Late night Wings of Fire thoughts, who knows if they are anything lol

Tui is great at characterization, especially character nuances. A great example in this is the nuances in the three Smart Guy™ characters. All fall into the same category, and yet are portrayed so uniquely.

Starlight is a sassy pompous know-it-all with a heart of gold and a belief that everyone can be reasoned with, even if it gets him into trouble. He cares a lot, and this can be seen in his Smart Guy subclass: The guy who cares a crazy amount about analytics and facts, a science major, if you will.

Moonwatcher is much more introverted, anxious, and fierce. She's a good dragon, and will always defend those she cares about, regardless of the consequences, but curiously despite her powers of empathy, she is pretty bad at understanding people, and tends to have to focus more on the ideas of others to understand most dragons. As a far more self centered dragon than the other two, Moon gets the Smart Guy subclass: Girl who would rather be reading right now but is too kind to realize it, AKA a book club girly.

Cricket is a fun case, so intensely curious that it really is her defining trait. She is always the one to question why things are happening, regardless of the consequences, and is probably the most chaotic of the Smart Guys. She tends to treat new dragons more as curiosities to be answered, only becoming actually empathetic to them once she sort of gets their deal. She pretty much gets invested in anything that confuses her, which others may find annoying, and always values the truth over secrecy, regardless of what may happen, due to her view of the truth being paragonal. It's pretty easy to say her Subclass is that of a conspiracy theorist, always trying to figure everything out, sometimes with reckless abandon.

Ok, I think MOST important goes to Sunny. But Moon's about 2nd place I think.

I think it's about time I say this. Moon is the most important character in wings of fire. Not best or favorite, (though she is my favorite) those are two different things. What I mean is you can't substitute her in the plot. You can't swap her out with another character and get the same story. Moon's kindness is the one who sparks change in everyone, Turtle in his journey to be willing to help, Qibli in his journey of becoming secure about himself mentally, and Winter basically not being Racist to Nightwings. I could go on but you get the picture.

Alive!Orca au where Princess Orca is alive but in hiding.

The statue was still made though. Orca hides in pantala, underwater in Lake Scorpion. She hides in pure fear, afraid that her past will one day catch up to her.

I swear to God if Tui makes one more book I'm going to explode and steal the goddamn series for myself and rewrite everything.

Sunny knew there was always something off about her, something that made the other dragonets apart of the prophecy avoid her as much as they could, make for one exception though, Starflight. He was the nightwing of the prophecy, born at the same time as her, under the full three moons he hatched, just like her. But he wasn't like her, not totally.

She remembered nothing from her days in the mountain, it all flew by quick for her as she spent her days playing with the toys the guardians gave her and reading old scrolls. But there was a specific night she remembers.

She was told to go to bed early, she tried, but she kept hearing mumbles of fear and anxious voices, drawing her out of the sleeping cave and into the library, hiding in the shadows she heard them talking about something called "Animus magic" and saying that it was a powerful and strong ability, one of mass destruction, to others and yourself...Guardian Dune had growled out something about Sunny having the ability. She noticed that the other dragonets shivered with fear, she didn't want to be feared.

Yet here she was, standing in front of the Great legend Darkstalker, her body frozen with shock and fear. "Sunny...you could be the strongest dragon ever with my guide, you could show everyone how wrong they were when they thought you'd never hurt them, that you were harmless." He had hissed with a cunning smile and a glint of bloodlust in his eyes.

"I can teach you how to be strong."

-winter wears literally so much jewelry (think chokers, rings, and just ROWS and rows of earrings)

-yk the northwest bit of the pantala map with all the mountains? i think itd be cool if there was a tribe living there

-speaking of other tribes tui did say she might bring a spider tribe into the series (of she thought about it when creating pantala but decided not to?? i forget)

-riptide and deathbringer are bffs (in winter turning death said he knows the dragon who took over the Talons of Peace sooo 👀)

-yk that trend or whatever where a girl takes off her fake lashes and the guys freak out and are like "OH MY GOD DO YOU STILL HAVE EYELASHES???" yeah that's turtle and winter. not qibli though, either bc hes an educated king or because him and thorn both wear fake eyelashes

-qibli's lips are chapped all the time, always, no matter how much winter is on his case about putting on some chapstick

-blue and cricket are the sweetest parents of all time to bumblebee and willow and sundew are her godparents/aunts

-blue likes to weave little stuffed animals out of flamesilk for bumblebee bc warm

-not a hc but bonus fun fact: hybrids get their dominant genes from their mom

just bought the wof guide to the dragon world and i am LIVING its so fun i love lore abt the different tribe cultures and stuff i am such a slut for some LORE dude

As great as a world with no homo/transphobia is, there is so much potential in Pyrrhia where it's a thing.

I imagine Icewings would be hella bigoted as their society is pretty conservative, hostile towards outsiders and they they have aa strict hierarchy and classism. Imagine if Winter was gay, having to deal with internalized homophobia and fear of how his parents would react.

Imagine someone from the royal family coming out as gay or transmasc. Bonus points if they're the only heir and refuse to have offspring. I feel like Coral in particular would completely lose her shit lol

This is Sunny from Wings of Fire by Tui T Sutherland, my favorite book series! I don’t draw dragons very often because I have a hard time with them, especially fullbodies, but this turned out great in my opinion! I really like my interpretation of Sunny. The flag she’s holding is the aroace flag :)

Tui T. Sutherland: Aside from her gold scales and lack of a tail bard, Sunny is almost indistinguishable from a regular SandWing; it’s hard to tell she’s half NightWing at all!

My Wings of Fire fantribe (Part 1)

Tribe name: WebWings

Royalty: Queen Maratus, Prince Huntsman, Princesses Sicarius, Arachnid, and Tarantula

Territory: The mountains of Pantala

Kingdom description: Large webs span across the areas between mountains. They are layered far enough apart to walk, but not enough to fly. Cave systems inside the mountains are used as houses, schools, and a palace. The main outdoor area is referred to as The Webs, and it is like a marketplace and popular hang out.

Colors: Main scales are typically shades of brown or black, with web patterns on the underside of the wings. May have different color patterns covering the body.

Body type: Small torsos with long, thin legs and necks. Rounded wings. Four extra arms that are noticeably smaller.

Extra information: Heavily based on spiders. Silk glands can be on the tail or near the snout - if they are on the snout, the dragon has mandibles, I'd the glands are on the tail, the dragon will have spinnerets. All WebWings have venom, which is injected through biting. Either eight or six eyes, depending on the dragon. Omnivores with a strong preference for bugs. Early WebWings are said to have been cannibalistic.

Dark black (on the face): Example of mandibles (not every dragon has these!)

Blue (tip of tail and behind mandible example): potential silk glands locations

Red (torso): small, extra limbs

Green (in mouth): venom fangs
