Percy Jackson Disney Plus
So confessions here, I never really got into Percy Jackson growing up. Idk I read the first book and tried the second one, but it never really hooked me for some reason. Anyway the new series started on Disney Plus and since Goosebumps was pretty good I figured I would check it out, and it's been pretty great so far. I'm loving all the characters and the actors are doing great. I'm especially excited that Charlie Bushnell is in the series since I loved him in Diary of a Future President.
“you’re the first person i’ve ever felt this way about” is actually insane like the possible characterisation deepdives this series is gonna bring might kill me on the spot
the fact that she burned a milkshake that meant nothing to her and he still came? the fact that it started raining as soon it got hard for her meaning poseidon was already there? the fact that he listens to her even though he knows he's not going to like what she has to say? the fact that he came even though zeus didn't want him to?
Poseidon really LOVED Sally, huh… the fact that she called and he didn’t even waste a blink of an eye to show up? The fact that she knew he would come? The fact that he didn’t talk to his son to protect him? The fact that he acknowledges Sally as the only person who raised Percy? The fact that he is aware of how hard it is for both of them? The fact that he knew that Sally didn’t want Percy to go to camp just yet? The fact that he actually cares that? Much??
Godsdamn.
Walker is Percy irl and i stand by it
"walker's nothing like percy" then what is this percy jackson behavior from his tiktok account huh
POSEIDON DESCRIBES HER AS A GOD AMONG WOMEN
Percy Jackson burning the blue jellybeans as an offering to try and talk to his mom instead of his dad who’s a literal god. He was so right for that Sally Jackson is the only goddess I know
So… The first two episodes of Percy Jackson are awesome !!!
On the other hand, it kills me, because there are already criticisms coming in and people are complaining that we are revealing the identity of Percy's father too quickly, when that is not at all the goal of the story.
That Percy killed the minotore very easily, even though it is precisely supposed to be a testimony to his great power as a demigod, especially one of the big three.
How childish it is, even though the protagonists are actually 12 years old. Like HP in the end, the story grows at the same time as the protagonists, that's… normally the goal when you follow young characters who grow over the course of the story ?
Then also, that it reflects the usual mythological clichés with Hades as a lightning thief… Lol, these people are not ready.
I feel like they can't wait until they have the overall story to judge. As if you were watching Harry Potter and directly expecting the atmosphere of the 5th books and its sequels ? This is completely stupid.
Especially when it comes to the madness with the father, that was never the main plot. Have these people even seen the trailer ? I already see critics saying that it's the Harry Potter of the poor and Harry Potter among the scoots…
Which is cheeky because, sorry, but Percy Jackson is a much better literary saga than Harry Potter in my opinion…
The number of people I've seen say that it was flat and very clearly predictable… Well, given everything that happens in 5 volumes, hats off for having managed to guess what's happening throughout the whole saga ! No, but more seriously, I'm sure that what's in their minds is light years away from everything this saga does over its 5 volumes.
They did water it down a little to fit the mood of the show but it is still very much there, it's still abuse but they've only shown the tip of the iceburg.
Abuse isn't just yelling and hitting, it can be much more subtle.
if i have to see one more person say that the show downgraded gabe from being abusive to just bad im gonna get my head stuck through a wall out of frustration. sally had to ask him permission to leave her own home with a car she probably pays for as the only person with income. our first impression is him being verbally abusive to a repair person. percy has to brace himself before going inside because he knows it's not safe in HIS own home. gabe ANSWERS SALLYS PHONE WITHOUT HER PERMISSION. he only backs down from making fun of percy when he finds out he was kicked out of school for violence- he's almost impressed. we didnt see gabe physically assault anyone but we have a whole season left to see him go on public tv and frame his own stepson for murder. please please understand that sally yelling back at her abuser does not make him any less abusive or mean he has any less power over her
I liked these two episodes because they truly captured Percy's two most important traits:
He absolutely loves his mom
He hates the gods so fucking much
honestly i love how the faster pace made annabeth seem 900% more batshit. girl watched percy for 45 minutes total and then pushed him into a river. no explanation, no buildup. it’s like the third scene she’s in and it establishes her perfectly. casual drop that she is the head camper of the athena cabin with no explanation as to what that even means. this girl’s soul is 750 years old and does not even care that it’s in a twelve year old body. iconic.
If disney cancels it all because nico is gay I will go apeshit
You know what panics my soul? The possibility of the Percy Jackson show not reaching its conclusion. Like, we're talking about five vastly different seasons, at least five years of allowing this show to run. And let's be honest, lately a lot of really good things have been getting cancelled. I mean, it doesn't even matter if you have the numbers anymore. I've mostly seen lots of people really excited for The Titan's Curse, which is not that far away, but still... there's a whole season in the middle that needs to be approved. For my part I really want to see The Last Olympian, as it's one of my favourite books ever, but I'm so damned scared of the possibility that all we're going to get is this one season. And it terrifies me how many people talk about future things, mainly Nico, as if they're a given. Because they're not. There's a real possibility we aren't going to be able to see this through.
He doesn't get to ignore you.
I'm gonna make him come down here.
Wait there is a spiderman musical? That wasn't just a bit?
i hope the pjo show makes lmm hermes. not him playing hermes; he IS hermes.
percy: you’re hermes? wait aren’t you that guy who wrote hamilton
hermes: i made a bet with apollo bc he said i wouldn’t be able to write a musical better than him. i needed to prove my superiority. artemis gave us each a topic to write about.
percy: what was his show about?
hermes: spider-man.
percy: there’s a broadway show about spider-man??
hermes: exactly.
I’m going a little wild over the fact that Percy started feeling the effects of the chimera’s poison two minutes before he collapsed. I thought this part of the episode was weird when I first saw it because the camera focuses on him when it seemingly should be focusing on Annabeth, but then, I realized Percy’s odd behavior while he’s in focus.
He also turns abruptly, and a little late, to Annabeth, as if he just remembered to listen to her, as if he’d been distracted by something.
Then, this boy starts cracking jokes to cheer her up instead of saying, “Hey, something’s wrong; I could literally be dying.” And you can see on his face a few seconds before he collapses that the poison’s starting to really get to him, and still, he doesn’t attempt to get her attention and ask for help.
Then, when they’re at the fountain, he tells her and Grover that he’s feeling better even though he obviously isn’t, because he’s hoping he’s physically strong enough to pretend. (He falls on his ass.)
100% Percy just didn’t want to worry them and thought there was no way to find a cure in time anyway. I’M SCREAMINGG
You have no idea how excited I am for this show
I'm thinking about Percy passing out in EP 4, and like. To get to that point, the pain had not just kicked in. This boy was in pain for a while before he was no longer able to walk.
The way Percy and Grover exchange deli meat and cheese in the first episode just
The demigods literally do gods work
Hot take but the percy Jackson show does not “spell everything out” you are just an adult and have a greater understanding of the concepts being presented. Not to mention that if you read all the books multiple times you are picking up on the foreshadowing. Newer and younger fans are not.
Also hate to break it to you but I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again. Percy Jackson is a children’s book and the show is a children’s show. They are not going to “grow it up” and make it more adult for you.
In fact it actually presents a lot of complex topics, unhealthy family dynamics, Percy and Annabeth’s conversation about unconditional love, victim blaming and punishing, trust and relationship building, grief and loss, self-sacrifice etc.
Older fans, we are adults and I’m sorry but it’s not about you anymore you grew up but the story did not. And there are young people experiencing this story for the first time. And some things do need to be expressly told to them.
(Also I think people forget that the books actually outwardly explain and “spell out” a lot especially in the first book)
HAPPY SOLSTICE!!! :D
he just keeps getting better every episode. "god? you mean jesus??" "i'm sally jackson's son!" medusa: you could betray- percy: bye and now my new favorite: persus 'excuse me that's my fatal flaw' jackson
keep on slaying walker <3
