Space Race - Tumblr Posts

I don't know if it's just a coincidence that this document is attached to a scientific report with a paperclip. A letter with a NASA letterhead signed by a Nazi scientist doesn't seem to fit the holidays. I think maybe I should let my curiosity rest for a while and leave these things in the file cabinets where they have been for decades.

Would you let her send you into orbit?
Another drawing of my Saturn V rocket humanization! I tried to finish this a few days ago for the 55th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon landing, but other stuff came up. Oh well! (And yes, I did take heavy inspiration from the Cantina scene from the first Star Wars for this drawing, heh.)

Hey remember when US and Russia was all like “We’re the best!!! We’ve won the space race!!!!” But India sent a kick-ass space probe to Mars and the whole mission was fuel efficient, costed less and a roaring success in the first try and then they were like “…..wait no that can’t be true” and still have the audacity to call us “underdeveloped” or only view us as a ‘third world country’? :)
For anyone who needs more info, the probe was called Mangalyaan (which literally means space probe vehicle) or Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) and you can also get more information here and here

A great tool for young historians and art lovers, Tom Clohosy Cole’s Space Race covers the USSR’s early triumphs of space exploration on one side the USA’s race to the moon on the other, all in beautifully illustrated style. Space Race is not just a stunning work of art though, as it includes an illustrated fact sheet detailing important breakthroughs in space travel on both sides of the Iron Curtain between 1957 and 1975, making it a fantastic tool for educators as well as a fun way for young historians to explore a defining period of the 20th Century.

"In the not too distant future, an International space race to colonise habitable moons and exoplanets, erupts. South Africa joins in the galactic free-for-all, as it sends a new colony of citizens across the far reaches of space."
