Gavilar: Wait! As my dying request can you instead kill everyone else I guessed except my family members?
Szeth: ...Okay not that sacred.
Look.. From what I can tell, Moash to brandon exists as another obstacle for Kaladin to over come rather than a character with interiority. Moash is just way too empty a character for me to believe Brandon has a future for him.
Not every antagonist or rival needs a redemption arch and not every character needs interiority. A source of conflict is important in making a cohesive story, sometimes breaking that conflict makes the story worse.
That being said, he wasn’t handled well enough that I can really defend Brandon for what he did to him. The narrative doesn’t want you to sympathise with him even for a moment. Nothing is ever questioned. Looking back on WoK and WoR, Moash feels like he’s just waiting around until he can fill the story’s roll as Antagonist, He doesn’t feel like he was even a person before then, let alone Kaladin’s best friend.
I don’t think he really even needs a redemption arch. I think if Moash had more spotlight in the beginning it wouldve been enough, if the narrative acknowledged him as a tragic character, and we were given room to care about him and sympathise with him, as we slowly watch him lose himself to hate, it could’ve been so much more satisfying.
we DON’T talk enough about “and vyre would see him dead first. a mercy.” i KNOW it’s fucked up and bad logic, but he genuinely believes he is doing right by kaladin. he wants to save kaladin from becoming like him and he thinks those are the only options. he is literally defying odium’s explicit command to recruit kaladin, because he believes that death is preferable to being odiums servant (the thing he currently is). and trying to get kaladin to kill himself is INEXCUSABLE but it’s insane how all his actions stem from his god-defying love for kaladin. sick over this. insanity inducing.

My proposal: in the days leading up to/of the ball, let's make fanworks around the idea that we were invited to Adolin and Shallan's wedding, but we couldn't go. So, gifts, letters of regret, short stories, that kind of thing. And then post them with a tag - maybe #worldhopper regrets
