You groan in your bed, your fever spiking to an almost unbearable temperature. You spend a lot of time in bed nowadaysâever since your best friend died almost a year ago, you havenât had the drive to do much. But being sick the past week has only confined you to your bed even more.Â
You roll over, hoping the other half of your pillow is somehow cooler than the side youâre on now. Itâs not, and your body feels like itâs going to overheat. If it was possible to put less clothing on, you would, but the chances of your roommate coming in and seeing you naked are too high.Â
Speaking of your roommate, you know that when Dick comes home and sees how bad your temperature has gotten, heâll rush you to the hospital. Paranoid, big brother Dick who insists he canât lose another friend. Dick, who moved in with you a few months after Wally died because he was afraid you might hurt yourself. Dick, who forced you to put socks on and keep most of your clothes on because even though you feel hot, he knows youâre still vulnerable to the cold.Â
The socks scratch at your ankles now and you long to pull them off, lazily dragging your feet together. You squeeze your eyes shut, trying to calm your burning nerve ends.Â
As much pain as youâre in, this is the most youâve felt since Wally died. From the day you watched him get vaporised, everything around you has just gotten duller by the day. You can hardly stomach to put on your costume, let alone look at Barry or Bart. Even seeing The Flash on the news is enough to make you sick.Â
âY/n,â a soft voice echoes from the bed next to you.Â
You force your eyes open, your dark room greeting you. âHello?â
Thereâs no answer, and youâre able to close your eyes again. You relax into your bedsheets, kicking the blankets off of your legs in a desperate attempt to get some relief. Clearly your fever has spiked to the point where youâre losing it.Â
âY/n!â The voice is stronger now, and it sounds more desperate than before. More than thatâthereâs something familiar to it.Â
You open your eyes again and gasp, all of the breath leaving your body. There, sitting on the bed next to you, is Wally. His green eyes are full of concern, his mouth pulled into a tight line.Â
âOh god,â you whine, âI really am losing it.â
You squeeze your eyes shut, willing the hallucination of your dead best friend to go away. How could any god be so cruel to inflict this on you? Knowing how you felt about Wallyâand what heâd said to you during your last moments together?
When you open your eyes again, heâs still sitting there. His unruly red hair is falling into his face and all you want is to reach out and brush it away.Â
âYouâre not losing it,â he says.Â
âIâm so sick that Iâm hallucinating my dead best friend. How is that not losing it?â
He shrugs. âI mean it does sound pretty crazy, but Iâm here, arenât I?â
âYouâre dead,â you say simply, voice void of emotions. âYou died and you left and youâre never coming back.â
âI got better.â
Everything about him screams Wally. His voice, his mannerisms, even the stupid jokes he makes. But you know itâs just your brain playing a stupid trick on you. Your braincells have overheated and youâre left staring at a ghost.Â
âNo, you didnât. And you never will, Wally. And I know that so I donât get why my stupid brain canât leave this alone.â
He lays down on his side next to you, looking up at you with those doe eyes. âThere wasnât a body, you know.â
His words make you angry, they make you choke on the lump in your throat. But heâs right. Something about his death always seemed wrong to you, and even after this long, you still canât accept it. Heâs saying all of the right things, and it almost makes you believe heâs really here.Â
âSo say you are hereâŚwhy now? Why here? Why am I the only one whoâs seen you?â
He strokes his chin, pretending to be deep in thought. âI donât really know, y/n. Iâve been here the whole time. Iâve watched everything. I know how hard things have been for you guysâŚâÂ
You donât say anything, just staring at him expectantly, forcing him to keep talking.Â
âIâm sorry youâre sick, but Iâm glad Dick is taking care of you.â
âAnswer the question, Wally. Why now?â
He sighs. âI think itâs because youâre sick. I think once your fever got past a certain point you were able to hear me, and once you could hear me, you could see me.â
âHow would that even work?â You squint at him, âhow did you even know I could hear you?â
âI didnât itâs justâitâs a habit to talk to you, you know? But anyway, I think it has something to do with the speed force being attracted to the release of energy, and whenever you have a fever, you release massive amounts of it. But since yours is so highâŚâ he gestures at himself for emphasis.Â
âSo as long as I stay sick, I can see you?â
âI think so.â
âThen I never want to get better,â you murmur.Â
âY/n,â he sighs, and the tone he uses makes you freeze. Youâve only ever heard him use it once beforeâwith you on the day he died.Â
The thought brings a tear to your eye, his words echoing in your ears. I love you, y/n, I always have. Iâll be back for you, okay?
When Dick gets home from work, heâs surprised to hear you talking. His first instinct is that youâre feeling better and youâre arranging to go back to work, but as he gets closer to your bedroom door, he realizes itâs not the case.Â
He listens in for a bit, hearing a one sided conversation. As soon as he hears you say âWallyâ, heâs barging through your door only to find you talking to the air.Â
âDick!â You cry out, gesturing to the empty bed next to you, âlook! Heâs back, heâs here. Wallyâs here!â
Dickâs heart aches for you. Youâre clearly unwell and in your feverish state, your mind is playing tricks on you.Â
âY/n,â Dick sighs, âI think itâs time we go to a doctor.â
He approaches your bedside slowly, trying not to startle or upset you. He knows youâre hallucinating, and he really doesnât want to trigger anything worse to happen.Â
He kneels at your bedside, just behind Wally. âCome on, we need to get you to the hospital.â
âN-no! I canât leave Wally!â
Wallyâs face crinkles up the way it always has when he feels guilty. âY/n, I think you should go with Rob.â
âNo!â You cry out, âyou canât leave me again!â
Dick gives you no warning before heâs pulling you into his arms, your feverish skin scorching his. He holds you securely, even as you cry and beg him to take you back to Wally.Â
âWally, please! Do something! Let him see you! Donâtâdonât leave me again!â
âY/n,â Dick rubs your sweaty hair out of your face. âItâs gonna be okay. Youâre really sick, and youâre hallucinating, but weâll make you all better. I just need you to trust me.â
You take a deep breath, and then another, looking over Dickâs shoulder at the redhead sitting on your bed, giving you a sad look. He gives you a wave, âitâs okay, y/n. Everything will be okay.â
You just hope heâs right.Â
â
The hospital takes an eternity to admit you, leaving you lying on Dickâs lap in the waiting room. You keep your eyes closed, hoping that if you open them Wally will be there, but you know he wonât.Â
Dick strokes your hair, rubs your back, does anything he can to keep you comfortable. When a nurse finally calls your name, he helps you to your feet and half carries you down the hall.Â
They leave the two of you in a small, isolated room with a bed covered in scratchy sheets. Dick helps you climb up while the nurse insists a doctor will be by shortly.Â
Dick holds your hand the whole time, the skin on his palm turning sweaty from where your hand touches his. Your fever has only gone up since you left the house and you feel like youâre going to burn alive.Â
Finally, a doctor comes in and she starts to run all kinds of tests on you. After a while, they insert an IV into your arm and push fluids to keep you hydrated. They give you medicine to help you drift off to sleep, your eyes fluttering shut before you realize whatâs happening.Â
You wake up a few hours later, Dick no longer asleep at your bedside. Your temperature has gone down, and while you still feel feverish, youâre coherent enough to know whatâs going on around you.Â
ââhallucinating our best friend who died almost a year ago.â Dick tried to keep his voice down but you can hear it from the hallway.Â
âItâs common in extremely high feverâs to experience visual, auditory and sometimes even tactile hallucinations,â the doctor explains. âY/nâs fever was beyond high enough to cause any number of these complications.âÂ
Your shoulders slump. You knew deep down that Wally wasnât really there, that he was a hallucination, but a part of you just hopedâŚ
âBut itâs going to be alright? Thereâs not any permanent side effects?â
The doctor sounds tired of Dickâs questions. âNo, weâre keeping y/n overnight for observation but there shouldnât be any long term side effects.â
Dick thanks the woman and slips back into your room, stopping in his tracks past the door when he realises youâre awake. âHow are you feeling?â He whispers.Â
âSomewhat better,â you admit. âNot hallucinating anymore.â
He sits in the chair next to your bed and squeezes your hand. âThatâs good to hear.â
âI-Iâm sorry if I upset you earlierâŚtalking about Wally and everything. I justâit seemed so real, you know? He was right there, Dick.â
âI know. You donât need to apologize. Your mind was playing tricks on you, n/n. I know you didnât mean any harm by it.â
You canât help the tears that trickle down your cheeks. âI justâI miss him so much!âÂ
âItâs okay,â Dick leans over your bed, pulling you tightly to his chest. âI miss him too. I miss him so, so much. And if there was any chanceâŚyou know I would take it too.â
âDid I ever tell you what he said to me that day? Just before he passed?â
Dick shakes his head.Â
âHe saidâ,â your voice shakes so severely itâs hard to get the words out. âHe said âI love you, y/n. I always have. Iâll be back for you, okay?ââÂ
The gears in Dickâs brain click together, and suddenly everything makes sense. It was no secret that you and Wally had been pining after each other for years. Always cuddling and fighting and loving and hating each other. Dick was close to both of you, and he of all people knew how your feelings were bubbling over. He knew how badly you wanted to be with Wallyâand how badly Wally wanted to be with you.
Itâs a cruel joke, he thinks. That in one day you got everything you wanted, and an hour later had it ripped away. No wonder youâd been like a zombie this year.
âY/nâŚâ he squeezes your hand reassuringly.Â
You squeeze his hand back, and between the fever and the medicine and Dickâs skin on yours, everything in the world feels right for a minute.Â
â
It takes two weeks for you to fully recover from being sick. If it werenât for your roommate being the ultra rich adoptive son of Bruce Wayne, you probably would have had to go back to work sooner. Dick insisted that you stay home until you were fully recovered, though, offering to cover your bills for the month.Â
Itâs also been two weeks since you saw Wally. Itâs been easy to brush it off as a fever dream, but something deep within you wants it to be something more than that. Still, you try to continue on with your day to day life, putting thoughts of the speedster as far away from you as possible.Â
You pull into the Bludhaven News parking lot with ten minutes to spare. You grab your bag from the passenger seat and clip your badge to your shirt before grabbing the coffee youâd stopped for on the way. Youâre determined to make today a good day.Â
You settle in at your desk, smiling at the picture of you and the original Young Justice team was kids. It makes you happy, but in the most bittersweet meaning of the word. You run your fingers across the glass, stopping them at the lightning symbol on Wallyâs chest.Â
Youâre interrupted by your boss stopping at your desk.Â
âHey, l/n, good to have you back,â she smiles, and you feel as though she really means it. âWeâre having a meeting in five minutes.â
You nod, thanking her. She leaves you at your desk, letting you get organized before you have to meet them in the conference room.Â
You bring your laptop and coffee and settle in at the big round table in the spinning desk chair. Other journalists, reporters and higher ups slowly file into the room, filling it up until itâs so full it feels almost hard to breathe.Â
Your boss enters the room last, standing at the front in front of the tv. She welcomes you back before explaining whatâs going on in current events, and what she expects everyone to report on.Â
You sip your coffee, zoning out for the majority of her presentation. Every once and a while, she clicks a remote and the screen changes to a new slide. You donât pay much attention to the tv, only glancing at it every so often.Â
When the screen changes to three familiar figures, you freeze. It feels like someone dumped cold water on you, and youâre painfully aware of everything going on around you.Â
The screen shows Wally, Bart and Barry on the day he died. Wally has a big grin on his face, clad in his Kid Flash suit, giving a salute to a security camera. Youâre not sure how they got this picture, but a part of you wishes they didnât.Â
ââthe one year anniversary since the Flash Family saved the world, and since Kid Flash bravely sacrificed himself to achieve this goal. We want to honour them for their ultimate sacrifice, and thatâs why this month, weâll be doing daily pieces on the great exploits of the family. Alsoâ,â
Her words echo in your ears, everything feels far away from you. The only thing you can focus on is the way your heart is pounding and the way all the air is sucked out of your lungs. Wallyâs face stares at you from the tv screen, and the walls close in.Â
Youâre on your feet in an instant. âPardon me,â you rasp out, before almost running out of the room.Â
Youâre not sure where youâre going. Your head is spinning, your heart is racing, everything is fading away. You stumble your way into the bathroom, locking the door behind you before your knees buckle and you hit the floor.Â
You claw at your throat, desperate for air. You squeeze your eyes shut, clenching your fists, desperate for pressure. When you open your eyes, you swear Wally is there.Â
âYouâre not here,â you gasp. âYouâre not real.â
Wallyâs green eyes are wide, staring at you with concern. âY/nâ,â
âYouâre not real! Youâre just some ghostâfucking haunting me for no reason at all!â
It breaks his heart to see you like this. So sad, so hurt, barely able to breathe.Â
âStop,â you choke out, âstop haunting me! Stop, stop, stop it!â
Wally hasnât seen you have a panic attack this bad since you were kids. Curled up in a ball, gasping for air and repeating the same word over and over again. Heâs desperate to help youâhelp you like he did back then.Â
He doesnât even register what heâs doing until he pulls you into his lap, arms tight around your waist. He keeps a hand over your heart, tracing circles over it.Â
âY/n, y/nâŚâ He murmurs softly, ây/n, listen to me. Deep breath in, okay? Follow my example, feel my heart beating.â
Youâre not sure how you can feel his arms on you, feel his heart beating against your back. Youâre half convinced youâve already fainted, and youâre laying on the bathroom floor having another fever dream.Â
Still, you follow his example. You breathe in when you feel his chest rise, and breathe out when you feel his chest fall. You stay silent for a few minutes, leaning completely against Wally until you can breathe again.Â
Wally rubs your hair, his other hand tracing circles on your hip bone. âHow are you feeling?â He asks.Â
âBetter,â you admit.Â
It takes a few minutes longer for either of you to register that heâs touching you. His hands are on your body and you can feel them.Â
âWally, youâre touching me.â
âIâm touching you?â
The shock is almost enough to send you back into a panic attack. Ghosts canât touch people, neither can fever dreams. But somehow, someway, Wally West is holding you in his arms.Â
â
You leave the bathroom ten minutes later, after you and Wally went back and forth on if he was really there with you or not. You insist youâre losing it, but Wally insists heâs there, and somehow when you were sick, you connected to the speed force and now you can see him.Â
You head back to your desk with no intention of working, set on researching the speed force and if itâs possible to connect to it without being a speedster. Of course, Google doesnât yield the results you hope, so you decide to go a different route.Â
You pull out your phone and text Dick.Â
You: do you think you could get me Barryâs number? need it for workÂ
Robin 1.0: I think I can manageÂ
You: youâre the bestÂ
Robin 1.0: donât you know it
It only takes a few minutes before he texts you his contact for Barry Allen. You waste no time in opening the contact and sending him a quick text.Â
Of course, you donât get to see what he responds because suddenly your boss is over your shoulder.Â
âY/n, you know what our policy is on personal devices at work. Thereâs too much sensitive information here.â
âI know, I know. But if I play my cards right,â your ability to think on your feet coming in handy, âI could get us an exclusive interview with the Flash.â
She lights up at that. âOkay, but remember, no pictures or recordings.â
âSure thing,â you nod and wait for her to leave before opening up your phone and seeing that you have a new text.Â
You: can I ask you a few questions on the speed force?
Barry Allen: sure thing
You: i know the speedforce is like itâs own separate thing that speedsters connect to, but is it possible for non speedsters to connect to it?Â
Barry Allen: only under extenuating circumstances. not every ordinary person can just connect to it, but if youâve been in contact with the speedforce unwittingly or if a speedster has accidentally shared particles with you itâs possible. why?
You: justâŚa theory im working on for work. weâre doing a piece on Flash Family to honour you guys for saving the world and I wanted to look into it moreÂ
You: thank you
Barry Allen: do you think youâve been in contact with a speedster recently?
You: i donât know, if Iâm being honest.Â
Barry Allen: okayâŚkeep me updated, okay? if you need anything at all, donât hesitate to askÂ
You: thanks
You frown, your conversation with Barry only making you feel more confused. How would you have had contact with a speedster or the speedforce? Itâs been almost a year since you last touched Wally, and thereâs no way the symptoms are only coming out now. And the speedforceâthereâs no way for you to have connected with it either.Â
You look up from your phone only to see Wally sitting on your desk, looking at you with amusement. âGet what you wanted?â
âWhy are you still here?â
âWhat?â He holds his hand over his chest, feigning hurt. âYou donât want me here?â
You go to speak but realize your coworkers are giving you strange looks. You quickly put your phone up to your ear, pretending to be on a phone call.Â
âOf course I want you here. I loâmiss you, okay? But itâs not possible. You shouldnât be here.â
âBut I am, y/n. And did Barry not just confirm that to you?â
You sigh. âI will admit, what Barry said does confirm my theory, and what you said while I was sick butâŚâ
âBut?â
âIt shouldnât be possible. You were vaporized, Wally. Youâre dead. So even if you are here, youâre just a ghost.âÂ
âGhost, schmost,â he rolls his eyes, leaning in to flick your arm. âDoes that not feel real to you?â
âI donât know, okay? JustâI need time to think. About everything.â
You donât say it, but it lingers in the air: I need time to think about you.Â
You put your phone down, indicating to the boy that youâre done talking, before returning to your job. The day goes by fast when youâre contemplating if youâre actually being haunted by the ghost of your best friend or not.Â
Before you know it, youâre heading home. When you get through the door of the apartment, Dick is nowhere to be found. He must still be at work, you think.Â
You kick off your shoes and set your bag on the counter before throwing yourself on your bed. You lay down for only a minute before a familiar cologne fills your scent. One you havenât smelled in a long time.Â
You donât need to open your eyes to know that Wally is back. âWhat are you doing here?â
âI was hoping I could catch you changing,â you can hear the grin in his voice.Â
You sit up, staring at him with wide eyes. âWaitâif youâve been here this whole time thenâŚ?â
âYeah,â he laughs, rubbing the back of his neck. âBut I didnât! I mean, I thought about it butâŚit feels wrong.âÂ
âMore wrong than confessing your love to me and then dying?â
Both of you freeze after that, and your hand flies up to your mouth as if you can force the words back in there.Â
âIây/nâŚyou know that if I had a choice, I would have come back to you. Right?â
You nod, âI know. Itâs fine.â
âItâs not fine,â he places a hand over yours. âI wanted to come back to you. Even though you didnât say it back, I just thoughtââ
âYou didnât give me a chance to say it back! You dumped all that on me and then you ran away and left, Wally! You didnât give me the chance!â
Your outburst surprises both of you. Wally isnât sure what to doâif he should apologize or be angry or both or neither. So he says nothing.Â
âI-I think you should go, Wally. Youâre only doing harm by being here. Youâre dead and I need to move on and I never will if youâre just here haunting me.â
You expect him to argue or to make a joke, but the boy doesnât do any of that. He gives you a lazy, one handed salute, like the kind he would give before speeding away as kids.Â
And then he disappears.Â
You feel sad and angry all at the same time. You know itâs not fair to Wally to lash out at him like that, but how is it fair for him to open up old wounds? For him to haunt you?Â
When Dick gets home, heâs surprised to see you dressed in your old costume. Itâs been so long since you put it on, you look almost strange to him.Â
âUh, y/n?â He asks, ânot that Iâm against this but, whatâs up with the costume?â
âI was thinking I could go out on patrol with you tonight,â you explain. âItâs been a while. I need to blow off steam.âÂ
âOkay, let me get changed.â
Thatâs good enough for you, so you settle in at the counter and wait for Nightwing to suit up. He comes out a few minutes later, clad in the black and blue Nightwing suit.Â
He looks at you seriously through his domino mask. âAre you sure you want to do this?â
âIf I donât get out, Iâll go stir crazy.â
âOkay, okay,â he raises his hands in surrender. âBut donât push yourself, okay? And Iâll be there the whole time.â
âAlright, dad,â you roll your eyes. âLetâs go.â
â
Patrol goes fine. Itâs just the usual robberies and gang violence, nothing that you and Nightwing canât handle. Of course, thatâs until you hear thereâs a bank robbery over the scanner.Â
The two of you are about to take off and head towards the bank when you hear the radio go off again. This time, itâs a jewellery store being robbed.Â
âGo!â You say to Nightwing, âyou get the bank, I can handle the store.â
He seems content with that answer, grappling to the nearest rooftop and heading off towards the bank. You turn and head towards the jewellery store, hoping itâs enough to take your mind off of Wally.Â
You get to the store just in time to stop the robbers from shooting the owner. You knock the gun out of one of their hands, turning to fight the other one. Thereâs five total, maybe six, but your vision is tunnelling and all you can focus on is the adrenaline pumping through your veins and your need for a distraction.Â
You make your way through three of them, and just as you turn to fight the fourth, you hear someone yell from behind you.Â
âY/n, look out!â
You knock out the fourth and turn around, just in time to see Wally West pass through you and punch the man in the face. He hits him hard enough to send him falling to the floor.
You stare at Wally in shock. âYouâyou hit him!â
âAre you okay?â Heâs breathing hard, chest rising and falling rapidly.Â
âYou saved meâŚâ You mutter. âHow did you do that?â
âI-I donât know,â he admits, placing his hands on your shoulders. âI just didnât want you to get hurt and then I passed through you andââ
âDick!â You exclaim, realising you havenât heard anything from him in a while, and that he still hasnât returned to you. âSomethings wrong, Wal. WeâI gotta go!â
Wally goes to protest, but youâre already running away. Not only are you running away, youâre running at the speed of light, yellow lightning crackling from your ankles. You donât realize it, too focused on getting to Dick.Â
You arrive at the bank to see a bunch of lackeys passed out on the floor. Nightwing is leaning on a counter, holding his hands over a bullet hole in his side.Â
âHey!â You cry out, skidding to a stop next to him. The bank smells gross, like gunpowder and..burning rubber? âAre you okay? Did you get them all?â
He clenched his jaw. âAll but one. He headed North, thereâs no way weâll catch him. Heâs probably out of town by now.â
âNo, heâs not going to get away with this. Weâre going to find him.â
And before Dick can ask, youâre tearing away from the bank, lightning in your wake. His jaw falls open at the sight. In the dark, with the speed youâre going and the lightning coming out, you almost look like WallyâŚ
You run as fast as you can, keeping your eyes peeled for the man driving the truck of jewels. You catch up to him in no time, throwing your body weight against the truck fast enough to tip it over.Â
Your veins are electrified, pure lightning in your system, better than adrenaline ever could be. You rip the man out of the truck and toss him onto the street. It only takes one hit for you to knock him out, and only a few more seconds to tie him up.Â
Itâs then that you realize what just happened, how fast you were going. You look down to see the soles of your shoes on fire, the thighs of your costume torn open from the fabric chafing so fast.
Something about the ruined shoes and the torn fabric makes you think of Wally, and the thought of the ghost in the bank saving your life only makes you want to run even more. Is this how he felt everytime he ran? Itâs exhilarating, it only makes you want more.
You keep running, running straight up the side of a building before stopping in your tracks on the roof. How did this even happen? You look around, half expecting to see Wally there, but heâs not.Â
Your legs quiver, threatening to collapse beneath you. Your feet ache from all of the running and your shoes have practically disintegrated into nothing. You know youâre done for the night, your body at its absolute limit.Â
Your knees buckle, but before you can hit the ground, thereâs a streak of yellow and suddenly Wally is holding you up against his chest.Â
âIâwhatâs going on?â You ask.Â
Wally holds you up with one arm, staring at his other hand. He shakes it, going fast enough to make it seem as though his hand is vibrating.Â
âI donât know,â he admits. âIâsomethingâs changed. I can feel it.â
You hear the unmistakable sound of a grappling hook before Nightwing is landing on the roof. âHoly shit, y/n. How were you going so fast? For a second there, I thought it wasâWally?â
His face pales at the sight of the redhead, clad in his Kid Flash suit, holding you up against his body. Thereâs no way heâs here now, alive and well, right in front of his eyes.Â
âYouâŚyou can see him?â
Dick is running across the roof in an instant, feet pushing him closer to his best friend. He jumps on both of you, arms wrapping around you both. âWally,â he sobs into his shoulder. âHowâhow are you here?â
Thereâs another flash of lightningâred lightningâand suddenly The Flash is standing next to you guys. âI can answer that.â
Wally grins insanely wide, making sure youâre steady against Dick before jumping to hug his former mentor.Â
âHow did you know I was here?â He asks.Â
Barry smiles, âI could feel it. In the speedforce. There was a huge amount of energy released and then for the first time in a year, I could feel you.â
âBut how did that happen?â Dick interjects, before adding, ânot that weâre not happy to see you.âÂ
Wally goes back to hugging you, wiping off the tears that have slipped from your eyes and kissing the top of your forehead. âI think y/n here somehow borrowed my speed and-and opened a portal into the speedforce.â
âI brought you back?â Your voice is so quiet itâs barely a whisper.Â
âYou brought me back!â Heâs beaming at you.Â
He wraps his arms around your waist, spinning you in a circle. He sets you down on the ground, only to tip your head back and plant a kiss to your lips. Itâs intense, passionate, full of the longing heâs felt for you since you were kids.Â
You wrap your arms around his shoulders, using him to keep yourself up. His body is so warm and hard under your touch, so familiar to you. You draw him closer, not even caring if Dick and Barry are standing there staring at you.Â
When he finally pulls away, he flashes you the biggest smile in the world. âYou have no idea how long Iâve been waiting for that.â
âSo,â Dick awkwardly says, âwhy donât we take this back to our place?â
Wally grabs your hand in his, squeezing it tightly. âI think thatâs a really good idea.â
In love with your alter ego
Wally west x reader

Sumarry-
In a bustling burger joint, Wally West unknowingly gushes to his crush about his admiration for the hero Eclipse. Little does he know, Eclipse is actually his teammate, who struggles to reveal her true identity. A heated battle forces her mask off, revealing her secret to Wally. Amidst confusion and vulnerability, they confront their feelings, leading to a deeper connection and a promising future together as both heroes and lovers.
---------------------------------------------------
Wally West sat across from you at the familiar booth in Big Belly Burger, his eyes alight with excitement as he animatedly recounted his latest encounter with the mysterious new hero, Eclipse. He was practically glowing with enthusiasm, his usual speedster energy barely contained. You listened intently, trying to maintain a neutral expression, even as your heart raced. It wasn't every day you got to hear your crush ramble on about... well, you.
"I mean, you should have seen them!" Wally exclaimed, his burger momentarily forgotten on the tray in front of him. "They took down five of Count Vertigo's goons like it was nothing! I barely had to lift a finger. And the way they movedâso smooth, so precise. I mean, Eclipse is amazing!"
You hid a smile behind your drink, taking a long sip to buy yourself a moment. It was surreal, hearing Wally gush about your alter ego without knowing it was you beneath the mask. Since joining Young Justice, you'd managed to keep your dual identity a secret from your teammates, Wally included. But it was getting harder and harder, especially with how much Wally admired Eclipse.
"Sounds like they really made an impression on you," you said, trying to sound casual.
"Are you kidding? Eclipse is the coolest new hero around," Wally continued, leaning in closer. "And, okay, I know this is gonna sound cheesy, but I think I'm starting to have a bit of a crush on them."
Your heart skipped a beat, and you nearly choked on your drink. Wally West, the boy you'd been harbouring feelings for since joining the team, had a crush on you. Well, on Eclipse. Same thing, right?
"Really?" you managed to say, your voice a touch higher than usual. "A crush?"
Wally laughed, running a hand through his unruly red hair. "Yeah, I know it's silly. I mean, I don't even know who they are. But there's just something about them, you know? They're brave, strong, and they have this aura of mystery. It's kinda intoxicating."
You smiled weakly, unsure how to feel. It was flattering, of course, but also frustrating. Wally liked you, but not the you he knew. He liked the mask, the persona, the hero. Not the everyday person who sat across from him, sharing burgers and banter.
Over the next few weeks, Wally's infatuation with Eclipse only grew. He talked about you constantly, recounting every mission, every fight, every shared moment. And you listened, torn between wanting to reveal the truth and fearing what might happen if you did. What if he was disappointed? What if he didn't like the real you?
It all came to a head one night during a particularly intense mission. The team was up against an unusually large contingent of villains, and things were not going well. You and Wally had been separated from the others, forced to fight back-to-back as wave after wave of enemies closed in.
"Hang on, Eclipse!" Wally shouted, his voice strained with effort. "We can do this!"
You nodded, gritting your teeth as you blasted another thug with a burst of energy. But there were too many, and even with Wally's speed, you were being overwhelmed.
"We need to regroup with the others!" you yelled over the din of battle.
"Agreed! On three!" Wally's hand found yours, a comforting anchor in the chaos. "One, twoâ"
Before he could finish, a powerful blow knocked you off your feet, sending you sprawling. Your mask slipped, and in the frantic moment of trying to recover, it fell off completely.
You scrambled to grab it, but it was too late. Wally's eyes widened as he stared at you, realization dawning on his face.
"Y/N?" he breathed, disbelief colouring his voice.
You winced, caught between fighting off attackers and facing Wally's shock. "Wally, Iâ"
He didn't let you finish. With a speed that left your head spinning, Wally dispatched the remaining enemies, then turned to you, his expression a mix of hurt and confusion.
"Why didn't you tell me?" he demanded, his voice cracking.
"I wanted to, but I was scared," you admitted, your own voice shaking. "I didn't know how you'd react."
Wally took a deep breath, his eyes searching yours. "You should have trusted me."
"I do trust you," you said, stepping closer. "But I was afraid. Afraid that you wouldn't like the real me."
He shook his head, a small, incredulous smile tugging at his lips. "How could I not like the real you? You're amazing, Y/N. Both as Eclipse and as yourself."
You felt tears prickling at the corners of your eyes. "You really mean that?"
Wally's smile widened, his usual cocky confidence returning. "Yeah, I do. And hey, I guess this means I had a crush on you all along."
You laughed, a sound of relief and joy. "Yeah, I guess it does."
Before you could say anything else, Wally pulled you into a tight hug, his arms wrapping around you with surprising gentleness. You hugged him back, feeling a weight lift off your shoulders.
When you finally pulled away, Wally's eyes were sparkling with mischief. "So, since you're Eclipse, does that mean we get to team up more often?"
You grinned, wiping away the last of your tears. "Count on it, West."
As the two of you rejoined the team, you felt a newfound sense of freedom. The secret was out, and it hadn't destroyed anything. If anything, it had brought you and Wally closer. And as you fought side by side, you knew that whatever challenges lay ahead, you'd face them together.
Days turned into weeks, and your relationship with Wally blossomed. He teased you relentlessly about keeping your identity hidden for so long, but he also respected your reasons. The trust between you deepened, and you found yourself falling for him even more deeply than before.
One evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon and cast a warm glow over Mount Justice, you found yourself alone with Wally on a rooftop. The others had retired for the night, leaving the two of you to enjoy a rare moment of peace.
"I still can't believe you're Eclipse," Wally said, his voice soft with wonder. He stood beside you, leaning against the ledge and gazing out at the city below. "I mean, it's like a dream come true."
You chuckled softly, leaning closer to him. "I'm glad you think so."
He turned to look at you, his eyes earnest. "No, seriously. You're incredible, Y/N. You're not just an amazing hero, but you're also... well, you."
Your heart fluttered at his words, warmth spreading through you like sunlight. "Thank you, Wally. That means a lot."
He smiled, reaching out to gently brush a strand of hair from your face. "I mean it. And I... I really like you, Y/N. Like, a lot."
You met his gaze, your breath catching in your throat. "I like you too, Wally. More than I can say."
He grinned, a mischievous twinkle in his eye. "Good. Because I was hoping... maybe we could make this official? You know, you and me?"
Your heart soared, and you couldn't stop the smile that spread across your face. "I'd love that, Wally. I'd love that more than anything."
In the quiet moments that followed, Wally pulled you into his arms, holding you close as if he never wanted to let go. And as you stood together, watching the stars twinkle overhead, you knew that this was just the beginning of your journey together.
As partners, as teammates, and now as something more, you and Wally faced the future with hope and courage. And no matter what challenges lay ahead, you knew that as long as you were together, you could weather any storm.
Because when lightning and shadow intertwined, they created something beautiful and strongâsomething that could illuminate the darkest of nights and bring hope to a world in need.
And so, under the starlit sky, you embraced your destiny with open arms, ready to write the next chapter of your storyâside by side, heart to heart, with the boy who had captured both your heart and your hero's soul.

even in other universes, i'll love you
"Dude, why are there so many butterflies today?" Stepping inside Mount Justice, Wally was bombarded by colorful butterflies. He swatted at them, trying to get the winged creatures away from his face.
Artemis popped out her head from around the corner, waving the redhead over, which he reluctantly followed.
"What's all of this abo-" The blonde puts a hand over his mouth. "You never stop talking, do you?" She hisses at him.
With a roll of his eyes, Wally averts his attention to a few other teenagers who were conversing with his friends. One person catches his attention.
A girl surrounded by butterflies.
Curiously, she observes everyone, taking an extreme interest in Kaldur, but quickly looks at the speedster with butterflies attached to his body.
He watches her eyes widen. "Oh my goodness!" She races over to him, lightly shoving past her friends, and walks over to Wally. "I'm so sorry. They don't usually act this way." Carefully she guides the creature off his body and onto hers. "I don't know what's gotten into them."
"It's, uhm, it's alright." He took in the scene, ignoring Artemis's smirk, thinking the girl before he looked like a princess straight from the movies. "I'm Wally."
"[Name]." She smiles at him, eyes crinkling, making his heart race faster than usual. "It's nice to finally meet you, Wally. Your friends speak highly of you."
"Really?" He only receives a head nod.
Wally's caught off guard when a butterfly lands on his nose. "She really likes you." [Name] can see how Miss Claudina latched onto him, almost as though she was hugging him. "Would you like to keep her?"
"[Name]! You can't just give them away!" Your team leader, Ryan, yells at her.
She gives a shrug to the boy. "If it will make Miss Claudina happy, I will."
"I don't know." Wally responses while [Name] gets dragged away. "Butterflies don't live that long. A month max."
"Not mine." You pull away to share with him. Placing your hand before your mouth so the others couldn't see, forening a secret. "They only die if you don't feed them. They die in action, or if anything happens to me. Miss Claudina should live a long life if handled correctly."
"I don't know..."
"I trust you with her."

"How will we get home?" [Name] asked, looking at the Justice League members. Her team members nodded in agreement.
"Yeah," Tyler looks at the older superheroes. "We've missed so much school."
"If Aurora got you all here in the first place," Batman looks at the girl asleep on the medical bed. "She should be able to get you back. We've tried letting her come to on her own, but we may need to try and wake her up."
[Name] and Ryan shared a look, then glanced down at their injured friend. "That will cause her more pain, yes?"
"She has already suffered enough. Can we not wait for her to wake up on her own?" The butterfly user questions, swinging her arms in protest. "She isn't in the best condition. How do we know she'll be able to use her powers?"
"You kids have been here for over two months." Canary tries to reason. "You all need to get back to your world."
"We aren't risking Aurora!"
Outside the med bay, the young justice team listens, hearing the pained voices trying to defend their friend. As much as they knew it was logical to send the group of four home, the thought of risking the youngest of the group weighed heavily.
"Hey, KF," Robin nudges Wally, knocking him out of his trance. "You gonna miss her when she leaves?"
"Who?"
"Name and probably Miss Claudina," Rob answers nonchalantly, shrugging his shoulders at his friend's now sad expression. "The butterfly will probably choose her handler over you in the end, so ya know."
"Yeah, I get it, jerk."
The door to the med bay swings open, and Ryan bursts out, followed closely by [Name] and her 'friends' fluttering close behind. Ryan looks furious, his purple eyes shining with his anger.
"Ryan! Come on!" [Name] calls out chasing the brunette through the hall, to the room the leader had temporarily claimed, only to have the door closed in her face.
In front of the door, she places her forehead on the metal material as an exhausted sigh escapes her lips. This wasn't the time for them to be angry at one another; they had to keep their cools and stick together. It seemed as though others had different plans.
"You okay?"
Still with her forehead against the door, a smile stretches across her lips. One of the highlights of [Name]'s time here. "I'm fine, but the others aren't." Turning around, she met the green eyes she'd grown to adore in her time here. "You wanna watch another one of the movies from here?"
"Yeah, I'd like that." Not wanting to waste time, Wally uses his speed to get her to the couch in less than 2 seconds. "Here you are, madam."
"Aw, such a gentleman." The smile remains on her face, watching as the speedster fiddles with the remote trying to find a good movie to play. "I'm gonna miss this."
"Huh?"
"When we leave. I'm going to miss you, Wally." [Name] provides a giggle to occupy the awkward silence from her words. "Sorry for dampening the mood. It's just- it's just, the time I've spent here, with you, I'm really going to miss it."
"I'll miss it too." He puts the remote on the small table beside him, taking her hand.
Looking down at their connected hands, [Name] heart races. The excitement she feels shows in the butterflies lingering around Mount Justice. "I really like you, Wally."
"I really like you too." The speedster looks into her eyes, feeling the nervousness radiating off [Name]. "I think I fell in love with you these last few months you've been here."
"I think I'm falling."
Wally softly smiles at [Name]. "Can I kiss you?"
Nodding her head, [Name]'s eyes practically sparkle when Wally's lips contact hers. It was a quick peck, but it made the two happy. Wally practically vibrates with happiness while multiple red butterflies land on [Name]'s hair.
"Even in other universes, I'll love you, [Name]."
