Snape Love - Tumblr Posts
Honestly, can I say something about the Snape War on tumblr? It needs to stop. Do a serious, genuine character analysis of Severus Snape. He’s a gray character, there’s no getting around that. Personally, I hate him and could go on for hours about why, but I’m not going to. I just want people who praise him as a hero to admit he has done horrible things without remorse and people who hate him to admit that he has done things that resulted in the saving of the wizarding world. Quit fighting over whether or not Snape was a hero. Admit that he was the grayest of gray characters. Yes, he bullied children and was obsessed with Lily(yeah, it wasn’t love. It was obsession), but he also spied for Dumbledore, despite it having potentially serious, even deadly, reprecusions(pardon me if I spelled that wrong, tumblr doesn’t do spell check and my google’s not loading.).
Snape was both an asshole and a good guy, a hero and a villain. You can love or hate him, but you need to stop and think: Is it worth it? Fighting everyone on tumblr over whether or not he’s ultimately good or bad will do no good. He’s neither, but also both.
A few reasons why Snape is horrible:
He relentlessly bullied children
He was Neville’s worst fear
He was obsessed with Lily years after she died(his patronus was exactly the same. If you think it wasn’t obsession, dm me and I will gladly hash it out with you)
He didn’t think to go to Dumbledore until Lily was in danger
A few reasons why Snape is good:
He spied for Dumbledore
Even after Dumbledore died, he did things to protect the students of Hogwarts(to an extent)
He genuinely cared about a few of the students(Draco included, and yes I think that.)
He never stopped trying to protect Harry
See? There are both good and bad things Snape did. Yes, he was an abuse victim. You could waste time pointing out that so were Harry, Sirius, and even Draco(certain emotional) were. You could also point out that abuse victims deal with their abuse differently. I’m not saying that Snape is good or bad. I’m saying he is both and also neither, if that makes any sense. So please, please quit with the Snape War and admit that he’s a well-written gray character.

Cravings for today: A fanfic about a professor at Hogwarts who secretly developed fondness for Severus. Years before the war, mc finds out that Snape is a death eater. Worried of the perils of her beloved’s shenanigans, she seeks audience with Voldemort in which she convinced him to make an unbreakable vow with her. The deal; She pledges her undying loyalty to him and does whatever he needs her to do, so long as Voldemort sends her to dangerous missions instead of Severus and promises not to harm him. All of these happens without the potion master knowing.
AaaAaaAaaa… I need this so bad rn I’m tempted to write it. 😭

To all of those calling Snape a homophobe spare me your tears and sorrows, as a certified Xie/Xier I am comfortable with him choosing for me. I made a pledge, a pledge to be his always and never disobey him. If this is what he wants it is what he gets, he isn’t homophobic for not respecting my gender 🙄

If so, there is a very very high chance I have read and enjoyed your work. (even if it's a rarepair, even if it's oc x snape, no matter the genre or pairing, no matter the skill level, even if it's unfinished, even if its deeply unserious, I cannot stress enough that i probably read it, and i probably REALLY liked it.) Thus far, I've been asking directly on a03 comments, but that's not ideal, So I'll ask here:
