Fyodor can't love himself through his POV. He can't tolerate his mind from his own perspective. Dostoevsky resents his being, his soul, and thoughts. They're tainted by Fyodor's self-judgement, disappointment in his results, unattainable standards, other inner struggles.

But then he imagines God, it's different. Fyodor takes a look into His higher mind through prayer, and sees light and warmth directed at humanity. That makes Dostoevsky want to be a part of it again.

Not in the present, though, where people are sinful and cruel. In the future. Fyodor will join the renewed, renovated humanity, freed from abilities, living joyfully in heaven. They'll all be loved by God, by each other and even by themselves. Forever. He wants to believe in that.

This is so beautiful ๐Ÿ˜ญ The way you describe Fyodor's wounds, and how they bleed into his severe trust issues. Dostoevsky's self-isolation is so painful that God becomes his only remedy.

It made me think even more about how bonds are important in the BSD world. It's always a huge risk, but high reward. Dazai and Sigma relationships are a perfect example of this.

Fyodor can still feel things, no matter how much he tries to hide it. We know where he channels his negative emotions (to sinners). But where do the positive ones go? Well, he dedicates them to God.

God is a time capsule for all the positive feelings that are still left inside Fyodor. They're too vulnerable, too tender, too childish to share them with humans. People will only trample over them and leave him empty.

But Dostoevsky still can't part with his sentiments. They give his heart a little jolt so it can keep living a little longer. So where can he direct them?

God is left as his only safe space for that.

Fyodor treats the concept of God like a coffer, where he can store his dreams from the earlier days. All of his hopes, aspirations, fantasies are better be locked inside the God's chest. Since God is the only one occupying Fyodor's brain, he'll keep them safe.

Devine being became a target for Fyodor's affection because He can't reject or hurt Dostoevsky in any meaningful way. It's left up to Fyodor's mind to imagine God as he likes. And so he does it.

God becomes not only a symbol to thrive for, but also a companion that helps him to cope with the loneliness.

God accepts all the Fyodor's needs humanity haven't fulfilled. His agonizing idealism, his need for deep understanding of his soul and a connection that makes him feel at home.

Surely, during the centuries of Fyodor's life, he came close to forming a bond with people at least a few times. But the process of separation was so painful, Dostoy decided it wasn't worth it anyway.

His failure to organically morn the end of his relations led to his fatal inability to reattach once again. Fyodor mistrusts new people in his life: he compartmentalizes them, puts on labels, and tries to keep every interaction under control.

The only one who can relate to this mindset is Bram, but even he is able to break away from it because of Aya. Stoker risks taking interest in the girl and then sacrifices his life for her. Now Bram's time is no longer frozen in place, he's moving forward, his character progresses.

But Fyodor is too overwhelmed with his feelings and memories that have never healed. He probably thinks that even a small bit of a emotional pain will break him entirely. So even if someone comes to Dostoevsky, waving a friendship flag in the air, Fyodor will shut down to keep them away.

 ,

This is what happened with Gogol. Nikolai wanted to be friends with Fyodor. But Dostoy never showed him any of his deeper emotions. By hiding all personal information, Dos-kun maintained a distance between himself and a jester. So the later couldn't reach out to and comfort Fyodor even if he wanted.

Of course, there is always a chance that Gogol would use Dostoevsky's feelings against him. And Fyodor also probably thought about that, so he cut off that option entirely. Sadly, we'd never see where their connection could lead, if Dostoevsky chose to share with Nikolai his everything. Maybe, it would lead to an even bigger disaster, but perhaps they would be able to find some solace in each other.

Now Fyodor is too hurt to open up his soul. All the scars on it had fused into an armor, protecting him from caring about others. Dostoevsky's soul became a shell, impenetrable from the outside. He made sure it would never change. His fortress. His prison. His mind.

Trapped inside of it, Dostoevsky still craved for someone to be there for him. Fyodor wanted a friend with whom he could converse without lying. He wanted a family. Maybe, he even wanted a lover.

Therefore, God was cast in all the roles that had been left vacant in Fyodor's life. And of course, Devine Being could fulfill them better than anyone. At least, from the Dostoy's perspective, his life was easier this way.

In Fyodor's story, God is a star of every relationship he still has.

God is almost like a friend, but he won't argue back or abandon him in pain. He won't make Fyodor feel inadequate by disagreeing with his perspective.

God is like a family, but he loves Fyodor unconditionally or at least His โ€œconditionsโ€ are kinder than human ones. They're much more bearable than the rules Dostoevsky had to abide by when he was a child.

God is like a lover, but his love isn't physically โ€œsinfulโ€ (whatever sexuality Fyodor has, it's very morphed and repressed). Devine being won't be put off by Fyodor's appearance and won't leave once He sees who Fyodor truly is.

God is like a teacher, but he doesn't have a hidden agenda and actually wants Fyodor to be better. God knows indefinitely more than Fyodor, so He can always share something new from His well of knowledge.

And of course, God will never change, die or choose someone else. He is always there.

It feels safe for Fyodor to love and admire someone who is so perfect.

And well, God can't disappoint.

It's interesting how Fyodor positions himself towards Fukuchi, whom he calls a โ€œDevine beingโ€. Fukuchi or Amenogozen, as he is now, is the closest thing to โ€œGodโ€ we can have on earth. And Fyodor is absolutely thrilled to control this DIY Devine Bring. Is it a blasphemy? Maybe. But let's look at what Amenogozen is.

 : ' ( )

How did Fukuchi turn into him? What happened to Ouchi's mind to make him act like he does now?

Amenogozen is Fukuchi's desire to get rid of suffering amplified. Ouchi used to see the whole world's agony as his own. Now he is a literal embodiment of everyone's pain, big or small.

 : ' ( )

Amenogozen has only one instinct โ€“ to turn everyone into bubbles and store them inside himself. He isn't just killing them, he โ€œeatsโ€ their souls as well. When Fukuchi erases a person in this way, all of their suffering becomes his (along with their memories and identity), thus giving their souls piece.

Amenogozen isn't explicitly hateful or cruel, but he is also far from human. He seemed to genuinely empathize with Teruko and, especially, Kunikida, during his last moments. He saw their anguish, sensed it (Teruko's grief, Kunikida's fear along with wounds). And Devine being thought he would help them. He would erase their suffering.

 : ' ( )

This is what Amenogozen sees as his mission: to kill every person, swallow their pain and โ€œsaveโ€ them by turning them into pure emptiness (in a cloud of bubbles, yes).

Gozen grew to respect Kunikida during their brief interaction. He even acknowledged that Doppo's ideas can transcend death itself. And yet, Fukuchi still decides to kill him. Because he sees โ€œdeathโ€ as the kindest option for every living being.

 : ' ( )

It seems like Ouchi came to this decision during his transformation. For us, it all happened in a few seconds, but for him, it probably lasted for centuries. He travelled through time and space indefinitely, until he became a Singularity. From outside it looked like a brief flash of light, but it continued for eternity in his mind.

 : ' ( )

Off-screen, Fukuchi went through a psychological torture like no other. He was forced to observe everything that happened to humanity, while being outside time and space, unable to do anything. Of course, he saw an immense amount of pain history is filled with.

Ouchi watched it unfold in front of his eyes, like a helpless disembodied ghost, unable to die or let go. He, who thought of himself as a warrior, was forced to be a bystander to everyone's agony. It all continued indefinitely and was extremely traumatic. Eventually, Fukuchi discarded what was left of his humanity and became โ€œGodโ€ to survive seeing all the visions of pain.

As a result, suffering became the only focus of his broken mind.

 : ' ( )

I think this what Dostoevsky has hoped for. Because he came to the same conclusion after living for centuries. โ€œDeath is the ultimate salvation, and nothing else can helpโ€. So Fyodor hijacked Fukuchi into the same mindset by overloading his brain with the images of agony.

Now, Amenogozen sees pain as life. They are inseparable from each other from his view point. So his goal transforms into erasing all suffering, by erasing all life on Earth. Fukuchi wants to be the one who bares the whole world's agony, while everyone's soul rests peacefully within him in the blissful oblivion.

 : ' ( )

Amenogozen is a twisted, distorted caricature of Jesus. He takes on everyone's pain by killing them. It's a befitting path for an ex-war criminal.

And what about Fyodor? Does he call Amenogozen โ€œdevineโ€ just because of his immense power? Dostoy certainly enjoys watching Yokohama being cut into pieces. But that's not only it.

 : ' ( )

Fyodor nicknamed his new weapon "Devine power" based on his philosophy about God.

Fukuchi isn't entirely gone. His motivation is what drives Amenogozen forward. Singularity craves to erase every source of pain / life, so much that he is ready to become a sinner, a monster, an empty void.

Just like Fukuchi in the past Gozen uses his body until he doesn't resemble a human anymore.

Ouchi lost his sanity due to his immense desire to free people from Samsara. Now he is a literal monster, but he is still trying to help and "save" everyone from pain, albeit in a twisted brutal way.

And this what makes him so close to a โ€œdevine powerโ€.

Because to Dostoevsky, God is someone who encapsulates everyone's pain, carries everyone's burden. Just like what Fyodor tries to do as his loyal servant.

Despite this, I think Fyodor calls Amenogozen โ€œGodโ€ ironically. He doesn't see Fukuchi as such, but he โ€œcomplimentsโ€ him for trying. Because Dostoevsky realizes how truly selfish this newly formed โ€œDevine beingโ€ is.

 : ' ( )

Before everyone's salvation, Amenogozen desires oblivion. He wants to disappear. But, just like Fukuchi, he can't do that, until his mission is entirely complete.

Amenogozen sees everyone's pain as his own. So he erases it repeatedly, as if it can save him. He can't distinguish his own soul from everyone else's, so he kills himself again and again through others, but still remains alive.

Amenogozen seeks relief through self-distraction, something to what Dostoevsky relates too much.

And Fyodor smiles because he knows: real God is only yet to arrive.

Dostoevsky hates having feelings. They remind Fyodor about his own humanity. So how does he cope? He projects his feelings onto God.

Every time he experiences an emotion, either positive or negative, he pretends that it's some kind of โ€œGod's messageโ€.

Fyodor believes that all of his emotions belong to God or come from him. Demon assumes: all that he feels is reflection of God's will.

โ€œMy ability hurt me and made me feel wrong. Of course, God wants to remove all the abilities in the world!โ€ โ€” something like that.

Dostoevsky can't allow himself to be angry, sad, bitter, or jealous. He sees emotions as excessive and would never acknowledge the simple fact that he has them.

But what If something upsets God? Then, Fyodor has to act. It's not for him, it's not selfish, it's for the sake of Creator.

And coincidentally, almost magically, everything that Fyodor hates, displeases God too. Everything that causes Fyodor pain, well, God wants it gone as well.

And every person who Fyodor likes, hates or simply can't save? God welcomes them in Heaven. In his Godly rehabilitation center.

Pretty convenient, yes?

You can see how Fyodor's faith isn't meant to restrict him. It's a system of beliefs he uses to enable and redirect everything he can't accept in himself. Every feeling, thought and compulsion Dostoevsky doesn't want to take responsibility for โ€“ they all come from God.

All Fyodor's love is for God.

All of his anger is for God's sake.

All his sins are God's responsibility, already predestined and included in God's plan.

This way Demon can't be held accountable for his actions or emotions. Because all Dostoevsky's feelings aren't his. They belong to God.

It's His will speaking through Fyodor's heart strings.

Since Dostoevsky can't have human emotions. Even all of his impulses are controlled by God and Him alone.

If likes or hates someone, it's not his personal preferences. It's Higher power sending him a signal.

Therefore Fyodor doesn't have to see or evaluate himself as an individual, but only as a continuation of God's will.

This way no shame, anger, or guilt can ever apply to him.

This what Dostoevsky tells himself.

People don't hate Fyodor โ€“ they hate God's will. Therefore, they are sinners. And will be treated accordingly. None of their words ever apply to Fyodor as a person.

So he'll do his best not to care at all.

Fyodor sees himself as hollow. The only thing that should fullfill him is faith, God, future visions. And yet, his mind, his flesh desires more than this.

Still, Fyodor doesn't see himself as an individual, but rather an instrument for Heaven's will.

Dostoevsky barely has any personal preferences and hides them well. The only consistent drive he is open about is a desire to be around beauty: classical music, delectable food, gorgeous people.

As if being around perfect and good-looking stuff can clench Fyodor's self-disgust.

Every time Dostoevsky is lavished with nice things, he feels like a rat, crawling into a royal palace. He doesn't deserve any of that. Not after everything that happened.

And yet, his little heart can't help but tremble every time someone gifts him an earthly pleasure: good wine, sweet tea, a peaceful atmosphere; people tending to him, surrounding him with all the comfort he needs. Fyodor can get addicted to it easily. But it never lasts.

There is a part deep inside of him that never relaxes, never gives into safety. Maybe, it's the part that ultimately broken or the one that belongs to God. It's restless and unstoppable.

Every time it wakes up, Fyodor's compulsion to save destroy the world takes over. Something triggers Dostoevsky, reminds him of his ability and he is back on his feet, searching for a way to fix everything.

Fyodor can never enjoy a good life for long enough. Every time he does, his drive drags him back into sewers,

where memories of peace

can only haunt him.

 :

Fyodor can't function without God the same way Nikolai can't function without freedom.

Their personalities are so off-balanced and incompatible with reality, they need something outside of it to feel whole.

Eventually, their immense need to rely on Freedom/God distorts the very source of their comfort.

Freedom gets bloody, and God becomes hungry for the sacrifice.

But it isn't that freedom or God have fundamentally changed. What changed were their brains of those perceiving them and their motivations.

Gogol and Dostoevsky needed an ideal that would inspire them to live, no matter how disappointed they are with their own existence.

Both Clown and Demon also looked for a justification, a place onto which they could project their hidden pain, without directly interacting with it.

Fyodor and Nikolai were pretty angry at what happened to them in the past. Whatever it was, it hurt. And still does.

But neither Dostoevsky, not Gogol can't acknowledge that. If they would ever do so, these two would have to admit: they still care about people and the way people treat them.

So each of the duo says that they're hurting others, not for the personal gain or out of a desperate attempt to feel better. No, they're doing for the ideal: be it โ€œFreedomโ€ or the โ€œGodโ€.

It allows both Fyodor and Nikolai to keep lashing out, while keeping their self-images intact.

They keep saying to themselves: โ€œI hurt others because of how inhuman I amโ€. While in reality the opposite is accurate.

They both became criminals because of their humanity, albeit flawed one.

Of course, Gogol's idea of freedom is almost broken or at least showing cracks. But Dostoevsky's obsession with God's is as strong as ever.

It'll only grow stronger, the closer Fyodor gets to the end of his goal.

Dostoevsky rushes towards it with all of his might because despite all his prayers and hopes, living with his version of God is still unbearable.

It kinda hurts.

And he wants it to stop.

Thread from my twitter about this official art because itโ€™s one of my favorite official anime art. This is actually part 1 because alot of people wanted a soukoku specific/Dazai focused part. So will post that here as well.

Starting off:

Theyโ€™re gorgeous here but what I really love is the detail of the red thread of fate. More specifically how & where the thread is wrapped for skk & sskk + Kyoka. Iโ€™ll start with skk.

Thread From My Twitter About This Official Art Because Its One Of My Favorite Official Anime Art. This

When it comes to Soukoku, my loves, Dazai has the thread wrapped around his neck. Chuuya has one end & itโ€™s wrapped around his wrist (the one with the scar that proves heโ€™s human btw), that seems to symbolize he's holding Dazai's life in his hands, at least partially. That's no surprise we all know they're inexplicably linked and fated etc.

Chuuya is always there to save Dazai & Asagiri said heโ€™s the only one who truly understands Dazai. But it's super interesting the other half of Dazai's string thatโ€™s wrapped around his neck is first wrapped around his own wrist, before continuing to Aku. This essentially saying Dazai holds his own life in his hands.

Which obviously seems super accurate since we know his is biggest enemy is often his own mind & the hole inside his chest that he has a hard time filling. Itโ€™s where his suicidal tendencies come from. But essentially, it seems like Dazai's life is held only by Chuuya & then himself and I love that detail.

This is in contrast to Atsushi, Akutagawa, & Kyoka. The thread is wrapped around Atsushi's throat & Aku & Kyoka both have it around their wrists. Essentially symbolizing *both* Aku & Kyoka have Atsushiโ€™s life in their hands. This seems to showcase both of their importances in Atsushiโ€™s life.

Also other than dead apple, given recent events with Kyoka saving Atsushi in the beginning of the DOA arc & Akutagawa's sacrifice for him later, that red thread being held by them continues making sense.

Also Aku's sacrifice was massive for his development & I hope it is our universes Aku at the end of episode 11 so we can continue exploring that development for himself & his relationship with Atsushi.

The red thread itself is typically to symbolizes those who are destined to be together, regardless of place or time. Which naturally makes sense for soukoku & their โ€œtwo bodies one soulโ€ situation lol Itโ€™s interesting that Atsushi has both Aku & Kyoka linked to him in this sense.

Thatโ€™s just my take on the art & why itโ€™s one of my favorites.

Ok, follow up post to the original cause I wanted to actually offer my analysis/interpretation on this.

I feel like this is a right/left brain analogy ๐Ÿงต

Dazai covering his right side, the side supposedly responsible for the emotional & artistic things. It says alot about his mindset, accurate for that time.

Itโ€™s intriguing, then, Kouyou covers the โ€œlogicalโ€ side

Ok, Follow Up Post To The Original Cause I Wanted To Actually Offer My Analysis/interpretation On This.

I feel like this lends to why Chuuya & Kouyou do get along well. While both Chuuya & Kouyou are no doubt very intelligent (Asagiri literally refers to Chuuya as a genius) they both still lean very much into their emotional side as well. Even if Kouyou seemingly does so less.

Kouyou reveals herself, however, not only in her care for Chuuya but we mainly see it how she handled the situation with Kyoka.

She could have insisted Kyoka come back without ever changing her mind but when Dazai presents her with a way to save Kyoka from dark, she agrees quickly.

Kouyou clearly cares & wanted to help & protect Kyoka even if she went about it poorly. She was trying to help based on her past experiences, lest we forget that she tried to leave the mafia herself once, for *love* no less. She also tends to get emotional when talking about her past or her wish to help Kyoka.

But once she was presented with another solution, a far better one, she didnโ€™t do โ€œwhatโ€™s best for the mafiaโ€. Kouyou agreed to what was best for Kyoka & that was definitely a more emotional choice.

This is an area where Chuuya & Kouyou align. So, of course they would get along.

Chuuya always seems to find the balance between his logic and emotion. However, he can easily & often does lean more into his emotional side first, then his logical side.

Itโ€™s similar for Kouyou, even if we donโ€™t see it as much from her.

Back to Dazai then, when he left the mafia & the cover on Dazaiโ€™s โ€œemotional sideโ€ was gone Dazai seemed to also move more towards that balancing of the two sides.

He started off heavily relying on his logical brain & struggled emotionally. Often feeling numb or apathetic mostly, hence his suicidal ideation.

Then he meets Chuuya & this shifts. Chuuya forces him to experience new feelings. As Chuuya is a living breathing example of most things Dazai felt the world lacked. It opened Dazai to the idea that there is more to the world, there is more to *people*. Chuuya intrigues Dazai enough to make him want to live a little longer again. Chuuya gave him a reason to keep going, a promise of more.

From the moment he met Chuuya, it was a process of letting more & more emotions seep into his mind & his heart. We see how he feared for Chuuya in 15 even after they just met, even though Dazai *knew* it was a plan.

Ok, Follow Up Post To The Original Cause I Wanted To Actually Offer My Analysis/interpretation On This.

I might even venture to go as far as to say Dazai may not have feared for someone elseโ€™s life that hard before. It was a burst of unrecognizable emotions to him. After this, he only had more & more emotion seep in as the years went by. In Storm Bringer he was ready to sacrifice the city to give Chuuya a choice.

That relationship opened Dazai up to others later, namely Oda & Ango. Which only further encouraged the intermingling of his logical brain and his emotions. Then reaching the point at which the bandages were finally removed entirely and then he, like Chuuya, moved to striving to find the balance rather than relying on one side.

Bringing us back to current Dazai as he is still attempting to find that balance.

He still leans more his logical side. This, of course, in contrast to Chuuya who, while intelligent, more easily leans into the emotional.

Yet another thing between them that completes & balances each other. Soukoku will always pull the other back when drifting too far.

So, of course, Soukoku complement each other & it benefits them both.

Having Kouyou on Chuuyaโ€™s other side I think also does help Chuuya stay grounded while in the mafia. Chuuya isnโ€™t one to lose who he is but I think having someone else who he knows *cares* like he does helps.

Ok, Follow Up Post To The Original Cause I Wanted To Actually Offer My Analysis/interpretation On This.

Now, additionally, if we apply this to Beast, I think this also says alot about beast Dazai & why Asagiri says beastzai would be the hardest for someone to portray.

Because *this* Dazai, is perhaps *too* far into his emotional side. Heโ€™s always intelligent but in beast, his actions arenโ€™t fully logical, theyโ€™re emotional.

He appears cold & calculating as always but he saw another version of himself suffer the great loss of a best friend & allowed his emotional desire to prevent that from happening take control. Thus, his emotional side takes over, thus him covering the opposite side from canon Dazai, heโ€™s covering his โ€œlogicalโ€ side.

I feel like this is the main difference between all the various Dazai weโ€™ve seen.

PM Dazai relied heavily on his logical side, especially before meeting Chuuya. He rarely took emotion into account unless it involved the 3 people he actually cared for. We see him make emotional choices when it involves Chuuya, Oda, and Ango. Dazai did seem to let more and more emotion seep in over time as a result of knowing them, however, leading to that moment the bandages are removed.

Beastzai is leaning far too heavily into his emotional side, getting lost in it even. Acting solely on an emotional desire rather than a logical one. His desire to prevent a tragedy. He only was using his intellect to further that emotional desire.

Current/ADA Dazai is the balance of the two, and seemingly the closest to happiness.

ADA Dazai uses his logical brain as always but he also actually takes emotion into account as well and has more people he actually cares for now.

I think that says alot to the theme of bsd, leaning into that โ€œeverything is greyโ€ dynamic. Everything is about the *balance* of things. Showcasing that anything in extremes in either direction doesnโ€™t work.

Anyway, just some thoughts I had and interpretations of mine. Take them as you want, as always.

Oh and just to be clear, I donโ€™t think Dazai was ever โ€œemotionlessโ€, even at his worse. Even if he was numb and apathetic. He was also lonely.

Just saying the more people he came to care about (Chuuya, Oda, Ango then later the ADA) the more he was able to feel a variety of emotion.

Nakahara Chลซya, and Miyazawa Kenji... Quite the unique bunch, aren't they?

The allegedly 'inhumane', gravity manipulating beast, and the temperamental, often starved sunshine child.

They're explored separately throughout the Manga, and are given their moments to express their characters through words and actions. At first sight, they'd be rendered polar opposites. However that may be true to an unknowing outsider, their current knowledge would never allow them to understand, to comprehend what lies within.

One loyal dog, another morally grey sweetheart.

They do meet once during the main plot; multiple times during the spin offs and once during the anthologies. They're portrayed to be an admiring boy with his idol. It's truly an adorable sight to behold.

The feared Mafia executive, and the loved, yet feared agency part timer.

It's a pity that they'll most probably never get the right opportunity to connect with one another. Their past experiences and sorrows are the key factors that would assist them to truly understand each other's emotions, as they both know what it's like to grieve over loved ones. They both know all too well what it's like to be the strongest; to be the pillar of support that everyone depends on in certain situations; their trump card. They both harbor abilities that are mighty, double edged swords, unstoppable when provoked, even harmful to oneself when pushed to their wits end. The weight of responsibility could weigh on them akin to dead weight, but they persevere through it, and they manage to make it through victorious. It's truly fascinating however, that the difference in environment could impact the path taken, and ideals followed by each. The way by which they choose to handle predicaments they're to be put in reflects the duality of humans that are infinitely similar and different concurrently.

Bottling up their issues and emotions isn't foreign to either. One due to his upbringing, and the other solely because of the fact that he has no time to deal with them. Life is moving, and the mafioso cannot afford to be held up by pitiful emotions. He is capable of destressing using quality wine in the safe confines of a bar table. The young blonde on the other hand is a stranger to pitiful anger, sadness and irritation. He has been up to never feel the need to be anything but happy. Yes, it might have effectively impacted him, making his perspective and views brighter, much more optimistic and inviting than most. However, emotions such as hunger are no stranger to him. He could be half starved to death, yet not a single complaint would leave his lips. He's far too accustomed to it. He doesn't acknowledge it anymore, and that is not healthy.

A lost soul, and another wandering one.

I dare say Nakahara sees a fragment of his youth in the blonde countryboy. Nakahara would go to unimaginable lengths just to keep the boy's smile genuine; to keep it cheerful and glad to be in existence as ever. He'd try to reserve the boy's happiness, because he was too familiar with it being stripped away.

They might just be the shoulder that both of them needs to lean on, cry on in case the infamous ginger winds up lost to the alcohol.

If only the mangaka gave it a serious chance.

(TDLR; I firmly believe in and support the Chuenji sibling dynamic.

Petition to allow the Miyazawa family to adopt Chลซya, aye in the comments if you agree.

Hope you liked this pointless piece of meta that literally no one asked for. I'm pretty sure most of my points have been repeated over and over by other people, but never hurts really.)

I want to talk about one of the most terrifying and interesting bsd characters who almost no fan remembers.

This character nearly tore down the ADA without ever getting involved herself, yet the entire fandom has ignored her because of her terrible anime adaptation.

Who am I talking about?

Nobuko Sasaki

I Want To Talk About One Of The Most Terrifying And Interesting Bsd Characters Who Almost No Fan Remembers.
I Want To Talk About One Of The Most Terrifying And Interesting Bsd Characters Who Almost No Fan Remembers.

If you haven't read Dazai Osamu's Entrance Exam, then you probably don't even know who this character is, in the anime she is watered down to the lovesick girlfriend of an actual villain, and you probably dismissed her immediately. But in the light novel, we get to see how dangerous and cunning she really is, to the point she nearly gets the better of Dazai and almost causes the ADA to be shut down. (Fukuzawa says he would have closed the agency if they hadn't caught her)

In terms of intelligence I'd put her on the same level as Mori, just slightly below the super human genius characters i.e. Dazai, Fyodor and Ranpo

The Azure Apostle

For those who don't remember, Sasaki was the Azure Apostle, a mysterious figure who challenged the agency with several horrifying cases, which would all lead to mass casualties if the agency failed to stop them. These were; uncovering an underground organ smuggling operation (which the agency failed to stop and which massively hurt their reputation) stopping a bombing of Yokohama port which could have killed hundreds of people, and preventing a commercial aeroplane from crashing into the city (this was not included in the anime)

Each of the people, who committed these crimes, had no Idea they were being manipulated and thought it was their own idea the whole time. There was no evidence that anyone else had been involved at all, and the agency had no way to connect her to any of the crimes. And she even makes the genius move of framing Dazai, the mysterious new member with suspicious knowledge of the underworld and a hidden past, as the true culprit.

I Want To Talk About One Of The Most Terrifying And Interesting Bsd Characters Who Almost No Fan Remembers.

In fact, she only made one mistake, challenging Dazai. If Dazai had been basically anyone else, they would have been cornered and arrested, but since Dazai's mind works on a level even master strategists can't imagine, he was able to turn the tables on her.

I Want To Talk About One Of The Most Terrifying And Interesting Bsd Characters Who Almost No Fan Remembers.
I Want To Talk About One Of The Most Terrifying And Interesting Bsd Characters Who Almost No Fan Remembers.

But even after Dazai sees through her plans, the ADA still has to act exactly the way she wants them too and stop the plane crash. Even when they know they're being manipulated, they still have to do exactly what she wanted.

Finally, after Dazai and Kunikida confront her and get her to admit to being behind all those crimes, even then they are powerless to stop her.

I Want To Talk About One Of The Most Terrifying And Interesting Bsd Characters Who Almost No Fan Remembers.

Even after being involved with so many massive crimes, Sasaki herself hadn't done anything illegal, so within the law the ADA is completely powerless to stop her.

I Want To Talk About One Of The Most Terrifying And Interesting Bsd Characters Who Almost No Fan Remembers.

They can't arrest her, and if they try then the agency will be put in even more danger as will many innocent lives. She has completely trapped the ADA, and even Dazai in a choice to follow the law and let her go or take justice into their own hands and prove they will stoop as low as she did.

I Want To Talk About One Of The Most Terrifying And Interesting Bsd Characters Who Almost No Fan Remembers.

In the end, there she has them in a perfect deadlock, let her continue her mission, or kill her themselves. Both are bad outcomes for the ADA.

In the end, Dazai has her killed by using a third party (Rokuzo) to shoot her, so the agency can't be blamed for her murder, though this ends her plans it deeply scars Kunikida and shakes his resolve in his ideals.

I Want To Talk About One Of The Most Terrifying And Interesting Bsd Characters Who Almost No Fan Remembers.

The trauma from this event still haunts Kunikida to this day, we see that when he is affected by Q's curse, Sasaki is who he sees.

I Want To Talk About One Of The Most Terrifying And Interesting Bsd Characters Who Almost No Fan Remembers.

So thats the Azure Apostle, a terrifying master mind who nearly brought down the Armed Detective Agency, but now lets look at the other side of this character.

Nobuko Sasaki Herself

We know several things about Sasaki as a character and her history from the light novel. That she was a brilliant criminal psychologist and was internationally recognised despite being so young

I Want To Talk About One Of The Most Terrifying And Interesting Bsd Characters Who Almost No Fan Remembers.

,that she was the ex-lover of the Azure King and the real mastermind behind his plans, and that she had very little motivation of her own.

That's not meant to be an insult to the character, she says herself that she never really had much direction in life, even with her incredible intelligence she never really had anything she wanted to achieve.

But the Azure King was the opposite, he had powerful drive and strong ideals, he wanted to punish criminals who couldn't be touched by the law and when he failed to change the law as a bureaucrat, she offered him an alternative.

I Want To Talk About One Of The Most Terrifying And Interesting Bsd Characters Who Almost No Fan Remembers.

A very important thing here is that neither of them were manipulating or forcing the other into this path, as far as we see they genuinely loved each other, each providing something the other couldn't, Sasaki her mind and the Azure King his drive.

When the Azure king died, Sasaki had no path of her own to follow, so she simply kept following his, even though she doesn't seem to have really cared about his cause.

I Want To Talk About One Of The Most Terrifying And Interesting Bsd Characters Who Almost No Fan Remembers.

All of this creates a very unique character, you can't say she was driven by revenge, because she wasn't really driven at all. It's more like she was running on momentum, she had chosen a path to follow and could not stop even though there was nothing pushing her down it any more.

She's a perfect antithesis of Kunikida and was the best possible villain a light novel about him could have had.

A man who brings his ideals into reality with his own hands against a woman who uses others to enforce ideals that were never hers to begin with.

Anyway, I made this because Sasaki is criminally underrated in this fandom, If you haven't read "Dazai Osamu's Entrance Exam" I highly recommend it, I've only put a tiny fraction of the amazing story here.

Dazai and Ranpo: The Two Geniuses of the ADA

The thought about making a post about Dazai and Ranpo's teamwork has been plaguing my mind for a while now, and so I finally found some time and decided to go through with it.

So let's talk about one of my favourite underrated duos for a moment. The two geniuses of the ADA- Dazai and Ranpo. Two people who make a wonderful team and are actually, in my opinion, the backbone of the agency.

What I find interesting is that (though I believe that Dazai respects and admires all members of the ADA) Dazai openly admires Ranpo A LOT. He's always quick to praise Ranpo (basically fanboying over him and it's quite adorable to see Dazai gush over someone like that other than Oda) and in 'Dazai's Entrance Exam' we see him being surprised over the fact that Ranpo's ability is not actually an ability and we see him further praise Ranpo's intellect after finding that out.

Dazai And Ranpo: The Two Geniuses Of The ADA

Despite the fact that Dazai is a huge mystery, even to the people around him, Ranpo figured out that there was something up with Dazai in just a single glance (in 'Dazai's entrance exam'). And despite knowing that Dazai was probably hiding a sinister past, he didn't press him any further for details (probably in order to respect his privacy or his wish to not disclose his past OR maybe due to the the fact that knowing Dazai, he most likely wouldn't answer truthfully even if questioned about it)

Dazai And Ranpo: The Two Geniuses Of The ADA

What I also love is that even though both of them are extremely intelligent, their intellect differs in such a way that Ranpo is a master of deduction and Dazai is a master of manipulation (as stated by Kunikida in 'The Daily Routine of the Detective Agency'). However, one thing both of them share in common is that they both felt isolated due to their nature.

Dazai And Ranpo: The Two Geniuses Of The ADA

They may have limited interactions but their interactions are always my favourite, for instance-

1. Dazai's entrance exam - Dazai's admiration and respect towards Ranpo

Dazai And Ranpo: The Two Geniuses Of The ADA

2. Season 1 - Murder on D-Street - Dazai showing a good understanding of Ranpo's deduction process and acknowledging that Ranpo caught onto more details than him

3. Season 2 - "Mountains or sea?" " Sea. "

Showing their unspoken communication. They can read each other's minds at this point lol.

4. Season 3 - Ranpo basically acknowledging that Dazai would be a tough opponent to go up against by comparing Fyodor to him (sort of praising his intellect in a way)

5. Season 5 - The Strongest Man in the Agency- Ranpo

Dazai And Ranpo: The Two Geniuses Of The ADA
Dazai And Ranpo: The Two Geniuses Of The ADA

Dazai keeping an eye on Fyodor while leaving the rest to Ranpo

Dazai relying on his allies- trusting Ranpo to negotiate with Bram in order to undo the vampire curse.

Dazai And Ranpo: The Two Geniuses Of The ADA

6. Dead Apple - Ranpo seeing through Dazai's plan beforehand.

Dazai And Ranpo: The Two Geniuses Of The ADA
Dazai And Ranpo: The Two Geniuses Of The ADA

7. 55 minutes - Seeing through upcoming events beforehand, one thing Dazai made sure was to inform Ranpo about the whole fiasco on Standard Island in order to save the Agency in the end.

Also, sidenote: I found out that the Dazai and Ranpo duo is named Souheki, which translates to double jade. Now, I'm not sure if this information is fanon or canon (feels more like fanon tbh but I really like it because it's a pretty name)

Anyway, one thing we can say for sure is that as long as the two geniuses of the Agency- Souheki work together, the ADA will most likely remain undefeated cause no one really does it like them

Dazai And Ranpo: The Two Geniuses Of The ADA

Lastly, just some food for thought. I've always wondered how Dazai would react if he found out that Ranpo met Oda TWICE and the second time he met him was right before Oda went on to his certain death.

Honestly, I would LOVE to see more fleshed out and direct interactions between these two.

Mori is a grounded genius, and I love it

We all know how BSD super geniuses can sometimes feel way over the top and almost like their just all knowing, this is mostly limited to Dazai, Fyodor and Ranpo, but I wanted to talk about an underrated genius who feels a lot more grounded and realistic

Mori Ougai.

Using a death threat written in crayon and a gifted who no one could ever take seriously (Kaiji) to make the guild underestimate him, only to destroy their base and two of their top gifted without a single casualty.

Faking an assassination attempt to find out where the agency's base is.

His strategy of using the office staff to get the guild and agency to fight each other without wasting any manpower was amazing and he managed to get both sides in a position where they couldn't refuse despite knowing it was a trap.

All of these are brilliant strategies that workout exactly as he wanted, but they are also grounded in real life tactics in war and actual game theory, which we know Mori study's, they also all make sense and don't rely on some kind of crazy super omniscience to work like some of Dazai's plans. overall it makes Mori feel like an actual competent leader and that makes him even scarier.

He makes mistakes, Mori also does sometimes make mistakes in his strategy, or is blindsided by things he has no way of knowing about, like unleashing Q which was a reckless move that he probably only did because he was over confident after all his victories.

He is blindsided by Lovecraft since he could never have imagined their would be someone immune to Q's curse in the Guild and it cost him dearly when the city was nearly destroyed.

He is also very opportunistic, making a deal with the agency to benefit the mafia, taking advantage of their desperation to bolster his own forces.

He never makes a move that doesn't benifit him, and he always acts logically which makes him both more terrifying and effective, he doesn't pointlessly try to destroy the agency when it wouldn't help him.

He doesn't try to take over the world, he simply works to maintain the city and organization he loves using whatever means necessary even the most cruel and disturbing things imaginable.

Overall he is an amazing villain/character who I find far more scary then Fyodor and I'm glad he is written so grounded yet terrifying

Let's talk about Coats in Bungou Stray Dogs, and what they mean

[i.e. a repost of perhaps my most famous BSD analysis ever]

Mild spoilers for Beast, Dark Era, and Dazai, Chuuya, 15 ahead! (I'm thinking of posting an explanation of how the Beast Universe works soon anyway... lmk if that's something you'd like!)

If you've come across this theory before (uve most likely seen me talk about it on tiktok or youtube), you've probably heard already that the coat or outerwear a character is wearing (especially if it's different from the rest of their outfit) is indicative of the persona that they're trying to project.

You may have noticed, for example, that the colour and the way that Dazai wears his coat changes depending on the organisation and universe he's in. Let's start by taking a look at his Port Mafia outfit from the Canon universe:

Dazai's Mafia outfit. It consists of a white button shirt tucked into black slacks, with black shoes, a tie, and a large overcoat draped across his shoulders. His arms, neck, and right eye are covered in bandages. In the image on the left he is 18, and also wears a black vest and suit jacket. The coats he wears at age 15 (right) and 18 (left) are different; the coat he wears at 15 seems larger and has a long belt.
Let's Talk About Coats In Bungou Stray Dogs, And What They Mean

As you look, remember that Dazai joined the Port Mafia against his will. He only joins because Mori promises that if he's useful to him, he'll provide Dazai with a quick and painless way to die:

"Dazai, if you really want, I can prepare a drug so that you can end things comfortably," Mori claimed, opening his desk drawer and pulling out a sheet of paper that he swiftly wrote something on.
"Really?"
"You need to do a quick investigation for me in return, though," he said as he kept writing. "It's not a difficult task. Nothing dangerous. But you're the only one I can go to for help."
"Sounds fishy." Dazai eyed Mori reproachfully.
[Mori had] slit the previous boss's throat with a scalpel, then covered the murder up by claiming the leader's illness had brought on convulsions and he needed a tracheotomy to open his airway. Dazai, then only fourteen years old, had witnessed all this firsthand.
"Someone who must never rise from the grave, huh...?" Dazai muttered. After a few moments passed, he heaved a reluctant sigh and stood up. "Looks like I really am the only one you can go to for help," he said before snatching the piece of paper from Mori. "You're gonna get me that drug, then, okay? You better keep your word."
Mori smirked and replied, "This is your first job. Welcome to the Mafia."

And now I want to get into why Dazai doesn't actually want to die, but that's a whole other post for a later time.

So, Dazai joins the Mafia, rather begrudgingly, and dons the relevant 'uniform' as he does. This is necessary to show Mori and he other members of the PM that he is committing to the role; it is necessary for survival.

The important thing to note here, however, is that he wears his coat off-the-shoulder. Of course, this could just be chalked up to the questionable fashion standards of teenage boys, but when we consider that the coat is like a representation of the Mafia's values... it becomes an indication that Dazai is putting on a persona; one that he's ready to throw away at the drop of a hat. The are three reasons I know this is how he feels for sure:

we saw the exact moment Mori recruited him, and how reluctant he was to join;

he actually did throw it all away the second he had the chance;

Beast. let me explain.

Have a look at Dazai's outfit in Beast, where he takes on the role of Mafia Boss:

This outfit is very similar to what he wears in the Canon PM, with a few notable differences:
1. His left eye is covered in bandages, not his right
2. He's wearing a full three-piece suit (like 18!zai)
3. He's wearing a long red scarf, draped over the outside of his coat.
Let's Talk About Coats In Bungou Stray Dogs, And What They Mean

There are several notable differences here, but for a moment I just want to focus on the fact that he's wearing his coat properly. That was the one thing that really struck me as significant the first time I read BEAST: in the world where Dazai has to fully commit to the role if he wants his plans to work out, he pushes himself to play the part, regardless of how he feels.

The next huge difference lies in the bandages: here, his left eye is covered, whereas in the Canon manga his right eye is covered. There are several theories we could derive from this: a popular one is that each eye represents light and dark, respectively. In the Canon universe, Dazai covered the eye that saw the light, so he could more easily resign himself to living in darkness. Then, Oda pulled the bandages away, and he found himself running towards the light. I could talk about this for hours, but for the sake of brevity... ouchies.

Moving on. Another thing to note is that, duh, there's a bigass scarf around his neck here. Why? How? It looks an awful lot like Mori's... which could mean nothing.

ANYWAY. Coats. Isn't it interesting that Akutagawa also properly wears his coat (a hand-me-down from Dazai, nonetheless) and spends a vast majority of his time trying to prove that he is worthy of being in such a high position within the PM? Isn't it interesting that his ability, the entire reason he became the Mafia's guard dog, relies on that very coat? His entire personality and reason for living becomes so entrapped within Rashoumon that the two are practically inseparable.

Akutagawa in Canon. He's entirely dressed in black, save for a frilly white shirt that pokes out from the collar of his huge overcoat.
Akutagawa in Beast. He wears pinstripe pants, a black button-down shit, and a white tie. His grey overcoat is slightly too big for him, and it has tattered edges along the hem.

In Beast, when he's given a coat that echoes that of Oda's, he still uses it (via Rashoumon) like a shield, and like a weapon... but he tries to learn how to be more gentle. The beginnings and intentions are almost the same, but the outcomes are totally different. Which is very telling. I'll let you connect the remaining dots on that one.

Now, there is one more Mafioso character who wears his coat off-the-shoulder in Canon. But for some reason, in BEAST, he doesn't wear a coat at all... Strange, right?

Let's Talk About Coats In Bungou Stray Dogs, And What They Mean
Let's Talk About Coats In Bungou Stray Dogs, And What They Mean

I am, of course, talking about Chuuya. And the thing about Chuuya is that defining the representative idea of his coat is much more difficult than it was with Dazai, purely because there was so much going on at the time he joined the Mafia. He was betrayed by his closest family, while simultaneously feeling like he betrayed them. He had no choice but to accept Dazai's offer, which was actually Mori's offer. He'd been backed into this corner by Dazai, but also by the Sheep, and he'd lost everything, but was being offered all the things he used to pine after: answers, protection, relative safety. Maybe even family, something he could devote himself to- but all this lay in the hands of the organisation he'd promised to eradicate. He was going through it, as the poets say.

Personally, if I were to assign his coat with a specific ideal/persona, it would be this: acceptance of the Mafia, and hatred towards Dazai. Just like Dazai, wearing his coat off-the-shoulder indicates that he doesn't fully prescribe to their ideals... but in this instance, it also means that he doesn't truly hate Dazai like he claims.

I know, fork in the kitchen. But I also want to point out something that helps drive this perspective home for me: whenever they fight together, as Soukoku, Chuuya takes his coat off. He has a lot of fighting quirks, actually- he always keeps his hands in his pockets (something that is echoed by Dazai ohmygod I cry whenever I think about it), takes his hat off for Corruption (this is discussed in-depth in Storm Bringer), takes off his gloves when he wants to ramp up Tainted Sorrow. But, just like the coat, this only happens whenever Dazai is around. Chuuya literally and figuratively bares himself to Dazai, which can be read as something necessary for him to be saved by No Longer Human, yes, but it would be remis of anyone to ignore the fact of their trust in one another.

There's one more reason that I think these two ideals are so intertwined: it is, you guessed it, Beast!

The interesting thing is that here, where you'd almost expect him to wear something similar, Chuuya simply doesn't have a coat at all. Why is that?

If we follow the same logic that we did for Dazai, we can assume immediately that Chuuya doesn't want to hide behind a facade here. He has no facade to consider hiding behind. He's honest about his work with the PM, and open about his complex feelings towards Dazai- mostly his hatred, though that manifests purely because he's frustrated; a part of him knows Dazai can be doing better, or working differently, but he can't understand why. Or maybe he does understand why, and this frustrates him even more.

It's extremely complicated, and I feel like the way I've said things makes no sense, but I hope it's at least got you thinking. What does this truly mean for Chuuya? What does it mean for Atsushi, who doesn't wear a coat in canon, but does in Beast?

(I already have a post delving into Atsushi's character design, which I think is genuinely one of the coolest things ever!! I don't discuss Beast in it, but it's a great starting point if you're interested <3)

I feel like I've rambled on too much, but I'm fighting brain fog rn so this is as coherent as it gets. I hope this has helped you learn something, or made you interested in delving deeper into costume design in BSD as a whole. I kiss you mwah!!!

I need to understand this! Someone to just, I don't know, sit and analyze it with me or something.

Okay, Dazai's bandages. Yes, I have seen headcanons or theories, whatever you want to call it. Some say it's to cover the scars from his suicide attempts or scars from self harm. Others say it's because of his ability. Others think he's transgender or non-binary. All that are valid points but I have a specific way I wanna talk about this. The bandage on the eye. That's my focus and what drives me crazy.

Mafia Days Dazai, one of his eyes covered.

I Need To Understand This! Someone To Just, I Don't Know, Sit And Analyze It With Me Or Something.

Picture from Dark Era light novel.

From the very moment we see Dazai in the past, we see he has his eye covered. With that, his depth perception is gone. So, why? Why does he cover his eye and takes away an advantage? Of course, the longer he has it the more used to it he is but why did he do it in the first place?

Present time Dazai, no eyes covered.

I Need To Understand This! Someone To Just, I Don't Know, Sit And Analyze It With Me Or Something.

Panel from Chapter 97.

He has them uncovered. Yes, Oda took the bandage off and Dazai kept it as such and it's probably because Oda did that he kept it but bear with me.

BEAST Boss Mafia Dazai, other eye covered.

I Need To Understand This! Someone To Just, I Don't Know, Sit And Analyze It With Me Or Something.

BEAST Manga Panel from Chapter 12.

Beast!Dazai covers the other eye. Now, if you have read the BEAST light novel, you know that this Dazai is aware that he's living in a book and has gone through many realities in said book and as such choose to cover his other eye. Why? Was it because it's an alternate universe? But, if he has gone through many, why is BEAST the one he changes the bandage's position? Or has he changed it before BEAST? Still, why?

And the last one, which isn't about the eye being covered BUT the hairstyle. Stupid. Dumb. Bear with me here.

Dead Apple Dazai, no eyes covered but side-bangs.

I Need To Understand This! Someone To Just, I Don't Know, Sit And Analyze It With Me Or Something.

Dead Apple Manga Panel from Chapter 4.

Joining the bad guys in the movie, he changes his hairstyle. Why? Ofc, he looks amazing dear God but he didn't have to change his hairstyle.

So, what all this makes me conclude, except of giving me a headache, Dazai changing the bandage, not having it or changing his hairstyle has to do with morals. In Bungou Stray Dogs, everyone has questionable morals, all characters fall into this grey area, some having "good" and others "evil" tendencies. Dazai is just simply, morally grey. He's not good, he's not bad, he's just there, he doesn't care what side he is in, good or bad. Yet, he goes through these changes, why? I truly think it has something to do with his morals.

Mafia days and BEAST have the eyes covered because he doesn't have "good" morals. He does bad things and mentally gets worse. It's kind of like he feels he doesn't deserve to see the world in full if he does bad things to it, also blocking him out from seeing the good in it. But, I cannot explain the whole, changing the eye which gets covered at different realities.

His eyes being uncovered in the ADA, although I do believe it has to do with Oda, it's also because he acts with "good" morals. He is a "good" guy. Saving and helping people and so if in the Mafia days he felt he didn't deserve to see the world then by doing good, he allows himself to see the full world and also it's good side.

And Dead Apple... that hairstyle will not be brought back so I donโ€™t have to analyze it and it's probably one of the things that will never get answered BUT his eyes aren't covered, meaning if we take what I said, he allows himself to see the good in the world even though he's in the "bad group". His bangs being pushed to the side feels like he's saying something I can't pin-point. Is it because his morals are being questioned? Like how he can so easily get to the bad side but also be with the good guys? I don't know.

OH MY LORD! LONG ASS POST! I'M SORRY, GOODBYE!

Am I about to do something that has already been done 100 times? Yes.

Let's go!

Am I About To Do Something That Has Already Been Done 100 Times? Yes.

This. How many of us have gone crazy trying to analyze it? Yeah. I won't analyze the whole thing or else this post will be big as freak.

I want to focus on something particular.

Am I About To Do Something That Has Already Been Done 100 Times? Yes.
Am I About To Do Something That Has Already Been Done 100 Times? Yes.

These lovely cards. And the green light particles, or presumably light snow, Tanizaki's ability.

I have seen people say that Tanizaki and Atsushi will help Dazai somehow with the whole prison thing?? Which, doesn't make sense because both of them are in Yokohama.

Whatever Atsushi's and Tanizaki's job are, it's going to have to do with the Yokohama POV. Meaning, whatever card Fyodor is holding is most likely NOT Chuuya. Heck, Chuuya is already represented in the cover.

Am I About To Do Something That Has Already Been Done 100 Times? Yes.

Here. That's Chuuya's representation in the cover with the Sheep's skull emblem, the red camellias and even the little crack. So the card, is not Chuuya. I'll gladly be proven wrong, though.

Back to what I was saying, Atsushi, Tanizaki and the card person will probably have nothing to do with the prison but will play a big role with the events in Yokohama. So, who is in the card Fyodor is holding? I don't know. I can sit and look at it zoomed and still not know, I just think I see a suit? Don't quote me on it.

I have a weird thought, Teruko ลŒkura in chapter 99 asked Atsushi to meet Ranpo, so maybe, Tanizaki will create an illusion, just in case. The card that Fyodor is holding can very well be her but I'm not sure. Look, with the page having the rule "police won't believe ADA" and just because Tachihara broke out of it, means nothing since Tachihara was also in the Mafia, the Mafia isn't police and so, he accepted that part of him and it helped him see the truth.

"What about Saigiku Jลno?"

He was literally shown the truth about it, not the full one but it doesn't take a lot to figure it out. "Fukuchi is the bad guy, not the ADA." or something along those lines. He would be considered, faithfully blind if he couldn't see the situation for what it was, even if the page influences them.

That's it. I babbled, nobody cares, I'll leave you all be. Bye.

warnings : mentions of ab*seใƒปBSD BEAST/BSD spoilers (???)

Warnings : Mentions Of Ab*seBSD BEAST/BSD Spoilers (???)

โœง dont know if this counts as anything but: odasaku wasnt dazais father figureโ€”and as much as i hate to say this: mori was.

the toxicity of dazai? his never ending list of red flags??? the root of it all is mori, because he โ€˜raisedโ€™ dazai; not odasaku. mori took dazai under his wing and influenced himโ€”shaped him into who he is.

all in hopes of dazai becoming a spectacular, one of a kind mafia member, if not the next boss; mori himself speculated that he wouldnt be shocked if dazai were to assassinate him and take his place as the next port mafia boss back in dark era.

โ€ฆ(at age 23 to be preciseโ€”dazai is 22 in the canon and current timelineโ€”dazai rejoins pm agenda WILL become reality)

even in 15, when dazai asked mori โ€œwho do i remind you of?โ€ (correct me if i quoted it wrong my memory is shittier than a gold fish with dementia)

mori responds with โ€œmyselfโ€.

odasaku couldve been the healthy father figure, but that doesnt mean that he actually was. (even though that i desperately wanted him to beโ€ฆ)

so, if dazai was found by odasaku and not mori, then yeah, our sonny boy wouldnt have turned out to be so fucked up. but unfortunately, that isnt the caseโ€ฆ

though shoutout to beast for feeding into my delusions! because if there are multiple universes with multiple different outcomes, that means that at least in one of them, odasaku found dazai before mori did!!!

no worries guys!!! dazai is taken good care of in at least one universe out there!!! (head in hands, shinji sitting poseโ€ฆ)

and to end this debate with a lil something, mori and dazais dynamic reminds me of the saying:

โ€œThe abused becomes the abuserโ€.

the strangest thing to me about the BSD fandom is the fact that the vast majority of people in it are dazai fans, while also consistently assuming the absolute worst of him, disregarding the circumstances around his actions and giving him no grace or consideration of his situation whatsoever.

there's no doubt dazai is a bad person in many ways. he did plenty of unjustifiable, inexcusable things. he's pathologically manipulative with a totally skewed moral compass, most of which was undoubtedly brought on by his upbringing in the mafia. but at the same time, i see such a huge number of people taking that and somehow ending up with - and vehemently defending - this idea that he's a remorseless, indifferent, innately cruel person by nature?

are we forgetting this is the same dazai who was forced to false-witness a murder at fourteen years old? the same dazai who already wracked up numerous suicide attempts barely out of his pre-teens?the same dazai who was referred to by everyone around him as a 'demon' at fifteen years old? the same dazai consistently described as having grief-filled, empty expressions and detached, vacant reactions to practically everything when he was so young? the same dazai that oda described as "a child crying in the dark, alone, left to fend for himself with a hole in his heart as large as the world itself"?

that dazai is an indifferent, heartless, innately psychopathic person? really? i'm not convinced.

the way I see it, if you flip the morality of bsd, the characters in the port mafia and ada would slot perfectly well into the hero and villain group roles respectively. That's the point of Tachihara's arc, or Kouyou and Chuuya's backstory, or Dazai and Kyouka's arcs, or Akutagawa and the entire BEAST universe. most of the cast aren't innately bad people, their morality is dictated by circumstance
