“And he’s a total sub.” I chime in from the back of the room.

Silence.

Then, a knowing chuckle from the same man.

“That too,” he coos gently as he strokes wild, curly hair, James flushing greatly as he whispers, “Right, baby?”

"James Potter has a knife kink." I say into the microphone. the crowd boos. I sigh and begin to walk off stage.

"She's right" a voice says, I turn and there he is. Regulus Black.

proposition - september 5th - jegulus microfic - @taylorswiftmicrofic - word count: 287 - trans!regulus

Regulus stared into the mirror, picking and pulling at the hem of his t-shirt, fighting back the nausea that crested through his body.

It was all wrong. The way his binder pinched at his skin, the way his shirt showed curves he wished he could magic from his hips, the way his face was free of stubble or shadow. Groaning, he leaned forward, trying to clear his brain of the self-hatred that flowed through him freely.

"Reg?"

James moved behind him, a hand hovering by his waist, waiting to touch him until he gave a tired nod. James was used to this by now. He knew to ask for permission to touch. But the fact that James knew made him feel worse, for some reason. Like he was a burden.

Until the other man spoke. "You look so handsome tonight, baby," he said, whispering from behind him, his chin resting on his shoulder, voice in his ear.

Regulus's eyes widened at the compliment, tears making them prickle. "You think so?"

"Always."

He turned, sinking into his boyfriend's arms. "It's a bad day today," he murmured, his voice muffled as he pressed his face into James's shirt. He knew it was unnecessary to say so, that James could recognize the signs of his dysphoria from a mile off, but he still felt the need to acknowledge it.

But James just pressed a kiss to his head. "I have a proposition for you," he said gently. "How about we stay in tonight? Pop in a movie and cuddle on the couch. I'm a bit too tired to go out. Is that okay?"

And as relief flooded through him, Regulus nodded, knowing this was for his benefit, and beyond thankful.

Jegulus conversation as a Born to die

Regulus: Don't make me sad, don't make me cry. Sometimes love is not enough. And the road gets tough, I don't know why.

James: Keep making me laugh. Let's go get high. The road is long, we carry on. Try to have fun in the meantime.

Regulus: Can you make it feel like home if I tell you you're mine?

Both: Choose your last words, this is the last time. Cause you and I, we were born to die

June 12 - Challenge | @jegulus-microfic | word count: 898

Regulus doesn’t notice him at first. He rarely ever notices what goes on in his train car when he has his earbuds in and the music blends with the scenery outside the window. But his airpods make their familiar noise of despondent beeping, warning him of their inevitable death, and pull him away from his usual daydreaming.

While rummaging through his bag and placing the earbuds in their case, he gets this odd feeling in his stomach, and then, he hears him.

With his heartbeat in sudden uptick, he follows the voice that’s slightly obscured by the din of the car and sees him. And oh, that odd feeling is familiarity. Familiarity like he hasn’t known for the past two years.

James.

He’s in the middle of a phone call, tucked into the corner of a four-seater, and the person on the other line must be funny because James throws his head back, molars on display and his hand comes up to cover his mouth in a futile attempt to stifle his laughter. It booms all the same.

For a second there, he’s the boy Regulus once knew, and Regulus can’t help the instinctive pull of his lips into a smile.

Hello there, you.

He could easily walk up to him on stiff legs and say hello. James would remove the bag he’s put beside himself and make room, not because it’s Regulus, but because James is accommodating like that.

Regulus would ask James about his mother and casually mention the time he ran into her at the supermarket eight months ago. He’d conveniently leave out the part where he ducked behind a stack of discount soup. Or how he sprinted out of the building and got caught running out with a pack of toothpaste he didn’t pay for.

James would ask about his job and Regulus would give a noncommittal shrug and say “You know how it is,” and of course James would know.

James would probably lean back against his seat, bottom lip between his teeth, a smile pulling at the ends. He’d look at Regulus contemplatively before something in his mind goes ‘fuck it’ and he’d ask Regulus if he wants to go grab a drink. Regulus, with prior engagements he cannot break under any circumstances, would probably say yes.

They’d find themselves at a nondescript café nursing respective drinks and letting the ambiance cut away at some of the awkward gaps in their conversation. James would pick at the sugar sachets and create his famous sugar mountains, he’s sure of it; that’s the one thing he can bet on James still doing.

He’d hold himself back from mentioning how he still makes his tea the way James taught him, how he uses the same obscure phrases James picked up from his favorite cult tv shows – except nobody ever gets it, and it always comes out too stilted.

He has shaken most other habits; he no longer reaches for James’ favorite brand of juice while grocery shopping and he no longer looks to his side when somebody does something particularly stupid to share a look with James. The thing with James, for all his sunshine exterior, is that he could be a little mean when he thought he could get away with it, and he could always get away with it when in Regulus’ presence.

At some point Regulus would remember how much he loved James. He’d have to bite his lips to stop himself from asking if James had taken the chunky, knitted blanket with him when he left because he couldn't find it last winter, and he’d always wondered. It was his after all.

James would huff, pause his fiddling with the sachets, and look up at him in challenge. The familiar argument of who bought what would arise, and it’d be as if two years never passed. Like they still had their little apartment downtown, Friday night movie marathons, and late nights under the glow-in-the-dark star stickers they put up on their bedroom ceiling. If the nights were long enough, James would spiral into an existential crisis and land on the topic of past lives.

“Do you think we’ve met before?” He’d ask. “Will we meet again?”

Now all they’ve got is a collection of seats between them. That, and ten tentative, awkward steps to break the distance of two years’ worth of nothingness.

Regulus would concede the challenge, because easy bickering with James would feel like turning a rusty cog, and he doesn’t want James to discover the awkward tone he’s developed during their time apart.

Their meeting would probably end not long after that. They’d go their separate ways with fragile reassurance from both parties to meet again sometime soon– soon being between next week and never.

And that would be it.

He’s had his fair share of breakups. They always leave something behind. But James, oh, James, he took something. Regulus is more than convinced now that he has James in front of him again.

He looks back at James, who is now preoccupied with his phone, smiling stupidly at the screen.

Yeah, he took something, alright.

He could. Walk up to him, that is. It’d be so easy.

So, so easy because it’s James.

Instead, he grabs his bag, adjusts his scarf, nuzzling into it to fight off the oncoming cold, and gets off at the next stop.

Late Night | Poly!Jegulus X GN!Reader

James shot up when he heard what sounded like something being dropped on the floor.

He immediately put his glasses on and looked to his side, getting a rush of anxiety when he realized he woke up alone.

You and Regulus weren't there and it had to be at around two or three in the morning considering it was pitch black outside.

James immediately got out of bed and walked out of the room as quickly and quietly as he could while he felt his heart beating out of his chest and his mind raced.

What if someone was in their home? What if someone was hurting you and Regulus?

James cursed at himself when he realized he came out of the room empty handed. How did he manage to forget his bloody wand?

He felt as if it was too late to turn back now.

While James was looking around their home in search of you and Regulus he noticed that there was light coming from the kitchen.

With furrowed brows he proceeded to the kitchen with caution, his mind still getting the best of him.

He peeked into the kitchen and James felt all his anxieties wash away but his confusion only heightened.

There you and Regulus were talking in hushed voices while… eating cookies?

Were you and Regulus having cookies?

Without him?

James never felt so offended in his life. There you two were the loves of his life having snacks without him! Especially when the three of you should be asleep.

A true betrayal.

“What are you two doing?” James asked, making his presence known.

Regulus and you looked up at James slightly startled and looking like two kids who were about to be scolded.

Which you and Regulus both knew was a possibility since James often stresses about the importance of a ‘healthy sleep schedule’.

Whatever the hell that means.

You immediately grabbed a cookie holding it out to James giving him the biggest smile you could manage attempting to distract him from the fact that it was the middle of the night. “Cookie?”

Regulus just dropped his head looking down while shaking it obviously not impressed with your attempt to distract James.

Apparently James wasn't impressed with your attempt either since he took the cookie you had offered him with a quiet ‘thank you’ but then he decided to repeat his question.

How Rude. Literally not at all.

“What are you two doing?”

“Nothing much, you?” Your response earned a small frown from James and a small smirk and chuckle from Regulus.

Regulus proceeded to wrap an arm around you, kissing your head softly trying to hide his amusement from James. “We've been caught darling. No use trying to get out of it now.”

“Worth a shot.” You muttered while shrugging.

Regulus just chuckled again thinking to himself that you might be spending a little too much time with Barty.

“Are either of you going to answer my question?” James asked concerned and slightly irritated but you knew his irritation was only coming from a place of worry.

James had a tendency to worry a lot about the people he carried about.

Especially you and Regulus.

Since you could remember James has worried about yours and Regulus sleep schedules. You two could stay up all hours of the night, sometimes even days and you both could function properly which worried James since sleep is very important in maintaining a healthy body and mind.

“We couldn't sleep so we decided to make cookies.”

“We tried to stay quiet so as to not wake you but someone dropped the backing sheet.” Regulus looked at you with a teasing look in his eyes as you glared at him while you muttered something about it being an accident.

James continued to look at you with a concerned look in his eyes but he couldn't help but feel his irritation faded since he had always found it hard to stay upset with you two especially when you both were the cutest people he has ever had the pleasure of laying his eyes on.

He just couldn't help but worry about your wellbeing.

“Why didn't you wake me? I could have tried to help you two sleep.”

“Jamie, it wasn't going to happen for us. It's just one of those nights.” You sent a small smile to James while grabbing his hand, pulling him towards you and Regulus gently.

Regulus pushes some of James' hair out of his face so he could look in James' eyes; those eyes that Regulus loved with all his heart. “There was no point in all of us being awake mon amour.”

“Plus Jamie you get kinda grumpy when you don't get your beauty sleep.” Regulus nods in agreement while James just scoffs at the both of you but the small smile on his face shows he means nothing by it.

“That's beside the point. You could have still let me try… I just worry about you two sometimes.”

Regulus pulls James closer so that the three of you are in a hug. “We know mon cerf, and you've done so amazing at helping us but sometimes old habits die hard and that's okay. Just because there's a few setbacks doesn't mean you've failed. We appreciate you so much.”

“We promise that we’re okay. Sleep just doesn't always come easy for us and that's not your fault.”

James sighs and nods, resting his head on you. “You're right, both of you.”

“Yeah. We normally are.” That earns a laugh from both of your boyfriends.

James goes to give you a kiss on the cheek with a smile on his face while he whispers ‘I love you’.

James stayed up with you and Regulus for as long as he could, finishing off the rest of the cookie and cuddling on the couch while watching movies.

You and Regulus stood up for most of the night till eventually all three of you were fast asleep on the couch in each other's arms.

“James, I am not letting you ruin our home!”

“Baby—“

“Not another word,” Regulus hissed at his husband, “we are not painting the walls of this house red.”

Regulus glared at James who was  giving him puppy dog eyes and clasping his hands together.

Regulus raised an eyebrow at him.

“James, I don’t understand what you find so… cool about a bright red wall,” Regulus sighed as James came over to him and hugged his waist tightly. He instinctively brought his arms up to hug James’ neck.

James pressed a gentle, lingering kiss to Regulus and mumbled into his mouth, “I never said bright red, love.”

Regulus shook his head softly. “Red is such a…” Regulus looked at his husband’s eyes instead of his mouth and decided to bite back his retort. “Red is a very… bold color,” he said.

Regulus moved to kiss James again but his husband pulled back.

James instead went to peppering little, tiny kisses all over Regulus’ neck.

“Just one wall, love.”

“I—“

“It can be in my office so people don’t see it.”

Regulus thought about it for a moment while James continued kissing.  He couldn’t see a good enough reason why not.

Regulus pulled James’ head away from his neck and brought it down so their foreheads were touching. He cradled James’ cheek with one of his hands.

“Okay.”

James immediately pulled back and did a leap in the air with a shout of “YES!”

Regulus put a hand on his husband’s shoulder and pointed a threatening finger at him.

“But only in your office, mon soleil.” Regulus fixed him with a glare. When James tried to lean in for another kiss, Regulus pulled away. “I mean it, James, just your office.”

Finally a Part 2 for the Game Night au!

Part 1

“PRONGS?”

Both James and Regulus’ heads snapped to look at Sirius, who had just let himself in through James’ front door.

Sirius gaped at the pair of them and set down the six pack of drinks he was carrying.

“Since when were you friends?” He asked, narrowing his eyes suspiciously and taking out a drink for himself.

Regulus blinked innocently up at Sirius from where he and James were sat on the couch. “We just met,” he told his brother. Regulus put a hand on James’ chest. “He was just explaining how to play Blackjack.”

James’ skin tingled from where Regulus touched him and he felt his cheeks get hot. He could tell Regulus was trying to work up Sirius.

Kudos to him because, frankly, it was working. A vein in Sirius’ temple was visibly straining and he was gripping his drink so tight his knuckles were white.

Sirius cleared his throat and asked, “James- a word in the kitchen?”

James nodded and extracted himself away from Regulus. He heard a small whine in the back of the younger man’s throat and he felt like he could have collapsed right there. As soon as Regulus’ hands weren’t touching him anymore, James felt a cold absence and longed for them to come back.

Surely having thoughts like this about your best friend’s younger brother isn’t normal, right?

He looked back at Regulus before stepping into the kitchen and his heart skipped so many beats he had a small stomachache.

Nope. That definitely wasn’t a normal feeling.

september 3: storm | @jegulus-microfic | word count: 107

James loved Regulus so much. Loved every part of him. But the part James loved the most was his eyes.

He loved the stormy grey depths and the just barely-there hints of blue mixed in.

He loved Regulus’ thick, dark eyelashes that framed his eyes perfectly.

James adored the way Regulus’ eyes glowed after any time James said “I love you”.

He especially loved the intensity in  Regulus’ gaze when they were tangled up in each other.

But above it all, there was nothing in the world that could match the pure joy and love in those stormy eyes when James had knelt down on one knee.

September 4: sign | @jegulus-microfic | word count: 208

Regulus was nervous.

Today was the semi-final Quidditch match between Slytherin and Ravenclaw. Today would decide who’d be playing Gryffindor in the Championship.

Of course Regulus felt a small knot of nerves in his stomach about the match, but he knew he was the best Seeker in all of Hogwarts so he wasn’t terribly worried.

He was more nervous because this was his first match that James would be attending since they’d started dating.

Regulus knew James had a tendency for dramatics. For all he knew, James could’ve planned a song and dance. It’d already happened before, much to Regulus’ utter horror.

So when the whistle blew and the Quaffle was tossed to start the game, Regulus sped away to hover above the players on the Pitch and to see what James did this time.

After about 2 seconds of searching, he found James. It wasn’t hard at all actually. The man was painted head-to-toe in silver and green and was over enthusiastically waving a sign in the air.

Regulus flew a little closer to read what James’ poster read.

He groaned out loud in exasperation when he read:

DON’T HURT THAT NICE ARSE OF YOURS, REGGIE!!

At least James didn’t do another song and dance, Regulus thought.

September 9: carry | @jegulus-microfic | word count: 190

“Jamie, pleeeease.”

“Reg…”

“I’ll break up with you if you don’t.”

“Reg!”

“James, I might die.”

James’ laugh almost bubbled over and spilled out, but he held it in stoically. Regulus would kill him for laughing at him right now.

Regulus gave James a death stare so intense others might have cried from. Not James though. James merely smiled and finally relented.

“Okay, yes, I’ll carry you for a bit,” James told his boyfriend, who had been dragging his feet through the amusement park for the last hour.

“Finally,” Regulus groaned, hopping up on James’ back and swinging his legs to circle James’ waist.

James caught him and squeezed his thighs lightly. He loved carrying him around like this. And he knew Regulus liked to be carried. So it worked out pretty well for them.

“So which ride did you want to go on next, love?” James asked.

“The one with the snakes,” his boyfriend answered sweetly, angry tone completely evaporated now that he’d gotten his wish.

“That one’s on the other side of the park…” James said slowly.

“I know.”

God, James loved that man. Truly. Bless his soul.
