After much deliberation, I'm proud to present the fan casting that absolutely no was asking for: The Muppets' Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812:

Rowlf the dog as Andrey

The token human as Natasha (cause every muppet show needs one)

Janice as Sonya

Camillla the Chicken as Marya

Pepe the Prawn as Anatole

Miss Piggy as Helene

Rizzo the Rat as Dolokhov

Statler and Waldorf as Old Prince Bolkonsky

Prairie Dawn as Mary

Gonzo as Balaga
and last but not least

Kermit as Pierre

Think about it, Disney.
One thing I find fascinating about Great Comet is the way characters talk about the war. Their tone tends to be light when mentioning it, but there's a repressed gravity behind their words. They don't want the war to come to them, so they hide behind jewels and fashion and operas. But it impacts every path that every character takes. The very first lyrics in Prologue are "there's a war going on out there somewhere". The war is happening, that's not debatable, but it's "out there, somewhere".
Natasha lets her anxiety show, but it's centered around Andre. She would have near the same worries if he were away on anything else. She misses him and loves him (which is a topic for a whole other post) fiercely. Additionally, when she brings these fears up to Marya in Moscow, Marya quickly changes the topic to dresses and games.
The only real time the war is brought up with real severity and anxiety is when Andre finally comes home. In Pierre & Andre, Andre repeats the line "there's a war going on". This time, he drops the "out there, somewhere". He knows exactly where the war is and knows that it's not something to speak lightly of. This line gives me chills, both for it's delivery and the way it wraps up the opening motif.
I never had the chance to see the show in person, but from what I've heard, this effect is magnified by the decoration of the hallway leading to the theater. The hallway is desolate and cold, with recruitment posters and propaganda on the walls. But then you enter the theater and it is lush and luxurious. The war is happening out there. Not here. We can't let it happen here, and we will prevent it through head-on denial.

Dolokhov, remembering the important things
I sit and think about how we’re all just walking our individual paths but sometimes our paths align perfectly with someone else’s and you either walk the rest of your lives together or it’s just for a brief moment in time and you carry on. We’re really all just walking each other home. Life is so magical.

Great comet fans are u out there. can u hear me??? Here is natasha as a little lamb :) I'm planning to draw as many great comet characters as creechurs as possible as a little design project hopefully i follow through <3 pierre will be a bear obviously

Bonus dramatic lighting edition >:)

Some costuming sketches of Natasha in no order! You’ll notice much of it is taken directly from the show, but I made changes here and there.
The biggest observable changes are probably-
1. The inclusion of a fur hat
2. The dark turquoise Act 2 dress
3. The seafoam green accents on the dress for The Ball.
Below I will go more in-depth on my changes and additions.
Breakdown outfit by outfit-
1. Hardly any changes to The Opera.
2. The inclusion of a fur hat to keep out the chill, and gloves and closed boots for the very same purpose. The flower on her hat is blue because I see it as her core color, accented by rose pink to echo the rose pink flower she also wears.
3. Darker blues accent her dress as she becomes drawn to Anatole. Her shawl is also dark, and accented with the Kuragins’ key color of green, but framed in red, Marya’s color. Her hair is down in braids and she is barefoot because she is pictured at home.
4. Hardly any changes.
5. I took the basic design of her Act 2 outfit and changed it from white to turquoise. This is kind of a blending of her color and the color of the Kuragins. The dark accents on the dress are actually a dark green, to further support this.
6. Hardly any changes.
7. I made her hair a little looser, and the white of this outfit dimmer and warm and desaturated. As it says on the image, her colors have become more dull in correlation with her spirit breaking as well as the show’s reality set-in of Andrey returning.
8. The Ball is very similar, but her hair is adorned with both blue and green flowers, she has long gloves, and her dress is accented with seafoam green to match with her dance partner Anatole. This would be the first green we see on Natasha aside from Helene’s coat, and so it is a lighter and subtler green that in time becomes realized in deeper colors in outfits such as her main Act 2 dress.
Thanks for reading if you did read! These are clearly messy sketches and not as detailed as the actual costumes would be drawn and I have not very much experience in costuming but it was a fun exercise nonetheless! Give me your thoughts if you have any!

man I forgot how wrecking the comet of 1812 was

(to avoid any confusion, the Broadway recording has Josh Groban as Pierre, while the original has Dave Malloy as Pierre)
this reminds me of the prologue to Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812
Crowley: What are your adjectives? Aziraphale: …You mean my pronouns? Crowley: No, I know what your pronouns are! What are your adjectives? Aziraphale: …I dunno. What are yours? Crowley: Noisy and chaotic! Aziraphale: I’ve never had something go from making no sense to making complete sense so quickly.

All 4 of my Malloysical Tarot entries! I finished these ages ago but thought I should maybe actually post them! I think my favourite is either Challiapin. It's the cleanest, has some good line art and use of colour, plus I really like how I incorporated the original card!
More art on the way soon!

sometimes i think about the way i was introduced to great comet. so last summer i went to this music theatre camp. it's a weeklong thing and at the end we perform two ensemble pieces and a solo. and for one of our ensemble pieces we did prologue. as it started out we were going to do a parody of sorts and replace the names and qualities with some of the actors'. (mine was: asher is hot, he spends his money on coffee and food). and we went through the week with this but like halfway through the week we decided to just go with the original. but we didn't change any of the blocking and looking back, now more familiar with the story, some of that and the casting just kinda funny. i (anatole) spent most of the song drinking out of an empty root beer bottle with my pal (marya) the whole thing was just an interesting time and fun to think back to.
fun story: I thought that when Dolokhov said "forced him to marry his daughter" it meant that Anatole had been forced to marry his own daughter. I was p confused but I went with it until i expressed my confusion to a friend and he's like "no ash, the landowner's daughter". Ohhhhhhh.
