Studio Bones - Tumblr Posts - Page 2
i’m scared for when 114 and 114.5 get animated and it’s because of how dazai acts in both chapters.
he is so animated and emotional here and for him, that’s very out of character. it’s clear he doesn’t have a plan at the moment and is coming to the horrifying realisation of what fyodor’s ability is and what he’s just done.

a thing with studio bones though, that many other people have talked about, is how they tend to remove most of the scenes with dazai expressing thoughts outside of this “haha i knew this all along lol i always have a plan” bs that he shows a LOT.

chapter 98 vs season 5 episode 7. come on now dazai. you’re allowed to be pissed.
but here, dazai kind of HAS to panic. the whole point is that he saw NONE of this coming and that he’s only piecing it together now, when it may be too late. he couldn’t have formed a plan to combat fyodor’s plan because he never could have guessed it would actually happen. this is, in his words, the worst case scenario.
bones can’t make him act like he does know what he’s going to do next. if he didn’t he wouldn’t be as scared as he is right now.
if dazai, someone who is extremely smart and can always predict events from a huge distance, is panicking, the audience (gcse drama coming in clutch here) will know something BIG will happen, because now we have one of the more “calmer in troubling situations” characters freaking out and losing composure completely. and it’s more than fair for him to freak out considering what’s going on at the airport right now.
but, if dazai is like “oh i knew it from the start (NO THE FUCK YOU DIDN’T BTW) hehehe i know how to solve this ‘,:)” the audience (specifically anime-onlys but i think it’s time for you guys to pick up the manga) is like “oh, he’s gotten it under control, if he knew from the beginning we should be okay” when it’s anything BUT okay at the moment.
dazai is scared. and that’s fine. he’s allowed to be scared. he’s allowed to not have a plan right away. he’s allowed to mess up, to not have thought this far ahead. hopefully he can come up with something in the coming chapters, but here, the point is that he hasn’t formed any sort of counter just yet.
bones is perfectly capable of getting scenes on point! they managed to execute chapter 101’s famous scene perfectly! hopefully this scene won’t be a victim of poor adaption. this is one of my favourites with dazai so far, and it’s the most expressive i’ve ever seen him.

thanks for reading! who’s excited for chapter 119? 🩵
I

can

not

believe

they

cut

this. Fuck studio bones, this was so important for the whole arc!
So besides the point that My Villain Academia is my favourite ark and I might be a bit biased on changes to it, especially because Spinner is my favourite character, but what they did with it is a terrible adaptation due to the pacing and scenes they did in the Endevour Agency arc. And I am going to explain why! I’m not going to even touch the animation style going from amazing to abysmal with Shigaraki and his flashback. Or the fact that Dabi is the tallest now or some reason. And don’t get me started on Spinner’s bad animation, (the link is a nice comparison by @helga-grinduil) because if anything it plays into quirkism that is now not getting adressed. So @mettywiththenotes already explained better than I ever could how they screwed up with Re-Destro’s introduction, but they did that way earlier already with the scenes of the PLF and Shigaraki destroying Deika. Watchers know the League are going to win, that takes out the threat completly. We know that they are going to make it out alive and fine.We saw Toga with both eyes intact alive and well, we saw Dabi, Spinner and Twice as part of the PLF. You can see Re-Destro in his pinstripe suit in the Hawks scene. You can make out Trumpet’s back and maybe with good eyes Sceptic’s. That leaves Geten’s, Curious’, Giran’s, Compress’ and Maschia’s fate undetermind. Two of them are enemies of the LoV that watcher’s most likely won’t care about, Giran is a background character and Maschia is the boss fight they have to win anyway, so that leaves Mr. Compress as the only person with an unclear fate of the entire ark to care about. We see Shigaraki in the Ujiko scene that happens in the episode before they get transfered and if you look closely you can see his missing fingers. So we know he’s going to be fine after the fight and it completly spoils the war arc. Let alone the fact that the power up got spoiled. As @robotlesbianjavert pointed out: screwing up Spinner’s narrative fails the narration and that’s something they can’t undo. If you bring the Spinner screams at Shigaraki later in a flashback it loses all emotion because we know how it ends instead of experiencing it the same way Spinner does in the manga. The reader sees through Spinner’s eyes in this ark, we saw the inspiration that he got from Shigaraki and the anime watchers should have gotten the same. The anime misses out on so much of them just being human normal being which is extremly important to the entire story, that they are people too. So cutting out all of it loses that. The banter with Dabi, Toga noticing Shigaraki misses Kurogiri, Compress’ thinking about his image, all of that is lost. Let alone it completly erases both Spinner’s backstory and the worldbuilding of discrimination. This was brought up earlier and it’s going to come back later. If they don’t cut it too, not that isn’t a theme that was in the manga since the first chapter. The “Mutant KKK” (as I like to call them) are part of making them seem human instantly. There are people who fight for awful things that have nothing to do with choice, aka discrimination based on how you are born and the LoV are killing them. It’s one of the easiest ways to make bad guys seem not as bad and it works, but the anime doesn’t have that. So for the viewers they are just the same child kidnappers from before. And Spinner’s narration backs that up, he’s a pretty normal guy and the viewers eyes and by cutting out the entire chapter we lose his intro and you start to wonder why this guy is the one narrating everything. Spinner is the one that asks Shigaraki what the plan is and this ark is the answer to that question for both Spinner and the readers. It amazing framing and it is completly gone. And of course the whole Sushi scene is why Shigaraki decides that he wants an alliance, because he cares for the League’s wishes. 220 adresses their poverty and they are in dire need of money not just by showing Compress’ broken hand like the anime did, but they are running low on food, Toga’s equipment is broken, their cothes are torn and Spinner is obviously not ok living like that.
@future-dregs already added to my post how important this all is for the future manga arc. Or as they put it: they shot themselves in the foot.
So when this comes back up later they are screwed, they’d have to stitch in illfitting flashbacks that are narrativly bad, change the story or just make it seem as if they included it earlier. And so far there no plans for this, since the voice actor of Spinner already confirmed that it’s not in season 5.
They will have to adress this and more: Why would Spinner be the most loyal to Shigaraki if he never doubted him? Why are they going to make an alliance with the mta if Mr Compress and Spinner weren’t uncomftable with their living situation? Why would Mr. Compress sacrifice himself like that if they are just average companions? Let alone stuff like: Why would anyone fear for the live of Toga if they saw her being fine? Why would anyone think that Re-Destro is threat if Miyashita isn’t in the anime?
all the world's a stage, and him - the one who rules it.
Blood Blockade Battlefront is New York at its Finest

NYC often gets a bad rep. Most people either see it as a smelly hellhole filled with crime and crappy attitudes or a breeding ground for hipsters and vapid socialites. People only see what they want to see without looking at the whole picture. This makes Leonardo's all-seeing eyes of God all the more important. Instead of lumping NYC into a box, he sees it for what it truly is; a chaotic blend of volatile elements.
The storytelling of Blood Blockade Battlefront is pure chaos from beginning to end. Leonardo is thrown into a world of highly deadly scenarios with very little breathing room in between. Each episode focuses on a moment in the character's life. One episode will focus on Leonardo befriending an amnesiac monster who loves burgers and another will feature a brigade of Charlie's angels-esque spies who happen to be invisible werewolves. It's the type of show that always keeps you on your toes because you never know what to expect. Some have criticized the show for its lack of an overarching plot and treat it as if that's inherently bad. Blood Bloockade isn't the type of show that needs a complex narrative. Its biggest appeal is simply seeing its eccentric cast interact with each other. Its episodic nature made watching it a breeze since viewers are never overwhelmed with too much information.

Worldbuilding is done at a casual pace where background lore is only given when it's relevant to what's currently happening. Since most characters are already well familiar with the lore, they usually cut the small talk and get straight to the action. In this way, the narrative mirrors New Yorker's aversion to beating around the bush. Show don't tell at its finest. We need more shows that just get to the point. Rie Matsumoto, director of season 1, feels a bit different about the story than I do, though. She inserted two original characters, Black and White, a pair of siblings who share a character arc that Intersects with Leo's. Under normal circumstances, this would have been an incredibly bad move. Filler in anime tends to feel pointless and just detracts from the story. Luckily, Rie Matsumoto made sure that the filler didn't feel like filler. It was fun watching the mystery surrounding the sibling duo unravel with each episode. It eventually culminated in a finale that was nearly an hour long. Matsumoto took a huge risk with her bold decision, but she definitely stuck the landing.
The production values of the show are also top-notch. Pretty much every episode is a reminder of why studio Bones is such a beloved company. They seriously put their key animators to work in both seasons. The fluidity of the fight scenes always left me impressed. Character designer Toshihiro Kawamoto did a great job at bringing Yasuhiro Nightow's art to animation with his iconic style. I love how even when Toshihiro is adapting someone else's character design, his style still shines through.
Special mention needs to be given to composer Taisei Iwasaki because he really killed it with this soundtrack. It's an eclectic blend of jazz, RNB, hip-hop, rock and more genres that perfectly captures the vibe of a busy New York City. Each track is a different flavor of the city and made me feel at home. The soundtrack truly embodies the chaotic feel of the show and captures its occasional serene moments perfectly. The true musical highlights are the openings and endings. BBB is one of those shows where you feel compelled to watch the full episode because the opening and ending are too good to skip. They're all incredibly upbeat songs that make you wanna stop everything and dance. Sugar song and bitter step is one of my favorite anime endings because of it's colorful animation and cheerful aura.

Blood Blockade Battlefront is the type of show that can really resonate with native New Yorkers. We see all the highs and lows of the city almost every day and you have to be just a little bit crazy to appreciate NYC for what it is.

I'm rewatching sk8 the infinity and omg bones what's your problem with fisheye
I swear this is a crime. We've only barely recovered from chapter 110, and NOW Bones wants to animate chapter 109?
Seriously?
Is this not an elaborate plot?
Ngl, Dazai's death scene being animated is gonna be another fisheye and a weird gurgling sound.
Or, Bones finally hired an accountant (highly improbable)
*Spluttering and choking*
Dazai's anime death, wasn't bad...
Is this a new beginning?
I see... the light calling me... to join the other side...
A theory on the Upcoming Episode
The next episode Bones is releasing is called 'Twilight Finale'
Lets break this down:
Twilight
Theory 1 - In the early chapters of the manga and episodes of the anime, the Armed Detective Agency are the peacekeepers of the Twilight - a time when the Government and the Port Mafia do not operate. The use of the word 'Twilight' suggests that this may be about the Armed Detective Agency.
Theory 2 - The franchise 'Twilight' is a gothic franchise about vampires, werewolves and romance. If we say the Armed Detective Agency are the 'Vampires' and the Hunting Dogs are the 'Werewolves' it fits rather nicely, considering in the 'Twilight' franchise they do have a war. (You can tell how little I know about Twilight lol)
Finale
Theory 1 - This could mean that this would be the last episode of Bungou Stray Dogs. The Last One. EVER.
Theory 2 - This could simply mean that this will be the last episode of season 5
Theory 3 - The author Dazai Osamu's last book was titled 'Goodbye'. The poet, Nakahara Chuuya, has a poem called, 'Autumn Song' which references a dying man who acts like all hope is lost for him. Do what you will with this information.
Theory 4 - This is the last episode Bones will make because they are very broke because they spent all their money on old man yaoi.
I feel bad for the animators
Manga: Akutagawa delicately biting into Atsushi's neck
Anime: Fisheye Atsushi, ugly Akutagawa, lots of random blood, probably some screeching
A Normal Day in Studio Bones
Animators, very stressed because everyone dissed their beheading scene: *Frantically drawing the Gay as to not disappoint* Asagiri: *Bursting in the room dramatically every 15 minutes to check if the Gay is still alive* Some Random Fan:*In the walls* SOME HOURS/DAYS/WEEKS LATER Bones Studio: *Watching the entire fandom scream like little girls watching the season finale*
Rewatching Kekkai Sensen (for reasons best not explained) and realizing what a twig Zapp really is...
Is that, among other things, just Bones shrink-wrapping? As they do with All Might in My Hero... (Stop shrink-wrapping everyone Bones... for the love of all that is deep fried and served on a bun).
But I swear Zapp's thigh looks as big as my forearm...
