can be and we just ignore it.

It is a well-known fact that Kaz would rip the world apart if something happened to Inej but I think that the books hinted pretty heavily that she would do the same. Not in a nice, calm way her Saints would be pleased with. No. She's do something you expect from Kaz. She'd go mad.

I need fics about this. I need fanart about this. I don't know how, I just do. I need more people to acknowledge this. I need someone to tell me they absolutely agree.

When you initially watch Shadow and Bone for the Darkling, but you end up taking a liking to the coin tossing, goat loving, bisexual man, a knife-wielding queen and her boyfriend who will whack you with a cane if you dare mess with his girl and bestie.

i love every part of six of crows and all the ships but it also defines found family and soulmates so well because every crow loves every other in such a specific and perfect way, the kind that reminds you this is a group of teenagers who are fighting the world but still have all this capacity for love.

you have kaz and inej’s best friends to lovers, their little window-sitting routine where they don’t need to talk to feel each other. you have nina and inej’s waffle dates and complaints about boys and faith in each other. you have wylan and nina’s little scheme with smeet, the way he’s impressed with her and the way she teases about bullying him. you have wylan and matthias, matthias wondering if he’ll have to intercede while kaz has his cane to wylan’s throat, wylan considering matthias the naive one of them. you have matthias and jesper, jesper being the flirt and matthias getting embarassed by him and thinking he’s hilarious, jesper thinking matthias has this heart full of honor. you have jesper and nina, both flirting ketterdam into submission, dealing with their at first ignorant boyfriends, sharing camaraderie. you have nina and kaz, the obnoxious completely platonic flirting and the grudging respect for each other’s skills, the two of them playing each other but still being in each other’s corner. you have kaz and wylan and the way kaz sees himself in wylan and wylan sees a figure to respect in kaz, kaz telling wylan to have no shame in who he is, falling on top of a table together. you have wylan and inej and their mutual bond dating two idiotic brothers, the oft underestimated ones of the group, finding peace in each other as people who want to be good. you have inej and jesper and their care for each other, their mutual crush on kaz and the sheer angst jesper feels when he realizes he may have hurt her. you have jesper and kaz who are like brothers but first and foremost best friends, two boys who just want the other to be better, who understand each other’s weaknesses better than themselves. you have kaz and matthias, the druskelle and the demjin, the teasing that comes from a grudging and then deserved sense of mutual respect. you have matthias and nina and falling in love after a shipwreck, protecting someone even in death, finding each other, dreaming of each other. you have matthias and inej and bonding over religious conviction, matthias thinking inej is too good for kaz and inej teasing that he isn’t enough for nina. you have jesper and wylan and a kiss that feels like a gunshot, the teasing and falling in with a love for each other’s skills, for the ability to understand each other so intimately, the spin of a makker’s wheel.

they love each other so much.
