🔮🔯Magickal Herbs🔯🔮

“I am protected from that which would do me harm.” Feel free to use and alter as you may need.
Original sigil by The Mori Witch.
My favourite magical protection methods
draw protection symbols on the soles of your shoes to protect you wherever you go
throw a pinch of salt and rosemary over your shoulder to get rid of stagnant energy or any negativity that is thrown your way
keep a jar of salt and protective herbs on your altar to protect and cleanse your space
if you include animal spirits / remains in your craft: ribs are great for protective wards because their function in the animal is to protect vital organs
make protection sprays or oils that you can quickly anoint yourself with throughout the day (if you want to be more subtle about this you can put them in empty perfume / cologne bottles)
hang up bundles of dried protective herbs over your doors, mirrors, bed and altar
Energy Fix Spell Jar
It has been a while since I made a spell jar, but the time seemed appropriate. Things have been unusual hectic in my house, enough that I almost suspect I'm cursed (probably nothing so dramatic, but eh).
You can use any combination of these herbs (plus an other herbs you prefer for luck reversal, cleansing, protection, etc). I have a few blends for protection, but this was the combination I was vibing with tonight

For the jar
I put my finer-grained things on bottom then layered as I felt appropriate.
Black salt (protection, driving out negative energy)
Powdered eggshells (protection)
Powdered feverfew (repels negativity and promotes harmony)
Hyssop (purification, and honestly one of my favorite cleansing herbs)
Rue (protection, especially against curses, banishing negativity) [do not use if pregnant]
Angelica Root (cleansing, keeps evil spirits and curses at bay)
Valerian (protection and purification)
Lemongrass (cleansing, one of my favorite herbs for clearing negativity and other blockages, especially spiritual ones)
Layer in jar, seal with black wax. I added a sigil to the cork but am a silly goose and did not get a picture of it. I then wrote my intention on a bay leaf to burn.
For this, I invoked Hecate, because she found my at my lowest years ago, and I can always feel her with me at these points. I trust in her, and I know she will guide me through this with her infinite wisdom. Feel free to invoke whatever deities feel appropriate, or just call on the universe. Completely up to you and how you practice.

Tuesday Magic: Protection Oil
To harness the protective energy of of Mars, why not infuse an herb-infused oil?
Ingredients
Bay Leaf
Nettle
Cinnamon
Cloves
Black pepper
Olive Oil
Lemon essential oil (optional)
Instructions
Add the first 5 ingredients to a jar. I don't measure how much I use and tend to let intuition guide me. As a personal rule, I try not to fill more than half of the jar with the dry ingredients.
Add your carrier oil. Make sure you cover all the dry ingredients and then some.
Since I usually use protection magic in unison with banishing and cleansing, I like adding 3-5 drops of lemon essential oils for the purifying nature.
Close your jar and store in a cool place without direct sunlight for about 2 weeks, shaking it every few days.
If you want to add a little extra oomph to your work, you can add on a few extra steps. Maybe light a black candle as you focus your intention. Draw protective runes and sigils on the jar. Place protective crystals like black tourmaline on the lid.
Kitchen Witch Recipe: Balsamic Roasted Sweet Onions
The mundane: This fairly simple side dish takes the humble onion and really helps it shine. The sweet onion balances nicely with the tang of balsamic vinegar. There's a nice depth of flavor. Plus it's fairly simple to make (always a bonus in my house) and something different.
The witchy: This side dish is brimming with protection and banishment magic potential in the form of the onions, vinegar, and even the parsley garnish at the end, as well as your classic salt and pepper duo. This is an excellent side dish to make to utilize Saturday's protective energies and to enhance banishment workings.
Makes 6 servings, so adjust as needed
Ingredients
2 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon olive oil
6 small sweet onions
1/3 cup balsamic vinegar
2 tablespoons dry white wine
1 tablespoon sugar
Salt and pepper to taste
2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley to garnish
Directions
Preheat your oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit
Peel the onions and cut them into halves
In a baking dish large enough to fit the onions, combine the butter and oil. Once combined, whisk in your balsamic vinegar, white whine, sugar, and salt and pepper.
Add the onions to the dish, placing them in a single layer, making sure the cut side is facing down.
Cover loosely with foil and bake about 20 minutes.
Remove from oven. Turn each onion over and brush them with the pan juices. Make sure they are well coated!
Put them back in the oven, uncovered, and bake another 20-25 minutes until onions are tender and have browned.
Serve warm or at room temperature. Garnish with parsley, and enjoy!
To add a little extra magic to it, feel free to make a ritual of it. Light a black candle as you focus your intentions during prep and cook time. Call upon any deities you might want to work with. Say a chant for protection or banishing. These little things can really add a little extra razzle dazzle to something that feel otherwise mundane to some.
Unsolicited Witch Tip 25
Grow angelica in your garden or in a pot for protection around your home.
Does anyone know any good hexes for an emotional abuser and the people who defend them?
The Ring Of Fire: An Elemental Spell For Protection

Today is a very special day. I’m celebrating the release of my newest book, Elements Made Easy: The Workbook! To mark the occasion, I’m sharing a sneak peek inside the book itself. This fiery protection spell is pulled straight from the workbook and draws on the power of the sun to create a powerful ward around the caster. Fire and solar energy are closely related but solar energy tends to lend a secure, stable element to fire magic. To take advantage of that this spell uses 6 candles since the number 6 is commonly thought to hold solar energies.
You Will Need:
6 candles (use electric if you have carpet to avoid a fire hazard)
Matches or a lighter
Salt
A quiet area away from distractions, pets, or children
Step One:
Set up your candles in a circle, make sure that you have enough room to sit and move comfortably within the circle. Choose a candle to be your cardinal point, all actions and movements start here. Beginning at your cardinal point, sprinkle salt just outside the ring of candles moving in a clockwise direction, make three full circles this way (you should vacuum or sweep the salt up immediately after your spell is closed).
Step Two:
After your third time around the circle, when you come back to the cardinal point, pause and face the candle that designates this point. Take your matches and light the first candle saying, “With this candle, I focus my intent, protect me from all that would harm.”
Step Three:
Work your way around the circle clockwise, at each subsequent candle stop, light it, and recite the corresponding verse of the incantation.
Candle 2: “With this candle, I call peace into my life, give me tranquility and safety from the chaos of the world.”
Candle 3: “With this candle, I call energy to my work, may my spell be strong when I am weak and shield me when I need it most.”
Candle 4: “With this candle, I add strength and stability, may my spell be unwavering in its protection.”
Candle 5: “With This candle, I make my shields adaptable and versatile, any threat aimed at me shall fail.”
Candle 6: “I call upon the power of the sun, with this final candle I seal my ward! Protect me from all that would harm!”
Step Four:
Return to the cardinal point. You can stay in the spell and add more energy to it and meditate if you like. When you are ready to close the spell begin with the candle at your cardinal point, snuff that candle out first and work your way around clockwise, blowing the candles out as you go.
If you enjoyed this spell be sure to check out my new workbook, Elements Made Easy! Cottage Crafts: Elemental Magic Storm Ward [Original craft and instructions authored by bonesofaphoenix]
This is a home protection charm that draws its power from the energy of passing storm systems over your house and gives protection based on the energy of the storm and the damage it is capable of doing.
It’s meant to be a Dormant Ward, which is something that only activates when necessary. As wards can also drain a lot of energy, tying the ward’s powers to the storms that pass around you allows you to keep your energy for other things without having a bit of it constantly tied to a dormant ward, and allows the ward to easily and quickly adjust to circumstances making it a more powerful ward overall.
The point of the ward is to protect your house from minor storm-based damage that may occur- such as hail damage, water damage, damage from debri (like trash cans slamming into the side of your house- don’t laugh it’s actually happened to me and almost broke a window), potential flood or water damage, etc- OR decrease the damage done if damage is inevitable.
Please keep in mind, however, that this does not protect FROM these events in the first place and only helps prevent or protect from the minor damage. If you’re going to get hit by a tornado, the ward won’t stop it. If it floods, your house won’t miraculously be the only one on the block with the perfect yard untouched by the water. That’s unrealistic, and don’t expect this ward to do that.
Materials:
Storm Water / Rain water from a storm
4 equal sized sticks or twigs [preferably from a tree or branch blown down by a storm, but not necessary]
3 River rocks or stones
Spool of Jute Twine
Craft Glue
Some Clover or Dill (Optional)
Directions:
Gather all of your materials together and begin by lashing each of the four twigs together in a square shape at the corner using a standard lashing technique.
From the corners, one one piece of twine diagonally across the square and secure it on both ends (this can be done using a regular knot). Trim the edges and repeat with a new piece of twine going diagonally across the other side of the square.
Cut a long length of twine twice as long as the length of your square (round-about). Tie a rock to one end using whatever method you can get to work with the shape of the rock. With the end that does not have the rock attached, tie to the center of one of the horizontal sticks with enough twine left over to run it up through the center of the square (Wrapping it a few times around the crossing portion of the two diagonal pieces of twine) with enough left over to make a loop to hang the ward with.
To make the loop, tie the other end of the twine to the top stick, crate a loop, then use a variation of the standard lashing technique to secure it. (I really have no way to explain this better),
Run a shorter piece of twine from right to left across the center of the square again with the same method, without the rock and loop steps added. When all of these are finished, you should have a combined X and cross shape going through your square.
Tie the other two rocks to their or pieces of twine, then secure them with a basic lash + knot to the two corners of the ward on the same stick you hung the first rock from.
Secure all knots with a NON water-soluble craft glue to make sure they don’t come undone.
Adorn the center with a bit of clover for good luck, and allow the craft glue to dry for at least 8 hours.
Once the craft glue is dry, get your storm water and anoint the Ward with the Storm water while saying “Bound in Bindings, Bindings Bound, I tie this ward to any storm to come around, And if no storm then let it do naught, But if a storm, do as it aught; When in need its protections fly free, and if no harm then dormant it shall be. May its power wax and wane, Just as the storms who do the same.”
Hang it somewhere safe outside on your house (such as a hook on the underside of the porch ceiling if one is available), and you’re done.
Notes: The point of using the storm water, specifically, to enchant the item is to better tie it to the energies associated with storms. These wards are truthfully better done during a storm, or made prior to one and enchanted during one. However, if you’re like me and like to collect storm water then storm water is a pretty good alternative to this.
Jar Spell: "Stay Off My Turf!"
This jar spell is a ward that will protect your residence, vehicle, or any other physical location/object. It’s a type of aggressive defense that might entail something nasty happening to any would-be intruder or curse-maker, so you should be okay with any ill-wishing intruder getting their comeuppance for attempting to break the ward, as opposed to just being scared off. This spell is for marking your territory and promising harm to anyone who dares step over the line; this is baneful magic.

This spell can potentially involve bodily fluids (not blood) + animal products, but neither of these elements are required. It definitely involves destruction of the jar (glass is preferred for its tendency to shatter under blunt force trauma; safety measures will be discussed further on).
With all of that in mind, let’s get on with the spell!
You will absolutely need:
1 small-ish vessel with a lid, preferably glass
sealing wax (preferably red) or liquid glue
a tool with which to break the vessel, such as a hammer, large wrench, or other heavy object.
A durable bag in which to encase the vessel prior to breaking
For your medley of potential ingredients to go inside the vessel, you will want things that are aggressive, fiery, and martial. You want ingredients that do the symbolic equivalent of spitting in an intruder’s eye and kicking them while they’re down to ensure they stay down. Things that align with the planet Mars, and/or are affiliated with warrior deities whom you work with, and/or are connected to territorial animal spirits whom you feel connected to… they will also do well in this capacity.
Some ingredient suggestions are:
the spiciest pepper you can find, chopped but not seeded
a large helping of cinnamon
red pepper flakes
very hot chili oil
rusty nails and/or fishhooks
iron filings
a small quantity of urine (human or otherwise)
a braided black and white cord/ribbon to represent a skunk
a drawing of a moose’s rack of antlers
a tooth from a carnivorous animal
a sigil involving the symbol or name of a warrior deity/spirit
Directions:
Once your ingredients are assembled and in the jar, put the lid on seal it with the red wax and/or glue. Carve an X onto the wax/glue on the lid and put the entire vessel into a durable bag. Seal the bag, then say something to the effect of, “Fuck off, you bad vibes bastards!”
Once that is done, smash the jar using your smashing tool. (The bag ensures that glass shards don’t go everywhere and from there present a safety hazard). Your ward is now set. Dispose of the bag and its contents without opening the bag (to avoid contact with glass shards).
Protection Oil for Windows and Doors

When I was first learning witchcraft, my magic teacher showed me how she rubbed oils on her window and door frames. This is not a new concept; many cultures, from the ancient Egyptians through the Middle Ages, rubbed oils on doors and windows.
More commonly, people would hang, plant, or scatter herbs near their doors for protection. Oil blends are easier because they are subtle and can work in any home, including college dorms and apartments.
You’ll need:
Rose geranium oil (use plain geranium if you can’t find rose geranium)
Lavender oil
Frankincense oil
A glass, airtight container for the oils
Clean and consecrate your container. I used a vintage perfume container that I found at a thrift store. You can cleanse the vial through many methods, from crystal charging to moon water. Personally, I consecrated it with myrrh incense.
Combine the oils with two parts rose geranium, one part lavender, and one part frankincense. For example, if you use two drops of rose geranium oil, pour one drop of lavender and frankincense oils. I did ten drops of rose geranium and five drops of the other two.
Leave it on your altar overnight to charge. I placed mine on a wooden Goddess symbol. If you perform this spell during a full moon, you may charge it with the moonlight. Do NOT charge it in sunlight; the light will degrade the oils.
The next morning, take your oil vial outside with a cotton ball. Place the oil on a cotton ball and rub it along your door and window frames. If you live on the second floor or above, you may do this inside.
Try to rub the oil on all four corners, if possible. You do not have to cover entire doors in oil. A little bit goes a long way.
Refresh this spell every six months.

Banishing Entities
Clean and cleanse your space. Open doors and windows while you cleanse. As you get to every door, cleanse in a counterclockwise direction and state "I banish all negative energies and entities. Anything that does not serve my highest good (and the good of my family) leave now! (You can add an angry "get the fuck out" here if you wish ;) !)" In a clockwise direction state "I welcome positivity, light, love, healing, cleansing, happiness, abundance, prosperity, (good things etc.) and the protection of Diana (or whomever, you can choose elements, a deity, the universe...)." You can call the corners /elements to assist you as you cleanse the home. Make the sign of a pentagram after you state your intentions to lock the protections in.
Clean and cleanse your mirrors and do the same, but move your cleanser in a clockwise direction to banish and counter clockwise to welcome protection. You can draw pentacles with water and black salt or charcoal powder on all your mirrors and windows.
Make a simmer pot with vinegar and protective herbs/spices (bay leaf, mustard seeds, salt, lemon, black pepper, fennel, rosemary, clove...whatever you have on hand really). If it won't damage your floors, you can strain this mixture and wash your floors with it (dilute with water & add a bit more vinegar). You can make a separate floor wash with just vinegar & water + essential oils as well. You can wipe down your door frames and window sills with this too. Remember to salt the outside areas of your home after cleansing.
Cut a lemon and put slices surrounded in salt on a plate in every room, especially under beds (don't salt the lemons, just let them sit atop the salt!). If the lemons rot, the entity is still in the home. If the lemons dry without molding, your home is cleansed.
Take a nice long shower or ritual bath after you cleanse your home to avoid any residual energies sticking onto you. You can even smoke cleanse yourself if you feel it will help.
You can repeat this process as many times as necessary. Attrition warfare works if entities refuse to leave. They get weaker with every act of cleansing and banishing until they disappear completely. Of course, if you feel that this is not up to snuff for your particular situation, please find outside help!
Outdoor Protection Powder
If you want to protect your home, there are a variety of ways to do so. Runes, sigils, cleansing regularly, wards - but I feel like not many people realize that you can protect your home from the outside as well. This is my favorite protection powder to use.
What you'll need:
Spice grinder (Optional)
Shaker bottle
Funnel
1/2 cup Cascarilla (Protection, blocks negative energies/non-corporeal energies)
4 tbsp salt (Cleansing)
3 tbsp rosemary (Protection, welcoming in good energies)
3 tbsp basil (Protection)
3 tbsp black pepper (Protection from evil, blocking negativity)
2-3 acorns (Power-boosting)
What you'll do:
Add all ingredients to a spice grinder and blitz until it's a fine powder. This is optional, but I do recommend it.
Funnel the powder into a shaker bottle, such as a repurposed herb bottle from the store.
Some of my recommended uses:
Sprinkle outside underneath windows and across doorways to block negativity and protect your home from evil entering.
Mix with a little moon water and use a thin paintbrush to draw small runes or sigils on the glass of windows to prevent evil from seeping in.
Mix a tablespoon or so into a gallon of moon water and pour the entire gallon onto your front porch. The moon water will carry the effect of the powder widely to create a protected place for you to hang out. It sounds silly, I know, but it's effective.
I hope this is helpful! As always, be safe, do your research, and blessed be, everyone.

Protection Magic: Some Important Concepts

---------------------------------------------------
Long post based on my experience and research. Meant to be informative. I don't claim to know the absolute truth.
---------------------------------------------------
Protection magic is any type of work meant to protect A from B, and there are many ways that this can be done: prayers, charms, talismans, tokens, casting circles, setting up wards, visualization. The list can go on and on because it can be done in many different ways and combining many different methods.
But methods are not the topic of this post today. No, today I would like to talk about some key concepts to keep in mind before getting started on making protections and keeping them effective.
The Importance of Cleansing

Before doing any protection work I like to do a cleansing. Imagine you have an open water bottle, and because it was open, a lot of dirt has found its way into it over time. You decide to seal the bottle so no dirt comes in, but you don't pour out the old water, so you end up sealing it in. Yes, you'll keep more dirt from coming in, but the muck is still there.
It is easier to see this being applied to a physical location, but I personally also apply this to personal protective tokens. I feel they work better when you are taking care of your energies by doing regular cleanses and managing internal negativity.
Important Definitions
Protection ≠Banishing ≠Cleansing
I feel a lot of people are under the impression that these are all the same. I think they all work together towards a similar goal, but their jobs are different.
Protection: protecting something from something
Banishing: driving out entities
Cleansing: clearing out energy
You can do cleansing, banishing, and protection at the same time, but that doesn't mean they are the same. You can do a ritual including all of them, but you can also just do a cleansing or just do warding (which is a form of protection).
Note: cleansing is not restricted to “negative energy”. You can cleanse any kind of energy. Exemple: a friend of yours decides tarot is not for them and hands down their deck to you. If you wanna work with that deck it is highly advisable that you do a thorough cleansing of it and then infuse it/consecrate it with the energies you want. It's not that your friend has “bad” energy, it's just that you might not want to work with the same energies they have, or use a tool that has someone else's energy in it.

Not Necessarily a Lazy Job
One important thing with protection magic is that no matter how strong or how successful are at doing it is that it is not failproof. I have yet to see protection work that lasts forever, and there may be a few reasons for it.
Negativity also comes from within
Imagine you have a fish inside an open fish tank. Just like the bottle example earlier, you decide to put a lid on so you prevent leaves from falling into the tank and polluting the water. However, there's a fish, a living being in there, and it produces waste. It is impossible for the fish to live without producing waste. If you don’t regularly clean the water, ammonia and fecal matter will build up.
In this analogy, you are the fish. I am the fish. Humans literally cannot live without ever having a negative thought or feeling, it is part of our existence and we have to live with it. No one lives in constant bliss.
That doesn't mean we have to live in the muck though. That's why cleansing yourself is important.
No one is immune to the environment
Here I have another analogy for you. Imagine you're facing a harsh winter, but you are safe in the security and warmth of your house. Your house is protected from the cold so you don't even mind it. However, you have to go outside. You dress up, go out and you feel very, very cold. You could perhaps wear something warmer, but it will never feel the same as home. Yet it is better than going outside naked, no?
Same thing for energies. You can have protection, but depending on how strong the energy in the environment is you are sure to feel it to at least some degree. However it's best to have some protection than no protection at all.
And there is a difference between Feeling an energy and dwelling in it vs Feeling an energy and not letting it latch onto you.
Energy can wear off, and new energy can build up
Energy is ever changing, ever moving. If you do a strong protection spell once, it can last for a long while, but if you forget about it it will likely lose a lot of its strength over time. Some of what you put out there might wear off and be substituted by something else. The energy can also grow stale, which means it becomes less effective.
But if you do a strong spell every month you will not only make your protections stronger, but also constantly renew the energies and not let them stagnate.
So keep doing cleanses and every now and then give a boost to your protections so they are refreshed and recharged.
Note on "Negative Energy"
One of the main reasons someone might choose to do a protection ritual and a cleansing is to ward off negative energy. But is that really needed? What is "negative energy"?
Negative energy might feel like a sense of heaviness, dread, pain, sadness, feeling ill, angry, sad or anxious. Emotions produce and attract what we can call "negative energy", the same way it can make us feel those things.
And while I personally think nobody wants to feel them, we must understand they are not always bad at their core.

The uncomfortable feelings they can cause may also be a gateway for healing and transformation. Pain tells us there is something that needs to be worked on, that needs change.
If you are feeling negative, ask yourself why. Why does this bother me? What makes me feel this way? What can I learn from this pain?
If you happen to feel negative energy, it is good to cleanse and protect. But I advise you to always look for the source to see what can be done about it or what you can learn from it. Don't just try to use spellcasting to run away from your shit. Own your shit. Deal with it.
Otherwise, it will keep coming back no matter how much protection you have.

Conclusion
It is impossible to always be free from “negative energy” all the time, no matter how strong your protections are. But protections can absorb some of the blows that you would otherwise take and ease the ones you were going to take no matter what.
Protection magic alone will not solve all your problems. It is a great tool to help you keep your center and remain grounded, but it is not usually something you do once and forget. It is a continuous, ever evolving work, meant to be used in conjunction with other types of spellwork.
And most importantly, it can give you some comfort through the many trials of life.
Thank you for reading, and good luck on your path! ♡
