I gotta say, I’m kinda mad about the last few episodes of SNW. They spent all this time building up these interesting characters and giving us the found family dynamic, only kill Hemmer, lose La’an and arrest Una

So after Nhan left, Pike really hired a new security chief named La’an

CHRISTINA CHONG as La'an Noonien-Singh in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (Season 1)

la'an, within the first episode or so: people bullied me because the only trait they acknowledged abt me was that i'm related to khan:(

every single news article, post, and youtube video mentioning la'an: what is la'an NOONIEN-SINGH's relationship to the famed KHAN???! what traits has she got from HIM?? should we preemptively hate her?

"strange new worlds is a serious show"

meanwhile:

- the captain is doing a pirate impression and the first officer looks like she wants to cry

- the chief of security is wondering around in a princess dress with a very very small dog

- the pilot is exclusively replying to the science officer's descriptions with "kaboom"

- the captain is referred to as starfleet's boy scout in his file

- the first officer and chief of security are playing enterprise bingo, which mostly seems to be an excuse to shoot each other with phasers

- the nurse is describing things as giving birth from your mouth to coerce difficult patients into medical treatment

- the captain is using soup to ignite mutiny

- the science officer is bodyswapped with his girlfriend and is using it to punch people he doesn't normally get to punch

- the doctor is treating an alarming amount of arrow wounds for a starship with no arrows

- the cadet is always right and yknow what she's rocking it

- the chief of security is recreationally making ensigns cry

- the first officer is very jealous because only one of them is allowed to make ensigns cry at a time

- the chief engineer is very violently befriending the cadet. it is somehow working

- the captain is cooking, all the time, for the whole crew. nobody has informed him that he is supposed to be captaining this crew, not parenting it, and they do not plan to

what would be la'an's name if she were a guy???

look if the musical DOESN'T feature a buffy-i-died-and-went-to-heaven-esque reveal for la'an's fresh new trauma than frankly i don't want it

(that's a lie. i want it so bad, regardless.)

the musical could be so fucking funny for all the obvious reasons but ALSO because we have:

uhura, who loves music and will take this to the extreme

spock, who loves music but not singing

una, who is a gilbert & sullivan nerd and liable to be SO extra about being in an actual!!! musical!!!

la'an, who lied to them all about having a bad singing voice and will be violently exposed

AND the rest of this amazing crew

a list of potential causes for la'an's lying abt being fine in the among the lotus eaters trailer:

episode-specific alien shenanigans

non-episode-specific alien shenanigans

physical harm as a direct result of time/cross-universal travel (similar to georgiou????)

mental harm (that could lead to physical harm) from jimothy's death

a proper exploration of mental illness thru her

and, just bc it reminds me of one (1) torchwood scene: slowly being shot in the head as a result of reviving someone who was shot in the head using her own life force
