The Sweetest Sting (Migraine Edition)

So this new chapter? It's almost done. I think I figured out how to balance the ending with some new Amelia stuff. However, I had my eye dilated again today at the specialist's office and I slept off the ensuing migraine all day. Literally 2pm to 10pm. So it's not ready to post yet. Since the new eps are tomorrow, I'm posting this chapter on Thursday, for sure. Also it ended up being 41 pages long, so I broke it into two. You'll get this one on Thursday and the last one on Monday and then an epilogue the following week. Unless my eyeballs fall out and roll away, in which case, good luck figuring out how I planned to end it 😂

My head hurts.

I wanted to see them get together so badly if you're not on their routes, and they're one of my favorite crack ships that doesn't involve MC. I just love their dynamic, you know. I headcanon Flo as gay and Bella as homoflexible, so yeah... Rant over, lol

I'm glad you enjoyed it! You'll get a tiny tidbit about that in the epilogue, but yes, Bella and Flo are indeed a thing. I'm fairly sure Bella was a love interest in the season so she's definitely not straight. They just seem like they'd be a really fun, loving couple.

LOL I was dubious about giving Amelia any kind of wrap up but I'm glad I did. It was SUPER fun to write her meltdown.

Season 8 Thoughts:

I haven't said much of anything about the new season because I have very little to complain about, and honestly, I'm only funny when I'm complaining. But I figured I should say that I love it. It's messy. It's frustrating. I love the guys. I love the girls. I love the friendships. I'm rooting for couples even if I like someone in that couple. This is the first season where I'm genuinely ecstatic to do the wlw routes. Claudia is so freaking hot and lovely. Bea is a sexy sass queen. I want Hazel biblically (though I'm pretty sure she's not an option).

My complaints are pretty minor overall (and thus are pretty boring):

As always the clothing options are... questionable, and we got the worst dance outfit as per usual.

The dance scenes are particularly bad. What's with all the finger sucking? And what the hell was Theo doing squatting and popping up? I can't even visualize what that was supposed to be 🤣

Poor Hari. I like him, but his sprite is not it. The way his mouth is drawn it looks like he's always talking through clenched teeth.

I wish Sienna was a little more developed. The guys keep saying she's fun but we've never experienced it. It would be nice to see what they actually like about her.

My biggest frustration is that they've still never figured out how to handle love triangles and break ups. The characters always break up and then act like they never broke up. It's weird for your LI's partner to dump them because LI said they liked you, and then act confused about why the vibes are off in their relationship. It doesn't feel intentional, like it's meant to be messy, as much as it feels like a failure of the branching to give us a distinct route.

That's kind of it, though. I'm sure I have a few more nitpicks but overall the heat is back and so is the romance. I honestly haven't had this much fun with a season since season two and that's high praise. I wouldn't say it's as great as two. The branching will simply never be that good again because the platform they use can't support it. The characters also had more complexity back then, because the season was longer and it was all scripted by humans (though I'll admit, I'm happy to not have as much filler now we did back then). That said, this one IS great. I'm living for the romance, and for the first time in the entirety of the game, I'm living for the messiness! Emel is the worst, but I also love her? I'm genuinely struggling with my choices too, which is fun.

Oh and Theo... sigh. I never do the love triangle routes. I have no patience for them or for wishy washy pixels. I liked Ozzy but I stopped doing his route mid game because I couldn't deal with the frustration of it. But I am EMPHATICALLY HERE FOR THEO AND I WILL FIGHT CLAUDIA IN THE STREET FOR HIM (AND THEN MAKE OUT WITH HER). I fell hard for Max and dumped him the moment Theo showed me some attention. They really starved us in the first half with him, but now... no crumbs, baby! The way Theo stopped the sexy talk for a romantic conversation about the future and how he says he believes in us so much and wants to travel together so we can be his muse, and the way he said he's falling for us. And the way he ASKED, HE FREAKING ASKED if he could touch us. I AM A PUDDLE OF MELTED HONEY. PLEASE TURN ME INTO BAKLAVA.

It was originally one monstrously long chapter so I split it in two. Which means the story will end very soon, and on an even number, which soothes my neurotic soul for some reason.

Okay 🤣 This is gonna be forever long. You know I can't summarize!

If It Could Have Been Me: Noah's wanted her for far too long and he finally has her. For now.

Her walls clenched around him as he let himself succumb to the magic and madness of her sweet body. Poetry and music and lines from old books flooded his head, but they didn’t make any sense. They were a sensual muddle of noise and words. A rolling, tumbling jumble of feelings that weren’t namable. Weren’t even knowable. And without the ability to name them, he became feral. Savage. Utterly unable to find the civilised man that needed those artful things to make sense of the world. There was no more sense. There was only her. Fucking her.  Loving her. 

Suresh Something Something: MC, a very popular islander, was shockingly dumped by public vote. In a Love Island first, the fans were so upset by the abusive way she'd been treated on the show, they banded together and voted her off out of concern for her emotional health. At the 6 month reunion, she thanks fans for caring so much and announces that on her flight home from the dumping, she met another Love Island alum and they've been dating ever since. It's either Lucas or Arjun. They bring him out and he's head over heels for MC and proposes on air. Suresh has a complete melt down about it and posts up on the guy who isn't the least bit intimidated. Arlo, humiliated by Suresh's behavior, punches him in the face. Did I brainstorm all of that JUST to have him get punched by a semi-pro boxer? Yes. Yes I did.

Couple's Therapy: MC is in the waiting room for her first couples therapy appointment, but her fiancé hasn't shown up. Seb's girlfriend also hasn't shown up. To their confusion, they end up getting called together for their visit because Seb and her boyfriend have nearly identical names. They're both too mortified to tell the therapist and just play along, like they're an actual couple. They end up going to many therapy appointments together as if they were a real couple, and they learn how to communicate and end up falling in love.

Arjun After Hours: Arjun goes into CA with an agenda. Pick the easiest to convince girl, get into the villa, get famous, and prove his family wrong about what a loser he is. But meeting Olivia, brilliant and unbearably loyal, throws a wrench in everything. He falls hard and tries to hint at the truth he's not allowed to tell. Her relationship is a joke. Her partner has been using her since day dot and her so called bestie has been sabotaging her. Despite falling just as hard for him, she won't believe it and chooses loyalty. Heartbroken, Arjun returns to his life of dog grooming and disappointed parents. So imagine his surprise when he gets a knock on the door...

Oh, and no, the Bobby/Marisol story wasn't missing. It was in the section of active WIPS I believe. The sex scenes are too good (and horrifying) to leave unfinished 🤣

I feel awful for the disappointment I'm about to give you, but l didn't finish S4. Pretty sure I quit playing right after Tom showed up. And while I was partnered with Bruno, I cannot recall a single interaction we had other than some very awkward kisses. So I have no opinion. I vaguely recall that he was sweet?

Matter of fact from S3 on, I don't think I've ever fully finished a season. Came pretty close with s6 and S8 but stopped before the last episode for each ended. Fusebox bores me as the season winds down.

So here's my thing. I love Bobby but he's absolutely not my type because he's actually happy 🤣 I'm a sucker for funny guys but only if they're also sadbois (you sure can't tell that by how I write, can you 😆). My type is literally a tattooed, snarky music lover who fluctuates between making me laugh till I pee and stressing me out with their anxiety and depression. I literally married that guy. Honestly though, there's no one else in the game that I can see myself being emotionally intrigued by in real life.

Remember how in S2 Lucas talks about how moissanite is better?

If Lucas and Hope were getting married she would totally insist on a real diamond. Do you think he would try and argue with her on it or just take her to Tiffany's?

Hmm, you know I sat on this for a bit, thinking about it and I guess... I don't think she'd insist on a real diamond. Hope isn't actually super into that kind of status in the text of the game, IMHO. She's a businesswoman by day and party-girl by night, who is proud of making her own money. The status she wants is to be seen as successful. Her most enduring trait is self-sufficiency and control is way more important to her than social status. Matter of fact, in the scene where Noah had a little tantrum about the Ministry party, he makes a comment about his clothe and Hope is the one who frustratedly says, "Hon, you have nice clothes!" He doesn't have a ton of money and she never once had an issue with that or seemed concerned about his financial status. One of the biggest issues between them always came down to Noah treating her paternally, attempting to "take care of her," which is something she fundamentally rejects. Which is all to say that I think she's a practical person at heart and being spoiled isn't really her thing. So, I don't think she'd be fussed too much over moissanite versus diamond. Since Lucas is a helper type who wanted to join Doctors Without Borders, I always assumed the moissanite thing was an ethical choice because of the moral quandaries of diamond mining. I think Hope would hear him out on that and be like, "Babe, that's fine. Not even jewelers can tell the difference anyhow!" So yeah. I think it comes down to how you interpret Hope more than Lucas, and I just don't believe she'd care. If she wanted a "real" diamond, she'd go buy herself one. But to play into the hypothetical, if for some reason she did insist on a real one, I think he'd cave, but he wouldn't be happy about it. And they'd have to compromise because he'd want an ethically sourced diamond if he's gonna spend money on it.
