"Regulus, please don't- don't break what we have."
"What do we have, James? You're the one that said that all of this was purely for fun!"
"Reg, please... don't leave me."
"I can't leave you if I never had you."
I wrote this random out of context jegulus dialogue while I had a fever last night. Alexa play Casual by Chapell Roan
Jegulus but they never dated, they never really talked. Their relationship consisted of longing looks across the hallways but never an actual interaction. They didn't need words to understand each other, and though they'd never spoken alone even once, James felt a deep pain in his chest when Regulus died. He didn't grieve what they had, he grieved what they could've had if only the world had been kinder to them.
James 'I miss you' Potter and Regulus 'I'm not the one who left' Black
His arm was making him hurt. It was burning. Making him feel sick. He could feel his skin, his cells, his whole being protest against the inky dark magic being forcefully put on his arm.
He wanted to die. To disappear and never come back. He wanted to make them pay for it, but most of all, he was scared.
It was time for him to go back to Hogwarts. He would have to face Dorcas. Pandora. He was scared they won't understand. He has no idea how will he be able to function if they turn their back to him, although he would understand if they did.
But worst of all. He will have to face James. How is he going to face him? He is so pure, so kind, so gunt wrenchingly nice and loving. Regulus knows that James said that he will always love him, always be here for him.
But will he? Will he bend his morals just for him? Is he really going to taint his soul with Regulus Black's madness?
He is doubting it. He doesn't mind, he doesn't really care. (That's a lie, he cares so much. But lying to himself is easier then to accept the reality). James is too good. If he break up with him, Regulus will understand. Will accept it.
He loves James with his whole being. He knows that breaking up will be the safest option. He would be cursed ten thousands time before he'll let anything happen to his love. So be it.
"Hey love." Greeted James as Regulus entered in the Come and Go room. He was even more afraid as he just confronted Dorcas and Pandora. Thankfully they understood, but their reaction when they saw it will feed his nightmare for a whole months, at the very least. "I missed you Reg."
They hugged, tightly. When James noticed how bad Regulus was shaking, he tightened his embrace again.
"I missed you too Jamie." Muttered the smaller teen, who was holding James like he was a piece of wood in an angry ocean, like he was the last string helping him to stay out of the water.
"Are you okay? What happened?" His tone shifted, from sweet and caring, to concerned and angry. "What have they done to you? Tell me, please."
Wanting this to get over with as soon as possible, he let go of his boyfriend, and, taking a deep breath in, rolled up his sleeve carefully, showing that hideous Dark Mark staining his skin, and just seeing it uncovered was enough to make it throb, to make him ill.
Putting his other hand down, he rolled it into a fist, trying to hold on his tears, but no matter how hard he was trying, the panic attack was creeping through his body, and his iron grip on his emotions started to fade.
He distantly heard James gasp, and he was getting ready to be cussed out, yelled at, when instead James carefully rolled his sleeve back into it's place, and pulled him back into a hug.
"Shhh... There is no need to panic alright?" His said soflty, strocking Regulus back in a slow, steady pace for him to match his breathing too. After a long moment, the Slytherin calmed down. "Okay, I wil ask just two questions alright?"
Regulus nodded, and James dried his tears with his thumbs as he was cupping his face with his hands.
"Did you take it voluntarely?"
"No! No I didn't James I promis-" Regulus started to panic again.
"Hey, calm down, it's okay." Cut James. "So they forced you to take it?" His boyfriend nodded, once again, biting his lips. "Alright then. It was not your fault. I don't hate you for it baby. Actually, thank you for trusting me. I know it was hard for you. I'm proud of you love."
He then kissed his forehead.
Damn, Regulus thought. I guess I'll have to obliviate him...
His heart was bleeing, and he wanted to die. Because he had to keep James safe. And staying together would just endanger him more.
This is cruel.
Gimme more.
sunseeker is au fics, starchaser is canon compliant fics. because in universes where they have a chance, regulus finally gets to seek out the sun. but in canon? james will forever chase a star (something he'll never reach)

“You’re not real. You can’t be,” he whispered as the man he loved stroked the side of his face.
“I’m here, I’m here and I’m real and I love you so much, darling.”
Regulus screwed his eyes shut before the tears could fall. “No. You’re fake. It’s fake, it’s fake, it’s f—“
“I’m here, you can feel me, I’m real, it’s not fake, please, Regulus, just look at me,” the other man pleaded quietly, thumbs swiping gently at tears on Regulus’ cheeks.
Regulus opened his eyes and stared at him through the haziness of tears.
And there he was. James. With his tanned skin and dark curls. Eyes so focused on Regulus that one might have thought that he was the only thing James had ever seen in his life.Â
Regulus clutched at James’ arms, straining to find a way to get closer. To see he’s really here.
“It’s just me, love. Please, breathe. You’ve known me for 9 years, we’ve been dating for 5 months,” James reassured him. “None of this is fake.”
“It has to be!” Regulus burst out with a heaving sob. “I’m not lucky enough to actually have you in my life. I-It can’t be real. I’m not that lucky!”
“Reg…”
Regulus wrenched out another sob and crumpled into James’ chest.Â
“You’re too good for me… I don’t— I can’t deserve this… Please… Don’t leave me, Jamie…”
“I’ll never leave you, darling. You deserve the world, please don’t ever tell yourself otherwise.”
Regulus felt a kiss on the top of his head as he sobbed, curling into James’ embrace.
“I love you, Regulus. I’m here.”
“I love you too, Jamie. Thank you for staying.”

“When we’re older, we should get married,” Regulus had whispered softly.
“Yeah?”James looked at his boyfriend, who had been hugging his chest as they lay in bed together.Â
“Yeah.”
James pressed a gentle, lingering kiss to Regulus’ head. “What kind of flowers should we have?” He asked quietly.
“Roses,” the younger boy answered. “But, only red ones, those are my favorite.”
“Anything you want, love, it’ll be yours.”
“You promise?”
“With every breath from my lungs, every kiss from my lips, and every touch from my hands, I’ll love you forever and anything you ever want, I’ll make sure it’s yours.”
“Ugh, James! Quit being such a sap!” Regulus chuckled affectionately.Â
—
James smiled at the memory as tears rolled down his cheeks slowly.Â
He knelt down to the ground and placed the roses he brought with him down next to him.Â
James stared at the grave and the ache in his chest was all he could feel. He heaved in a shaky breath and felt a pang.Â
He didn’t bother with trying to stop his tears from falling as he retrieved the old flowers and replaced them with the new ones.Â
James closed his eyes and repeated the same speech he gave every time he went to see Regulus.Â
“With every breath from my lungs, every tear from my eyes, and every rose from my garden, I’ll miss you until the day I leave to join you. But until then, I’ll love you now as fiercely as I did then. And every day from the year will be a reminder of a day we spent together.”
With that James left Regulus’ grave.Â
Today would have been their anniversary.

Thanksgiving 1977
“Reg, love, you can’t keep ignoring me,” James pleaded with his boyfriend, who was pointedly looking anywhere but in his direction. He stood on the opposite side of the empty classroom they were in with his arms adamantly crossed.Â
Regulus stayed silent, merely raising an eyebrow, giving James the go-ahead to speak.Â
“Regulus…” James took a step closer to him, tucking a loose curl behind his ear, “I don’t want you to stay in that house. Please. My parents have already said they’d be more than happy to have you stay at ours. And Sirius wants you to escape before…”
“Before they inevitably force me to take the Mark.” Regulus snapped his head to glare at James as he talked. His eyes swirled with a thousand emotions that James couldn’t really put names to. “I know, James.”Â
James pulled him closer to hug him. Regulus turned away from him but didn’t pull away from the embrace.Â
“I-I know they’re awful, but James,” Regulus finally turned to look at him, eyes shining with tears, “they’re my parents.” He choked on a sob before continuing, “But, I know I have to leave soon.”
James rubbed his back comfortingly and whispered soft consolations as his boyfriend sobbed into his chest.
Regulus sniffed and shifted his gaze to meet James’ again. This time, James saw nothing but resolve and determination set into his eyes “This Christmas break. I’ll apparate. I’ll do it on the day before Christmas Eve. I promise.”

New Years' Day 1978
James frantically searched the train platform for signs of his boyfriend.Â
He hadn’t come on the day before Christmas Eve.Â
James had been worried out of his mind. Regulus hadn’t even sent a letter to explain why he didn’t show up.Â
Then, James saw a glimpse of Regulus’ black curls. He left behind his bags and sprinted to where Regulus sat on a bench, eyes trained on the ground.Â
“Reg.”
Regulus lifted his head. The second he saw Regulus’ eyes, he knew.
“I’m so sorry, Jamie,” Regulus whispered.
"you are my person. I need you alive. you make me brave" but it's regulus writing a letter to James before he goes to the cave
