Ttrpgs - Tumblr Posts
Have I mentioned how excited I am to run this for my table? I'm sure I have. But since nobody reads this save @laurelwen I'm going to say it again.
Cosmic wonder! Adventuring rats! An almost complete break from my brand of being the moody ladxy who only runs horror and cyberpunk!
There is a mystery, and its name is Typhon ...
I have a new RPG coming out! The Far Roofs is about adventuring with talking rats in a magical, god-haunted world right above our heads. About how small we are in the face of the world; about how vast and deep we are, as well; about how stunningly wonderful and terrible this world of ours can be.
Now on Kickstarter!

The opening paragraphs of the tabletop RPG Wanderhome // the closing paragraphs

you don’t even know what you’re missing. you fool.
For our pilot episode, we (re)read Sleepaway by Jay Dragon (@jdragsky). “A game of horror, dreams, and summer camp”, Sleepaway sets an intense, stomach-churning tone just with the text alone.
You can find "Sleepaway" on Possum Creek Games' itch[dot]io linked here.
Boosting for a friend's rad business :)

i just saw your post about the cataphract- the stat blocks are unreliably narrated? can you say more about that, that sounds incredibly fascinating-
Thanks for asking! So the game I'm writing is a diagetic document, it's written by the in-universe equivalent of a KGB agent. It's a rulebook, but it's also a piece of propaganda.
With regards to the Cataphracts, the unreliability comes in the flavor descriptions between the "good" fantasy USSR/Parthia stat blocks and the "evil" fantasy America/Vatican stat blocks. For example, compare Motivations of the Gadan Cataphracts to the Khajen Hussars:
Cataphracts- "Smash through the cowards who would raise their arms against Gada, hold the line until their final breaths" Hussars- "Show off, trample the common man, seduce impressionable youths with heroic lies."
They're both a heavy cavalry unit in imperial armies, but you can tell the author has a bias. The effect I hope this has will be to convey the tone of the book, ie, this was written by someone with an agenda. But because the flavor text is biased, I hope it'll get readers to consider that maybe the bad guys aren't so cowardly, and the good guys aren't as tough as they're made out to be, and encourage readers to mess with the stat blocks as a result.

What is up gamerz, We are NoDDsoc, (Not Only Dungeons and Dragons), the University of Sheffield’s TTRPG society. We run both campaigns and one-shots, both online and person, and also run a social discord sever and other social events, all of which are available to both students and not students, including those outside of Sheffield. ttrpg players, reblog with an out of context quote from your current campaign

A free one-page RPG for playing out the final days of a spaceship hotel.

The Edinburgh Festival Fringe (to give it its proper title 🤓) is a place to get weird and experimental with performance, so if actual play takes off there ... here's hoping we could start seeing some experimentation with the format (get it on its feet? free the performers from behind the table? or stage it in the round with the players around a round table? put em on a lil revolve? refuse to accept static staging in live in-person actual play challenge 2024)
Supernatural TTRPGs Bundle
For the next 22 days (until September 21, 2024) I and a bunch of other indie TTRPG publishers are hosting a supernatural themed bundle.
Titles include:
Strays: My 250~ page pbta about runaway changelings.
Hell Holes: Golf your way out of the nine circles of hell.
Run!: Solo slasher survival horror.
Tyst Borg: An osr game about music.
Cult Of The Sky Titans: A stone age cavecrawl.
Carry On: You know what this one is about.
Cryptid Creeks: A big, full art, feature length Gravity Falls inspired small town spooky.
I Crave The Loop: A roguelike where a ghost cat is trying to eat your snack and you must protect it.
I did this with my bard and our fighter. I was a morally grey smuggler who loved pushing buttons, and he was an upstanding noble with a competitive streak a mile wide. They were arguing, competing and laughing together the entire campaign.
They became a couple during the epilogue.
ttrpgs are fun bc sometimes two people will just completely unintentionally bring parallel/foil characters to the table. like, two characters that seem like they were deliberately written by one author to be in the same narrative, accidentally created by two separate people who didn't communicate at all about their ideas before bringing their characters to the table.
After being reminded of that one TTRPG a friend is hosting on GitHub, I decided to check in and see the status of it and good lord

Why is it 30% Rust?? What is happening

Someone ordered a FishBlade, I think? I don't know I'm not caught up to the discourse.

So I just remembered I created something cursed involving that FishBlade thing that was going around
The First Blade: Balaraw - Winged Dagger
I realize I haven't been explicit about it on here yet (mostly because I'm not the best at keeping all my social media profiles up to date), but I am involved in the development of a Tabletop Roleplaying Game It's called Gubat Banwa- a TTRPG based around tactical grid combat, contemplative war drama, and high-flying martial arts, all of which taking place in an unapologetically Southeast Asian-inspired fantasy setting, developed by @makapatag with art direction by @villain-returns. Initially I developed the script that is used in the gamebook and diegetically in the setting- called Kasuratan- but I'll talk about that elsewhere.

With the Kickstarter launch imminent, I thought I'd do a bunch of Twitter X threads on a bunch of weapons I've drawn for the game counting down the final week before the launch. Then I thought: "Why aren't I posting these on tumblr also, at least I wouldn't lose my mind over character counts over here"- so here we are. These were supposed to be posted as Swordtember drawings, but then the KS launch got moved to October. Most of these blades are of Philippine make, since that is where my knowledge-base is and what I'm comfortable enough to share knowledge about. I thought it'd be nice to share a bit of blade knowledge from some of the cultures that inspired the setting. Without further ado, let us begin with the BALARAW.

Also known as a "winged dagger", it is characterized by its unique shape, consisting of a short leaf-shaped blade driven with the tang out into a hilt with two distinct protrusions, creating three prongs on the back with the tang included.

(Photos from an exhibit at The Met)
They may be held at the hilt like a regular knife, or they may be held in a manner not too dissimilar from how our neighbors in Southeast Asia hold keris. One may imagine it like a "push dagger" for lack of other reference points. It might be likened to the katar as well, in some sense.

(Sketches by the Gubat Banwa Art Director himself) Nowadays, the blade is frequently attributed to the People of the Upstream- the Mandaya group of peoples- though they would have seen much wider use in their day, likely also spanning across what is now the Visayas region of the Philippines.

(Modern rendition by Panday Keiven Tolentino of Itak Mindoro, Photo by Ramon H. Bathan) Something I've noticed from looking at Philippine blades all the time is that symmetrical, double-edged blades like these are rare, here. Blades that lend themselves more to stabbing than anything else aren't very prevalent either, and blades that do not- at first glance- appear to be made with tool use/foliage clearing/farmwork in mind don't make up the majority of specimens. The balaraw is unique in several different respects, and any self-respecting warrior Kadungganan of Gubat Banwa's Sword Isles would do well to mind its bite. The weapon makes an appearance in Gubat Banwa in the hands of the Beast Hunter- one of the many Disciplines ("character classes") whose techniques your character can learn in-game.
The Gubat Banwa Kickstarter launches in 7 days! Check it out here:

We'd appreciate any and all help in getting the word out. Support an independent TTRPG made by a team from the global south, looking to make waves through a fantasy setting where the Southeast Asian inspirations takes center stage!
