Mac is the first one to do this gesture on the show, chronologically before the An Erotic Life episode and this resulting short where Dennis mirrors it.

Booping a nose between these two has come to signify offering and asking for intimacy, I guess...?

Dennis wanted to emulate in bed what made him feel close to someone (Mac) when they were in his bed - He liked it when he was the one...being booped, for lack of a better term, so he did that to who he was with in that position? Feining closeness by copying the gesture of genuine closeness.

And Mac takes this affirmation of the Eagles to slap his hand back down on Dennis’ leg saying with a confidence and relief “Go Birds?! Right? Go Birds.”

And Dennis strongly pushes Mac’s hand away saying “Get your h a n d off my knee-!” while closing his legs more than they were.

(Also it looks like this is another moment where Rob ends up showing he’s trying not to laugh.)

ok so a theory on Time’s up for the gang

Dennis said “You gotta stop kissing me, man” to Mac. as if it had happened multiple times my theory is that Mac kissed Dennis in the Superbowl episode, which we’ll see later since it is a flashback episode.

now that ive had time to experience the vague concept of thought i think my onion is,, we all know the gang are terrible ppl and that thats the whole ass point and that they could never have a lasting relationship outside of each other but the issue has been more with the ethics of shipping macdennis due to their behavior with each other, after they power dynamic in their rs kinda shifted around mid-series ppl have been calling out dennis for being abusive to mac and that its too one sided and i think its good that this ep showed that theres issues on both sides to how they treat each other, theyre both fucked up abusive traumatized ppl and i think this just showed its not as one sided as ppl like to pretend it is. in sum of ree basically i dont think shipping macdennis is any more…. morally negative than it was before and also that dennis being uncomfortable with some of macs behavior and advances is valid but doesnt mean that he cant or doesnt deep down have romantic feelings for mac as most of us have suspected for a long time he has and he’s just not ready. anyways dennis said wig

there’s a lot of love in there for each other member of the gang but they still often exacerbate one another’s faults and are cruel because of their own

do you really think this was a public condemnation of both chardee and macdennis?

absolutely not. rather than criticize the romantic dynamics between the gang, i think the purpose of this episode was to provide commentary on how sexual harassment is still overlooked in many aspects of our society, as well as to elucidate just how toxic each individual member of the gang really is. they’re supposed to be each other’s closest support system but instead they treat each other like shit. tbh if someone watches this episode and their main takeaway is that their ship has been “publicly condemned” then i’m a little bit concerned lol

I just realized that in the background of this infamous scene there’s a small sticker that says potential is infinite. It just makes me wonder, like what if it’s a very subtle nod at the unexplored romantic potential these two have. And once Dennis realizes how good they could be for each other, nothing can stop them. 

Literally the classic Cycle of Abuse /: (

Dennis has a personality disorder and is constantly in a cycle of Nurture/Abandon with Mac and has been for the entire series.  Dennis calling Mac out was about humiliating/abandoning him in a public way to destabilize the security that Dennis returning might have brought him.  It fits perfectly into the Dennis system, but with Mac the cycle has been going on for so long that with every repetition it becomes more and more extreme.  

Leaving was the 2nd N, returning was the I, and crushing him in public is the S.  The reason he thinks he can re-attach women he DENNIS’es is because it keeps working on Mac.  He’s doing to cycle back to D and do something sweet within the next few episodes, which hopefully means we will eventually finally get E since with every repeat it escalates.  

Dennis is a bastard man and this is what he does.

AN OPEN LOCK

that is prominent in the background (to the left above Charlie’s head) during the conversation between Charlie and Mac about Dennis being right about his opinions on one’s identity, that “what you ride is your identity” and that “it’s like who you are, it’s who I am.” Dennis later goes on to start flirting with begin being close to a coincidental male acquaintance only once he’s assured by him that ‘his identity is nothing to be ashamed of’

In this scene with the lock, the bully kids show up prompting Mac to calmly confirm that he is gay to the main bully’s use of the word as an insult, but correcting that Charlie isn’t his boyfriend because he “could do much better than him” pointing to Charlie (which is also the direction of the open lock).

“Really, then why don’t you, Mac.” Charlie says.

I’ve believed that the lock metaphor from The Gang Escapes and the dialogue when they open it at the table lays out a parallel of the Macdennis situation and how ‘Dennis’ heart lock’ will be opened. In that, Charlie is able to be the one to place the key inside for Frank to turn and open by being “The Speaker.” (And since I’m talking about it, opening the lock is literally not endgame because there’s a whole list of things to do to finish the game once it’s finally opened after comically dragging out doing so.)

There’s definitely room for different interpretations or possibility for there being/not being certain intentions on some parts BUT there is a 0% chance that a conspicuous and clearly OPEN LOCK being put on display for most of this scene with what it involves being accidental after the “significance” placed on a lock in this same season only a few episodes ago (that had the unnecessary detail of being heart-shaped and pertaining to Mac and Dennis in the story as it did).

And SPEAKING of intentional details, always sunny has used shirts to support plot development on the show before (ex: Mac’s baby blue Denny’s shirt).

god so @ th end of new wheels mac is CLEARLY singing his mf heart out to rick astley….but we kno for a fact he doesnt Like tht style of music (ie when he tried making a band w th gang he went for a whole diff genre) but hes jus belting th lyrics at the end of the ep w perfect accuracy! so n e ways in conclusion th only reason he has a rick astley song memorized is bc of how often him n dennis drive together thanks

somebody already made gifs of the opening so I don’t think I should do them now but I just watched it back and H. he really did look at mac during like at least 75% of his speech… especially when he said “I may go back.” it’s just focused on him.
