"Look up at the sky, look at all those colors" lies, Peeta. Bull. That was the boringest sunrise. It's all gray. The woman was dying and you lied??

Like I'm joking but like. It's CGI. They could do better than that.

Watching HG Catching Fire: maybe it's just me, but it feels so rushed and forced.

And why is the convo between Peeta, Katniss, and Haymitch (after the victory stop in district 11) so so rushed? Like there is so much content in the book, and if I hadn't read it I would have no idea what was going on.

Coriolanus Snow did not mansplain, manipulate, manslaughter his way to the top for some of y’all to decide that Peeta is the toxic one

I'd be really interested to see a list of parallels between the hunger games and the ballad of songbirds and snakes, and I'm not talking "when coryo says the things we love most" No. I'm saying katniss and Lucy both have mentors who don't expect then to win but still take actions that aid in their successes, but coryo ditches Lucy and haymitch becomes katniss's friend. If no one else makes a list, I might

Coriolanus Snow is the one who creates the concept of betting on and being invested in The Hunger Games, which is ultimately his downfall because katniss everdeen and Peeta mellark use the attention and interest to manipulate and ultimately break the system, which brings about snow's downfall.

And ultimately it's because snow is trying to be the best and promote himself that he loses power in the end. If he hadn't tried to impress Doctor gaul, then the games probably would have ended years before katniss was even born and certainly she wouldn't be able to use donations and attention to bring about the end of his presidency.

Sejanus is such a tragic character because he’s a revolutionary born decades before the revolution. He wants to be Katniss, he has the same heart and courage as her and if he could be The Mockingjay he would be, but the opportunity for Sejanus to do something isn’t there as much as he tries and tries again and again. Things just happened to fall in place for Katniss to have the opportunity she did. Sometimes you can be a good person, you can try your best, you can scream and fight for goodness, and you’re still powerless to stop evil. Sometimes the world just isn’t ready to listen yet. That’s a heartbreaking reality, but the silver lining is that even if you can’t be the hero - someone somewhere sometime will be. Evil isn’t truly immortal as much as the villains insist it is.

Reading TBoSaS was an eye opening experience for me because for a minute I was like Katniss and Peeta had it so much better than Lucy and these other children who were treated like literal animals- transporting them like livestock and putting them in cages not to mention the very public, dehumanizing parades. But then I was horrified at myself because I couldn’t believe myself. It wasn’t better at all, Katniss and Peeta were brought there for the same exact purpose and putting them in fancy dresses and providing them with expensive amenities doesn’t take it away. It’s still the same horrible, wretched, gruesome tradition, I just thought it was better because it was also wrapped up nicely with a pretty bow which I guess was the whole point.

I love breaking down hunger games and analyzing it, and I've thought a lot about the love triangle. Particularly how there isn't really one. How the love triangle was really just marketing, but it was always peeta and katniss. And also, Gale was always borderline toxic and possessive. If I compare that to TSITP...gale becomes Conrad imo, the way gale assumes that there is some attachment due to his care/protection/ whatever from the past, having issues that make the FMC feel needed and responsible to help, (I actual started writing this in June of 2023 and just stumbled upon it in my drafts so I'll try to finish what I was talking about) saying things to make the FMC feel guilty about choosing the other guy (even in small things, not even dating the other guy, but like talking to him), letting/making the FMC feel as though she's the only one who knows him/what's going on for him.

The thing about The Hunger Games for me is that Suzanne Collins was pointing out how powerful people are (and have always) pointing attention towards entertainment, and especially romance, to distract from serious issues. In the books, the love triangle is hardly present (again, IMO) but the movies proved the point by drawing out the relationships and marketing the movies for the love triangle, which led many people to believe it was just a dumb storyline about a teenage girl who can't choose between two guys uwu, when in reality it was a social critique, told from a teenage girl without criticizing or belittling girls in any respect, and taught a generation about activism.

That is the crucial different between the two, to me. Hunger Games was meant as a social commentary in ya fiction form, which got marketed as a love triangle. Summer I Turned Pretty really is about the love triangle.

Belly in the first episode is reading the Hunger Games, in the 4th episode in the flashback we see she's watching the movie, do you think there's a connection with TSITP love triangle?

Wow , great question. Unfortunately, I haven’t seen the hunger games… it wouldn’t be fair for me to make an analysis, but I’d like to think that Jenny never does anything unintentional. In season 1, Cam and Belly went to watch Sabrina at the drive in and the plot of the movie represents the triangle between Belly, Conrad, and Jeremiah. There’s connections everywhere. My sister has seen Hunger Games and she said that there’s not even a love triangle that present. I know that Jere loves Belly, but it’s not as present and deep like I think Conrad’s love is. From what I heard, it seems like Katniss and Peeta’s relationship had the main focus and the third person of the triangle was there to spark things up between them. Same goes for TSITP, Belly and Conrad are beyond teenage love. They’re represented as a love that will always find their way back, no matter the obstacles, they’re meant for one another. The gravitational pull between Conrad and Belly is infinite, the light shines most on them. Jeremiah and Belly’s love is platonic, as teenagers and young adults that can get confused with being in love, but when it doesn’t feel right—you’ll just know. I’d love to hear your theories and connections.

This is an awesome take. The district that never quite played the capital's games by the rules, and seeing the whole progression of changes their actions caused due to the capital deing unable to predict what they'd do.

Lucy gray brought the entertainment elements to win people over.

Haymitch brought the rebellion by using their own weapons (the forcefield and whatever else we find out from his story) against them.

Katniss and Petta combined both of these elements and that is what finally brought it all down.

It makes sense to chose the previous district 12 victors when their stories add more context to why Katniss and Petta's games were so revolutionary.

I’m actually compelled by this prequel announcement because it makes a lot of sense to me to finish the stories of all four District 12 victors.

I keep hearing theories that we'll get a capital/gammaker/non-distrct 12 tribute POV for sunrise on the reaping, which is supposed to show the propaganda and how the capital twist things to suit their narrative.

While that might be interesting, I don't see how we'd get a view of what exactly Haymitch does to make them alter his footage like that when the narrator is so removed from his perspective. If we are watching from the outside wouldn't we just be seeing what the capital tells us?

The same likely altered story Katniss watched a tape of?

Sure we could watch a gamemaker and get more of the broadcasting picture.

But we have the option of a cocky young Haymitch who grew up in the seam, seeing the effects of the capital's work, who has now been reaped and has the chance to go down fighting. Wouldn't it make more sense to follow him or one of the tributes that gave the Capital a reason to alter the footage, then watch as no one believes them after the games due to being fed lies that distort all the tributes fought for while trying to survive?

Besides, if Suzanne wanted to show an outside perspective of what propaganda can do to objectify and dehumanize the tributes, I think we'd be getting Finnick's story. Think about it, the 14 year old people are already invested in, who's life was shaped forever by how the gamemakers and Snow presented him to the world. The one who's story and impact can come across easily from an outside perspective because everyone knows how old his is, regardless of if they want to forget.

Not the guy who won then disappeared into a tiny district away from sight and became a laughing stock of a drunk.

Haymitch knows what he did, and why it was warped to the point all evidence of his work beyond that final kill was eraised. He knows why all this happened, and would have to deal with the frustration of not being believed or understood while all his family and girlfriend were killed.

Haymitch is what happens when Snow uses propaganda to get rid of his problems and uphold his control over the districts - AKA the masses. It's best seen from the inside.

Haymitch is a tale of using propaganda to control the masses regardless of what actually happened.

Finnick is what happens when Snow uses propaganda to obectify tributes to distract the capital from the fact a child they got attached to is in a fight to the death with other children. It's done to control the capital AKA the few, and doesn't quite have the same effect on district people who see their own children in his situation year after year. It's easily seen from anyone anywhere, but it's effectiveness is best seen from those who let it brainwash them.

Finnick is a tale of using propaganda to dehumanize/objectify people to keep the audience invested in watching something.

In short, while a capital viewer POV might be interesting, I don't think the 50th games are the ones best suited for it. That's just my 2 cents on this.

The Hunger Games has the FUNNIEST arranged marriage of all time btw. Katniss realizes she'll have to marry Peeta and she's obviously upset so Haymitch tries to comfort her by saying "you could do a lot worse" and Katniss is like "well DUH of course I could do worse than Peeta he's the best & handsomest person on the face of the planet but that's not the POINT I want to be able to choose for MYSELF". Then she goes and chooses Peeta anyway lol. Comedy gold I tell you

Can you write something with Katniss meeting Coriolanus wife. And she's like 'he wasn't always like this' ???

thats so depressinggggg but absolutely its my job. sorry its so short tho, i tried but this felt like an end ykwim?

He was my man, but now he's just a stranger...

(no ship ig, kinda Hunger Games trilogy! Coryo x wife!reader)

Queen of Hearts vibes

Summary: Katniss meets the First Lady of Panem.

Meeting [Name] Snow was a slow anticipated reach into the tresses of the Capital 'nobility'.

Katniss was slightly terrified, having heard that she was a scary woman who would order Peacekeepers to cut your head if you even passed her.

All Snow's are Lions, she'd learned, aiming for nothing but the kill.

But looking at her now, with her long, shimmering, dark blue dress cascading over her frame and her sad [e/c] eyes gazing into the bright rose garden, she had nothing but sympathy in her veins for Snow's wife. By her tensed body, Katniss knew she noticed her walk into the room.

"You know, that rose garden and I, we aren't much different. He prizes us but he says we do nothing but wither." She gazed at the brunette, analyzing Katniss' emotions through her bright green eyes.

" He wasn't always like this...I miss those times."

Katniss burst into laughter, shaking her head as disbelief struck her core.

" No, a man like Snow was born evil, and they deserve to rot in hell."

A slow, sad sigh fell from the First Lady's lips, reminiscing about the life she had with Snow before his yearning for power.

" That's what I thought too, till I fell for nothing but his sweet smile..."

You Can't, You Can't Catch me Now

I'm coming like storm into your town

You Can't, You Can't Catch Me Now

Part 1/Part 2/Part 3/rest on Masterlist

You Can't, You Can't Catch Me Now

[Mentor!Coriolanus Snow x time-travel, thg-era, tribute!reader x toxic!Finnick Odair (in the Peacekeeper era)]

You Can't, You Can't Catch Me Now

Warning: gore, blood, gun and knife violence, serious injury, death, physical assult, possibly non-con...as I said, maybe...

You Can't, You Can't Catch Me Now

Summary: You are a rebel, the last chance of the rebellion against President Snow. You're told to go on one last mission to kill the man who massacred Panem. It took you years to understand your mission when you became [name] Lily Baird, starting from the age of five till before the reaping day of the 10th Hunger Games.

The day you began your plan to destroy President Snow before he became the villain he was meant to become.

'Both sisters, Lucy Gray and [Name] Lily Baird are a part of the Covey, and though they have been chosen as tribute for both District 12 and 9 because of our own mistakes, we hope they will stay safe.'

You knew about [Name] Lily Baird, named after her because your mother was inspired by her fiery personality and strength, but now you realize that you were transported to a time before the Baird sisters died, one of sickness and one because of Coriolanus Snow himself.

'I will kill you, President Coriolanus Snow.'

You Can't, You Can't Catch Me Now

The list of dead tributes caught Sejanus’ eye. Of course, he had sat down in front of his television to see if the Baird sisters were there but it wouldn't hurt to look once more.

His amber eyes analyzed the rough paper stuck to the fountain, Tributes from 1, 2, and 6, were dead. [Name] Lily was the Tribute who survived from District 9, Sejanus was sure that when Coriolanus had heard that a Tribute from 9 had died he’d probably gotten a heart attack.

But if anything this is what that fucking deranged manic, Dr.Gaul, wanted.

Quickly killing multiple Tributes and letting one escape was her MO.

When Sejanus had gotten home, he proceeded to grab meatloaf sandwiches from his Ma that she’d made to give to Coryo before heading out again to visit the Hospital for the Capital people injured during the Arena Bombing. Ma asked why he was heading out again.

“Oh you know, Ma. I’m going to the Hospital to visit Coriolanus.”

She rolled her eyes before extending her arm to wave him away. “ You’re growing up to be just like your Pa, but don’t forget Coriolanus’ book bag, didn’t you grab it once you heard he was injured?”

Sejanus widened his eyes. He’d completely forgotten about the book bag! “ Ah, thanks Ma!” He waved before jogging down the stone steps.

It was dark when Coriolanus finally was awoken after Sejanus’ visit. He had assumed it was a nurse but the ravaged face of Clemensia Dovecote. Once she screamed, the nurses picked her up to lock her in her room.

But it cursed his mind, and he could never forget her screams of anger and anguish until he died by an angry, cold, person he made in his image. Because he wouldn’t die without knowing that his wrath and revenge could be continued.

A week later, Coriolanus had walked up to you and said those exact words, searching for your distant comfort in place of his cousin or Grandma’am.

You gently hugged him as he slowly buried his head into your neck, thinking of what he’d meant.

‘ Oh, Katniss Everdeen, maybe you became President Snow while fighting against him…’
