Nikolai had put so much effort into creating his monstrous façade. All the jesting, laughing, toying with the pain of others. He tried so hard to look like a “monstrous person with nothing inside”. But in the end he didn't want to be remembered as such.
Gogol still wanted to let the world know that he wasn't a monster. During his makeshift penance to Atsushi he tried to humanize himself by telling about the guilt and remorse he felt. Nikolai even confessed to the Agency that he admired the justice they fought for. He said: the light they emitted drawn him in.
Nikolai couldn't allow himself to be viewed as just another criminal. He wanted to be remembered. He wanted to make people care.
For that, Gogol gauged out his soul and presented it to the audience.
He wanted to be seen, even at the very last moment.
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗙𝘆𝗼𝗱𝗼𝗿'𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗯𝗼𝗱𝘆... 𝗜𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗰𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗻? 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝗳 𝗗𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗲𝘃𝘀𝗸𝘆 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗔𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗼𝗴𝗼𝘇𝗲𝗻?

As if now Dostoevsky can give Amenogozen any kind of order. So why not to ask him to kill Fyodor?
Right now there is no need for that, since Mr.Demon is winning. But Dazai and Ranpo are only about to arrive, Atsushi is yet to unite his forces with Akutagawa. Things can get heated very fast, and whatever advantage Fyodor has will be nullified.
If Dostoevsky is close to being defeated he can ditch Bram's body and get a new vessel with a built-in power. It would still be a gamble, though. There is always a chance Fyodor can turn into bubbles like everyone before.
But what if "Crime and punishment" counters Singularity? Then Fyodor would get a new fit and a terrifyingly strong ability (since it's probably linked to Amenogozen's physical form and if Dostoy inhabits it, he'll get a hold of it too).
Dostoevsky already expressed attraction to Fukuchi's powers as a devine being.
Why not become the one who actually wields them?
Amenogozen!Fyodor? Am I even ready for this? I don't know.
𝗗𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗲𝘃𝘀𝗸𝘆 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝘀 𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀𝗻'𝘁 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘆, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗰𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝘁

Fyodor sees himself as hollow. The only thing that should fullfill him is faith, God, future visions. And yet, his mind, his flesh desires more than this.
Still, Fyodor doesn't see himself as an individual, but rather an instrument for Heaven's will.
Dostoevsky barely has any personal preferences and hides them well. The only consistent drive he is open about is a desire to be around beauty: classical music, delectable food, gorgeous people.
As if being around perfect and good-looking stuff can clench Fyodor's self-disgust.
Every time Dostoevsky is lavished with nice things, he feels like a rat, crawling into a royal palace. He doesn't deserve any of that. Not after everything that happened.
And yet, his little heart can't help but tremble every time someone gifts him an earthly pleasure: good wine, sweet tea, a peaceful atmosphere; people tending to him, surrounding him with all the comfort he needs. Fyodor can get addicted to it easily. But it never lasts.
There is a part deep inside of him that never relaxes, never gives into safety. Maybe, it's the part that ultimately broken or the one that belongs to God. It's restless and unstoppable.
Every time it wakes up, Fyodor's compulsion to save destroy the world takes over. Something triggers Dostoevsky, reminds him of his ability and he is back on his feet, searching for a way to fix everything.
Fyodor can never enjoy a good life for long enough. Every time he does, his drive drags him back into sewers,
where memories of peace
can only haunt him.
My bsd theory
I think that the Ame-no-Gozen kills people and absorbes their ability/life force to make himself stronger but if and/or when they kill it they can get the people who died back, and possibly Fyodor lost control of it or he’s simply looking and/or examining Atsushi, I think Dazai with his ability might be a key part in defeating the Ame-No-Gozen but I also think if it absorbs ability’s it would be really bad for Chuuya to be near it, I hope/think Nikolai will also come back in the new chapters.
Let’s talk about the Atsushi cannibalism theory (it’s 1 am and I’m not sorry)
So there are two parts to this theory; and let’s start with the easiest one as it has actual relevance to the source material.
Atsushi Nakajima ate people when he was unaware of his ability. First I want to point out that this is probably canon and just ignored by all of the characters. When Atsushi first met Kunikida and Dazai, during the restaurant scene both in the anime and in the manga, they say they’re looking for a *man eating tiger*. Which, let’s be honest while a starving tiger would eat people, probably means it wasn’t just hysteria and Atsushi had confirmed deaths. He was considered a dangerous beast by the military, and would be killed on sight, not subdued.
So at the very least, even when he attacks Dazai, and they scold him for being reckless, we know there are probably confirmed deaths to his ability. Most likely as a starving tiger he ate these people or tore parts of them off so badly they died without help in the middle of the night. He’s kept unaware of this for his own mental health (we saw how the Dead Apple event affected him), and for plot convenience. Now that he has control and never uses a full tiger form again, he’s not just going out and eating people. But the ADA knows he’s killed people, they have to right??
Second, a theory with little to no evidence that’s a fan theory that I personally find fascinating is the “what did Atsushi’s parents do to him before the orphanage?” We get the line from Fitzgerald (I can’t find which season it’s from) “After breaking your ribs, he had these choice words; ‘after every thing your parents did to you when you were just an infant, this doesn’t even count as abuse’.”
We never get real confirmation or hints as to what exactly Atsushi’s parents did to him. There are fan theories I’ve seen (I don’t know the origin) where Atsushi’s birth parents may have eaten parts of him out of poverty and desperation, because he could regenerate with his ability. We know his ability has been active since early childhood, hence the being locked up and other forms of abuse at the orphanage.
Though there’s no hints or solid evidence, I’m fond of this theory because of the irony that his parents ate him, only for him to eat other people. Had the tiger or Atsushi not been starved would this have happened? Would the tiger continue to eat people out of instinct, or a form of familiarity and comfort?
It’s a wild theory and it’s absurd, but it’s one that sticks in my mind often
Wait.
What if, when someone in the BSD universe dies, the universe resets.
WAIT THIS MEANS ODA DIDN'T DIE.
I AM insane, please ignore this.
A theory on the Upcoming Episode
The next episode Bones is releasing is called 'Twilight Finale'
Lets break this down:
Twilight
Theory 1 - In the early chapters of the manga and episodes of the anime, the Armed Detective Agency are the peacekeepers of the Twilight - a time when the Government and the Port Mafia do not operate. The use of the word 'Twilight' suggests that this may be about the Armed Detective Agency.
Theory 2 - The franchise 'Twilight' is a gothic franchise about vampires, werewolves and romance. If we say the Armed Detective Agency are the 'Vampires' and the Hunting Dogs are the 'Werewolves' it fits rather nicely, considering in the 'Twilight' franchise they do have a war. (You can tell how little I know about Twilight lol)
Finale
Theory 1 - This could mean that this would be the last episode of Bungou Stray Dogs. The Last One. EVER.
Theory 2 - This could simply mean that this will be the last episode of season 5
Theory 3 - The author Dazai Osamu's last book was titled 'Goodbye'. The poet, Nakahara Chuuya, has a poem called, 'Autumn Song' which references a dying man who acts like all hope is lost for him. Do what you will with this information.
Theory 4 - This is the last episode Bones will make because they are very broke because they spent all their money on old man yaoi.
Theory (yes again)
I'm crazy, so I shall force this upon thee.
Dracula - Bram Stoker
Count Dracula - Fukuchi/ Fyodor
Jonathan Harker - Dazai
Mina Harker - Chuuya - sweet innocent maiden who gets harmed by Fukuchi and is manipulated and gets bad dreams
Quincey - Atsushi - dies fighting Fukuchi/ Fyodor, tries to keep Akutagawa alive. Got rejected by Akutagawa but still loves him
Renfield - Nikolai - Attempts to gain immorality by eating insects (Fyodor wannabe essentially)
John Seward - Sigma - Nikolai's doctor, extremely very confused
Lucy Westerna - Akutagawa - Turns into a vampire and has to be killed
Brides of Dracula - The Hunting Dogs - 'Vampires' only obey Fukuchi.
I absolutely love that everybody's theories were partially true. Like EVERYbody was correct in a way. Someone said that Dazai probably had a forehead protector in his forehead, and they were right. Someone said that Chuuya was probably not a Vampire, and they were correct.
Oh. I just realised.
Fyodor' words are the same as Jesus' on the day of his crucifixion. Then three days later, he rose.
GUYS THIS IS NOT GOOD.

THIS IS ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE FOR OUR MAN KUNIKIDA'S RESURRECTION.

ok maybe a stretch maybe not but the "whole and void" duality of Amenogozen and the people it kills(?) turning into bubbles (empty spheres) feels like a deliberate design choice
Bsd Theories that I don’t believe
Discussing the "Naomi isn't real theory" and "dazai can't die".
Ppl who want to Baby atsushi.
Dazai and chuuya at 15.
Including: Naomi, Tanizaki, atsushi, chuuya and dazai.
I accidentally put this Clip here but I wanted smt else, how the hell do I remove it???

So I saw this theory that Naomi isn't a real person and Tanizaki created her with his ability.
But why would he create an illusion of her?
I read that it was because Naomi is death and he couldn’t handle it, so to not go insane he created the illusion of her.
I do get why people think that she isn't real but here is why I think she is real.
So first we should look into the work of the real Tanizaki Jun'ichirō: the irl Tanizaki published a book with the Titel "Naomi" Naomi was a character in the book, a very importierent one. The story basically follows Naomi and the main character who is a man (and I forgot his name) they met at a Restaurant (if I remember correctly) and Naomi is a waitress there, he falls inlove with her and they became boyfriend and girlfriend but to not be judged from others (bc they Aren't married and it was back in the day) they just said they are siblings but they are NOT siblings. I think in the book they also started to live togehter (again if I remember correctly).
In the book Kirako Haruno also Shows up who is also a character in bsd and is mostly known as Fukuzawas Assistent. In the book she is (again if I remember correctly) an stage actress.
So Haruno and Naomi are both not acual people who lived in real live but characters based on the work of Tanizaki.
(This is Haruno)

(Very cute and pretty)
It's normal in bsd that some of the characters Aren't inspired from real life and are characters from books from the irl authors. Or are ppl who had something to do with them.
So like I said the "Naomi isn't real theory" is a theory I don't really believe, why?
Well first of if Naomi was an Illusion created by his ability then why would he worry all the time about her ? You guys remember how he was ready to kill higuchi when she almost killed her? If she was truly just an illusion created by him then he would have known that she wouldn't die and she wouldn’t have been bleeding from her attack.
We also saw him being worried about her in season 4.
It's just like with Elis, when mori and Elis (whom is his ability) fighted with Fukuzawa and mori basically lost and Elis was disappearing he wasn't worried or something because he knew nothing would happend to her.
Or when he and Elis almost died in the car that was meant to kill them Elis saved him in time and he also didn't ask if she is alright he knew she was because she is his ability, so he naturally knows that she is alright.
But it was never like that with Jun'ichirō and Naomi. He was very often worried and she did things that suprised him like the time when Higuchi almost killed her he was taken aback.
While I do recognize that it also could be that he believe that so much that she is alive and well so he subconciously made her so "real" thats why she is injured sometimes.
I think they must have meet in school or a little before.
Asagiri properly wanted to add his work in this way and it was mostly meant to be a funny way to include the work of Tanizaki.
Was it really funny? Not really.
Is it a little strange that he did that like this? Yeah it is.
And also:
Jun'ichirō is obviously unconfortable with all the physical Touch Naomi gives him in public. He often tells her something like
"Naomi we're in public not now" and she dosen't really Listen to him. Which makes it even more uncomfortable to watch because he’s often very uncomfortable with it. She is definitely overstepping a boundary with that which isn’t okay. We always see her being very close or having her arms around him but that isn’t what he minds it’s that she is doing too much and also touching him too often on purpose to get this reaction of him being nervous.
I really don’t know why asagiri did that to Naomi.
However, we can clearly see that they both really care for each other (even though they can be very uncomfortable to watch).
I do admit its strange that she talks in 3 person but it’s only when she is with him.
I think both are very good characters but often a pain when they are together, separate from each other they are definitely more comfortable to watch not only because they aren’t touching each other but also because we get to see a very positive side on both of them and that they also care for there fellow friends around them.
Also in real life there was an actress for Naomi whom was Tanizakis sister in law.
What is funny is that the irl chuuya, at some point, fell in love with her and called her his Ideal wome in the poem he wrote about her.
Yep He even wrote a poem about her (thats kind of cute tbh)
So would Naomi be chuuyas ideal women in the bsd universe? Well... I don't know but I guess so.
I also wanted to say that I think It's pretty obvious that Tanizaki and Naomi Aren't siblings.
And I'm 100% sure that there not siblings.
BTW : The real Tanizaki was WILD he tried to rizz up his DAUGHTER IN LAW and he had a Sex game (I can't) with his sister in law ( Naomis actress) and his wife...
Also I don't think dazai can't die or that he is the book.
Listen if dazai was on that one Thing last year where some rich ppl tried to go to the Titanic I swear he would survived that somehow but I don't think he is unkillable.
When he was shoot by fyodors Assassine he was injured and could have died but fyodor didn't plan for dazai to Die, I think he knew atsushi was there to save him.
Also remember how chuuya shoot him in the shoulder? Well that was unplaned and he was really pissed (chuuya) so he took revenge so no, dazai also dosen't know "everything" and literlly not everything is in dazais "perfect plan" and chuuya could have acually died in the 'Prison break arc' when he and fyodor where " drowning " And I'm pretty sure that dazai didn't tell chuuya abt that, that he and fyodor will take a swim in that strange water they were in and yosano, kenji and Tanizaki could have died too while he was away (how did they even survived that long? I guess there plot armor is pretty good too)
If chuuya didn't pull that "one trick that they did all the time back then" with the gun shoot he could have really died so yeah.
And if chuuya really was a Vampire back then fyodor could have easily killed him tbh.(how did Dostoevsky didn't get that chuuya isn't a Vampire I thought he had an almost or same IQ as Ranpo ?)
And why I don't think he is the book or that he knows everything? Well in the one chapter where he found out about fyodor Dostoevskys Real ability he looked so suprised so if he knew about everything he would have know that all along.
(Dostoevsky that mother f**ker is the real unkillable man lol)
(I'm tired of hearing ppl say "it was dazais plan all along thats why they didn't die" like what-?😭🙏)
Anyway lets also talk about how the fandom wants to baby atsushi + the sexualisation of Chuuya and dazai when they were 15.
I think it’s SO problematic that the fandom is basiclly sexulaising chuuya and dazai when they are 15.
Sorry but if your older then 16 you shouldn't be thinking that when they where 15 that they where "hot" or whatever. Dazai is shown to be very unstable at 15 and chuuya dosen't even know who he is at 15 because he had zero memory's of his past.
Only after stormbringer he knew who he was and what happend to him and alot of traumatic stuff happend to him and by the way just bc you know your past dosen't mean you now know who you are.
He was 16 in stormbringer and still had to process what happend to him which was btw alot.
Remember the one Clip where he shot that guy and keep shooting even though he was already dead? Well, many find that hot.
However, dazai (in the anime) is speculated to have had a Breakdown and you can notice that when he said: this is more then you deserve
And his eyes where very dark in that moment and the artist of bsd herself said that the eyes are a reflection of there mental well being.
In the novel it was : what a luxury!
While shooting and is described to have a "bizzarly childlike" expression. So in the novel he knew what he was doing, if anything.
But I noticed that everbody is simping over that secne or using it to show how insane he can be or how his voice was so hot and all.
Guys please, if you take the Text with the acual context of the secne I feel like we get to know more about him.
Why is that such a Luxury for the dying man? Probably bc he wanted to be the dying man but that is just what I think.
Why is it more then he deserved? Probably because he was the one who wanted what he had and maybe because he thinks he deserved it.
I do have to say that bones made them look much older then 15.
It's like simping over kenji who is also 14. Thats just strange.
Kenji and kyoka acually look 13-15.
Both chuuya and dazai were at a bad place at 15, and sexualising them in Fan arts is not okay.
Both of them there past are very traumatic (if the bsd dazai had the same past as real dazais Osamus. The irl dazai (and chuuya too) had quit a traumatic up bringing that explained alot of there views in there work and lives but it would also explain why the bsd dazai is how he is)
It's the same when ppl who are older then 15-16 simp over Ranpo in his backstory Episode when he was like 14??
Anyways, what I also wanted to point out is that It's so SO weird that ppl want to BABY atsushi who is an 18 boy, okay he might be come across as naive but that dosen't mean he is stupid or acually naive.
It is the same with Armin of aot.
He had a VERY traumatic past (man literlly Has PTSD )and anyone who has been trough abuse is naturally a little more mature then ppl there age or knows how to take care of themselfs and while I do recognize that atsushi wants acuall love and affection from others I don't think making him seen like a Baby and wanting to Baby him is what he wants lol.
He isn't a Baby who can't take care of himself so why are yall acting Like he is?
Also atsushi is ruthless and he can be really mean.
All the ppl who say : atsushi would NEVER say anything mean!!!
Yeah he would never with YOU (🫵) but he would with akutagawa whom he lets his inner mean side out and is basiclly letting him 90% of there interactions very much known that he isn't quit found of him.
Anyways I hope you liked this Post and thankyou all so much for reading ❤️
❤️
EDIT: I WAS RIGHT NAOMI IS A REAL PERSON AND NAOMI AND JUN'ICHIRŌ ARE NOT SIBLINGS!!!!
YASSS!!!!
WE WON!!!!
I WON!!!!
I was right all along.
I love being right 😚🙂🙏
I am always right.

BSD S5 E11 theory with spoilers (obviously)
Kind of a 2 in 1.
So l've been thinking about the last episode a lot over the past couple of days. Mostly about how unsatisfying it felt. It's been about 6 years since everything with the DOA started in the manga. That's 6 years of wondering what's going to happen. How are the ADA going to get out of this one. Are my favourite characters going to be ok.
Only for it to end up being that they where never in any danger to begin with.
It was all staged. Tanizaki and Kunikida would have been fine no matter what, all you had to do was unplug the machine. Chuuya was never a vampire to begin with. Dazai escaped the prison and got the antidote. Fyodor is finally killed. Everyone's fine. It was all just a convoluted set up.
But then that got me thinking. It all ended a little too perfectly.
Enter the book/page.
What if someone wrote in the book to help the agency so that everything would end happily ever after. The machines where dangerous. Until someone wrote in the book that they weren't. Chuuya was actually a vampire. Until someone wrote in the book that he wasn't.
And so on.
So then who would have access to the book/page. Well we don't know where the book is, that's what everyone is looking for. People most likely to actually know where it is would be Taneda and of course Natsume. Of those two Natsume is the most likely. We haven't seen him since the Canabalism arc and we know that he's always working behind the scenes to help out. So what was he doing while the agency was being framed?
But let's leave that as a possibility for now and move onto my second theory.
The page. Last we saw Fukuchi had it. So that leave's Fukuzawa, Ranpo and Teruko with easy access.
But here's what l'm thinking.
The otherside of the page was supposed to be written on that night. But if Fukuchi was already planning on dying then how would he do that?
The answer is he wouldn't. But you know who could? Teruko.
We already know she talked with Fukuchi before everything went down and that she was on his side. So what if Fukuchi gave the page to Teruko and told her what to write. Or maybe just gave it to her for safe keeping.
Either way Teruko would have the page. And what would you do if you where just forced to kill someone you love and you have the ability to manipulate reality. You'd try bring them back.
Enter weird Fukuchi from the end of the episode.
We already know that the book/page can bring people from inside the book outside the book because of Sigma. So what if in Terukos grief she wrote on the page for Fukuchi to be a live.
But because our Fukuchi was already dead it wouldn't make narrative sense for him to suddenly come back to life. So what if instead the book brought a different Fukuchi from inside the book into the main world.
Or if we're going of how the book works in Beast then main world swapped with a world where Fukuchi was alive. Which would also explain Akutagawas weird outfit.
Anyway that's my weird theory about the last episode. Guess we'll find out in like 2 years if l'm right or not.
TLDR: The ending of the last episode was weird and I think that either Natsume wrote in the book to help the agency or Teruko wrote on the other side of the page to bring Fukuchi back and that's why everything went to shit.

Just realised Kunikida’s clothes didn’t stay behind like they did with Teruko
I shall now be head cannoning that Kunikida made all of his clothes using his notebook
Bsd 114.5 is WILD but like, someone pls explain how did that rat kill Karma then????

…… I think I read too many vampire related manga
Kenji Miyazawa theory
Ok, bare with me on this being my first major contribution to this fandom but....
I believe Kenji’s ability is like Chuuya's, but his agency is unaware.
When you look at the details behind the Arahabaki experiment, Chuuya has upon the tainted sorrow. Still, corruption, known to be the true form of his ability, stems from Arahabaki itself, which once again is the result of experiments surrounding singularity ability. Also in the first chapter of Stormbringer, on page 22 it mentions when Piano Man is giving the photograph, he mentions that the photo was taken in a western village but what received from a different village, location unknown. With that being said, if you go into book 23, or chapter 100, you can see in the flashback part that talks about how the agency, specifically the President, found Kenji, in a rural village said it be somewhere from the northeast part of the country. Seemingly, both of them were originated from a rural area and brought to the Yokohama region. Both of these two men are quite similar in their natural strength, which ultimately led to Chuuya's experimentation, but the Surabachi incident was before Kenji was not even alive when it happened, he was born a year later. When found and taken in by Fukuzawa, it can be seen that he has two levels to his ability, with the first level being when is stabilized by a tangible force. That force is that he must be extremely hungry. With Chuuya, his gloves are like a personal anecdote for him feeling control and keeping his hands in his pockets while fighting. Proving that Chuuya has learned over time how to gain a semblance of internal stability. The thing is, that the mafia knew about the concept of ability singularity experiments, through the events of Stormbringer. Still, there is not much clarification that the Agency knows as well besides Dazai and possibly Fukuzawa. If by chance Fukuzawa does know, that may be why he went to find Kenji when the true form of ability first made an appearance. That may also be why he took him in, because if word did come out that there was another case like Chuuya, the Mafia definitely could have also found a way to get his hands on him. This also plays into the theory that Kenji was a trauma take, specifically that Fukuzawa can control the level of his subordinates. Since this was obviously an ability that he was slowly losing his own internal control over something it is entirely possible the village was forcing him to hold back. Separate from the case of Chuuya who basically was forced the hand to quickly learn to stay alive. The other key thing is that it had only been 2 months since Kenji had joined the ADA when the beginning of the storyline began. Yet, the minute something, almost like trigger words, is mentioned by a foe, then all restraints are useless, and the true form takes control, similar to how Chuuya has a specific phrase when allowing the usage of corruption. It seemed that against Tecchou, he was able to retake control as well as having a slight remembrance of what was happening. This is most definitely due to the work of Fukuzawa, as the Atsushi also has gained immense control over his ability in just a few months as well. One other thing is that it also seems that for both Kenji and Chuuya, it takes a high amount of negative emotions relating to people to truly force their hand in unleashing the true nature of their powers. With this being said, I think the mystery behind this village that Kenji comes from also holds secrets of their own, which leads to not just Kenji falling victim to a similar situation, but also the reason why the ADA was forced to play their hand instead of the government investigating the original events.
What if the BSD Great War...
So while doing some digging around while working on one of my many analysis projects…my brain began to create a weird rabbit hole theory that seems so crazy but it could be like 10% possible.
As we all know as members of this fandom, there was “The Great War” that occurred 15 years before the start of the running manga. Yet, we are given such little details about such a detrimental event for multiple big-name characters within the series. It makes me question why this might be the case. While I can't pick apart Asagiri to the point where I can figure out his own personal crazy thinking, I can theorize the plausibility that this war was based on a real-life historical event, given the fact that a good 90% of our cast was real people as well, with their BSD relationships reflecting large similarities as the real-life relationships between the authors.
Now that is said, here is what i came up with…WHAT IF this war we speak off is a odd play off World War II.
Don’t throw me to the wolves here, I have no clue if anyone else has thought this either… But hear out at least my breakdown:
Evidence piece number one: Basically as mentioned above, Asagiri uses historical authors and plays the switcheroo game, religiously.
What started as me just trying to figure out what chapter Yosano’s backstory began in, I came across this line in an article breaking down her experience with the war that reminded me that in true international history, WWI was considered The Great War. I stated our Great War is the second one though, but here's why I say it is indeed the second one. We know Asagiri brings in characters that influenced or knew each other in real life, but he does not keep all the facts true with a lot of rearranging of the order of ages and who mentored who, For Example, look at Dazai and Akutagawa; where in the series Aku looks up to Dazai, but in real life it was Aku that inspired Dazai. Yet on the other hand, we also know that if you were to look at the average period most of the authors came from, taking out our lovely Russian friends and a few others, the majority come from the years that are considered pre-WWII to post-WWII. So would it not make sense that he would use people who did experience wartime in real life to have experienced a similar war in this worldly universe as well, which was WWII. This brings us to the next part that looks at the question: so he switched around some things, but why would he need to do that?
Evidence piece number two: If you look at details from light novels and certain parts of our main story…the alliances between certain countries look oddly familiar.
I will not lie that I have not read these light novels in a hot minute and I've consumed a lot of other media, so my memories are a bit hazy. But from skimming plot summaries for the books “Stormbringer” and “55 Minutes”(credit to the ppl on this website that give these details) I began to notice something. There are three major groups of authors, once again taking out the Russians, we have the French (who worked in tandem with the English), the Japanese, and the unnamed Germans (besides our man Johann who is mentioned in 55 minutes, I believe). Now pair the countries with how the events played out with the relaying of information about the singularity research, the research that is considered to be one of the major reasons the Great War had even begun, the pairing between countries reflected eerily familiar to the allied and axis powers during the real WWII. The timeline that I have worked it out to be is Germany theorized it first then stolen by France, who succeeded, then stolen again by Germany, and then handed over to Japan, who then also succeeded.
Evidence number three: Comparing the facts to WWII and the descriptions we receive from the characters in Bungo about the Great War, there are a lot of indirect overlaps.
Since Asagiri made it that out of any event of the series prior to the start of the running manga, he chose the Great War to have the least amount of number facts to its name. Yet, by looking at how the great war within the series is described by the characters who experienced it and then looking at the basic facts about WWII as well, the "events" of Bungo's war are quite familiar. I will say that history was never a class I paid close attention to at any point in my life, but Wikipedia is helping the case here. Whether it is the fact they focus on how it was filled with science and technology advances that led to the deadliest parts of the war. Or the fact that islands played a huge role in many events from the war. There are just enough overlaps for me to consider this as evidence.
And more recently discovered...evidence number four: The book that inspired Asagiri to even create bungo stray dogs was, you can guess, related to WWII.
While I was looking into the career paths that Asagiri had before he became an author, it was mentioned that a book by the late author Shusaku Endo named Ryugaku, which is set post WWII. There are also similarities between the countries used during the great war in Europe and the countries mentioned in this book. This book, combined with Dazai's own novel that also inspired him, gives great sway to the time frame Bungo is actually set in.
Overall all of this could be my delusions doing its delusion things, but I do believe that I can fancy my brain for one minute. Thanks if you decided to read all the way through!
what if Nikolai has actually known Fyodor's ability this whole time...
just an idea...
but sit on it...
